We have stayed in Tenerife before but this was our first time at El Sombrero and we were thrilled with the whole holiday. The staff at El Sombrero were very helpful and friendly, the rooms were clean ,spacious and well cared for too. Suzanne at the pool side bar was a great cook and always happy, helpful and smiling. We were made very welcome and would love to go back again.

Me and my husband went with my 4 year old boy for a relaxing holiday it was great. We went to many local resturants in the local area and enjoyed the meals and drink. Because we had a 4 year old we thought we would be restricted to going out, and the local pubs where so friendly we quiet often went out. Overall we recommend this holiday to anyone. And we also concieved twins on this holiday! Great place to go we can't wait to go again. I would recommend anyone to go here and experience this holiday. A1

This was our first ever family holiday abroad. We arrived at night and just went straight to bed. We awoke to a perfect sea view, glorious sunshine and the parrots sat in the palm trees.
The apartment was spacious and clean and the kitchen was adequate for our needs. The grounds were well kept. The pool is not huge, but El Sombrero is not a big complex and therefore does not need a big pool.
Having the supermarket only five minutes from the apartment was really handy, especially as it was downhill on the way back.
For a family who do not want nightclubs and like a quiet relaxing holiday, Los Gigantes is ideal. There are plenty of places to eat, offering English and Canary cuisine. We will definitely be going back!
Our only complaint about El Sombrero was that the bar closed a bit early.

El Sombrero is in a great central location within Los Gigantes, with everywhere being within walking distance. It's a small but friendly resort.
Small pool but clean and tidy and has a good number of sunbeds. Bar/snack bar poolside is good and reasonably priced. Public Lido is just 5 mins walk away and that's great for the kids for a small admission.
The apartment itself is a little dated and that's really where I mark it down. The size is great and we had a lovely first floor balcony with marvellous views. Interior is a little dark and dated though. Kitchen is adequate, and the place is cleaned regularly.
Little Italy is a great place to eat just a five minutes’ walk away.

Our first time in Tenerife excellent apartments overall very clean.
staff very helpful fresh towels every day the gardens are kept clean, Susan at the pool bar is very friendly and make very good bar meals.
Los gigantes is a lovely place is well worth the visit.
You must go to tj’s bar and see bitter and twisted excellent drag act!
Go to the friendly dolphin for breakfast and food at the harbour mark and his partner are very nice. Nice place to go for food if you want good English food and the bamboo bar next to that is a nice place to have a drink.
You must go and see the dolphins on a boat trip with first class tours the best 10 euros spent and 5 euros for the kids, it only takes out 30 people at a time, so book early
Would go back to Tenerife again.

Excellent apartments overall. Very clean, very spacious. Staff very helpful especially Susan at the pool bar.
Facilities good. Pool is good and very clean and gardens kept up to a good standard. Enough shops and restaurants around.
Los Gigantes is no good if you want a clubbing holiday and if you have walking difficulties as parts are up hills.

This was are first visit to Tenerife, and was not disappointed are apartment was a little basic but very clean.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful with fresh towels most days.
We knew Los Gigantes was a quieter area which was just perfect.
I would recommend anybody to El Sombrero Apartments, providing you don’t mind walking up steep hills, we will visit again soon as made to feel welcome.

Our first time in Tenerife The resort of Gigantes is just what we wanted No gangs of youths and girls, no ticket touts Plenty of nice places to eat and at good prices Only draw back no stroll along the beach. But we walked to Puerto Santiago and La Arena several times
The apartment was good value for money Only 2 of us in a spacious one bedroomed. Had everything we needed. (But we didn't cook anyway) A microwave would have been a plus. Very clean. We stayed 2 weeks beds were changed 6 times towels every other day
Staff were very friendly and helpful for a couple of days we noticed some "slime" floating in the pool. We mentioned it to the manager and the next morning an army of pool cleaners and inspectors ensured the pool was back to its impeccable condition

We have just returned from a great week at the El Sombrero Apartments in Los Gigantes, Tenerife.
The accommodation was very clean with regular maid service, and a room with a sea view! At no extra charge. The pool area was adequate however as the baby pool was just that, with about a foot of water and the adult pool was too deep for our four year old we used two of the excellent public pools within the resort. The facilities were good with fantastic views across the impressive cliffs. The Oasis pool was great with an infants pool and two slides in the big pool for the older kids, we had some excellent food at the snack bar there.
Las Gigantes itself was lovely only small and plenty of places to eat, with full English breakfast in many! There was a mix of more traditional restaurants also if egg and chips became too boring! The boat trip from the lovely harbour to see the Dolphins was a memorable few hours, and we even were shown an Eagles nest perched up on the enormous cliffs.
Overall a great holiday and would definitely go back. A few places we wouldn’t go to again in Tenerife due to yob culture and timeshare touts, however Las Gigantes seemed to have avoided this and hopefully will continue to do so.

