Loved the Divani Caravel
My family and I recently stayed at the Divani Caravel, in Athens, Greece. What a wonderful hotel! From the moment we arrived we were greeted by their friendly staff. The rooms are nicely decorated and comfortable and everything is very clean. The view from the roof top pool is spectacular! The breakfast buffet is delicious. They have a very convenient shuttle service to the main square throughout the day which we took advantage of several times. There is also a bus stop across the street and metro station nearby. Also... more
Extremely Nice Hotel -
I stayed here just before the Olympics began (couple Days before). Excellent Hotel. It was our honeymoon so they gave us the nice suite. It had hardwood floor, 2 seperate rooms. Bedroom and sitting area. Really large window. View of the city street..view was nothing great but it's Athens.. You can see the little church perched on top of the hilltop. Apparently from the other review there is a view of the Acropolis which I did not know. Bathroom linens are superb, excellent robes, slippers, etc. This was the only hotel on my... more
Outstanding buffet breakfast!
We stayed at the Caravel on June 11, 2004 for the final night of a two-week Greek Islands tour package arranged through World of Vacations. Check-in/Reception: Our group of about a dozen travellers arrived at the Caravel in midafternoon on a Friday, and everyone was checked in, given room keys and sent on their way to their rooms in less than 10 minutes. The front desk staff were pleasant, helpful and efficient. They also were helpful in promptly investigating an annoying buzzing sound in our room, and cheerfully offering to move us... more
Rooms were stuffy; Noisy outside!
Nice/swanky hotel (although not 5 star by U.S. standards). Located in very bustling section of town. Subway stop is quite a hike and you have to life-threateningly cross an extremely busy highway. There is a free shuttle every 30 to 45 minutes that'll take you to Plaka for shopping. Otherwise, take a cab. Rooftop pool has oversweeping view of Athens & Acropolis but pool closes by 7pm. Both rooms we had were nice, clean but stuffy (we had 2 rooms/opposite ends) so we had to open the windows. Not a good idea either: it was extremely... more
Not Bad
Not a bad hotel, but not a five star by North American standards. Staff were friendly enough but the management was on the arrogant side. We received no help whatsoever when we tried to cash Euro travelers cheques (use Canadian, American, or British currency). The air-conditioning was not on as it was November, however the room was quite stuffy and the temp did get up to 25 degrees Celsius during the day. We had to keep the window open and suffered with extreme noise. Our view from the window was horrible, as we looked into apartments across... more
Overall good
The interior was very nice; lobby and dinning area were nice. Had several cafes, restaurants around the corner, small convenience store (periptero) accross the street (i'd buy water from there instead of from the bar). Breakfast was good... liked the yogurt & honey and the scrambled eggs & tomato. Quick bus ride to plaka. The only major complaint I had was the view. All we could see were rooftops and antennas. No balcony either. Didn't have much of a choice, they were overbooked and had to scramble to find us a room.
Dreadful
Several of us stayed here for a long period of time recently. The staff were friendly but the management were arrogant and unhelpful. The beds and pillows were probably the most uncomfortable of any hotel of this class that I have stayed in. The so called sound-proofed rooms let in an incredible amount of traffic noise, even on the 6th floor. In it's favour, the AC was effective and the pay movie channels good, however the normal TV service provided very little for the English speaker. I would avoid the place at all costs - and it does cost!
