best family holiday
we have just returned from colina mar puerto rico i have a teenage son of 16 and a 12 year old daughter, they both had an excellent time as did my partner and myself, the entertainment was just brilliant, it went on all through the day from 12 in the afternoon till late from water polo ,killer pool, poolside quizes, and kids clubs, i would definately recomend this hotel to people with small children, kim and emma were brill entertainers and hope there back next year as we are booking again excellent entertainment for all. paula and alan from selsey.
Brill, brill and brill
We have just returned from 2 weeks at Colina Mar, our 2nd visit this year. These apartments have been refurbished and are extremely comfortable, spacious with lots of storage space. The entertainment is of a high standard starts at 12 Noon with lots of activities for both children and adults. Cabaret is on every evening along with happy hours. We will definitely return to Colina Mar in future. Everyone was friendly and only too happy to assist if you did encounter problems. Rooms were kept clean and regular changes of bed linen and towels were made. Sunloungers were available at any time of day unlike other places where you have to be up in the small hours to reserve beds ! and nothing was too much trouble. Emma B and Kim the entertainers were very good and helpful too, I hope they are there next year. All in all a great place. I've read some reviews regarding cockroaches, I only saw two during my stay but then again I would expect to see them in this type of climate and certainly have done in the past. Don't let the thought of that put you off this fabulous resort. John and Elaine Wigan
Do not go here, you have been warned
Hi travelled to the colina mar in April 2005.Even though the rooms were cleaned more or less daily there are definately cockroaches here without a doubt inside and in the complex. The furniture is terrible and if youre looking to stay somewhere close to the centre of puerto rico do not stay here as it is a back breaking walk, taxis are widely available. The lifts in the complex were very dangerous when we stayed here one of the doors kept closing wether or not you were in ,there didnt seem to be any safety sensors at all a member of my party did get hurt.Pleasant staff and reception and nice on site shop with nice peolpe running it.I thought puerto rico was very nice if you go definately go to mogan market I think its on a friday you can get on a bus in the centre of puerto rico.we went to las palmas it was ok but as you would expect a little dear. All in all good holiday just spoiled by staying at the Colina Mar.
Do not go there
Do not go there! Only stayed one night and then asked for a transfer. It was dirty, scruffy, cockroach infested. The first room we were allocated had a flooded bathroom. The second room had a filthy bathroom, broken furniture in the living room and the bedroom, plus a smashed in safe deposit box. We were transferred to the Beverly Park Hotel in Playa del Ingles. That was SUPERB!! Avoid the Colina Mar at all costs!!
too high
just returned from the colina mar aparthotel after a forghtnights stay! what can i say? disapointment! it was too high up for a start we walked down the hill a couple of times but thinking back i don't recall why.... my two daughters aged 12 and 8 were completely bored as was i. The rooms either side seemed to be getting refurbished and we were woken every morning with the sound of drilling, hammering and banging, the room itself we stayed in was ok, beds clean, maids every other day but not enough towels supplied. I found out early on if we wanted to lie by the pool we would have to be up before 7am to get any chance of a sun lounger, after a night at the shipmasters bar we found at least eight bed's reserved complete with towels and umbrella's at 3am! The entertainment team consisted of two girls emma and kim who tried their best but i felt they could have improved this service with a bigger team. one final thing...stray cats were not really a problem but the cockroaches were, every nite we found at least two in the room, a simple draught excluder fitted to the bottom of the door would rectify that problem!
