The Olympic Lagoon Resort is a well presented 4* hotel with a good location within walking distance of the beach on the outskirts of the resort. There is a variety of bars and restaurants close to the hotel and a wider selection is available within the resort centre itself. The hotel has a large freeform swimming pool surrounded by paved sun terraces with sun beds and parasols as well as some attractive palm trees providing shade. There is also a number of sports facilities available within the gardens including tennis courts and a gymnasium.

Bit wary before going after reading mixed reviews & couldnt understand why some thought hotel great & others found it terrible - to be honest thought that some people must just be very picky & finding fault for the sake of it, but after visiting I have to say that i agree with a lot of the negative points raised in previous reviews.

Hotel itself is ok but definately not worth its 4*plus rating even by Cypriot/Greek standards. Our initial bedroom was a family bedroom but you would struggle to swing a cat. Also room was not overly clean - looked fine on the surface of things but after my daughter dropped a toy on the floor and i lifted bedcover to retrieve it from under bed I found 3 cigarette ends just under bed. Decor could do with refreshing. We paid to upgrade rooms to junior suite - would definately recommend this if you are travelling with children as although the rooms were not massive they at least gave you a bit of space. Rooms cleaned daily and towels changed every second day - generally clean.

We were very disappointed in the pool area as we had booked this hotel after seeing the pictures in First Choice brouchure advertising the lovely sandy area at the lagoon pool. This appealled to us as our young daughter could play on the sandy area without us worrying that she would slip on the tiles around the pool. In reality however the pool area does not look like this picture as it must have been taken several years ago following the refurbishment. the beds are now on the concrete area and the grass has been allowed to grow over much of the sandy area resulting in the kids play area being reduced to a smaller sandy patch which is full of weeds/grass, cigarette ends, plastic bottle tops, etc. Trees have also been planted in the grassy area which means that sunbathing there is a nightmare as you constantly have to move to avoid shadows. these trees also make it very difficult to watch your children play at the play park without actually being by their side.

There are plenty of loungers around the pool area but they are all placed very closely together - luckily the hotel was not too busy so you could usually leave a bed empty between you and the next family but think it would be quite claustraphobic in the summer when busy.

Food for breakfast was ok - plenty to choose from whether you wanted cereal, cooked breakfast, breads, cakes, etc. We only ate in hotel on 1st night - food ok but nothing special and would have been very bored with it had we been half or full board.

Didnt use kids club but did find it annoying that the mini disco which my daughter had been looking forward to, was not always on at night despite being advertised. It all depended on what entertainers were on "duty" at the kids disco. Some nights the kids were just sta in front of tv watching dvd as it was claimed there were not enough kids for disco - it went ahead other nights with less kids ! Also it was very disorganised when it did go ahead. Lots of stopping & starting between dances/games & kids lost interest a bit.

Plenty of restuarants in local area so long as you dont mind a short walk. If you like to walk ouyt of your hotel and fall straight into bars & restuarants then not the place for you but if you dont mind short walk then ideal. If you leave hotel via back gate and turn right there are a couple of restuarants & tavernas - best one garden of eden. The bulk of the bars/restuarants are to the left. a 15-20 minute walk takes you into the heart of nissi bay with plenty bars & restuarants with lots of choice. There are several hotels, bars & restuarants along this walk. The great thing about these restuarants and bars are that they are very child-friendly. Most have children's play areas including bouncy castles, little tikes chutes, climbing frames, swings, see-saws, cars, bikes, etc - fab !!!

Ayia Napa is only about 20 min walk from these restuarants along a road which is lined with various bars, restuarants & shops. There is a great kids amusement park at the bottom end of Ayai Napa as you walk in - not huge but brilliant for kids and not expensive.

Some people have complained about the price of drink in the hotel - yes it is slightly more expensive than in bars/restuarants but not that much more expensive.

