Just got back from a week in Barbados staying at the Sunswept Beach Hotel. We had a wonderful holiday! We found the Sunswept to be fairly basic, especially the bathroom, but it was clean and roomy with a well equipped little kitchen area. The maids came every day and... more

we stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks and enjoyed every moment. my husband and i had been to barbados severel times but this was the first time with the children. the pool area is quite small but ideal for young children, any way there is plenty to do than sitting around the pool all day.the staff and the locals were really friendly and paid alot of attention to the children.this hotel is in the heart of holetown and there is lots of different eating house's but if you want to try proper bajan food head over to the supermarket were they serve different dishes to takeaway like lamb stew rice&peas and plenty to choose from but go early because the locals get their dinner from there and it sells out quite quickly 11am-3pm. i would recomend this hotel and i would go back tomorrow.
Perfect Holiday
from Barkerhome
We are a family of 4 and stayed here previously 18 months ago. We had a great time on both occassions. Our children both consider these visits to be 2 of their best holidays ever (even over skiing in New England and Mickey Mouse in Florida!). It is true that the rooms are compact but they are cofortable and do have a reasonable kitchen area to prepare lunch or a snack, although anythimg else would take some juggling. However this Hotel is right in the centre of Holetown and only a few minutes walk from restaurants a supermarket and shops, including a very good Pizza place where you can sit on the verrandah or take - away. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and helpful and the swimming pool although small is very inviting and is never very busy - the kids loved it. Just past the small garden and pool is the spectacular beach, very calm and safe for all - great for snorkelling where a miriad of colourful fish can be seen. All kinds of water sports and boat trips leave from this beach, but these, like everything in Barbados, can be expensive. The restaurant and bar next door, which has a serving area into the hotel garden, called Cocomos is excellenl. I would heartily recommend this place .
Best Value on West Coast
from Xarla
This is probably the best value accommodation on the swanky west coast - we paid under £900 each for the Easter week. The Sunswept sits happily just 20 metres from the beach - very clean and soft pale gold sand and lovely warm sea. The swimming pool is tiny, which might be an issue for those with kids, as although the sea is calm it does shelve quite steeply. The presence of an informal Jet Ski centre right next to the hotel is also a bit irritating - the vendors spurt off into the sea on their noisy wave bikes every ten minutes whether they have customers or not, causing a hazard to swimmers as well as polluting the water. This still doesn't scare away the fish, strangely - there are several 'mini' coral reefs just a few feet off-shore inhabited by many colourful and inquisitive sea creatures, including rays and giant turquoise and purple parrot fish - great for snorkellers. Although the west coast of Barbados is actually massively developed, all the hotels are low rise and set just behind the first line of tropical vegetation, concealing their presence and creating a 'desert island' feel to the whole area. When the tide is low you can walk the entire coastline to Bridegtown if you have the energy! Shopping in Holetown's Super Saver Centre in the West Coast Mall was similar to a late night grocery store in London - loads of choice, all the favourites like Haagen Dazs, British confectionery, crisps and cereals - but hefty prices far in excess of Tescos - even for local brands. Holetown has a number of good restaurants including Indian and Chinese. Expect central London quality and also central London prices - we paid around £15 a bottle for the basic house wine. We went to Harrison's Caves - amazing formations that you view from a Dotto Train. The lush verdant Flower Forest in St Joseph is also recommended. The highlight of our trip, however, had to be the 150 foot dive in the Atlantis Submarine - well worth £55 each. It lasts around 50 minutes - we went on the first dive of the day at 9am and saw thousands of fish in close up flickering over the reef, a ship wreck and three giant turtles!
Fantastic Time
from A TripAdvisor Member
My family went to Barbados for the first time and we all had a really fantastic time. Didn't want to come back. Friendly people. Lovely food although things are expensive! Last of all, Sunswept proves to be a family friendly hotel and we will not hesitate to go back there again. Excellent view from the apartment too!
Lovely location
from A TripAdvisor Member
We went to Sunswept in July 2000, we loved its so much. Yes maybe the rooms could do with a lick of paint, but that goes for a lot of the hotels I have stayed in Barbados. This hotel is in a brilliant location, in the heart of Holetown. There are lots of take aways close, good value for money was the local supermarket takeaway at lunchtime just accross the road 12b$ (about £4.00 for lunch). The best thing I discovered on Sunday 26th June was that Virgin now have this hotel on their books. Their website could do bookings at the time as it was too new, so I just had to phone them up and book for February 2006! Brilliant Hotel and and Brilliant airline, can't wait to go back!