Had a Thoroughly Good Time
Some people have been quite negative about the Colina Mar - however I think that a number of the people must have just got unlucky as people staying at the Ritz may have a bad stay from time to time. The Location - These apartments have fantastic views of the resort, however it is right at the top of the hill and that means a 15-20 min walk to either of the two beaches and the main nightlife at the bottom of the hill. There is a smaller shopping centre that includes a number of bars, restaurants and shops about 2 minutes walking distance away. If you do want to travel down to the beaches or bars in the main resort area I think we paid 3.50 euros at the most. I were told there were steps that also took you down to the main resort but never actually went to seek them out! The Apartments - We were in 77. It was very clean, spacious and looked recently refurbished. Maid service was every couple of days. Only ever saw one cockroach in the apartment which was swiftly dealt with! Bedding was clean - beds a little hard but only as hard as any other bed I've slept in abroad. Balcony offered brilliant view of resort. I think all balconies face in the same direction so each room should offer great views. The Food - We were half board and on our first night as they had a lasagne on which was an abomination! After that though the food got much better. Again, its cheap and cheerful fair but these guys have got to turn a profit and I've had much, much worse. Breakfast is the usual bacon, eggs, sausage and beans. Great as a stomach filler to get your day started! Dinner tended to be quite a mix and there was a good variety including a vegetarian option each night. Entertainment - The two girls who host and carry out most of the entertainment are excellent and very professional. Entertainment consists of music, bingo and/or quiz, game shows and then they have a booked act each night. This was my only bug bear. The acts (in my opinion) were very poor and lacked any great deal of polish. However, that's my opinion and I am very hard to please! Overall - Had a fantasic time. The resort is great for famillies and young people and young couples. You aren't going to find much culture here but if you want the sun, a beach and a good night out then this is a great resort and the Colina Mar a great place to stay!
You won't find much better for Kids for this money
We've just been for 2 weeks to the colina mar for the second time. Its the dogs danglies for a budget holiday destination if you have kids. Emma was great, shes there for the hotel, not the tour operator so she's ineterested in more than just selling you trips. She organises events for all the family from 12-4 during the day and 7-12 during the evening. If you want to go away with kids and not have to find much for them to do this is the place to be, its all laid on for you and unless you're a completely unsociable person you'll find like-minded people in the apartments. The rooms were clean and tidy, nothing lavish but adequate. the maids were great, even washing the pots on occasion. Weather as always was superb and if you are inclined to head for the beach there are several to chose from. If you haven't been and you are looking for a cheap package deal for you and the kids, get onto the airtours direct website and get booking. You won't be disappointed
too high
this hotel is right at the top ,you can,t get any higher, the hotel seems to have alot of children. i didnt think much of the service from the maids the rooms were,t that clean and the bedding well i had to put a clean t-shirt over my pillow they were,t clean at all. you would spend a lot of money over the week if you wanted to go down by the beach its about 3 or 4 euros each way which does add up, they do have a laundry service so that is good you pay at tha reception for a token. we never had food there bacause we wanted to eat out ,i saw alot of the familys enjoying the entertainment .
:)
Ive just returned from a two week stay and I thought it was excellent! The entertainment during the day and at night was superb. I won the Killer Pool a couple of times :D And my girlfriend hit a poor wee guy in his privates with the cue ball haha! Food and maid service were good, there was some noise with drills and stuff in the morning but I was glad because it woke me up and that meant time to go to the pool =) Emma B always kept us entertained she was brilliant, even if she had the wrong answers in her Poolside Quiz :-p
Good, but not great
Just returned from a week at Colina Mar. Must have drawn a short straw as we spent all week having to put up with workmen directly above or next door to our room (we were in 129). Rooms are being refurbished and this means amongst other things the bathrooms are being gutted, the stench was unbelievable! Woken up at 8 every morning by workmen shouting, drilling, or moving equipment and they didn't finish until quite late. One of the patios was taken up by a cement mixer one day. Because of this, spent as little time in the room as possible. Poolside was fine although the smaller pool is a lot better than the big one. No cockroaches at all. Maid service at lot better than I'd read about and therefore expected. I'm sure when all the refurb has been done the Colina Mar will be fine, but could have organised it all a bit better so that it didn't disturb those who were currently staying there so much, especially as it was obvious that the place was nowhere near full.
