Bruges was only relatively small, we were looking for a youth hostel as we had a months travelling ahead of us. The bus to the centre of town was quite easy and after finding no youth hostels free we went on a search through Bruges, we eventually stumbled upon the Hotel Europa, this was situated just behind the main square on a cobbled back road overlooking a canal.
Inside we were treated by the proprietor as anyone else, not some shady student who couldn’t afford the hotel. We agreed on a price, and the person at the reception said he would mind our passports. He informed us about the breakfast arrangements and bar information.
Our room was just at the top of the stairs, very spacious, one single bed and one reasonably sized double. There was a large bathroom with a bath and shower, and lovely views over the canals and the spires of the many churches and towers in the background. We also had plenty of storage space big windows, big enough to sit in! Which we did one day admiring a storm. There was a colour television and coffee/tea making facilities.
The breakfast in the morning was continental of course, but well prepared, and looked like some car had gone into it. When we got to our room, it was like it was brand new, apart from our smelly socks hanging on the radiator. The cleaners had done a good job.
Overall I think this hotel was ideal, perfectly located, away from all the hustle and bustle, it seemed as if no tourist left the main square. The price was a meagre £20 perfect for this time of the year in a place as busy as this I would definitely stay here again was I to return to Bruges.
