Aug 2007, Mr M Williams

The rooms in the Luna were basic, but comfortable and were cleaned every other day, along with a change of towels and bed linen.
The reception area and pool area's were spotless and well looked after; and there were always sun-bed's available. (There were still some selfish people 'reserving' sun-bed's with towels, although one day I saw a stack of towels behind reception, so they must have been taken off).
The food was not that good, and after having two meals in the hotel we ate out for the rest of time. Try the Latino restaurant at the Tunny Net Complex, approx 100 metre's down the road, a meal for 4 was approx £30, or for a more up-market, and excellent meal visit the Bouquet Garni restaurant in Mellieha. This is a 15-20 minute walk up a fairly steep hill, but for the unfit/lazy you can catch a bus from near the hotel, into Mellieha, where a meal for 4 costs £60, but was worth the extra as a one-off.
The entertainment at the hotel was karaoke and singers singing 'YMCA' and 'Aga Do' etc, fine if that’s your thing. For a more relaxing night a visit to the 'lounge bar' at the Tunny Net complex sitting on wicker settee’s overlooking the bay was far more to our liking.
The beach at Mellieha bay was packed, especially at weekends, when the locals came to visit, but it was peak season and to be expected.
If you like, or wish try SCUBA diving. Aquaventure diving have an office at this hotel, but are based at the other side of the bay. Each day they will pick you up and drop you off and take you on some great dives. The set-up is good and they are well organized.
The air temperature was 32c during the day, and the water was 26c...great for diving.
Mellieha bay is not lively at night, so if its night life you are after, try somewhere else.
Malta has some very historic sites and is well worth a visit.

Very grand reception area which was let down by the room ,for 3 star accommodation was very poor we were given room on first floor, level with the busy road to the village after 5mins of constant traffic noise we asked to be moved.
Which I must admit was done but only to the 3rd floor on the road side but at least the road noise was not so bad! The room was very dark and the furnishings looked like they had been there since the 70's very old and falling to bits. The shower was hot but you couldn’t stay in there too long as the water would overflow out the door as the drain was blocked. There is no air con only a ceiling fan which you have to have on 24/7 as temps were 35c.
The communal areas were spotless and every day you would see the cleaners out in force mopping and cleaning.
Its a shame they didn’t put so much energy in sheet and towel changes as they weren’t changed at all for 6 days and that was only when I complained. The entertainment was pretty bad and was only on Mon Thurs and sat.
Didn’t get much noise from other guests though and it was a short walk to the beach but there aren’t many shops or bars near which meant a bus ride up the hill to the village where there was a bit more life and the only cash point for miles.
On the whole it was ok we went for a rest and a tan and got both but we wont be going back.

Aug 2006, Mrs H Ford

Was initially impressed with the grand hotel reception, reinforced by overhearing that the family we arrived with came back year after year. However when we arrived at our room everything changed.
The room was still being cleaned on arrival and although clean was ugly and not was expected after reading the brochure! The bed was home made and made creaking noises every time you breathed and the drains from the bathroom constantly wafted smells of sewage through the room (made worse when using any water).
Our room overlooked the pool area, which through the day was swarming with loud, misbehaved children, and by night you could enjoy very bad, loud entertainment (karaoke and local singers).
The beach o.k. but very small. We had to spend 10 days enjoying the very few restaurants and were pleased to be getting on the plane home.
Definitely not a resort or hotel to recommend. We would definitely never return.
