Jun 2011, Not so jolly

The hotel is clean and safe, it is not fancy, just a clean place to rest your head at night. The hotel needs seriously updating. I am told this is a government run hotel, so that speaks for itself. The continental breakfast is a joke, no protein. The juice is not fresh or... more

Stayed at this hotel for my 40th Birthday. Thought the hotel was in a brilliant location straight on to Dove beach, with it white sands and bright blue sea, lovely. The hotel was more like a u.k 2 star , which was in need of a make over.Which apparently is going to happen. ... more

Overall we found this holiday to be good value for money and we were pleased with the hotel and the resort. On arrival at the airport, we found the reps to be pleasant and informative, but there were large queues whilst people were given their welcome packs and were... more

We stayed in a huge room with a huge bed, and a balcony facing the sea. The rooms are big and sunny, cleaned every day; air-con was working fine and the fridge in the room turns out to be very useful. The pool is not as huge as it may seem in the photos but it is perfect... more

We stayed here in early October. Fantastic location just opposite Dover beach which was quiet and very nice. A couple of guys here offering water sports and a small shop with snacks, drinks etc, watch out for guys with aloe vera, etc.. Can be persistent but once they see... more

Not a great value
You can do better for about the same money. I would particularly recommend looking at the multitude of hotels just to the west of Time Out (but still in St. Lawrence Gap). Time Out is on the fringes and there is always some riff-raff hanging around across the street. We were approached constantly and offered drugs and asked for money. Two blocks West of the hotel is much nicer. The room was sparse and uncomfortable... think New Jersey Roach Motel! At least the water was safe to drink and hot water was usually available. The only way... more
Adequate but truly only a 2-Star at best!
If you get a good deal on your room here (under $75 night)...it is adequate. However, this is definitely not over a 2-star rated property. The plumbing/drainage is terrible and we had ants in our room from day one. After asking, we were able to get a working TV but had several burned out light bulbs that were never replaced. The pool is very small and dirty. However, the location was pretty good. Not directly on the beach but good access to beaches and other towns. There are probably some worse properties out there but this one... more
Time Out at the Gap BGI - Disappointed.
Two nights in March 2005. Pleasant enough staff and allowing for laid back Caribbean attitude needs a stiff dose of a. management, and b. housekeeping - cleaning etc. generally scruffy. Apparent permanent shortage of towels - room and pool. Some good restaurants locally but in house catering v. average. Air con in rooms v. efficent. signed: Allan
Avoid Spring Break
My wife and I stayed last weekend at Time Out and found the staff and most of the fellow guests to be extremely friendly and courteous. This was our second visit to Barbados (first visit to St James) and found it cheaper and well located for shops, bars, the beach and the Airport. The room was fine with TV, fridge, A/C, toiletries and a kettle. There was a gentle breeze which helped to make things more comfortable. Be careful of the sun as it is stronger than it seems. Beach chairs were easy to rent and Watersports relativly inexpensive (30... more
Good place to stay
Just returned from beautiful barbados. We stayed at time out for one week. Our room didn't have a balcony but was quite nice with a view of the pool and a field where sporting activities took place. We booked through an auction and I would have to agree with reviewers who found regular rates to be too high. The only complaint we had about our room was the little ants who came out once in a while but that's to be expected in the tropics. We also experienced this at a west coast villa. The free continental breakfast included was ok. They did... more
please dont stay here
Just got back, where you stay can make our break your trip to Barbados. We didn't have a good time, a lot of which is down to the hotel. Room was ok, basic, we paid for a 'superior room', I don't think we got one. Hotel is run down and in bad need of work, pool area is a mess, everything is just beat up. The stay for the most part were awful, really unfriendly and did nothing to make your stay a pleasant one. The food as with all of the island is overpriced. The surrounding area is very run down also, needs a lot of work, poor... more
not worth the rates they quote
Just got back from Time out, booked the room through a travel auction website. The rooms are very basic..... when we checked in, the first room was moldy, so we looked at four different rooms until we found one that was acceptable. Very close to the beach which was great, and close to everything if you like to walk. The staff seems unhelpful, the reason that they seem miserable is that they basically hate the management, so they don't put on happy faces. Buy they do warm up to you after two days. The hotel needs... more
Jan 05 No Problems
I have read all the posts on this site, and have to agree with most of them, but I wouldn't slag this hotel off too much. The rooms are basic, with almost comical electrics, but I didn't go to Barbados to sit in the room. The air con worked fine (after we got the leak sorted out), and everything else operated ok (to a fashion). The hotel is classed as a 2*. No matter what you pay, it is advertised as a 2* and you should take this into account when booking. Bedding is changed twice a week, and towels daily. They will... more
Look out!
We stayed at the Rostrevor just up the street from this Hotel. Our choice was a lucky break as the Time Out was probably our second choice! - Phew - close one. Near the end of our stay we put a bit of effort and leg work into checking out other local hotels with a view to a return trip sometime in 05. We wandered into the Time out and first impressions were ok - but then the feeling of it being like a Caribbean Butlins started to emerge. The rooms were just ok - the Pool area was mmmm - ok the staff were ok - you know for the... more
Great base for a great holiday
Stayed for two weeks at Time Out over xmas 2004. We found the hotel good value for money cosidering its star rating. We had booked a larger room as our 16 year old daughter was coming with us and found that having two double beds and one single bed in the room still gave us plenty of space, although a balcony would have been nice. Overall the room was very clean and maid service nearly every day was ideal for us. We were given towels for the beach on request. Reception were very helpful and efficient, the bar and restaurant staff... more
