ok but not luxury
we stayed here as a family of five (3 very young childre) we booked a superior villa number 14 and had a call to say they heared we were a young family and thought we would enjoy the beach villa no 4, we when we got there no 14 was great set back and quite for the kids so we asked to stay the whole trip, but were informed we had no choice as they had a rebooking and they were more important, which was the real reason we were moving they were not thinking of us at all. Well the beach villa was a nightmare. oposite the restaurant so noisy, the... more
Richard and Barbara's Great holiday!
We spent two wonderful weeks at Settlers' Beach during the first two weeks in February. The setting in lush tropical gardens beside a glorious carribean beach is stunning. Holetown is a short walk and has a great range of restaurants from the truly wonderful Tides to the basic but good Ragamuffins. Sunday night Karaoke and dancing with the locals in the streets of Holetown should not be missed. Pat and Hank are great hosts at the beach-side bistro within Settler's Beach itself. The food on offer - ranging from sandwiches to rack of lamb... more
Lovely, but not a luxury hotel
We recently returned from a stay at Settlers Beach with our two small children. This resort has a lot going for it. The key word here is “laid-back.” The gardens were beautiful, with lush vegetation and exotic flowers but without an overly manicured feel. The resort is composed of individual villas, each of which is quite private despite the fact that they are contiguous. We spent a great deal of time sunning ourselves on the chaise lounges in the garden right outside of our villa. The ambiance was extremely relaxed. If you are... more
Not worth the money !
just returned from a stay at Settlers Beach. Although the setting on the beach is very pleasant, it is tired, dated and overpriced. The 'villas' clearly haven't been updated since the early eighties and maintenance is shocking. We had 6 lightlbulbs not working when we arrived and the equipment in the kitchen was of a very poor quality. There was no air con in the downstairs rooms which was very unpleasant and when we arrived the air con in our bedrooms didnt work either - not great when travelling with young children. The beach bar... more
It's a wonderful place!!
My husband, one year old son and I have just returned from Settler's Beach and we can't praise it highly enough. From Reception (Hello Ingrid!!) through to Housekeeping (Hello Steven!!) the staff are really helpful and go out of their way to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. If you are thinking of staying here with young children we would advise you to try and book a one storey villa, the stairs are steep and tiled!! Villa number one is one storey and far enough from the road that you should not be too troubled by the buses... more
Good family place
A collection of single storey and 2 storey mostly 2 bedroom mini villas. Ideal for families. They are arranged in a U shape, with a pool at the centre and the sea and beach bar at the open end. The 'villas' are furnished with durable carribean furniture, much of which is painted white. Not really luxurious furnishings, but you don't notice after a few days. The 'villas' are getting a little worn and a few things here and there do not work, such as light bulbs etc. The bedrooms are of a reasonable size, and the en-suite bathrooms have nice... more
Great Place
My wife and I just got back from Barbados for our honeymoon. After reading all the reviews for the hotels on the island, we choose Settler’s Beach. We both agree that it was great! The staff was friendly and it is in a great location. There are plenty of restaurants and shopping within a short walking distance. If you choose to take the bus, it stops right outside the hotel. The hotel itself is great. The grounds are kept up very well. Service for the villa was daily and very good. We stayed in a two story villa which had a living room,... more
Loved Settler's Beach Hotel
Settler's Beach Hotel is probably one of the best kept accommodation secrets on Barbados' generally expensive West Coast. It is a clean, unpretentious hotel with 2bedrooms and one 1 bedroom unit. I stayed alone at the hotel and had the one bedroom. There is only one one-bedroom so book as soon as you are ready if that's what you want. The hotel is close to restaurants, shopping, gas station, everything. Be sure to see the African grey parrot, named Ketchup, in the hotel restaurant. Grounds are beautiful. The beach is small and shady. You can... more
One bedroom apartment is great value
My boyfriend and I chose Settlers Beach based on this site's reviews. Most people have reviewed the 2 bedroom villas, but they also have a 1 bedroom apartment for ~$105/night that seemed like too good of a bargain to pass up. We were kind of worried because we had read the reviews that it was close to the road and noisy. However, we were not bothered by the noise at all. During the day, there was some noise from the road but not overwhelming (and we didn't spend much time there during the day anyway). There is construction going on at the... more
Perfect place to get married!!!
I travelled out to Barbados with a large group of friends and we all stayed at Settlers Beach. The resort is amazing. As lots of the reviews have already said, the villas are huge and have everything that you could want. We had a 2 bedroom ground floor villa as we travelled with a 2 1/2 year old and an 18 month old. The villa had a beautiful atrium that you could sit out in and gave us an enclosed space for the kids to run around in. The purpose of our trip was to get married and the resort went out of their way to accomodate us.... more