In summary, we found the resort great so long as you are not looking for english pubs & nightclubs. Perfect for families or those looking for a nice meal and drink. Plenty bars/restuarants to choose from. We really enjoyed Mangas, Garden of eden, Atlas(italian). The hotel itself was ok but wouldnt say that it was 4* plus standard, more 3* plus. The staff were friendly and helpful, the accommodation was relatively clean but could have been cleaner, the food was fine & plenty variety for beakfast. The grounds within the hotel could be better kept & the pool was not always too clean. I would return to this hotel again but not at the price that we paid for this holiday as feel that it was very overpriced for what we actually got.

I have just returned from a 2 week holiday to the Olympic Lagoon and also got married there. I was quite suprised to read some of the poor reviews on here, as myself and 20 other guests had a fab time!

The hotel staff could not do enough for us and any problems were sorted out straight away. When we arrived we were meant to have 2 single rooms for 2 of our guests but the hotel had overbooked. Instead they put the guests in the best room in the hotel and upgraded the rest of us to junior suites and bungalows!!

Now location - yes it is 8 - 10 euros to Ayia Napa in taxi (1.50 on bus!) but it does state this in the holiday brochures and there are plenty of resturants around the hotel if you do not want to pay this every night. The pool is lovely, only complaint was the snacks at the pool bar werent the best and yes pricey, but we all expected this.

My wedding day was perfect. Helene who works at the hotel and Sarah from Olympic Holidays took care of everything. We had the perfect location in the hotel and lovely food and reception afterwards and it cost a third of what it would have in the UK! Please if you are thinking of getting married here do it!!

Overall we all had a great time, Cyprus is pricey but was well worth it!!

After planning to go to Cyprus for some time we fell in love with pictures on the Internet of the pool and hotel. The pool certainly makes the hotel but after 24hrs there I was increasingly dissapointed and struggled to see how this was a 4 star rated hotel. I have always travelled with first choice and never had any issues, but I strongly recommend you read reviews to get a wider impression of the resort.

Anyway here is my opinion.... we booked bed and breakfast we thought there would be tea making facillities in the rooms but this was not the case, as we spotted kettles in rooms on our floor (in hotel not bungalows) I asked reception if it was possible to get one, I was told we had not paid enough money as these were only available for all inclusive guests (how on earth all inclusive need this is beyond me) the rest of the room was also dissapointing, very dated and cramped! be aware you will only get one card no matter how many guests, this is to ensure you don't keep air con on etc (top tip use an old club card or store card in slot and your room will keep beautifully cool)

The pool area is outstanding and plenty of quiet spots and plenty of beds and umbellas to go around (it is not cleaned that regularly and some people let there babies wee in it and washing sandy feet etc....ear infections are not uncommon)

And now the reason this resort should never be a 4*.... the food! This is poor at best and extremely over priced. An evening meal with water!!!! 50 euro!!! but that is not the worst its the temperature, nothing is warm never mind hot (except the toast at breakfast so dont be alarmed when you see people with 12 slices of toast and nothing else) the pool side bar is the worst where the food is refried and reheated! There is also little choice for kids and there is no alternative on the theme nights! I strongly reccomend you eat out- turn left at the rear of hotel towards Ayia Napa and there are some lovely Italian style restaurants at very reasonable prices, turn right and there are some brit style pubs serving decent food. Be prepared to haggle with taxi drivers before you get in also as prices vary from 3-10 euro into Ayia Napa!

Be prepared to spend a lot if your in the hotel! and if you're excited about a beach front hotel be warned you have to walk through another hotels grounds to get to it!!!!

THIS WAS A NICE HOTEL. WE STAYED IN A BUNGALOW WHICH WAS VERY CLEAN. ONLY PROBLEM WAS IT WAS 10 EUROS IN A TAXI TO THE MAIN PART OF AYIA NAPA. FOOD WAS OK BUT NOTHING SPECIAL.

LOTS OF WEDDINGS AT THIS HOTEL BUT I WOULD'NT LIKE TO HAVE MY SPECIAL DAY HERE.

