Aug 2010, Conned!

We arrived at 9.30pm to be allocated a room that was more like a tiny courtesy room looking directly into a brick wall at the side of the hotel. We requested a move and had to wait until the next day and were allocated another much better room on the 7th floor with sea views... more

Food awful, rooms tiny and the place is run by the gestapo. Not very "English" friendly.

In my oppinion this hotel deserves to have at most 2 (if not 1) stars. Rooms are very small and dirty, service and receptionists are somewhat make you feel that you disturb them in their very important work ;) By the way, they don't have clean towels (!!) and the food is... more

Dont go to this hotel
To stay in the Reymar Hotel is like to be a homless in New York and to spend a night at a train station. I spend 6 nights with my family in this hotel in 2 rooms:. dearty small rooms. uneatable food. unreachable elavators. noizy hotel. aircondition workes only from 1500-0500 if at all. You must pay for a key for the safe(20E)??? everything is less than the minimum for a 3 stars hotel. we were very disapointend. we will never came back eaven it will be for free .
Basic and clean
Hotel was very cheap so didn't expect much, the hotel was clean and the cleaners cleaned and changed towels everyday except Sunday. Food was hit or miss the first week was shocking, Veg cold, not very much british food and even though I dont have children I did notice they didn't cater much for children i.e no Ice cream for dessert just yougurt and fruit. I got up for breaskfast one morning as it was mostly cakes, there was bread but no toaster - tea was very weak. However the second weeks evening meals were a little better more choice of meats and seemed to be warmer. Swimming pool was nice and clean, but you can only buy your drinks from the bar so this can become expensive on a hot day. A slush Puppy costing you 3 euro.- they also dont sell ice lollys or Ice cream at the hotel so you cant enjoy a lolly while relaxing. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. We used the car park as drove to spain, it is a very small car park at the back of the hotel and is more like a area of waste land, its not covered and was very hard to get a space. Entertaiment - to sum it up there are aprox 4 entertainers in malgrat and they rotate all the hotels so you see the same people most nights in different bars along the strip - Simon Grant, Marcel these are just the ones I can remeber. There were a few young schools at the hotel and the first few nights they were slightly noisey but that was only for 3 nights and it wasn't until early hours. however I really enjoyed my evenings in malgrat the shops are very good, there a little market stools everynight to browse. There was an amazing ice cream parlor down the street - and I just loved the ferrio rocha ice cream, they had every flavor under the sun...very yummy. Beach was very nice a few days the waves were really choppy - which me and my boyfriend liked as we had lots of fun being chucked around everywhere, but small children had to be careful. There was a lifegaurd working at all times. We also went to marine land whilst on holiday I absolutly loved it, so much fun Dolphins and seal shows were cool. Also the boomarang slide was wicked slightly scary but good. If you do go food and drinks can be pricey and you also need to pay 5 euro for a locker if you need one. Over all I found the hotel average its basic and caters for most of your needs but food and entertaiment wasn't the best. Review written by young couple - aged 23 & 26.
Wouldn't recommend it
Just come back from our stay at the Reymar Playa, definately would not go back. The food was awful - absolutely nothing for the kids (one of 9 and one of 2). It was ok if you liked salad and yogurt because that was on the menu everyday. The breakfast was worse didn't even bother getting up in the end. The rooms were ok, clean towels every day and if you were up early enough they tidied round. The resort is ok, beach was nice and plenty of room. It is quite expensive to eat out but check out Legends we had a couple of good meals there. We were on the 1st floor so there was quite a bit of noise from the entertainment (which left a lot to be desired!!) until about 11.30pm. Pool area was clean but no shade we took our own parasol around the pool to keep the kids shaded. Didn't know until last day that you could order snacks from the bar these tasted alot better that the so called food in the restaurant. If you get to go on the Taste of Catalan trip - well worth it, great day out. Overall resort ok, hotel not brilliant and would definately not go back.
Family Holiday
