Stayed in Puerto Rico before so one thing we always do is book on this side of the hill where you get the sun in the evening rather than the morning. After looking at a few this seemed the most reasonable so for price we paid was not expecting much. However what can I say!!! On arrival we met the most accomodating receptionist who was very helpfull. As we arrived early we had to wait 30mins for the room to be prepared which was made priority. Whilst we where waiting we had a few beers and met Lorriane the entertainment manager who was just lovely and explained what happens at the apartments during day and night. Receptionist came to advise our room was now ready. Room 202 2nd floor. On entering the room someone had folled the towls into animal shapes and made a patern with the tiolet roll!! Last time we seen this was 5 Star accomodation!!
Bathroom - Shower, Sink, Toilet and Biddet
Bedrood - 2 Single beds (can be pushed together) 2 wardrobes, Mirror with lighting.
Mainroom - Open plan with Kitchen. Tv chairs, lots of plates and cuttlry
Overall really clean and presented. The maintainence guy knocked 5mins later to check all fixtures and fittings where working. The one that weren't (odd light bulb) where immediatly replaced. Also I did pull the handle off the door and this was replaced immediatly so no issues there at all.
Balcony was big and nice. Washing line, chairs tables etc.
Facilities - Large pool which was warm with the sun. Lots of sunbeds, tables and parasols. Pool bar in which again staff where lovely. Pool tables. 2 internet boothes. and a few kids games. There was also a tv room behind the bar.
As beach / sea people we only stayed arround the hotel for one on day (massive hangover) but found it to be really good. Lorraine was not in your face like the usual entertainment, she was really laid back and did what the guests want. I had a game of shula (not spelt correct) which I won, but it's a cracking game. She also did crazy golf, pool aerobics and her own versions of pop stars etc. Lorraine treats it as a bit of fun / laugh which indeed it was.
All in all a good result of a Holiday!!

the apartments are cheap and cheerful. basic but very clean(no unwanted creatures).the cleaners are in nearly every day.the apartments have everything you will need including an oven(very rare).the pool area is great and the food and service at the pool bar is great but the best thing by far at these apartments is the entertainer lorraine.she is brilliant at her job offering a variety of activities throughout the day and evening.she makes a point of greeting everyone but is in no way pushy if you just want to relax and do your own thing she will leave you in peace.we have an 11 year old and he got involved in everything(so did i)and my wife got to chill out by the pool.we have been coming to puerto rico for over 15 years and would say this was the best holiday so far. we are returning to these apartments in september.i would recommend these apartments to anyone.we had a great time so will you. ps. las vegas steak house in the shopping centre is the best restaurant in puerto rico i recommend you give it a go....yum yum...try the fillet steak....

My husband and myself stayed at these apartments, and had an great holiday. The apartments are basic with everything that you need, we adapted to using the cooking equipment well. We stayed on the ground floor, which walked out to the swimming pool, and close to the Pool Bar. Our room was cleaned on most days of our stay. All the staff including the cleaning maids were friendly and spoke to us. Lorraine was brilliant putting on lots of games and entertainment for all ages, she went out of her way to make everyone welcome and join in if they wanted to.
We found the taxis cheap to get around, and also used the bus to go to Maspalomas and back. We had a boat ride to Mogan on market day.
The shops were a short distance from the apartments, and the walk to the beach is not far. There are many restaurants to choose, offering a wide range of dishes throughout the day (including the bar at the apartments).
We definately will go back to Castillo Del sol apartments again, and would recomend them to all our friends and family.

Stayed at castillo last August wit my partner for a week! Hotel very clean, rooms cleaned and towels changed everyday! Staff VERY pleaseant, always says hello! Poolside entertainer Loraine was the best! Never leaves anybody out and always has the kids smiling and laughing, never mind the adults too! Always has the kids shouting 'Ooooh laa laa! Little restaurant just next to the hotel, amazing! Food there is brilliant, not dear either! Real nice staff! Alot of sun so good place to sit by the pool! Food from the pool bar is good, the pizzas and chips but to be honest wouldnt recomend and egg, slighty undercooked! Everything about htis hotel was great except for no air conditioning, which was bad cos we went in august! Had to make do wit a fan that eventually started blowing around hot air :( all in all though I would definatley go back, if not for anything more than to see Lorraine again :D:D:D

We came to Castillo Del Sol on a real last minute holiday, not sure what to expect of the accommodation (Read lots of reviews) But we were very happy with our 6 day stay here.
The apartment was basic but very clean, rooms cleaned everyday apart from 1, very good location to all ammenities, brilliant views (you can see the sea) from the balcony (which was a good size balcony)and only about a 15 min walk to the beach. All staff we're very friendly and helpful too.
A lot of people said in reviews the steps we're a problem but its obvious its going to be hilly as its a volcanic island, although we are a couple in our 20s and reasonably fit, so not really an issue for us. Not the best for wheelchair or pushchair access.
All in all an excellent holiday, beautiful place and we shall definately be returning.

