My partner and I went on a ‘Price breaker’ holiday with Portland Direct they say you are guaranteed to stay in either two 3* properties or two 4* in Cala bona or Cala Millor we thought this was good and all hotels looked lovely in the brochure!
We arrived there during the day to find the porter of the hotel very unhelpful and no rep on hand. We were then told where our room was, we couldn’t believe the room they gave us, it was a box with tiny beds, no air conditioning it was dirty and had a tiny balcony that looked onto an alleyway!!! It looked like nothing that was in the brochure! We were put in the old part of the building, which is only a 2*!
We went straight to reception to ask to be moved rooms but they said it wasn’t up to them (they didn’t want to have anything to do with it) and we had to wait until 5pm for the rep! We eventually got hold of ‘The Rep’ who is the most arrogant person I know and who was very unhelpful! We told her that no one should be put in rooms like that, as they are horrible!
We stayed in ROOM 112 so be warned!! If you are given, this room do not accept it and do not leave reception! We eventually were moved a few days later into the new part and the room was lovely!
The reps in this hotel do not want to help and are never usually there we had to keep chasing them until we got what we wanted! The hotel is very old fashioned and needs updating, we only eat breakfast some days as the food was horrible with a small selection available and tables are always dirty.
I certainly won’t be returning here and advise you to do the same!

One of the best holidays I have ever had. Food excellent. Staff friendly and helpful. Entertainment brilliant for my age group (50 something). Lots of 50s 60s and 70s music. Bus only yards from hotel that took you almost anywhere in Majorca. Only criticism was the beds around the pool were too flat, they didn’t lift at the back.

I stayed at the Cala Bona hotel in Majorca for 4 nights. It had really good facilities; outdoors and indoor pool, gym, bar, cafe, TV lounge and big hotel rooms with sky TV. Hotels staff were a bit strange though and night entertainment not great.
The place itself was a little quiet for me, most of the shops shut most of the day. Great sea views from the hotel balcony and the beach was nice. Not really enough night life though, I got bored.
Hire a car and you should enjoy it here, weather is always great.

Been using this Hotel for 23 Years. Definitely not modern, high rise but very friendly family-run hotel.
Food average, but Resort & friendliness makes this acceptable.
Views from sea view rooms are wonderful, looking over small fishing harbour where many boat trips are available.
If nightlife is wanted, Cala Millor is only a short taxi ride away.
Cala Bona has many bars/restaurants around the harbour where one can sit & watch the world go by!

The holiday was booked through Portland direct and as this was the first time I had booked this way I didn’t know what to expect but I should not have worried. The process was simple and pain free and I will definitely do it this way again.
As far as the hotel and resort go-we could not have asked for better at the time of year we went. Yes everywhere was quiet due to it being the end of the season, but no more so than you would expect for the time of year. The Hotel was quite busy with people trying to get their last bit of sun for the year and I must say the atmosphere was generally friendly and enjoyable. The resort was clean and tidy, the view from the front of the hotel idyllic with the pretty little harbour always providing something to look at.
Our room was clean and beautifully presented, towels changed regularly, beds made up and floors swept/mopped daily. The food was varied and plentiful, not all of it always to my taste but there was something on offer to tickle my taste buds at every meal time, with the carvery night being a highlight. We enjoyed the table sharing system as it helped break down that famous ‘British reserve’ because we would normally sit on our own. The guests we sat with were charming interesting people and helped the holiday experience overall. The only reason I have marked the holiday down by just the one point is because as non-smokers (not precious about this) we found the bar in the hotel very Smokey due to its low ceilings. The entertainment provided on a nightly basis was of a reasonable standard and kept us in the hotel most nights and as it got quite cool in the evenings was a good thing, as we did not really want to go too far to find something to do.
Overall a great holiday and we will definitely re-visit this resort and hotel during the season proper as we found it very enjoyable this time round.
