El Sombrero apartments are stunning and in our opinion well exceeding the official rating. A gentle walk of 10 minutes from the main resort up a slight incline, they provide the perfect base for a holiday. The majority of the balconies get the sun for most of the day with... more

One 'El of a good 'oliday!
We've just returned from Los Gigantes, staying at El Sombrero. We specifically booked El Sombrero through our travel agent, after reading reviews on TripAdvisor and similar sites - and we were not disappointed. We had a studio apartment, which overlooked the resort, sea and la Gomera. It was nipping clean - maids came five days out of seven and we had fresh towels three times without asking. The studio was massive - I've stayed in smaller one bed apts before! You may get one or two pigeons visiting while you have your morning cuppa, especially if you have biscuits. The only downside was a little bit of noise on a morning (about 7.30am) but it only lasted for about 5-10 minutes. We ate out all the time - it was just as cheap as eating in - and can recommend the Sangria bar for breakfasts and snacks. They do a full english and tea for two people for 13E. We ate at Little Italy four days out of the seven (evening meals) and found their sirloin steak was excellent - in taste and in value - only 6.25E. Their pizzas were massive - couldn't eat a whole one, and the pasta was very tasty and filling. Generally wherever we ate and drank we received a warm and friendly welcome. The resort is small, but it is easy and cheap to travel to other parts of the island. A taxi to La Arena beach cost 3E, and there was a regular bus service which went to Los Christianos. The beach in Los Gigantes is a fair enough size and sunbeds cost 2E each for the whole day (9am-5pm). There were no parasols, however. There is also a lido down from the Paradiso de Sol restaurant - just follow the road. The beach is towards the harbour - its the turning on your right after Little Italy. There's also a fish restaurant just by the beach where prices are reasonable. TJs have a comic drag act on Tuesday nights - get their early to get a good spot as it packs out. Domingos is more for the over 50's. Highland Paddy's is best for watching sport as they have a huge screen indoors. Generally the pace is slow and peaceful. Its not for you if you like to go clubbing - although taxis are cheap so you could nip into Puerto Santigo/La Arena for a night out. There are more shops and restaurants in these areas if you can't find what you are looking for in Los Gigantes. There is a short cut between the streets so you can walk to Tamaimo/Puerto Santigo in less than 15 minutes. A stroll to La Arena would probably take up to an hour! Aparently the old main road has collapsed and vehicles use the new road further inland, but is still accessible by foot. Overall, we had a really good holiday - an excellent resort for getting a bit of winter sun and de-stressing before the Christmas period. We would definitely go back to the resort, and to El Sombrero in future. Well recommended if you like it quiet and relaxing.
Fantastic Holiday
the apts are excellent value for money and are clean and well looked after.the pool bar is run by suzanne and she serves really nice food and drinks at reasonable prices.it is very relaxing place to stay with no music blaring out. there are some really nice places to eat out little italy does an excellent lasagne across the road is a small cafe called ocean drive which does a very nice breakfast and evening meal churchills is a small bar on the harbour which is a nice place to have a drink at night time tjs is a caberet bar next to the los gigantes hotel and has different acts on everynight.joanne who owns the bar is very friendly and makes you feel very welcome. los gigantes is a bit hilly but you are on holiday so take your time and chill will defo be returning back again soon
Here you go!
Stayed at the El Sombrero in Room 6 for 2 weeks. The hotel itself is very small and quiet, no entertainment but this was nice and relaxing. Kid's pool was great for my 2 year old and the beer and food at the pool bar was good and very reasonable. Room's are quite dated but very large and spacious and the balcony's are huge and the view is amazing. Los Gigantes is a great place and would definately visit here again. If your after a hotel with a disco this is not the place to go but for a relaxing break and you're willing to walk for 5 minutes for food and entertainment then this is a great stopover.
Heaven!
We've just returned from our first trip to Tenerife, what a wonderful time we had, I don't know why we haven't been there before. Los Gigantes is a lovely place to relax with really good restaurants and a wonderful public lido if you fancy a change from the appartment pool. We stayed at El Sombrero and were really pleased with our appartment although we were on the ground floor so didn't have a view but a great one to people watch! The pool bar is very reasonable and the food is good. Its a very friendly place and because its so small everyone talks to you. We had a trip to Los Christianos and were so glad we didn't stay there. We will be going to El Sombrero next year hopefully to an appartment on a higher floor!

we stopped at el sombero los gigantes for a week in october 2006 well what a holiday the apartment was fantastic and big plenty of room for four we had a dinning room living room 1 bedroom kitchen the view from the balcony was fantastic los gigantes is fantastic we ate most nights at the kopper kettle just down a little side street i just cant say enough about the holiday it was brill
A great Holiday
Our first time in Tenerife What a good choice Gigantes and El Sombrero turned out to be We visited Americas and Cristianos so glad we didnt stay there The apartments are great value for money Staff friendly and helpful Beautifully clean We walked to nearby resorts of Puerto Santiago and La Arena and used the excellent bus service to go further afield. Buy a 12 euro bus ticket from the newsagents in the square and all bus travel is half price!
Special place in the sun
My girlfriend and I booked these quiet apartments for a quiet week away after a hectic summer renovating at home. We had booked a studio but on arrival got an upgrade to a 1 bed - good start! The apt was spacious with a good size bedroom and living area with kitchen behind breakfast bar. We even had a pool view too. Reception small and you didn't see them but were helpful with any questions asked. The pool is on the small side but I don't go on holiday to do olympic swimming anyway. As its a smaller hotel you tend to talk more to the other guests whilst sunbathing etc and this made for a fantastic atmosphere during the day. Most people had been there before which speaks for itself. Tried the pool bar too, nice pint, good food, but the waitress couldn't understand what I was saying ie ask for a coffee and she thought I meant an ashtray! she was nice and pleasant and she's not to blame, maybe I should touch up on my spanish. Los Gigantes is a beautiful quaint little town with some lovely restaurants to eat in and has the best cake tea / shop I have ever been in. Its ideal for a week but maybe too small for two weeks. For superb pasta try La Terraza down at the marina, best I've ever had with fresh fish, salmon etc daily. We had a brilliant time, I even proposed to my girlfriend on our balcony and she said yes! so it will always hold a special memory for us. Thankyou El Sombrero for a fantastic holiday - we'll be back!! M Gillan, Scotland
Nice stay
Stayed here for a second time in January 2006. The weather was a bit iffy but we found the accomodation to be as good as we remembered. The first time we stayed we had a one bedroomed apartment but this time we were in a studio. The studio had plenty of room and storage for 2 people and we liked the separate kitchen. The only problem was that the water tank was a bit small so no lingering in the shower. The rooms, pool and complex are kept really clean and El Sombrero is a good base for a relaxing holiday. The snack bar serves good light food and Ana prepares a lovely tuna salad. We found Los Gigantes to be a bit more expensive than during our last stay in the summer of 2004. Eating out was about the same price as at home and a vodka and coke was averaging about 5 euros although they are LARGE measures. Enjoyed the walk through to Puerto De Santiago and some nice bars and restaurants there. Would be happy to stay at these apartments again.
Okey Dokey
Cheap clean comfortable and wonderful for families. Not really for couples. Everything on site for children and parents.
Its Beautiful
I thought Los Gigantes was really beautiful, i know it is hilly but you get used to it, the scenery is amazing and the people very friendly, the apartments were basic but we had everything we needed for a self catering holiday, the only thing i did notice when we travelled around Tenerife is that food and eating out was much cheaper else where e.g. las americas and peurto del a cruz, if you do go its a must to go to mount teide and also on a catermaran to look for pilot whales and dolphins.