GO TO OLYMPIC LAGOON IF LIKE US YOU WANT A NICE HOTEL FOR THE KIDS TO BE AMUSED AND SAFE.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone.

I have holidayed all over the world. The hotel has a four star rating which is overated { more like a two star }. Me and my family booked a family room- on arrival we were given a room which they concider a famiy room which is smaller than a standard uk garage. The room had sick on the floor which some-one had tried to clean and the smell was discusting.

We approched reception only to be told they had cleaned it and they were unable to exchange rooms as the hotel was full.

We payed for three adults and one child, the room contained two single beds and two camp beds lined down the room, it was impossible to fit 2 people in the bathroom at any one time.

The balcony's are dangerous for children and our views were onto the kitchen dustbins.

The rooms have mucky old carpets and all the fixtures are falling apart.

To eat drink at this hotel is very expensive and the hotel will try to relieve you of your euro's at any opportunity they can.

You are unable to eat produce at the pool or in your room purchased from outside, this is inplimented buy the security who on occasions patrols.

After three days and the ear infections from the pools had subsided we had our room exchanged to the ground floor.

The room had a double bed and was a foot ether side bigger,- unfortunetly it was occupied with ants. We had a two foot drop from patio with no railings to stop our child from falling and a unlit back road which made easy access for anyone to enter our patio.

The mini bars fail to lock which proved very expensive when your child helped himself to the miniture spirits or a £2 kit kat.

Be prepared to take a extra £400 for taxi's for two week period and a further £2000 for the families food and drink.

The entertainment is poor and this is a hotel i would avoid if you are a family.

I hope my review prevents some-one making the same mistake we made by visiting the Olympic Logoon Hotel.

P.s Cyprus is a fantastic place away from this location.

A very presentable hotel with a fantastic pool area. The pool itself was lovely, just take care of your ears.....two out of our party of 5 contracted an ear infection within 24 hours of arriving back in the UK. The pool service guys, Martin & Jacob were lovely and very helpful and spoke excellent English (puts us to shame). As the pool area was so lovely and it was so hot, we spent most of our time around the pool as there were plenty of sunbeds and parasols. We stayed in one of the superior bungalows with a pool view and it was perfect for us with great air conditioning....an absolute must. We were half board and the breakfast was absolutely fine...pretty standard for most holiday hotels. The evening buffet was not terribly child friendly and we felt it would have been a good idea to ensure that chips were on the menu every night for kids. It was also hit and miss as to whether there were "proper" sausages on or if they were frankfurter type. Having said that, overall it was fine, although they could really do with some ceiling fans in the pool side bar (when the evening buffet and entertainment is held) and the air conditioning could do with turning up a notch or two in the cafeteria/restaurant where breakfast is served.

The entertainment was fabulous. We really enjoyed the evening cabaret performances and couldn't believe how much we enjoyed cash prize bingo ("How much?"). Carlos, Gemma, Carla, Nicola, Selina, Georgie and Hayli worked really hard during the day and evening and we really appreciated their efforts.

Overall, we really enjoyed our holiday and found it to be very relaxing in the Olympic Lagoon Resort.

We have just come back from a fortnight at this hotel, including getting married there and we just wanted to say it is the best holiday we have ever had. The staff were fantastic and very friendly and the hotel itself was lovely. They couldnt do enough for us on our wedding day and we would recommend having your wedding there. The pool was fantastic, so much so we didn't bother with the beach. We hope to return one day in the future.

We have just come back from a week in Cyprus, weather was excellent, people were great - RESORT WAS well what can I say.... don’t expect luxury - and its definitely not a 4* rating. Rooms are tacky, dirty and extremely dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. We would NOT recommend food at this resort - even though it sounds financially tempting to opt for all-inclusive - I would not recommend it as the food quality is extremely POOR, eat at your own risk. The swimming pool is pleasant enough – very refreshing when you need to be cooled off - but not very clean, our son picked up a ear infection during our brief time out there - received EXCELLENT SERVICE from the doctor out there - they are brilliant - only had to wait 5mins to see him - unlike in the UK.

