Incredible view rooms
We were in Marseille for business and decided to stay at the Sofitel mainly for their incredibly comfortable beds. We were not disappointed. The view from our room was so incredible that we woke up early each morning to watch the sunrise. One morning it was so amazing that we took some photos which we will post as soon as we get them on the computer. The hotel staff was sometimes disorganized and the left hand didn't know what the right hand was doing, but we have found this to be the case with all Sofitel Hotels in general. The thing... more
brilliant location
I recently stayed for a few days at the Sofitel Vieux Port and had an excellent time. Prevous reviews read on this website about the hotel were spot on, and as recommended, I upgraded to a room with a harbour view which was fantastic, both by day and night. The room was expensive, but lavish, the staff were all very helpful and the breakfast from their rooftop restaurant with panoramic views over the port, superb! I was slightly disappointed with the size of pool and lack of sunloungers and found that it was also shared by the Novotel... more
Wonderful days at Sofitel Vieux Port in Marseille!
Have had a really nice stay for some days in Marseille. You should take the room to the harbor with a fantasic view to the Vieux-Porte. Really nice. The hotel looks outside not so stylish, but I like the interior. Old-fashioned, baroque and the rooms are really big and the sofitel bed is really great. You can the the breakfast at room, really nice and a good beginning of the day. When you want to go to the city-centre or to the next beach.. both only 15 minutes away from the hotel or when you are lazy take the swimming pool. The people are... more
French Connexxion
Spent 3 days at Sofitel Old Port Marseilles, France early April 2006. When you get to this hotel, make sure that you get a room overlooking the Old Port harbour. Do not be tempted to take a cheaper Courtyard view. These Old Port view rooms are without balcony (higher) or with balcony (lower) in the hotel. I would choose the without balcony. The view is superb across hundreds of moored yachts and powerboats. Gin palaces!!. You will be able to watch ships and boats and ferries arive and depart in constant flow. Not noisy, but never dull.... more
Good in ports ...
Although clean and comfortable, the vast majority of rooms are not the new design advertised prominently on the Sofitel website, only a few higher priced port-facing rooms have been re-jigged in the nautical theme, the rest are pure Second Empire. You think Josephine Beauharnais may come in and turn down the bed. Mind you, even Josephine would have to squeeze in the narrow space between the foot of the bed and the front of the TV cabinet, these are quite "petite" boudoirs. However the Sofitel bed is extremely comfortable, and the... more
Lovely but noisy
After four sleepless nights we were glad to be back home. The hotel is sumptuous, the staff are polite great location, secure undrground parking the list of positives goes on...however. We have never stayed in such a noisy hotel. Room 336 is perfectly located above the service entrance to the hotel and so every vehicle delivering goods or picking up rubbish at all times of the day and night can be heard along with the driver/hotel staff rapport. Directly above the room is the marble floored restaurant which serves breakfast lunch and dinner... more
Great Value
During my trip to France, I stayed in a 5 star hotel in Paris and a 4 star hotel, Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port in Marseille and I actually liked the Sofitel Marseille Vieux Port Hotel better. The lobby was spacious and inviting and the staff spoke english. The room had modern amenites and a beautiful spacious bathroom. They supplied bathrobes, slippers and toiletries. The sheets always seemed to smell good and there was a good selection of channels on television even though I only understood English. Room service was great and prompt.... more
