Colina village is fantastic
from offalyal
My husband, 16 year old daughter and I have just returned from a week long stay at Colina Village. We had a fantastic time - cannot fault anything about this complex. We had a two bedroom apartment which was clean, spacious and well equipped. The complex itself is set amongst large gardens with beautiful trees and flowers - very pretty. It is about 2.5 km from Carvoeiro village and a courtesy bus runs three times a day to the village and the beach. Also three times a week a bus runs from the apartments to praia da rocha and also portimao for five euro per person. The swimming pool is large and clean and there is also an indoor pool which we found to be completely empty most of the time. There is a very nice bar/snack bar which operates during the day. In the evening the main restaurant opens and the food is really top class. We found all the staff at this complex to be extremely helpful and friendly. There is a small mini market at the complex also. We would have loved to spend at least another week at colina village and would have no hesitation in returning again.
Colina village, best holiday in years
from AlibabaDublin
We absolutely enjoyed our 2 week holiday in Colina Village, it was so relaxing, yet good craic at the pool bar in the evening. The staff in the bar and restaurant were brilliant and joined in the fun. The apartments were huge and well equipped and also well cleaned everyday. Our children, 8 and 12 made loads of friends over the 2 weeks. The town was a bit of a walk away, but you can get a taxi for €5 or free shuttle bus during the day. We walked to the town a few of the evenings as it was nice to look at the villas etc.and got a taxi back. Overall we really had a great 2 weeks, I would have loved 3. Can't wait to go back!

Best standard of accommodation short haul
from MsManda
We stayed at Colina Village from August 18th to 30th, bringing our year old daughter with us, we were very inpressed with the standard of accommodation. It was definitely the best we have seen short haul. The apartments were very spacious and airy and well appointed. I note the previous review about the plates in the sitting room. To be honest the apartments could have been cleaner and although the cleaners came around 6 days a week there was a beard on everything. A extra lick of bleach wouldn't have gone a miss. There was an option for a safety deposit box that we took out at 15 euro a week plus 15 euro deposit and you could hire fans, airing racks for clothes, high chairs and irons from reception for a fee. The staff there were very nice and spoke good English. Taxi's are widely available ad you can book these at reception for 50 cents which confuses me as the taxi company have a free phone number. The complex itself is very secure and is managed by a security company. We had a upstairs apartment and it was quite noisy downstairs with a lot of banging and clanging about in the wee hours. There are also some private villas behind and the people who live there do like to party which isn't much fun when you are pregnant with a 1 yr old child. The pool was fine for the little one but the tiles kept coming off and one day there was glass in the pool. The pool is cleaned once a week but to be honest I think the whole poolside are was very grubby and could do with a power hose. The minimarket was very expensive( 1.50 euro for can of pepsi). The bar was a bit pricey too and during the day the staff weren't too friendly. There was music a couple of nights a week and there was a nice friendly atmosphere. The restaurant was a bit of a rip off. On our first night we ordered two meals and a side portion of vegetables for our tot.It was a spoonful of mashed potato and some green beans for the princely sum of 9 euro for the side portion alone. We never ate there again. All in all we had a good holiday but we ate outside the complex and bought our groceries in the local Intermarche on the road to Lagoa. If not it would have been a pricey holiday. We would definitely stay in Colina Village and we heard from our rep thast they are introducing portable air conditioning units next year which should come in handy. Also I think they need a laundry room to facilitate parent of tots like ourselves. Location wise its not very central but they do run a mini bus three times a day to the village. A great place for a reasonably quiet stay and wonderful for families.