We had stayed in the Sombrero apartments 10 years ago, and had a very enjoyable holiday, so decided to take another chance as the opportunity presented itself.
We were not disappointed, the apartments and staff were just as good as last time, apartments were very clean & spacious, with plenty of cupboard & wardrobe space, which is great if you have a family with you, the kitchen was well equipped and quite adequate, we did ask at the reception if we could hire a toaster, as hubby likes his toast for breakfast in the mornings, and was surprised that, a toaster was delivered free of charge just half an hour later, by one of the members of the very friendly staff.
We only stayed for 1 week, and although the bed was made every day, the sheets were changed only once, towels were changed daily. The gardens and pool area were well kept also.
The only thing we found which had changed, in ten years, was that, as we had got older, the steep slope down to the harbour and many restaurants, seemed to have got steeper coming back up the hill, which is a good warning for the less mobile of you out there, my husband was recovering a hip replacement, and l had a dodgy knee, thankfully though there were a few bars, to break the journey back up the hill.
Dining out is relatively cheap, l can highly recommend 'Le Pescador' which serves a variety of local dishes, to suit all tastes, and pockets. And there is also plenty of choice including English dishes to be found in other bars.
The hotel pool was clean, but sun beds were uncomfortable, so we spent most of the time down at the lido, near the harbour.
Good points in Los Gigantes.
Plenty boat trips, friendly bars, cheap local bus travel, (and on time) great scenery & sunsets.
Bad points.
Not good for wheelchair users, or disabled. Not enough night life going on for anyone who likes clubbing it. Long coach transfer from airport. We loved it though probably go back again sometime.

Los Gigantes is lovely but quiet and very English- if you're looking for a clubbing holiday or something cultural, avoid it. The surroundings are gorgeous and it's worth hiring a car to get out of the resort to see some of the island, which is really beautiful. People there- English and Spanish- are generally very friendly and there's a good atmosphere.
We found El Sombrero to be a bit of a let down- having stayed in other hotels in the area these were by far the worst. They were really uncomfortable, badly equipped (one knife in an apartment for 4 people for example), not cleaned once in the week that we were there and the staff were (in general) unhelpful and rude.
They also charge you for everything- we invested in a TV which only had one English channel (BBC1). But on the plus side, they are fairly cheap (though not good value), well-situated and the communal bits are lovely- nice gardens, lovely pool bar staff.

Booked Holiday through www.holdiaymania.co.uk for my friend and I who holiday together every year, luckily we are compatible.
We booked a 1 bed apartment in El Sombrero, we arrived after midnight and were allocated a shoe box studio on the 1str floor.,clean enough yes, separate kitchen with oven toaster kettle, good enough bathroom, but not even a shelf to put a bar of soap on, let alone the commodities 2 women would have or 2 weeks!!
We were furious, but tired having journeyed from Belfast, we slept the night in thsi shoe box.
Next morning we went to Reception to ask about our apartment.
The Manager wanted to charge us £285 to upgrade, eventhough we had already paid, our ticket did not mention studio, merely 2 weeks s/s accomm.
We did not pay.
We were advised to go to Welcome meeting of Thos Cooke hosted by a rather rotund gentleman, named Bob, who appeared, breathless and persipiring about 1 pm, at the pool bar, with no information whatever, but pointed to the ''best supermarket where one could buy necessities''. I approached him regarding our dilemma, and hearing my gentle (at this stage Irish brogue,) I immediately sensed his lack of love for anything Irish. He said he would make a phone call which he pretended , breathlessly to do and returned to out table to say there was nothing could be done...........'' ya can take ih up wa 'im an er''. Furious and uninformed I rang my booking site and got no reply either to emails or ph calls.
We deafeatedly remained in El Sombrero for 2 weeks, which felt like a pilgrimage.
The apartments were clean, not that we saw them, out studio was cleaned frequently, E50 for TV for 2 weeks a bit steep, as channels didnt work, Safe rental E40..no phones in room, Reception closed from 1-5pm daily and reopened only until 9pm.
After 7 pm the block became almost monk like with silence, We hadnt intended to go mad , but would have liked some entertainment, not a thing, the pool snack bar which was quite ncie and ran by a very friendly efficient lady, (all by herself) closed at 4pm. bar at 5.
No supermarket on site.
Town Los Gigantes, ok, plenty of rogue traders selling dodgy camera equipment, and signs up in Spanish, ''No refunds,'' beware, my friend got stung with a camera and he refused to return her money having paid E375 , he had actually bagged a heap of junk worth less than E50, a bit of IRISH pressure from me, made him hand out hte product she had paid for.!!!!!!!!!!
Overall, bored out of our minds, though high season, pubs were empty, resturaunts bleak, nothign to do after 7pm.
Good bus service to Los Cristianos every 15 mins til the late hrs at only E3.70 each way, one would die without seeing something, we went a few times.
Did the island tour to La Gomera, dont chose the El Sombrero package which costs a lot more than the tour operator down the street. La Gomera was great, but if you are scared of HEIGHTS, this is not the place, looking down into steep valleys from narrow road, Guide did a great deal of talking about flora and fauna, but not so much pertinent to where we may have been at the time. Enjoyed the trip,
Overall, if you simply want to see no-one, or do nothing, only perhaps read, do cross words and retire to your room at 6-7pm, El Sombrero is the place, Los Gigantes hasnt a great deal to offer, great scenery yes, but one tires of it with nothing by way of amusement.
I will return to the Canary Isles again, but next time we will return to our favourite haunt in Maspalomas, in Gran Canaria.
Good points being that we felt very safe and left patio door open all night, no air conditioning in blistering heat.,
I can just imagine if tourists coming to Irish Hotels had to pay for TV and safe and so on, there would be an immediate revolution.
Spain has little to offer except the Sun, and one feels like being on a conveyor belt emptying our wallets on the way.
No one says '' How are you after your trip?''
No one says ''Good-bye, pleasant trip, or thank you for staying with us'',just simply ''hand us back your key'' and off you go, to make way for the next batch of victims.
Why oh why doesnt the sun shine in England Ireland Scotland or Wales, where we are each of us, gifted with some sort of personality.
I have been to Spain some 15 times now and each year, one feels robbed, in one way or another.
I am easily pleased, I do not mind paying for something, but i do MIND BEING ROBBED.
WONT BE BACK