Beach is not too far – but it’s a bit weird having to walk through another resort in order to get to the beach. Nissi beach is a MUST – fantastic, warm waters, great music and beautiful surroundings and only 5mins by taxi/bus.

The resort is within a 5min bus/taxi ride to the lively town - great food choice there for every taste buds from fast food to a very plush Chinese meal - the choice is endless.

We have just returned from our Wedding/Holiday at this hotel. The hotel is FANTASTIC

although very expensive, example diet coke in a plastic cup from pool bar 2 euros 30.

Oue Wedding was amazing we had Aphrodite Weddings as our organizers who were great, we got married in the free gazebo to the right of veranda, all chairs had white covers all the area decorated beautifully.( the wedding garden is extra 350 euros and looks like its been made with paper mache) We had all our own music played during the ceremony. We had our reception at the hotel, on the veranda all made private just for us, once again all decorated beautifully, our meal was 5* service was 5* nothing was too much trouble, we had our own cds playing into the area, no one was allowed to walk within the area at all. there was 20 of us inc 5 kids.we wasnt made to feel rushed in any way everything was perfect. in the evening Carlos played our first song for us in the the entertainment area, it was also my daughters 12th birthday the whole place sung Happy Birthday to her and she was part of the Magic show producing doves and rabbits from paper. Our photogragher was arranged via Aphrodite Weddings and the photos are FANTASTIC, (no sunbathers in background at all) First class service.

The hotel couldnt of done anymore for us it was perfect.

Pools amazing, staff helpfull and very proffessional inc the general manager who made as feel as if we were the most important people in the place.

Location not great a 20 min walk to Nissi Bay where there are some fab resturants inc Valentinos and Gardens Inn. If you walk out the back of the hotel and turn right theres a supermarket, further on some restaurants not great though. Not sure why everyone raves about the Garden of Eden overpriced and kitchen and tiolets far from clean definatley give the one a wide berth.

Entertainment in the day is great, the premier team are fantastic inc Carlos, Jemma,Geogie, Nicola and Hayley. The evening is much of a much ness.

As far as we were concerned everything was great couldnt really fault the hotel apart from prices, be prepared to spend a least £120 a day if on B&B for family of 4.

just arrived back this week after getting married there.i would advise anyone getting married in this hotel to have the new wedding venue witch is situated at the back of the hotel,it costs 350 euros but is more private and is gorgeous,we got married there and would definately recommend it,the gazebo type thing that is free is right next to the pool and you are in full view of people sunbathing and this will be in your photographs.

i wouldnt recommend having your wedding meal here as there could be up to three brides walking around the hotel bar at the same time, which isnt very nice for the bride herself.we went to sunset beach which was absolutely gorgeous and you are the only bride there and everything is perfect.

we stayed here for two weeks, there was 12 of the wedding party and we were alinclusive, even though we found the food to be nice i didnt feel they catered for children in the food department.the icecreams were not part of the aliclusive deal throughout the day.my children are 6 and 7 and in all the other hotels we`ve stayed in in the past they could have snacks and icecream as part of the alinclusive deal.

we felt that every time we went the bar for a drink you were asking for a million pound as they did not like serving people who were alinclusive.we are not people who sit round the bar all day getting drunk either.the alinclusive end at eleven oclock aswell.

The hotel itself was immaculate and the maids came everday and changed your towels which was good.they worked very hard! the pool was the best thing about the hotel.it was gorgeous as were the hotel grounds itself.

The hotel has bars down the road but i dont know if it was earlier on in the season but they were very quiet.if you want nightlife you have to go into aiyanapa and get a cab, this can cost upto 20 euros there and back ,which all adds up at the end of your stay.if we went back we would only stay bed and breakfast and hire a car because the island itself is amazing.i would say they cater for the disabled cos there was two in our party and they lent a wheel chair free of charge, also access was easier enough.i would stay here again but wouldnt go aliclusive.

we loved this hotel, we had are wedding there on the 27th may in the New wedding Garden.

