Villa Delle Palme Reviews

10 / 10
Mar 2009, Gocsi

We were in Venice for three days in March, after the Carneval. It was a great choice, there was not too much tourist, but the weather was nice. Villa delle Palme was a great choice! It was very clean, the furniture style went to the venezian atmosphere. It has a tower, from... more

Hidden Jewel
Stayed 2 nights in Villa Delle Palme. Here are my impressions: Location: Not on the main island. You have to take the ferry 15-20 minutes. Really this is a small inconvenience given the quality of the hotel. The ferry is fast, easy and frankly it is a "tour" you'd likely pay for happily to view the islands. On the island, many good and reasonably priced restaurants within 10 minutes. Rooms: Excellent. The hotel is a converted manor of some kind, feels far more like a B&B. Rennovation is recent and everything is new and clean. Parking: There are some spots on sight, and we had one of them. Getting the car out is a challenge, and they actually asked ME to move the other guests cars to get mine! (Trust me, a Mercedes diesel with a left-handed shift is a challenge for a North American, but I got it out dent free!) Services: Breakfast is average. Internet available on sight but not free. Friendly staff. Overall: Really this is a GREAT hotel. You save some $$ because you are off the main island, but I would go back on every trip to Venice. It is a 5 star accommodation for Italy and the only inconvienice is a short ferry ride to the heart of Venice.
Nice place, great service, right price, convenient
Our stay was very pleasant. The hotel staff was helpful and conscientious. The breakfast was as good a continental breakfast as I've had anywhere and as much as you would care to eat. The desk man will brew a cup of cappucino any time you might need a warmup. Our room was small but the kingsize bed was very comfortable. The blackout curtains prevent any unwanted light from entering your room. The shower takes place in a 26" elongated cube. The shower head is adjustable but entering the shower would be a challenge for anyone of rubenesque proportions. I dropped the soap once and had to turn off the water, open the doors, and bend over to retrieve the soap before reversing the sequence to continue my shower. There is an overlook tower atop the hotel that permits views of the sea, the housetops of Lido, and across the lagoon to St.Marks square. November can be and was cold and wet, so bring warm clothes. Umbrellas are cheap to buy if you forget the slicker. For new travelers to Venice and Lido: water taxis from the airport are very expensive (80-120 E), leaving two reasonable alternatives to Lido. The city operated water bus (vaporetto) is cheapest (20.5 E for 72 hr pass). After purchasing pass, you catch a bus to Piazza Roma, whence you walk down to the water's edge and take #1 vaporetto to Lido (many stops, about 1 hour ride along Grand Canal). From Lido back to Venice, St.Marks is the 3rd stop, or about 10 minute ride from Lido. The other alternative is to purchase a ticket on Alialaguna (wings of the lagoon), which is 20E from airport to Lido. You catch a short shuttle to waterside and take the Alialaguna boat from there. The city vaporettos are all well marked and routes are denoted on maps at quayside but not on the vessels themselves. The stand where you buy your ticket for either is in the airport lobby, sharply to the left. Conversely, the ATM is sharply to the right as you enter the lobby. Once you get to Lido quay, roads go R, L, and several straight ahead. Go straight ahead: if after 100 yards your are walking on white tiled sidewalk you are going correctly. Turn R at the first designated street, noting the store on the corner that sells bread, cheese, wine, meats and fruit (opens about 0630 and closes about 2000). Go 1 block, turn right, crossing over a canal. Hotel Villa Delle Palme is about 100 meters down the street to your left (look for the lookout tower atop it). Allow time to get to airport or train station when you leave. The train station is only one stop before P.Roma, so you will have a long ride on #1. The #52 vaporetto has fewer stops but still takes almost an hour. 2nd class tickets are available from machine in the train station, 9.4 E to Florence (Firenze). Be sure to get ticket validated in the orange time/date wall-hung machine before boarding. I recommend the secret tour of the Doge Palace. Reserve your spot the day ahead. Learn all about Cassanova's escape from the prison there...he's the only one who made it.
Excellent & Comfortable Hotel
