Luna Holiday Complex

The Luna Holiday Complex is easy to find. It is the large beige building with "Luna Holiday Complex" written across the top of it in large, illuminated yellow letters. It is right in front of you as you drive into Melliha Bay from Melliha - not that you would want to approach from that side. It is far better to bypass Melliha on road 1 and come into the bay the other side. Parking is best attempted on the lunar surface to the rear. This is accessed via the road at the right hand end of the building. Alternatively there are a few more challenging roadside spaces in front of the hotel. All parking opportunities disappear at the weekend with locals and divers alike all desperate to park as close to the water as possible. The inside of the hotel is a maze of white and beige corridors, punctuated with the many lifts, stairwells and not exits. Clearly someone got a laminator Christmas as the walls are rich in often inane written instruction. Our room was clean and of a moderate size with a balcony overlooking the road in front and the graveyard beyond. The bed was a small double with an additional sofa bed screwed to the wall. The fridge and surface top grill / oven were both small but serviceable. The twin gas rings were supplied from a yellow bottle on the balcony until we isolated the tank to stop the balcony smelling of gas so. There were three dining chairs around a table in the room and two patio chairs on the balcony. Most critical of all was the ceiling fan that we supplemented with a pedestal fan from reception. There was no television and a much better room was shown on the cover of the hotel hand book. Our bathroom was large (for a bathroom) and while supplied with a sink and lavatory there was no actual bath. The walk in shower was though big enough for two people - provided they knew each other very well, or wanted to, and providing that they didn't intend on getting particularly wet. The immersion tank on the wall never left us without hot water - not that we often needed it as the cold water was usually warm enough to comfortably shower under. The room was serviced once in a week. This was a long drawn out process. The evening before a note arrived warning of the impending event. Mid morning on the day a boy came to empty the rubbish and remove all towels and bedding. There then followed several uncomfortable hours where the bare mattress was oh so visible - a sight that any guest would surely be the better spared - before a woman came to replace the linen. It may be worthy of note that we left the sofa bed unfolded (as we had been fiddling with it) and as a result we yielded a whole extra set of bedding from the process. Also nothing was stolen so all in all the process could be deemed successful. There was no reason to believe that there was anything wrong with the hotel food. For some reason, back snacks aside, they made it very difficult. It was necessary to want to eat what they were serving that day at their choice of time and place. These were subject to late change. It may have been self catering for a reason as the local resturants did not inspire. More generally at Luna: The guests at the hotel seemed largely British. They were mostly comprised of married-style couples and families. While there were children, they did not reach the critical mass of annoyance that holiday makers fear. Reception was rarely manned by the same person twice but typically they were quite helpful and reasonably accurate. When we told them that the electricity had disappeared from our wall sockets they had apologetically fixed it within five minutes. The evening entertainment was nothing to get excited about. This is just what is required at the end of a hot day; a lone singer who generates only polite applause or a big screen DVD of a family film from a year or three ago, something of that ilk with no clammer for participation. The Internet access, on tightly locked down machines with no USB access, was a little intermittent and when working the four seats were often all taken. The shop under the building was larger and better stocked than expected and was cheap enough for the locals to use despite the rudeness of the till girls. Both pools were small, wet and closed at night. The wheelchair access throughout the building looked fine to my long ago trained eye but a family with a wheelchair user amongst them described it as "a nightmare". Keeping the room on until five on checkout day cost little more than a UK tenner. As to whether I would recommend the hotel to others; The main problem that we experienced during our visit was the Malta-wide extreme heat (41°c). This was no fault of the hotel where all was broadly fine. It was well located both for walking from and for driving from. If you must go to Malta then why not stay at the Luna.

