We rented a Studio Suite for a weeks...
8 / 10
Mar 2006, Miss CL Cooke

We rented a Studio Suite for a weeks stay in Benalmadena last summer. We'd originally chosen the Benal Beach Apartments because of it's close proximity to both the beach and Benalmadena centre.
I wasn't impressed with the sleeping arrangements, as when we arrived we realized that we'd booked a suite with no bedroom and had simply been provided with two fold out kids size sofa beds which could be pushed together to kind of resemble a double bed. We had gone on holiday as a couple to apartments which looked mature and definitely not child friendly, so to be treated like kids at bedtime was a bit much! The beds weren't comfortable at all, I found the nicest way to sleep was on the sofa itself rather than going to the trouble of unfolding the (complicated) bed.
The bathroom was modern, clean and free from any mildew. The shower was surprisingly powerful, it looked a bit old hat inside the gorgeous glass shower stall but it was very refreshing to stand under the shower on a cool setting before lunch.
The complex itself is well maintained with a lovely atmosphere, there were few children at the apartments when we stayed there and Benal Beach seems to attract young adult groups and couples rather than being a family complex. The pools are fantastic, and with well stocked and reasonably priced pool side bars it means you've never got to wander far to get a drink or an ice cream. I liked being able to eat my evening meal next to the pool as the evenings in Benalmadena are balmy and the breeze from both the water and the ocean was delicious. Also a fresh fruit breakfast next to the pool before taking an early morning dip will blow last nights cobwebs away and give you a good start to your day. There is some insignificant nightly entertainment during peak times of the year, but not the week when we stayed - the English girl who cleaned our apartment said it was mainly Butlins-type cabaret and terrible live music so I don't think I missed much!
Staff at Benal Beach are mainly Spanish (obviously) and most speak good English, with about 50% of staff members I dealt with being fluent in English. Members of staff were keen to help, polite and courteous. We had a problem with our toilet the day we arrived and it was fixed within the hour, also when our wardrobe door wouldn't close it was quickly repaired with a minimum of fuss to us. The girl who cleaned our rooms did a thorough job and arrived when she was expected, she was polite when we were in the apartment with her and when we weren't there she did her job and was trustworthy - including when I left a pretty expensive pair of earring on the bedside cabinet. Wages must be good here!
The food within the complex is diverse and first rate. Food is available throughout the day, pretty much on demand. If one food area isn't cooking burgers until 6pm you can walk a few hundred yards around the complex and find one that serves not only burgers, but chips at beans at 11am! All of these food areas serve alcohol and basic cocktails, and prices are extremely reasonable. One meal which sticks out as one of the best in the whole week was when we both ate a melon starter, steak with Mediterranean vegetables and a delicious exotic fruit bowl for dessert - all of this with a steady stream of drinks throughout the meal cost the equivalent of £26. Mind you, all meals I personally ate at the complex were delicious - with the possible exception of an awful grease laden plate of 'Full English Breakfast'...
We hired a car from Malaga airport and found the complex easily using directions from the airport, a fairly straight run along the Torremolinos / Fuengirola Road which took around 20 minutes. A nice little drive through city and allows you to sample a bit of the Spanish countryside along the way. Check in was a piece of cake, as we arrived at the complex we were advised to leave our bags at reception before parking the car. The luggage was then carried across to our suite after a very quick and efficient check in, followed by a very brief run through the rules of the site.
All in all, I found the Benal Beach Apartments really enhanced my holiday. The very minor gripes I've made in this review were far outweighed by the bonuses of staying here. The complex is central enough that in our hired car we had a good base to get out and explore, and getting back to the complex felt like coming home - only with more sangria!

Me and my family went to Benalmadena...

Feb 2006, Miss Loz Fallows

Me and my family went to Benalmadena last year and had an amazing holiday. it was the second time we had been back and we have already booked to go back again at the same time this year. The pool area is huuuuge and has loads of slides and a cool bar in the middle that you can swim up 2 in the middle of the pool.
There is a mixture of different nationalities at Benal beach and loads of teenagers to make friends with :D 24 hour square is top and the restaurants around the marina are well good. If any of my mates from holiday last year are reading this then hiya lol :D
I would definitely recommend Benal beach for families or couples. Don’t count too much on the evening entertainment though, its shocking.

I would not recommend these hotels at...

