High quality hotel with super facilities, helpful staff and good food. Potential visitors should be aware that the hotel is a Euro75 ride from Faro Airport and most local restaurants are in either Lagos or Alves which are both about a 10 minute taxi ride from the hotel (taxis are in plentiful supply and cheap). My wife and I have holidayed for one week at Penina for the last two years, we love it, Hotel has a classy feel to it, food very good, buffet dinners in Sagres restaurant very good value, walk out the back exit and you are at the first tee on Championship Course, which is a challenge, but quite flat so should suit most golfers. Only slight negative is drinks are expensive, we found staff to be very efficient and very courtious and friendly. We stayed here for 7 days at the end of August with our 2 year old son. The facilities for our son were great - kids pool, covered playground, bouncy castle etc. The food was of a good standard, albeit quite expensive. There is a championship golf course and a 9 hole course which was informal and we could take our son round on the buggy. The professional encouraged him to play and even provided him with a putter!!! Very child friendly and welcoming staff. We're trying to book to go back in 2006.

Our fifth visit to Penina over a number of years. We booked thru' Le Meridien central reservations - which to my simple mind was as good as booking direct. On arriving at 10 am, and being advised that we would need to wait until lunch before a room would be available (standard policy but still irritating after a 3.30 am start!), we were told that the hotel had not been advised of our two specific requirements - firstly, no smoking and secondly, adjacent rooms. just back from le meridien,pennina,absolutely stunning golf course,a1 condition,service excellent,food and drinks expensive in hotel but alvor only 10 euros away,lovely village,loads of places to eat at reasonable prices,locals very friendly,quaint little streets, imagine to busy in height of summer but for january it was just the tonic after the madness of december,weather in seventys every day, well worth checking out pogues irish bar, be back some time but not soon enough!

Spent 2 weeks at the Penina having previous experience of the self catering apartments in this area. (Which have much better decor & facilities) Poor value for money, cleaning very noisy in the morning. Restaraunt meals overpriced. Far too may children around pool for a hotel with separate childrens club. No drink making facilities in room , hote drink provided by room service after 30 min wait & associated bill. On the plus side staff very user friendly.

Once again our two weeks at the Apartments were delightful; everything was impeccably presented, the pool was delightfully warm and clean. The restaurants offered us a splendid variety of delicious fish;In Lagos at Dom Sebastao, shellfish par excellance,at Simsa, in Portimao, in Alvor at the best little fish restaurant, Chefe Jaoh (on the right as one walks down the main street towards the road to the beach)> Family run with only about 20 covers, a selection fish is available (except Sunday) nightly. Stayed at this Hotel on 5th June 04 for 14 nights, Rooms very spacious, clean and well equipped, Staff are very friendly and nothing is a problem. Gold facilities sceond to none. very large swimming pool, very clean and well maintained, fantastic childrens club called The Penguin club, where chlidren have own facilities and swimming pool, so never screaming children whilst you are trying to relax.Alvor only a short taxi ride away aroung 10 Euros, lovely restaurants and bars, Lagos a 20 Euro taxi ride away fantastic restaurant called... more

Just spent a week at this hotel, great golf facilities, staff very helpful. Rooms very comfortable and clean. Food good in the hotel, but also nice to check out Alvor which is very close. Overall a very relaxing holiday and would have no problem returning to this hotel.

Enjoyed a relaxing break here. Very nice pool area which felt spacious and uncrowded even in height of summer holiday season. Lots and lots of sports options,. Good breakfasts and light lunches in several venues but evening options limited to a buffet [on good side of OK] and a very odd smarter restaurant that was in decor terms closely modelled on the British Berni inns of the 1970's.
