ive just got back from my holiday 2 days ago and had a fantastic time. I was nervous about going to this hotel as the reviews had been rubbish! but if we believed all we read we would never step outside the house! This hotel was lovely, the staff very friendly and the rooms realy clean. My boyfriend and i will definatly go back! we had room only and paid to have a breakfast once, there was a fair amount of choice so you cant really complain. the evening entertainment was fun! the barmen brill overall had a fantastic holiday would'nt be able to say anything bad about this hotel.

Watch out for the 30 euro scam
3 / 10
Aug 2010, Conned!

We arrived at 9.30pm to be allocated a room that was more like a tiny courtesy room looking directly into a brick wall at the side of the hotel. We requested a move and had to wait until the next day and were allocated another much better room on the 7th floor with sea views but had to pay 30 euro extra. However, on talking to other British people we discovered that each of them had also been allocated this same room on arrival and had to pay 30 euro to move rooms!!!
When I approched the reception staff regarding this they said that we all must have booked "a promotion holiday???... and we should read the small print at the time of booking... utter nonsense!! I read everything I was given at the time of booking.
This looks like a money making scam to con the British - the hotel catered very much for other nationalities.
Food was very average and only warm, breakfast not worth getting up early for. Staff were pleasant enough but the actual resort was disappointing and very quiet for this time of year. The train journey and day spent in Barcelona was worthwhile. The open top tour bus allowed you see the vast city and we had no problems with pick pockets but were well warned beforehand.

Food awful, rooms tiny and the place is run by the gestapo. Not very "English" friendly.

After reading many reviews on this hotel I was a bit sceptical about going as most people had complained. But my week stay at this hotel was fantastic; the room was ideal, cleaned daily and towels changed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The pool area was clean and large enough to cater for the guests. The beach just a 2minute walk away was clean but the beach in Santa Susana is well worth a visit to. The nightlife was good, plenty of bars and a few clubs. The only bad points I have about the hotel was that the air con wasn’t the best as we went in the main weeks of August so it was very hot and there wasn’t many English people in the hotel or this area of spain in general – mainly French and Dutch! Apart from that the hotel was perfect.
Legends bar is a must! Best place to eat in Malgrat de Mar!! Friendly staff and cheap prices, nice English food!! Also a day trip to the Water Park in Lloret, theme park (portaventura) and Barcelona (€6 returnon the train) – I would recommend to anyone.

nice, clean hotel - food AWFUL!