Our first time in Puerto Rica was a nice excperience. Lovly place. We stayed one week at Castillo Sol, and that will alsoe be our hotel next time. A very nice staff gave us a very nice stay. Cleaning was good, towels and room cleaning almost every day. And important.. at 1 week, we did not find any insect in our rooms.. The only smal thing i didnt like, i did not get acces to internet by my laptop from our room, i have to go to pool area to get signals.

The apartments were not the best, cleanliness of the floors could have been better, sink plugs did not hold the water, in our apartment the lights in the bathroom and plug sockets in general were very dodgy, the fridge door did not close the magnetic strip was broke and window security was not good we had to make sure they were securely locked before going out which would be closed and with no aircon the heat was very over whelming on your return.
Going self catering i would have expected a kettle but had to hire one from the reception 22 euro's i think with 12 euro's returned at the end of your stay, also fans were available to hire too.
now the good bits, Lorraine was sensational as the apartment entertainments person - she was so good, the girls in the beach bar always polite and well presented, under the castillo del sol you will find one of the best restaurants on the island run by Peter (from newcastle) and Juan, the service is second to none peter will go 110% to make sure what you are getting is the very best.
in the centre below the apartments visit San Miguel's arguably the best in the centre, when you look around outside - people are queueing to get in and other restaurants are completely empty, if you do have to wait you will be served free honey rum while you wait. I hope you enjoyed reading my very honest review - happy hols. John

Just returned with my partner and little boy from one weeks stay at the castillo del sol. The apartments i found to be clean and most staff nice, the entertainer Lorraine was lovely and always tried her best to include everyone. The apartments were extremly small and had no air conditioning and were basic but you do pay for what you get i suppose. The location was ideal to shops if you don't mind the steps but it is a good ten minutes walk to the beach so not great if you have small kids, the weather was fab and i would return to Gran Canaria but i would not stay in these apartments again but like i say they are clean and basic.

Had an amazing time in Puerto Rico last summer - Castillo Del Sol was really good accommodation, very handy to the beach, shops and bars! was mostly younger couples/groups when we were there but some families too. apartments were very clean and staff were friendly. only down side was the cleaner disappeared with the towels one morning while my boyfriend was in the shower, and didn't return them until the next day! but that didn't ruin our holiday at all! the apartments are very basic but offer pretty much everything you need for a good relaxing holiday, we weren't looking for amazing high-quality accommodation anyway!
there are loads of steps from the apartments down to the town, they can be difficult to climb in the heat but taxis are handy and cheap...I managed to lose a lot of weight in 2 weeks from climbing them!
I definitely recommend these aprtments for younger couples and groups who just want to get away and have a laugh/relax.

Have just returned back after a week staying at castillo del sol and it was brilliant. The only down fall is the matress/ bed is hard and uncomfortable and didnt get much sleep. Lorranine the entertainer was great and made our holiday even better. The rep was rubbish and was unhelpful and didnt really make an effort to talk to you. the pool was clean and the weather was really hot. Would well recommend this holiday to everyone. Staff are friendly. Watch out for people short changing you. Its gone quite expensive over there from when me and my mum went there 2 years ago. An icecream is 2.50 and walkers crisps are 1.20 just for 1 packet. Met loads of nice people here all very friendly. going back next year !!!

Just come back from a 2 week holiday at the castillo de sol. Worst holiday of my life.
To start with they put us a family of 5 in a one bedroom apartment. No keetle, no toaster, 3 knifes, forks and spoons. No clean towels for the first 3 days. Bidet not plumbed in, moved, and my two year old kept flooding the bathroom , turning it on. Shower wet the bathroom though.
whilst staying at the hotel there was painters in, leaving sheets all over the place with dripping paint. Don't wear your new shoes!
swimming pool stairs moved,a hazzard to all. Never repaired for the whole time there.
Rooms absolutely roosting, no air conditioning, not even an option of paying for the use of it.
For the first week i shared what can only be described as a park bench with a thin cushion on with my two year old son, so that my husband and other 2 infants could share the bed.
After one week i could not take no more, and moved out.
we only went there because other family members had already booked. Worst accomidation i have ever stayed in.