We stayed for four nights with another couple. The rooms were extremely well decorated throughout. Our shower was very compact & you had to sqeeze in but the second room had a lovely shower so it was the luck of the draw. The comfort, Decor & Price made up for this though. The buffet breakfast was reasonably good with orange juice, choice of cereal, cheese, ham & rolls (NO EGGS), Yogurt, apricot jam filled croissants, choice of jams, tea/coffee. Although it did get a bit boring after 4 days. The hotel was close to the ferry - about 5 minutes walk & the recption staff were very friendly & helpful.
Wonderfull Hotel
Stayed there for two nights in last january. Wonderful house, interesting architecture. Supereb view from roof trerrace. Direct boat connection from airport an into Venice. Highly recommendable for a quiet romantic tour to Venice.
Lived up to the Previous Reviews
Having stayed in the heart of Venice before, it was a relief to get away from the crowds and this hotel is so convenient both for the relative peace of the main drag and for getting over to the islands and Venice itself. We found all the local bar people particularly friendly, even if the service was slow at times! Great to sit and watch the world go by on a Sunday morning. We had room 28, which was possibly the best, having its own balcony above the main door (okay we paid for a superior room) and the beds were only 2foot 6 singles, but what would you expect in Venice? At least we could move easily around the room and there was even a couch to sit on. Perhaps one could do with more shelves, though the hanging space was adequate. The only warning to anyone wanting this room is that you need to be quite trim to get into and out of the shower which only opened wide enough for us to get through sideways! I would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to stay away from the hustle and bustle of Venice and particularly if you want to chill off on the (rather frenetic by English standards) beach, and do ask the concierge for the best part of the beach to use - it's worth paying for a chair and parasol even if it does go against the grain to a Brit!
Great stay at the Villa Delle Palme
We choose this hotel from the Tripadvisor reviews and we were very pleased. It was very warm in Venice when we were there, and returning to this hotel was like entering a beatiful oasis. Everything about this hotel is perfect, from the decor - fabulous - to the comfotable beds and efficient air conditioning. It is a great value for money, compared to staying on the main island of Venice. The staff was very friendly and recommended two good restaurants on the island of Lido which we enjoyed very much. The island of Lido is much quieter than the main island, and has a more family oriented atmosphere. We enjoyed taking the water bus to and from the main island every day, and would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Charming Villa Close to Venice
We stayed at Villa delle Palme for 4 days. I am glad we did. We definitely got more for our money as opposed to staying in Venice. The hotel is located on the lagoon side on the Lido Island ( the one that separated Venice from the Adriatic sea), close to the Lido boat stop (about 3-5 minutes walk). Boats run often enough and it takes only 10-15 minutes to get to San Marco. On a hot day you can walk to the public beach (10 minutes away). The staff was helpful. The restaurant in Venice that they recommended was great. However, I would advise against booking a gondola ride through them. If you have questions- email me. The rooms were nicely decorated. Reminded me of French Châteaux's. Quiet. . Beautiful lobby. Beautiful garden. The breakfast was nice. We had almost anecdotic experience eating on Lido, so I can't recommend any dining there. PS One problem. The shower in our bathroom had no cover. None. The water went all over. I guess because we got a handicap accessible room. I don't know what a handicap shower can't have a curtain around....
Great Hotel & Location
The hotel was a great choice if you don't want to stay in Venice. We found the Lido island to be charming and restful, which was just what we wanted. The rooms at the hotel were nicely done. We appreciated the rooptop view and nice garden as well. No complaints!
What a nice place!
I can't say enough about this hotel. It is an old renovated mansion with french decor and a yard. It was small, quite, beautiful, clean and had friendly staff at the front desk. Perfect if you have a car, which is why we stayed on Lido. It felt like staying at a friends home in a quite neighborhood. It was a short walk to the ferry. This was the best place I stayed in Italy.
A wonderful place to stay!
We spent 2 nights in the wonderful hotel and it "made" our stay in Venice. The room was lovely, with a terrace, and extremely comfortable. The shower a bit tiny! Roberta at the front desk went out of her way to recommend restaurants and places to go. It is off the main island of Venice, but a short 15 minute boat ride in and well worth being away from the noise of the city. The beach is nice.