I would not recommend these hotels at all..
Firstly when myself and my partner arrived there was no one on reception...even though we arrived on a tour bus...
When a receptionist did arrive she didn’t speak a word of English...
Secondly our room was terrible...the fridge didn’t work...the bath leaked every time one had a shower...the mirrors were falling off the wall....a terrible smell in the bathroom also...the balcony was disgraceful...pigeon droppings everywhere which appeared to never have been cleaned..
Maids came once during a week stay and when they came didn’t change the bed linen and with no air conditioning this was obviously a must....especially in August!!!
However the pool area was brilliant....excellent for children complete with water slides and for the adults there was a bar in the middle of one of the pools..
Evening entertainment was awful...non existent even...
As for the resort don’t be fooled by 24hr square as it is not open 24hrs.....the restaurants were delicious on the promenade and the beach was fantastic...
We did not book independently and for the price that myself and my partner paid for a week stay in the Benal beach apartments it was definitely not worth it....
Will not be going back to these apartments!!!

Benal Beach is a lovely complex with...

Aug 2005, lil_chick

Benal Beach is a lovely complex with its amazing swimming pools, with many different slides, swim up bar and on side restaurant for those lunchtime snacks.
There are many blocks of apartments with 10 floors in each so you can imagine the amount of people around. The only thing is the lifts are quite slow and you could be standing for a while.
There is also a small supermarket for the necessary things, a gym, indoor swimming poor, hairdressers, telephones etc
The apartment we had was lovely but it was privately owned, the other apartments are basic but nice. In the studio there was a double bed, sofa bed, table and chairs, kitchen with all the essentials, bathroom and balcony with table and chairs. Very clean inside.
The area is lovely but can be hilly at times. Close to the beach and about 15 minute walk along the promenade to the marina, which is lovely. For all you clubbers the 24 hour square is here but it's quite hard. get a taxi there and it's 5 mins and not expensive at all.
Bonanza square is also good, very good for somewhere to eat. The Chinese is lovely!
I would really recommend these apartments to stay in!

Fantastic swimming pools and overall...

Aug 2005, Mrs J Stokes

Fantastic swimming pools and overall a very clean resort. The evening entertainment however is awful! But due to the great position of Benal Beach you don’t need to stay in the resort.
The lifts are a nightmare just 3 servicing about 2,000 people which obviously means at busy times you are waiting for ages. The pools really made it for the children and the swim up bar and the other bar outlets around the grounds make it great for adults too! Not the fastest of service from the bar/restaurant area but hey you're on holiday! Our apartment was basic but had everything we needed accept air conditioning!
If you're going in August I would suggest you make sure you ask for an apartment with it! Fantastic restaurants within easy reach - Saint Tropez and El Pampa are a must. And a beautiful park over the road is definitely worth a look!

A little disappointed with the apt as...

Feb 2005, Mr A R Wynne

A little disappointed with the apt as the indoor pool wasn’t open, but there were other Sunterra resorts to use close by.
Our holiday was spoiled by touts in the area who pounced on us with scratch cards which we fell for, resulting in us spending nearly a full day at a presentation and signing our Sunterra points over and buying into incentive leisure. We have tried to get out of this but up to now we haven’t managed to, although we are acting on some advice we have been given.
So although the resort we enjoyed being the first time in Spain. I would just warn anyone to be on their guard as these people are very clever. Don’t even stop, and be rude if you have to.

This hotel is beautiful. It is...
10 / 10
Aug 2004, Miss L J Hanson

This hotel is beautiful. It is situated opposite the beach and has everything you may need on site. It has a huge water park complex, fitness centre, sauna, arcade, restaurant, nightclub, internet suite, supermarket and a few other stores that vary i.e. hair salons.
The staff are ever so helpful and extremely polite.
The apartments are owned by various companies and also owned privately by people.
As there is 10 floors there is an elevator.
The apartments have kitchens, bathrooms, dining areas, satellite TV, DVD players, stereos and most have air conditioning.
The area is so nice. There are many English and Irish owned bars in the area as well as Spanish bars and restaurants. There are many markets that run around the area.
A short walk onto the marina and there are nightclubs and lots of shops that open till very late. There is also Benelmadena's Sea-Life centre which is amazing.
I definitely recommend this holiday destination.

The hotel was divine with everything...

Jul 2004, M Greenwood

The hotel was divine with everything you needed in or around the hotel a beautiful pool with slides and diving pool for your kids to play in. The restaurant over the road, la Quinta, had delicious food with nightly entertainment. The actual facilities included: pharmacy, gym, electrical goods shop, souvenir shop, newsagents and many others. The hotel is about five minutes away from the harbour, which has the most beautiful views of the sea. There was a delightful little ice cream parlour and the most beautiful cafes I have ever seen.