Just back from a stay in Malta. Im in my 20's and went for a relaxing stay with 3 friends. The luna complex was clean and our room was cleaned once during the week with a complete change in bed linen and towels. There were 3 of us in the room and the camp bed was quiet comfortable. the A/C took a while to cool the room but why be cool on a sun holiday?! the staff at reception were ok nothing too friendly but the catering staff were wonderful really good to tell us where to go and what to see! we only ate in the hotel once and it was nice. There are lovely restaurants in the town of mellieha altho you would not want to walk it it is uphill on a winding road(we rented a car) and take note that some of the restaurants do not take credit cards, cash only. the conplex itself has too pool one in the ground floor and one on the roof. the roof one is supposed to be adults only but there were children in it all the time. the sandy beach is bout 3 min walk but renting the umbrella and loungers is expensive there. The lifs are small and only fit 4 people but its not a long journey in them so it didny bother us. overall I would stay there again the only thing is that it was a bit too quiet! oh and the legal drinking age is 16 so lots of young people in the bars!!

just back from Malta, we were a party of 4 adults staying at the luna apartments. Here are our views: Hotel: clean and tidy, staff at reception always friendly and helpful, Mario the manager helped change our rooms after explaining a problem we had with our original booking, very genuine man, he also showed us the brand new A/C rooms situated on the road side of the building they were up on 4/5th floor these were very nice and double glazed. the original studio apt was clean but small, it had a ceiling fan over the bed area, the rooms got quite hot and the fan only had 1 speed, it had general kitchen utensils, small oven/fridge. overlooking the pool it could get a bit noisy at night the entertainment stops at 12. after one night we moved to a 2 bed apt sea facing(long story nothing to do with luna apts) these were very spacious with mobile fans, balconys bit small but 2 people could sit there ok. there was some local houses inbetween our apt and sea but these did not spoil the view we had similar utensils. well worth the upgrade. Melliha bay: The Beach was surprisingly larger then I first thought, it does get very busy at weekends with the local familys joining you but there was always room for personal towels and umberellas (sunbeds 3.5ml p/day) it was clean and we had no sign of jelly fish. Eating Out: try the Blue Riviara just outside the front on your left, looks a bit "iffy" but the chef and his son make you very welcome and the food is superb (try the Bragioli) half way up the steep hill to the town centre is "The Half Way House" again superb food, if it's busy you need to have a relaxed eating habit as food is cooked fresh also on the other side of the town is "THE MILL" can not remember the maltese name buy the locals know it well. we was recomended "guiseppies" on the town main road personally it was over priced and although well served and presented the actual food taste was murdered by the chef. good chinese on left on the main street. You must visit Valletta, wonderful place we traveled by bus as car hire was a bit expensive, IT'S AN EXPERIENCE!! most trips cost 25/50cents but if your out for the day get a day pass at 1.50L As for Malta wonderful place and lovely people great relaxing holiday.

just got back from staying at the luna-a party of 4 adults and 7 kids. there was nothing for the kids apart from internet and a tiny games room but they were very happy to spend all day in the rooftop pool- our rooms faced the harbour but everywhere looks like a bit of a building site-the supermarket stocks everything you may need but shuts at 7pm apart from sunday when it shuts at 10 am. nice sandy beach about 5 mins walk away but very crowded on sundays. the staff at the luna were average apart from a few on reception and in the downstairs bar who were lovely. the rooms were big but with small balconies and they were uncomfy as there were only dining chairs to sit on. it was clean but the shower was quite dirty. we were plagued by flys that kept us awake but didnt see one cockroach just the odd lizard which was nice. food was very average so we ate out most of the time and the entertainment was either karioke or country singers. took a trip to the blue lagoon which was great but absolutely packed out and very rocky- very few shops around the luna but this didnt stop us overspending as we felt it was very expensive- all in all a good holiday in a quaint place so would definitley go back but probably wouldnt stay in these apartments

We have just come back from our holiday at the Luna Complex. When we first got there we where taken to the 2 bed apartment. These are not in the hotel, you have to go around the back and down the road. It aslo had no lift and we where on the 5th floor. We ask at reception if we could move to a one bedroomed and the manager did not have a problem with moving us. The only downfall was that there was no air-con in the rooms and the ceiling fans did absolutely nothing. When the temperature is in the 40's you need air-con. The staff are very helpful, but just a word of warning, if you are taking your own towels don't leave them hanging about, the maids have a thing about taking your towels to the laundry, we lost 2 of them. I would recommend this hotel but not in the middle of summer.