My family and i are just back from staying at remar playa. we booked the holiday last minute so did not pay full price. I am glad i didnt pay full price. the rooms are really basic with 3 single beds and a set of drawers and tv (can only operate via remote control to which they charge a 20 euro deposit) The food was crap dont be sucked in by this free up-grade. always buffet and always the same. the staff were ok. oh a tip dont buy drinks from the bar they are to dear just walk across the road to the shop and get them there. (although they dont like it the waiters may say something but just plead ignorance. the entertainment was a nightmare compared to the other hotels on the strip. oh there is a railway line to cross before you get to the semi shingle beach. we shall not return to the area again.
Better than expected.
My husband, me and our 11 year old have just returned from a 10 day stay in the Reymar Hotel, Malgrat de Mar and loved it. This was our first visit to Spain as a 'tester' and it certainly won;t be our last! We found the hotel very clean, I could smell the bleach in our room. Our room was comfortable with plenty of storage space for three of us. We were on the third floor situated over the bar/pool but we didn't get much noise - infact we liked to sit on the balconey at night listening to the music. The bar and dining area clean and comfortable and we loved the outdoor pool. Staff were pleasant and helpful. The food was geared towards the many German visitors but none of us had a problem with the food and enjoyed most meals (out of 9 nights we had one disappointing evening meal). Luckily we like to try different foods and don't want traditional english food when abroad! There was quite a rowdy group of German students and their tutors staying at the hotel but after a couple of days they calmed down. The rowdiness was no better or worse than any campsite I've been to in the past. My husband wasn't too keen on the 'blingy' shops but our daughter couldn't getr enough of them, but when had enough of shopping we had a visit to Marineland which was well-worth the money and the dolphin show was fantastic. We went on a boat trip and visited different areas - Tossa de Mar was our favourite. To finish off our visit we went on a medievil tournament and flamenco show...not to be missed. I may not return to the Reymar as I like to try different areas and hotels but as a first time visitor I was very impressed with the hotel and the area.
good value
we were a little worried about the reymar playa after reading other reviews, no need, we found everything was alright. we had a 3rd floor room and did not hear any noise from the hotels entertainment. the food was a little basic but plenty of choice and as many helpings from the buffet as you want, the hotel is central to the resort and we had a seaview, the only drawback would be in a rear room overlooking the carpark, and shrubland.the staff were very friendly and some of the reception staff are english, a value for money hotel, we would return no problem.
dont go
food really bad. just cater for the Germans although that's where the majority of guest were from, not all. uneatable most of the time. A party of school pupils arrived on our second day and ran riot round the hotel until a lot of guests complained. It was dealt with straight away though.
Reymar Playa ( You get what you pay for)
The resort of Malgrat hasn't changed in the past 20 years. The hotel Reymar Playa was clean and the hotel staff were very friendly. The food was buffet basic and caters to the european's who stay there, a large salad bar and hot soup were served every evening with a choice of pasta meat's and fish. Egg and bacon sandwiches, fish and chips can be purchased two blocks down from the English bars from 10am to 11.30pm if thats what you want to eat As a last minute break before the winter sets in I found the Hotel to be good value for the money we paid, but the resort of Malgrat was awful and reminded me of staying in Cleveley's when I was younger, with the train lines opposite the hotel and the tacky gift shops
Food don't bother
The staff were very friendly and always helpful. The enterainment was better than most hotel entertainment but not brilliant or varied. The waiters in the bar area were friendly helpful, polite and pleasant to the point that when they saw you in resort although they were off duty they spoke and said hello. Now for the downside THE FOOD, it was bland and mostly inedible. We met people who had been to the hotel in previous years and said the food had always been good but commented how disappointed they had been at the food presented this year. I would not advise against staying at the hotel but would suggest booking either room only or perhaps just B+B.
Food inedible
Stayed for two weeks half board .Requested and got pool/sea-view. Wonderful. You need to be on the 6 or 7th floor to avoid excessive noise from the music room. Entertainment varied and above average. Rooms cleaned and towels changed daily. Bedding once on a two week stay. Ideally situated for all resorts facilities. Reception staff English or English speaking. Pleasant value for money hotel. Food terrible. Very poor quality and badly cooked. Impossible to eat most of the meat. Most people ate out.
