A really good holiday, New York is an alive, fun place to be. Where ever you are there are people but it makes it even more fun. Times Square is definitely a place to go, there are so many sights to see, plus lots of shops including a huge Toys'r'us. Plus just out of time square there is Macy's the largest department store in the world.
And then of course 5th avenue which is always worth a visit. There are sightseeing bus tours that travel all around Manhattan and you can get on and off at several points, it is definitely well worth the money and the best way to see everything. The subway is a good, cheap way of getting from each place with stops on most blocks.
The Empire State building of course is another excellent place to go, the queues are long as can be expected but the views once you get to the top are well worth the wait. Plus the tickets cost is not huge, only about $15, which is about £9 0r £10. Another main attraction again worth the wait in line is the boat trip to Liberty Island and then Ellis Island. Again not too costly the boat drops you off at Liberty Island and returns every thirty minutes so you can leave when you want the boat then goes onto Ellis Island where there is a similar thirty minute wait for the next boat but of course you do not have to get off. But being so close to the Statue of Liberty is a brilliant photo opportunity.
The hotel On the Ave. was excellent, very helpful staff, and the rooms were extremely comfortable, the holiday was a package deal so I am not sure how much the hotel was per night but I don’t think it was extortionate. Plus the hotel is just a few blocks away from a subway station of West 72nd street which takes you straight to Times Square. And the real bonus is the Manhattan Diner just across the road, for breakfast, lunch or dinner it is definitely the place to go for true New York food, and it is not at all expensive.