Just returned today from a 7 day stay in the Luna Complex at Meliaha Bay in Malta. I have stayed there before with all of my family. This time just with my Aunty.We are both middle aged women. We bought our holiday from Direct Holidays. It cost £215 including Meals in flight and transfers. The complex is idealy situated a couple of hundred yards from a glorious sandy beach, sunbeds and umbrellas can be hired quite cheaply and they are placed right up to the waters edge. Back to the complex! Studio Room consists of a long room with bathroom on your right as you enter, shower, loo and wash basin. Twin beds, with wardrobe on each side, round dining table, three chairs. dressing table. Sofa bed for third person. Balcony with chairs. Room contained fitted units containing every item needed for self catering. (we had no intention of cooking though) even a can opener. Sink unit, mini oven for grilling or toasting, and 4 gas rings. Fridge with ice box. It was perfect for our needs. There was entertainment in the lounge bar or outside by the pool as it got hotter. 2 swimming pools, one on the ground floor patio/sun deck and one on the roof of the new extention, both excellent and spotlessly clean. Everywhere is spotlessly clean. Not a hint of a spider or a cockroach. Room had no gaps in skirtings or holes in woodwork for anything to crawl through! restaurant on ground floor, with good choice of food, bar snacks, room service at no extra charge. 2 bars. Mini market down stairs to rear of building. I cant reccomend Luna highly enough. I am just wondering if its the best kept secret in Malta and am I putting myself at risk of finding it fully booked when I want to go again by spreading the good news?

Stayed at the luna complex in october 2005 at the end of the last few weeks the hotel is open. The hotel was ok, the room was clean and had most things you need in a self catering appartment. It was a little noise at times as it over looked the main road to the beach.But went quite late at night. The hotel food was not great but the staff are very friendly and helpful. This building used to be several hotels at one time so access to rooms means following the maze of corridors on the bottom floor were they are all joined. this hotel is between the village (which is a uphill trex) and the beach down the hill. only 10 mins walk to the village 5 mins to beach. Diving in malta is the best i have experianced . I used MELDIVES just along from the luna complex towards the beach. they dive mostly in the morning which free up the rest of the day to site see. dive's were very resonable cheap at approx £15 a dive some of which are boat dives. I did 4 dives with mel and it only cost me £65 english money. also got a tee shirt free. I would recommend hireing a car for your duration as there is'nt many much to see in the area and resturants local to the hotels are not all that good. overall i had a great hoilday but would only stay for 11 nights as 14 was too long without transport all the time.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, but I wish that we had known that the road was so busy. Our studio fronted onto the road and it was impossible to have the patio doors open day or night with so much traffic on the road. One of our neighbours said that she would be glad to get home as sleeping on the M25 could not be worse. The food was pretty average. We paid for half board and were only allowed a restricted menu for a la carte evening meal, so we ended up eating out quite a lot. Mellieha is not bad but overall I think it is expensive and will become even more so if the golf course is built between Golden Bay and Mellieha. We did however have a great holiday because we did hire a car to get us around the island.

We visited Mellieha Bay in August and had a wonderful time. We stayed at the Luna Holiday Complex which was excellent. We had a Superior Studio which was very nicely decorated and very spacious and quiet. The staff at the complex were very friendly and helpful. Everywhere was spotless. The restaurant food was pretty average. We went to the Fruit de Mer restaurant just next door. The food was excellent and so was the service. If you visit Bugibba, try the Argentinian Steak House on Priory Street - great steaks! If you fancy diving, visit "Meldives" down on the waterfront in Mellieha Bay. Very experienced and reasonably priced. The beach at Mellieha Bay was good, with shallow waters which are great for children. We did'nt go on any organised trips, but hired a car which was definately worth it. Overall, we had a brilliant holiday and will be going back again. We would highly recommend the Luna Holiday Complex and would stay there again.

We were suprised about the hotel. Thought it was a "so-so", but our apartment (we paid a bit extra to get a nice one) was big and clean. Very good service at the hotel. The only negative thing was that during the 2 weeks we were there, the pool wasn't cleaned once...
