Just returned from 2 weeks with Eurocamp in a tent. This is a big site with a mixture of pitches from tents, caravans to touring pitches. The ground has little or no grass and when we arrived it had rained for a few days and the water in places ran off the bear earth like a... more

Stayed at the site at the end of August 2010 in our tent. Have never camped for longer than 2 nights before and was frankly dreading the whole experience. Arrived lateish on changeover Saturday, but were still dealt with and at our pitch within 20 mins of arrival. The... more

Stayed June 2009 with my son (4) and hubby.  Enjoyed the park's facilities - agree that the bar area is rather rowdy as the family entertainment tries to cater for adults, teenagers and kiddies alike. Pool complex was great - really clean albeit not too many loungers -... more

We camped here with our 2 children. Not many spaces for tents and were crammed in near the toilet block and restaurant with no other pitch available to us. On the 1st night we were woken at 1.30am by the restaurant staff sitting outside laughing and talking loudly, they... more

This a great site if you''re not in a keycamp mobile. The site has great facilities, kids clubs, etc. but the Keycamp mobile we stayed in was dirty, with broken fittings and juvenile staff who hadn't a clue. When I emailed a compliant to the company I didn't even receive a... more

This is the third time we have gone with Thomson Al Fresco and this is the best site we have stopped at. The children absolutely loved it and did not want to come home. The only downside was that the Thomson mobile home was on its third season and there were some stains... more

they say there's horses for courses - this is the best way I can sum up our recent week at the Grande Metairie I suppose. If you want a mobile home Butlins style holiday near the beach then I can understand the many positive reviews and Top 10 site awards (FrenchLife) which... more

I wasn't really keen on the idea of spending 10 nights in a mobile home, but with 3 young children, we said we'd give it a go............. It was great, we booked directly with Le Grande Meterie, the staff were terrific, facilities on the camp site excellent. It was very... more

This is the second time we have visited this site, the first being in 2001, and it was as good as we remembered. We went with 2 children aged 6 and 10 who loved the experience. The site is very clean and spacious with a fantastic pool complex, the restaurant is good and not... more

We had a wonderful time and have booked again for 2008. We use the overnight crossing of Portsmouth to St malo. It is a bit pricy because you have to take a cabin, but we come from the north of England so prefer to have the day before to travel in. PLUS overnight takes the... more

A grand stay at La Grande Metairie
Our first experience of a Eurocamp style holiday, and we were not disappointed. The site was easy to get to, and booking in was no problem. A few forms to fill in and then your car pass is given to you as are directions to your courier. Reception staff spoke good english. Arrived early (again Caravans not available until 3pm) - were told it was ready, and given the key. Linen was still outside in a bag and the standard of cleanliness was not as expected. However, all utensils and equipment needed to self cater was available. The Park itself is well presented, very clean and easy to get around. Cannot find fault with the site whatsoever. Entertainment provided on-site by the parc animateur and eurocamp, so lots for kids to do. Disco's in the ampitheatre at the back of the bar. The pool was very clean and the waterslides provided hours of fun to our children (10, 8 and 2), pools well supervised by staff. Lovely animal petting area, and pony rides available. Keep fit in the mornings around the pool area for the more energetic of us. Play area with climbing frames slides and see-saw, roundabouts situated in sandy area - so no worries about bumps and cuts as very soft landings. Volleyball area and tennis courts available - bike hire also available. Also an area for swinging through the trees with zip wires and newly added tree houses - think you can pay to stay in one for 1 night not sure, you'd have to check - looks good but for the price the same at foret d'adrenaline is a better option, for slightly more. on-site facilities include a shop (reasonably priced), launderette, restaurant and take-away (mainly pizza and chips) Pool bar, and main bar and also boutique (selling souveniers newspapers etc). Shower facilities (for those in tents) again very clean and well presented. The site is directly opposite some of the standing stones the area is famed for - and more of these are a short walk away. Although after visiting the area you will have absorbed enough about standing stones to last a lifetime - very interesting but a bit much for our youngest child who was quickly bored, although the stones themselves cover some beautiful areas to walk - sturdy shoes/boots required and plenty to drink, as it gets very warm. The beaches in Carnac beautiful and very clean, plenty of shops and supermarkets nearby to get supplies. Must do's in the area - L'igloo, ice cream parlour in Carnac - an amazing selection of flavours the usual favourites to the weird and wonderful (curry flavour for the more adventurous). Foret D'adrenaline - not very easy to find, but well worth it. Zip wires through the trees in a forest - great day out We enjoyed the stay so much we booked this years as soon as we got home!