Great Complex but not for everyone
from Uttridge
Just returned from our holiday at Colina Village. (Aug 21 - 28 through Expedia UK) Carvoeiro itself is a beautiful town with great bars and local shops. To begin with the apartments are easy to find once you get into carvoeiro ( Just follow the signs for Colina Village off the main road from Lagoa). Colina Village apartments are roughly 40 - 50 minutes away from Faro. Just get onto the A2/A22 heading towards Lagos, Portimao & Get off at J6. When we arrived at the hotel the staff seemed to be very helpful and spoke good english. We booked a two bedroomed apartment (11A if your interested) There was 2 Adults and 2 Children (17 & 15) in the two bedroomed apartment and they were plenty big enough to cater for our needs. As far as i can gather all the 2 bedroom places are on the first floor above 1 bedroom places. The apartment itself was very clean and fairly big, but there is some downsides. First of all Cutlery and Crockery. Just to let you know it would appear that you have no crockery when you arrive but it is for some reason stored in the living room in a small cupboard ( we had to go over to reception to ask where it was as it wasn't obvious). Secondly noise. I know this sounds really fussy but we were very fortunate to only spend two days with the family below but it was long enough. Below us there was a family of 5 toddlers and two young parents. At 7 am both mornings their kids were running around the apartment, slamming doors, shouting & screaming outdoors just being a real pain. You would of thought it would be alrite on the ground floor but the problem is there is no insulation inbetween the rooms. Thirdly, Lack of Air Con. It really was a pain as it was so hot when we were at Colina Village. The rooms got stuffy at night but it was worse in the day. You could hire a fan but it wouldn't really make much difference to be honest. The pool and facilities we good. Bar & Shop slightly expensive. It is alot cheaper to go stop at the Intermarche on the way into Carvoeiro as they sell absolutely everything. The pool at the complex is huge and it is one of the best pools I have been in. The indoor pool is good for swimming lengths but it can be annoying as kids gather in there. Carvoeiro town itself is beautiful. If you are wanting to eat out I would really recommend Restaurante Vimar. They do wonderful food and it isn't too expensive. We ate out here many times as we enjoyed it alot. There is some good english pubs in the town too if you are interested. Finally Transport. You can call a taxi from reception (50cents) which arrives literally within 2 minutes. It costs roughly 4,70 to get into the town centre and the taxi drivers are very helpful and friendly. On the way back I would be careful because a cue does form at the taxi rank and from experience you can be standing there for a long time. Well i hope this review was useful and kinda gives you an idea if Colina Village is for you and your family. I would highly recommend this hotel to families with maybe slightly younger children then mine as there wasn't really much for them to do at the resort reguarding meeting new people. Have a good holiday there although i ensure you will if you are going to Colina Village.
Pity about the sun loungers
from Failte1970
We ( 2 parents , boy 5 and girl 8) have just got back ( Aug.13th)from two weeks in Colina village. A nice surprise when entering the apartment, much larger than we expected. Lack of air con. was a major gripe as the two weeks were vey hot. We spent most of our holidays by the pool, and in fairness it is very well laid out. The small kids pool is perfect for infants to 4 year olds, while the larger pool is big enough for eveyone to enjoy. Like other reviewers it was a big pain to arrive poolside at 9.30am to find no-one around but most of the sun loungers covered in towels. I did complain to management but nothing was done. This is not a trivial problem if you intend to spend a lot of days by the pool. In saying that , once we had bagged our loungers we did really enjoy ourselves. Bar food and drink is not cheap and barmen seemed to expect a tip for everything, not nice. Carvoeiro is a very quiet , family oriented spot so if you have older teenagers they might get bored, be warned. To summarise, nice aparments, nice quiet location for families, but pity about the sun loungers.

We (Mum, Dad and 2 girls 16 & 13) arrived very late on our first night but it was a relief that food was still available. The apartments were very clean but it was a bit of a let down when we found out there was no air con. So at night we opened the windows to try and catch a bit of air but we couldn't win either way as we were then all badly bitten by mosquitoes, so take precautions before you go! The other pain was getting up early to reserve a sunbed on the odd day we spent by the pool. you're not supposed to but everyone else does so you have to! The restaurant at the resort was fabulous it was a bit pricey but worth every penny. The restaurant is not part of the resort so even if you are not staying at that resort it is still worth a visit. There's also a bar next to the poolside which also offers snacks and drinks which are reasonably priced. There are three pools at the resort. There is a fairly big one which is outside and next to it, which is also outside, there is a pool for smaller children and there is also a inside pool which is a reasonable size and ideal for getting out of the mid-day sun. A car is handy as the supermarket is too far to be able to carry much by hand and the pavements are almost non-existent. We were also able to see a lot of places; beaches, a fab sand sculpture exhibition and see the water parks and zoomarine. Both waterparks are worth a visit, but we found slide and splash cleaner and more enjoyable. Zoomarine is an excellent day out and you can 'swim' with dolphins. In busy periods you need to book before you go, you can do this on the website. It is expensive, but the look on our daughters face made it worth it. You can buy DVD and photos which adds to the cost, although they get a towel and flip flops to keep. Be aware that there are groups of 6 to a dolphin and each gets photo time etc. So this cuts down on the time. They call it 'interaction' rather than swimming with dolphins which is accurate, so don't expect free swimming with them but it was still a fabulous opportunity and I'm glad it was part of our holiday.
