As always, I enjoyed staying at the Holiday Inn St. Germain de Pres. I travelled on Eurostar - punctual, easy, from Waterloo to Paris Gare du Nord. The Hotel is only 50m away from the Metro Stop and it takes about 15 minutes from Gare du Nord to St. Placide (metro stop).
The rooms, while small are meticulously clean, the staff is friendly and helpful and the breakfast (took it on one day), has a good selection and the staff is courteous and well schooled.
The area - St. Germain de Pres is lovely, mostly old buildings, lots of galleries and shops to browse. Near by is the department store Bon Marche, which has one of the best food departments in Paris - always something to pick up and take back with me to London. Also, two metro stops away, are Flamant (interiors) and some lovely shops with nice things for interior decorating - always a place to buy either birthday or Christmas presents.
On the sightseeing side of things, the church of St. Germain de Pres as well as the Ile de la Cite, the Musee D’Orsay are within walking distance - about 30 minutes through lovely streets.
This part of Paris and the hotel itself are always the place for me to enjoy this wonderful city from.