we have just returned from the Reymar Playa and in general we had a nice cheap holiday in a very clean friendly hotel. our only negatives are horrible food and water stealing bar staff!
POOL
very nice but small and was directly in the sun for most of the day so the water was lovely (everywere else we have been the pool has been freezing!!).
pool itself was quite shallow at one end and very deep at the other - perfect for jumping in!
there is also an attached toddler pool.
as for sunloungers there arent many as space is restricted and you have to be down there quick with the towels by at least 9am - not something we have had to do before and didnt feel very "british" but you will get shafted and have nowhere to lie of you dont!
my only BIG complaint is they enforce a very strict no own drinks policy by the pool - this means you cant even bring in a bottle of water and have to buy there own little bottles at 1 euro for 200ml of water. as there was 4 to our family including 2 kids and a pregnant mum i thought this was disgusting - we bought beer and soft drinks poolside but were shouted at if we happened to be seen drinking our own water - in temps of about 37'C this was absolute extortion.
ROOM
lovely clean bright room, nice balcony, bathroom recently looked refurbished, un-obtrusive lovely maids with towels changed daily, free air-con that wasnt exactly arctic but was very much appreciated!
we paid £10 deposit for a TV remote just for some background noise whilst getting ready etc. just had CNN business news and eurosports in english but a spannish music channel played everything from Fleetwood Mac to Cascada.
RECEPTION/CHECK-INN/LOCATION
lovely helpful reception staff who spoke very good english. check in was fuss-free and if your a bit early you can leave your bags in a secure luggage room.
This hotel is in a perfect spot right across from the beach - our room was on the side and we could see the sea - lovely! shops and bars very close but not in your face. cheap reliable rail service was only a 10 minute walk away in old town Malgrat.
ENTERTAINMENT
we didnt hang around most nights as the drinks were double the price of british bars around the corner but we did stay for the obligituary parrot show which wasnt in english (there werent many of us in there!) but was greatly enjoyed by my family. we always heard lots of laughter as we passed the outside area but none of the entertainment was in english the whole week we were there. didnt bother us in the slightest as we just went to cheaper bars round the corner.
bars to recommend are Legends - great food, good prices and very friendly staff. also Eureka bar which is a little further up than legends across the road. here they had quiz nights, karaoke, bingo and for some bizarre reason every tuesday is Christmas Day complete with Tree and Santa! very entertaining staff and seemed popular with both tourists and locals.
FOOD
The breakfast mainly consisted of dry breads, croissants and small spicy sausages. sometimes very streaky par boiled bacon, mashed together fried eggs. none of it hot or appetising. the fresh coffee was fantastic but the fresh orange was undiluted cordial - yuck. oh and if you dont want to que till nearly outside the hotel to get in for brekkers then get down before 8.30. - HUGE ques after this time.
mealtimes were from 1pm till 9om and was horrible - dont want to be negative because we didnt pay thousands but after a couple of days you get really fed up of just wanted to fill your belly you want a nice meal - not here though!!
BEACH/WEATHER
HOT HOT HOT!! think we got lucky as it was between 32-37'C everyday!
the beach isnt as good as the resort - very shingly and sharp on the soles of your feet, i really struggled to walk on it and we all had scratched feet.
the sea is also not ideal for children under about 9 as it shelves very steeply as soon as you walk in, the angle also proves to be a struggle if you trying to get out.
loungers are pretty much standard at 4 euros each.
Overall i would recommend this hotel in everyway but food - cant stress how much we hated walking into that dining room but we hadnt budgted for eating out every night and your euros dont go far out there!

We have just returned from 14 days at this hotel and it was lovely, rooms were cleaned everyday, new towels daily and bedding 3 times a week.
We were a little worried when we read the reviews but I would say you can't please everyone, the staff were really friendly and the receptionist Marion is a lovely lady, always ready to go that extra mile for the guests.
Our only grumble was that the food was not very hot and not so varied but unless you are extremely picky there is always something to enjoy and plenty of fresh fruit.
The bar staff are really funny and go out of their way to please, evening entertainment not so good but hey its fun.
All in all a great relaxing holiday would go again and recommend to all.

I stayed here for one week. It was very noisy with a sound of a generator or such like, which was more audible during the night.
The cleaners always walked in, and the lock from the inside of the door did not work.
The hotel and room was very clean and towels changed every day.
The food was atrocious, cold dried up and crisps served as part of a main meal, there was plenty of salad stuff but what I could not understand, was why, there was no meat etc to go with it, other than meat in gravy!!
Having sampled excelent food at another hotel where some of my family were staying (this hotel was privately run) I came to the conclusion that the food at the Reymar was discusting and probably most of it was not fit for a dog.

In my oppinion this hotel deserves to...
4 / 10
Aug 2008, Mr M Nowak

In my oppinion this hotel deserves to have at most 2 (if not 1) stars. Rooms are very small and dirty, service and receptionists are somewhat make you feel that you disturb them in their very important work ;) By the way, they don't have clean towels (!!) and the food is the worst I have ever eaten in a hotel (!!!). The only two things nice about this hotel is that the view from the seventh floor (beach side) is magnificent and that they are organising nice performances (brazil show, some musicians, etc) every evening. Though, there is one bad side of this: hearing Simon Grant ("Specially from Englang! Only tonight!") every two days isn't the best thing I could imagine...
Oh, one more thing - staff know mostly only Spanish language, so it's quite hard to meet someone, with whom you can communicate in English (which is the commonly used language in most of European countries...).
All in all I strongy advice you NOT TO GO to this hotel!