Excellent Value
from Alexandersherry
We have just returned from Colina Village Apartments having spent an idyllic two weeks, relaxing, swimming, eating and of course drinking. The apartments were exceptional, clean and very spacious - for two people - in a 1apartment.The kitchen could probably have been better equiped,ie wine glasses(we had to purchase our own),better selection of pots etc but on the whole OK. The village was kept exceptionally clean, the bar staff were VERY friendly and helpful, service was prompt. The restaurant was again very good and competitive with other eaterys in the vicinity although I thought the food was probably better in Colina Village, compared to where we dined in Carvoeiro. Pool was very clean and although no supervision relatively safe. Mini-Market was poorly stocked and a bit pricey although no different from all mini markets probably. All in all we had an exceptional holiday and we are certainly going to return to Colina Village hopefully sooner than later. A.Sherry,Dumfries,Scotland
Family holiday at the Colina Village
from 123PENDO
Portugal; The Colina Village,Carvoeiro,Aigarve.A great family holiday. June 2006 A Tripadvisor member Liverpool UK We have just returned from are family hols at the Colina Village..Just outside Carvoeiro,Taxi fare 5 euros includeing tip, this is an ideal complex for couples and famillies looking for a quieter more relaxing location but with easy access to beaches and the shops, bars and restaurants of Carvoeito(approximately 2 km, 20 minutes walk mod hills). However the village does run a free bus to Carvoeiro 3 times a day last one 5.30 pm.The restaurant on site is highly rated, but we found it did not have much choice for the Children (13 years and 11 years Boys)Friendly helpful staff, did charge for phoning a taxi. There is a large outdoor pool and a small pool for the very young children,no life guard. The poolside bar serves snacks and drinks all day.Accommodation- the apartments and houses are large spacious and well maintained. We had a Two bedroom villa on the top floor of a house, very steep stairs ,you would need a stair guard for children.Portugal satellite TV not like UK,very basic. Carvoeiro town-building work in the main square at the entrance to the beach, this beach is the only one that can be access with people with wheelchairs. The staff in the restaurants are kid friendly,a bit hilly, very little car parking space ,rec taxi,, You need a car to travel around,to get to the better beaches etc.Water parks good, but like everything ,they are not cheap, you can pay for your tickets at the office and get a discount.Small shop on site, but two larege stores as you drive in from Lagoa.A lot quiter an Aibufeira. Would come back to Colina Village a great Holiday.

I have just returned from Colina village and feel compelled to share my experience. We are a family of mum & dad and 5 kids, i paid just over £500 for a week's accomodation. When booking this place I was thinking oh oh £500 it's gonna be ----, how wrong i was it was clean, incredibly big and in my opinion worth every penny, taking account of how much i paid i really think finding better value would be near on impossible. My only regret was we didn't do half board i thought it was too much but we ended up eating out most evenings and that just got to expensive. Summary " big family ? go to this place you WILL NOT be disappointed . PS. encourage the barman at the pool bar to show you his Tom Cruise tricks with a bottle and he will forget to charge you for your drinks!! result> a bit sneaky but loads of free booze.
As a last minute budget choice for me, my mum and my 12 yr old son this turned out to be ideal- polite attentive staff to keep mum happy, lovely really big clean apartment with comfortable beds ( but atrocious pillows- buy one at the supermarket for 10 Euros!) for me and... more
