very very good.............
from Jully63
Having read the various reviews I wasn't sure what to expect. However, i was pleasantly surprised. The hotel has an excellent position right on the harbour and with a pedestrianised promenade running past it. There was a lovely atmosphere surrounding the pavenment cafe in the evenings - street entertainers and a great place to sit and people watch. This is not a place for clubbers though. Admittedly the hotel tends to attract the older age group of customers, but at least this meant there were no children !!! The pool was very warm and relaxing. The food in the hotel was tasty and varied and there was plenty of it - we had a 6 course dinner each evening. The carvery was particularly nice. The air conditioning was a must, but a tip is to ask reception for a second card key so you can leave the air con on when you're out so you return to a lovely cool room. All in all an excellent holiday and, like many others, we can't wait to return.
just like being back home
from libbyDerby_Englqand
just arrived back from yet another week at the hotel cala bona. was just like being back home. learnt the trick to pick a room without air conditioning, which gives you a wonderful view over the harbour, stunning, and so so cool, in these traditional type buildings. couldnt fault the hotel on anything, staff went out of their way to be helpful, friendly, and courteous at all times, even when clearly hassled by the hot temperature and even hotter customers. everyone you speak to has been to this hotel before, and just keeps coming back. the guy in the next room to us has been here every year since 1988. not once a year, but twice at least, and says it just gets better and better. the area has seen a huge upgrade in the time we have been visiting, making it more and more accessible for the elderly and infirm. am now looking to book to go back in sept.
still a great hotel

We have just returned from a weeks holiday and have thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were mostly the same as we met three years ago which must say something about the way the hotel is run. This time we stayed in the hotel pergola rooms. Our balcony overlooked an alleyway but as we were on holiday we didn't spend much time on the balcony so we can't nit pick about the view!!Our room was always spotless after we returned from a hot day out, we never had a problem getting a sunbed and, no, we didn't leave towels on the sunbeds . We found all members of staff from reception to bar staff very friendly and we would recommend this hotel to anyone. We do feel that if families research their hotel for amenities they would realise that this hotel is not really for young children, but we do know that couples return year after year so they must be doing something right!!
Fawlty Towers
from stdaveuk
We arrived about 2am at the Hotel Cala Bona, whoch looks lovely from the outside. The hotel is split in 2, with a back street dividing the 2 buildings. We were in the front building (by the small harbour), at the back, and our room was small, and looked like something from Fawlty Towers. We had a large balcony that overlooked the back road, and front of the other part of the hotel (great !). We had a free standing fan in the room, which made a lot of noise, but was essential in the heat. On the first morning, my wife ran the bath, and we sat on the balcony whilst the bath filled. When i checked on it, the white bath had filled with a lovely light brown water. I then checked the hand basin taps, which ran the same colour water. So my wife phoned reception and was told to leave them running for a while and it would start coming out normally ! Which, in fairness, it did after about 20 minutes ! We got to breakfast quite late on this first morning, what with the bath problem, and found the buffet food very cold. Though when we arrive on time, the food was hot, and plenty of it. Normal fry up stuff, and a selection of fruits and cereals. Quite a choice. You are allocated a table for your stay, but when the restaurant wasn't busy we got a seat around the edge, as our seat was right by the buffet carts, so people were barging past all the time. Overall the food was good though, even though the restaurant looked like a school canteen from the 70's. The pool area is in the back building (try and get a room either overlooking the pool or in the front building overlooking the harbour), it's quite small and the sunbeds are crammed in, so there's not much space. If you want a sunbed get up early and get your towel on a bed, as this seems the norm. There's a pool bar that serves drinks and snacks, which are reasonable. There seems a lot of older people staying at this hotel, and it doesn't really suit young couples or families with young children. We were not impressed with the rooms at all, and the lift did not even go to our floor, and had to be accessed by a small staircase. I think the hotel needs updating, and would be very nice after this. We wont be going back to this hotel, but would like to go back to Cala Bona or Cala Millor, as we liked the area.
Allright if you like to microwave food
from nodspoakfields
stopped at the hotel cala bona in early april the room was good with aircon fridge and kettle., not all rooms have these .the rooms are clean with friendly maids. What lets down this hotel is the dining room the tables are to close together and in high season you have a table sharing system. The food could be better and hotter ,why else are there micowaves for reheating food, as the notice in the dining room says (some of our guests like there food hot)
Amazing..