The kids club is the best for kids on a morning its 11 till 12.30 then 2 till 3.30 then on a night time 8 till 9 (but you have to stop with the kids on a night).

The food was nice but not the best. we had are tea on the first night in the hotel and for the 4 of us it was 73euros.

it takes about 1hour to walk in to ayia napa or 10 minutes in a taxi which is 8-10 euros.

We are going back next year. i would give it a 5*.

This is a pretty good place for a bog standard 4-star resort family holiday. A top spot for those with families with children of 'playing age', but maybe not for couples without children, and would not suit those of a younger disposition who wish to 'party'. To put it all in context we had to go in half term week when there are naturally kids about (e.g. the two we took).

Plusses:

1. Quiet compared with Ayia Napa's reputation: 4km outside the Ayia Napa tourist metropolis (but 8-9 euro easy cab ride in)

2. 15 mins walk to WaterWorld (which is fabulous)

3. Massive swimming pools with bridges, waterfalls and 'beach' in the huge one

4. Everything in the hotel within easy walking access

5. Pool and other games all day (if you want it) and 'entertainment' nightly

6. Landa Beach is good 5 mins walk away over a busy road; but once there fabulous golden sand and shallow crystal clear and safe water out to 300m offshore, brollies and beds, beach bars/cafes and watersports.

7. Internet cafe in hotel 6 euro for 1 hour.

8. Supermarket selling everything 30 metres out back of the hotel and open til 11pm

9. A few restauraunts within walking distance (out the back L and R)

10. Very friendly staff

Downsides:

1. Immediate location not wonderful. No sea view from anywhere in the hotel (this will dissapoint you if you are expecting one).

2. If you are in a block away from main hotel (where the family rooms tend to be) puschairs have to be manually hoiked upstairs and down (2-storey block).

3. Food is mainly good but not what you'd call excellent or outstanding. The variety is there (different theme every night) and you come away every night feeling you've had a meal that was somewhere between passable and good. But salad starters are a bit underwhelming and 'samey' and one or two theme nights (one was essentially a Sunday roast night) were a bit too aimed at the typical 'Brit Abroad' culinary tastes and not authentically foreign enough for us. Breakfast items were a bit on the lukewarm side at times and again very much aimed agained at Brits who expect sauasage, bacon, egg, beans and toast with a mug of tea wherever they go in the world (though other stuff was also available). This could all be fine if you are not that adventurous with food.

4. Standard rooms are pretty standard Euro 4 star.

5. We had a Junior Site that to be frank was a bit disappointing. Just an elongated standard room with space for two extra single beds and a flappy partition wall thingy. But not what you'd call spacious.

6. Our suite was in a block at the rear so nice and quite, facing open fields away from the 'cabaret shows' and any busy roads. But if you were facing the pool you might get quite noisy cabaret show music until 11pm (which might not be ideal with toddler aged kids). Similarly if you are in the main building, the rooms on the front face a busy dual carriage way (30m away) and I imagine (but don't know for def) that you would get some road noise in the daytime height of summer.

7. To be fair the entertainment was of patchy quality - not up there with some of the top hotels in Tenerife for example.

Would we go back? Yes. If it came up in a future internet holiday search would go back to it knowing it was somewhere between ok and pretty good. We would insist on a quiet room. It feels a like good solid high quality 4-star location, but not particularly outstanding in a destination where there are quite a few good hotels about the place and all of a smiliar look/feel. In other words we wouldn't single this one out as a 'must return to' location. But if you are not adventurous and prefer to stick with what you know then there is nothing really bad about the Olympic Lagoon and nothing that will definitely spoil your holiday, unless you are very choosy and very upmarket in your tastes.