I have now returned from my second vacation at Sunswept. And i hope to return again. Everything that this small secluded hotel says it is...is true. The staff are so in touch with the holidaymaker, nothing is left to worry about. Great location for beach and chilling out.Great for the small family as well. The Cocomos next door is fab, so are all the local amenities, its a fab place for a relaxing time. Wishing you a happy stay.
A great 3 Weeks
from A TripAdvisor Member
Went to Barbados for our 4th time in March / April 2004 previous trips have been to play Cricket twice and on our honeymoon. We've seen Barbados change since our first trip in 1996 becoming more commercial but still the jewel of the Caribean. We stayed in Sunswept Beach and after the experiance of Grantley Adams Airport which were used to by now there was an initial 30 mins shock of the apartment. A lick of paint wouldnt go a miss and the kitchen was very basic so was the bathroom. After 30 mins looking at the size of the bed the brand new air conditioning and the situation of the place e.g out the patio doors 3 ft from the pool across from the pool lounging area then straight onto the beach - perfect. Also right next to cocomos and surfside for sport on tv nice meals and drinks. Supermarket and chattel village behind the hotel for shopping a bank next door. perfectly situated. Security guard ensures no one bothers you trying to sell their wares. Staff were very nice and a good laugh. Jolly roger anchors opposite the hotel every day, glass bottom boat right outside. If you go here forget the initial shock if you're used to European Hotels it's the start of a brilliant holiday I garuntee it. Plus if England are out there we're garunteed to win a test match!! (I'm Welsh but the team in 2004 had a few Welshmen playing) I reccomend this hotel and going back there and will go back again and again. Also reccomend the white jeep off road safari, the jolly rodger, a catamaran ride and a night out in st lawrence gap. Enjoy!!! p.s. ignore the bad spelling my degree's not in English it's in Civil Engineering.
Lucky Choice - location excellent
from A TripAdvisor Member
After much research my daughter and I located this hotel on the internet. We just hoped it would prove well situated as we both very much enjoy water sports, and we wanted to be centrally located for touring around. We were delighted. On one side of the hotel there is direct access to a lovely beach, from which you can walk up or down the west coast for miles, we even went by horseback for two hours from 7 a.m. The Folkestone Marine Reserve reef is walking distance, for excellent snorkelling, and jet skis, waterski-ing, catamarans, and glass bottom boats are all available just minutes away. On the other side of the hotel you have a really nice shopping mall with a large supermarket, and taxi rank, and just along the road there is an attractive chattel house shopping village, all on a main bus route. Just up the road there is First and Second Streets, with a good variety of bars and restaurants. The hotel is very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms could do with new plumbing and a bit more of a homely touch such as pictures on the walls, and the ground floor rooms, next to the small swimming pool and garden do lack privacy, but from upstairs rooms the view is superb, as is Cocomos restaurant next door. Sunsets are fantastic. We will definitely return next year for a longer stay. Snuba diving, a cross between scuba and snorkelling was very enjoyable, as was swimming with turtles, catamaran trips, rhino (rib) riding, jet ski-ing and chartering a boat for a whole day, and hiring a jeep after tiring of the crowded "reggae-blasting" buses.
"HAPPY HOLIDAYS"

My wife and i spent a wonderful three weeks at the "Sunswept" in September 2003, we found it ideal for our needs and wants! All the staff were brilliant. Nothing was too much trouble. Come September 2005 we will be paying them another visit, it will be nice to see them again.
Lovely!
from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at the hotel in July 2004 but have been there on 2 other occasions. The accommodation is basic but clean. The staff are friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The pool is small but ideal for kids and as the beach is steps away, older children can stay in the pool whilst the parents can stay on the beach! The surrounding area has everything you could need, supermarket, bank, doctors, restaurants, garage etc. It is on the exclusive west coast at prices which are very affordable. The atmosphere is friendly, the restaurant next door (cocomos) is brilliant. There is even a post office and a police station almost next door. I would not hesitate in going back and would highly reccomend it to those wanting to experience a fantastic relaxing value for money holiday in Barbados. For those of you after luxury it's probably not for you but hey that leaves vacancy for us sunswept lovers!

I have stayed at Sun Swept on several occasions and found it the perfect low budget retreat, close to all amenities, Bank, Supermarket, restaurants and bars. The beach comes and goes with the tide, and at some time of the year it is not as good as others. But this spoils... more