Hotel Cala Bona was great.. we stayed in a lovely room and the maid who came to tidy up for us was kind and friendly! the food was great too and my family and i loved our waitress, she was great and we left her a tip! what i loved about the food was that it was buffet and could get what you wanted when you wanted it. There was so much choice. The staff on the desk were nice and friendly too, smiling and saying 'hola' everytime we went by!! we all made friends there with other people and the entertainment at night was the best! Diego is the best waiter ever and if we ever go to Mallorca again we have all said it would be back to hotel cala bona=) Highly Recommened********** x x x x
A lot to be desired
from doggocambs
let's start as you get off the coach it drop's you off at least 50 yards from the hotel where you have to go the wrong way down a one way street with no pavement dragging cases, left into the reception then your room could be in any one of 5 yes 5 anex's one of which is at least 100 yards from the main part of the hotel that you first enter ,the whole place is like an obstical course if you have any type of disability or are frail and a bit on the aged side dont even think of staying here. The dinning room is on the first floor of the main building as is the swimming pool which is on the same floor as the dinning room but up a slope of at least 40 degrees and i am not exagerating .there is only one lift to the dinning room floor so imagine what thats like at meal times if you cant cope with stairs,On the plus side the food is great excelent choice at all meal times.the picture shown in most brochures is not the main building it is one of the annex's and the bar, reception is behind this and across the one way street ,The one big plus point for the hotel is the port area in front which has just been pedestrianised great to sit at night and people watch. The rooms are clean but it depends what part you are in as some can be quite small ,although some have air con it is only on from miday to 11 at night and as you pay extra for this it should be avalable at all times not according to the manager though who gets very stroppy when quizzed about lack of air con on hot nights it is set to switch off at 21c from a main control .We had a good holiday once we found all hidden steps and found our way around but it was so obvious that it is not the place for the elderly or anyone with walking or sight disabilitys .Staff are good so is the entertainment and if you like bingo you will be in heaven (we werent)
lovely

My Husband and myself have just returned from a 2 week stay at the consul, we met some lovely people. the hotel was clean the food was good although I am quite a picky eater I always found something to enjoy. The staff were very nice and worked really hard although I felt that they were undermanned and times, this did not affect the cleanliness of the rooms or thier willingness to help. We had no problem with getting a sunbed round the pool if we needed to, although we did find that some were taken up by towels from people who did not return for quite a few hours. The view from our room was fantastic as we booked a seaview, we spent time watching the fishermen going out every evening and saw them come back later that day or the next morning. We loved the resort of Cala Bona as it is quiet and relaxing and very flat excellent for walking , there are plenty of bars many with sea views ( really nice on an evening or in the heat of the day where you can just relax in the shade of the umbrellasand have a cool drink) on an evening some of the bars have entertainment which you can go and see or just watch as you are walking by. Cala bona joins Cala Millor which is a slightly busier and a few more shops and lots more hotels. ( just watch out for the cycles and go-carts that are for hire) All in all an excellent holiday which we both enjoyed
Fantastic

I have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Hotel Cala Bona.My partner and myself are both in our forties. We found the whole holiday fantastic!! The hotel is wonderful, the maids, who are all very friendly, clean the rooms every day. There is a wide selection of food in the resturant ,we went half board and found the food very tasteful. All the hotel staff are very friendly and will go out of their way to help you.The pool is very clean and even in high season we never really had a problem getting a sun bed.The location of the hotel is ideal, the resort is good for couples and families but would not do for the "party animal" as there is only one disco and that closes at 4am.The beach in CalaBona is quite small but you can walk to Cala Millor which is a really long sandy beach or get a taxi. The glass bottom boat is a good way to see other resorts you can get the boat from the habour in Cala Bona,a 5 minute walk from the hotel. All the bars around the habour offer a good selection of food and drink at reasonable prices, and further across the front there is a bar that shows all the soaps and several that shows all the footy!! I would not hesitate to book again at the hotel i cant fault it!!!
Ridiculous

i have just arrived home from my weeks stay in at the cala bona complex. The hotel had a very confusing layout but you get used it. the rooms are very very small but every thing is so so clean. i thought the pool was disgusting the water is murky and if you are unfortunate enough to have some go in your mouth you will know that it doesnt taste as it should there is only a faint taste of chlorine. overall i did enjoy my stay the staff are exceptionally friendly and the food although bland is very very nice there is some thing to suit all taste buds. the worst thing about my trip would have to be the check out it was absolutely ridiculous. the check out time for all guests is 12 noon so that is the time we had to check out although our coach was not due to pick us up from the hotel until 12 30 am!!!!!! which technically is the next day!! so we were without a room for over 12 hours and i am completely appauled. i would not revisit this hotel nore would i reccoment it to anyone but i must say it would be great for large families.

Reaching my 70's, still fit , but been there, done that, China, Morocco, most of Europe, for a nice chill for a week can't beat Cala Bona hotel for a lovely chill for a week. Book for a harbour view with air con, very friendly staff, fun evening entertainment, pedestrian... more
