Domaine de Kerlann Holiday Park Reviews
" 2 Bedroom self catering with terrace... "
Submitted By: Mrs R WareingWe found the accommoadtion as described very clean and tidy inside but a tad small, outside plenty of space. The overall apperance of the site is worn and need of a make over, garden areas need attention and was not impressed to find dog poo on the play parks.
on site supermarket: Ideal for the bread in the morning but anything eles fresh forget it unless you are use to eating carrots that bend without snapping. They do sell engish magazines so you don't to pack loads, also in reception there is a box where you can pickup or leave books or magazines.
The rental areas: Pitch and Putt, Tennis courts and bouls where run down and where they had attempted to make repairs bits of brick and rocks had been used to hold things down or together not proplerly repaired.
The entertainment was good but it was so loud you could here it all over the site when you where sitting out on the patio.
The indoor swimmng pool closed at 6.30 a bit to early if you had been out all day and wanted to finish the day off with a swim.
A bit sad to see the circus amimals tied up at the entrance between the show homes.
For the overall cost for a 4 star rating I did not find it value for money.

" We had a 10 day holiday here this... "
Submitted By: Miss A SmithThe site itself was very safe and the older kids were able to go around by themselves to the play parks or up to the shop. The pool is great, if a bit chilly to start with and the indoor pool is very useful - we went every day. There was loads of room outside the caravan for the kids to play with the friends they made from the nearby caravans.
The surrounding area and beaches were great, as was Quimper for a days visit.
Re some of the other comments in other reviews - when we were there the entertainment ended at 11 and then moved inside and we didn't hear it. The fact that the small outdoor pool was closed didn't bother my little one a bit - he went inside and was quite happy. There were a lot of wasps on the entertainment area - but if you ignore them they ignore you! The shop was fine (bread didn't sell out) but I agree the restaurant wasn't great.
We would recommend it to others.

" We have just returned from a 10 day... "
Submitted By: Mrs J O''KaneThe facilities for kids seemed good. Our older boys went along to the Pirates Club a few times and really enjoyed themselves. Our younger two boys (aged 3 and 1) were able to attend the Bubbles Club which was basically a playroom supervised by one member of the entertainments staff. Parents had to stay and play with their children but to be honest it wasn't particularly exciting - no sign of the promised "painting and making things" acitivities on the website. The toys were pretty old and tatty but it made a change from the inside of the caravan on the few wet days. Other facilities included a superb swimming complex, which was busy but very, very well supervised by lifeguards. Our boys prefered the inside pools and slide but loved the water play area on warmer days. To be fair , there were lots of sun lougers available for those lucky enough to have children who could look after themselves and the outside pools looked really clean but a bit cold for me - brrrr! There was a small park area, a football pitch in the middle of a track which our kids loved to ride around on their bikes. There was the chance to play boules (if you could stand the withering looks from the French who didn't like having the kids making too much noise whilst they enjoyed their game!). The park operates a ticket/ voucher system for the activities (bouncy castles, crazy golf, Gladiators style games and I think, the tennis!) the vouchers have to be bought at the Reception which is a bit of a hike if you forget.
We didn't bother with the restuarant as it was a bit pricey and went right off the take away when we saw all of the meat products were cooked beforehand and left in a cabinet (not a cold cabinet) and reheated in the microwave. The whole area seemed to be suffereing from a wasp invasion (take lots of insect repellent!!!) whilst we were there and they were literally crawling over the food which really turned our stomachs! The French didn't seem to bat an eyelid though.
The onsite shop was handy for the odd thing or for bread in the mornings (set your alarms though as it went really quickly- she opened at 8am!). We found lots of supermarkets nearby in Nevez, on the road to Concarneau and on the road to Pont Aven that had a good choice and was better value. If you like your fresh milk be disappointed! We managed to find what we took as fresh milk (fraise demi-creme) in chiller cabinets at the Intermarche but it didn't taste quite like our British fresh milk but the kids were happy to drink it (andwe were in France after all!). I'm a veggie and wasn't able to find much veggie fayre in the supermarkets. Loads of lovely fresh veg available though (but the grapes were vile - prob save the best for wine!!)
We visited Pont Aven (lots of times), Concarneau and lots of the beaches (Rospico being the best). Pont Aven is so beautiful - we prefered it after the crowds had left - make sure you wanderdown the little alleyways - we discovered magical bridges and waterfalls! The best place for families to eat was the Moulin du Poulguin (it has a water wheel outside) Lots of choice of food (kids menu), a menu in English and fast service. Itwas always packed in the evenings so it might be worth popping in a little earlier and making a reservation. The staff were very tolerant of our pigeon French and were happy to speak English when things got tough!
Check out the festivalsas well, wewent to Fest Noz which was held one evening, with lots of local musicians and nosh (great if you like moules and frites and crepes!!) and another a little further away (can't remember the name of the place now!!).
Opening hours on the site (shop, activities etc) are a little odd and reflect the opening times of shops locally - generally shutting after lunch and opening at 3 - 4pm. Oh, and make sure you're equipped with provisions for Sundays (and on Feast Days) as the shops were closed all day.
We had a good holiday on the whole at Domain de Kerlann - I see that many people gush about it but it wasn't all roses and there were some negatives (entertainment, circus' parading distressed lions in cages around the site, wasps (can't be helped, I supposed), limited stuff for younger kids to do, poor onsite catering) but - hey - a holiday is what you make of it and there is more to Domain de Kerlann than the park!
PS Did you know you can pay for your holiday via Tesco vouchers?

" This was our third visit to this site... "
Submitted By: Mrs N LenonIf you decide to go here outside of the main summer holidays then expect it to be fairly quiet and low key. The kids clubs still run and the entertainment is still on most nights. It was actually quite nice to go in June as previously we have been in August and the site does tend to be nosier and more lively at that time of year.
The only gripe was with the weather. It rained nearly every day the week that we were there and our only saving grace was the indoor pool and the kids club.
Overall an excellent site, very clean and well kept. We hope to return again next year.

" Having just returned from a fabulous... "
Submitted By: Mrs J FieldThe site is just amazing and very well laid out. The majority of the pitches are sectioned off with hedging and trees and are all set out in avenues. Each evening on a walk we seemed to discover a new part of the site.
The pool complex is brilliant - perhaps it could be open a little longer than 6pm but the small outdoor pool and the splash zone was a big hit with my kids.
Entertainment was A1. The variety of shows was great and enjoyed by all the family and the Tiger club and T-Co clubs were spot on for my older children.
My only concern was the varying standard of caravans. We had an excellence (top of the range) with terrace which was very new and modern but friends who also had an excellence had one which was a lot older and shabbier - perhaps it’s just pot luck when you arrive.
The children cried their eyes out on the last night and we have decided to return to the site next year as it just seemed to accommodate everyone’s needs from ages 2-38!!
A really great site and now the next 50 weeks until we return will seem like an eternity!

Submitted By: Ms T O'LearyThe park itself is clean, tidy, shady, organised. The staff are helpful and friendly, they went out of their way to be nice. If we needed anything they helped straight away.
The kids clubs (paws and tiger) are well organised and great fun. The beach is only 15 mins away, lovely area, plenty towns to explore, fantastic zoo only 45 mins away - great for a day out.
All in all this holiday was great - it did exactly what it said on the tin!

" Domain de Kerlann is a lovely site... "
Submitted By: Miss AI have been going to a privately owned caravan for many years now (about 10 times in total) firstly with my parents at a young age and still continue to go now with friends at 21, and I am never disappointed.
I would recommend going to see local sites though rather than staying on the site all of your time there.
Even with the bar and restaurant on site there are plenty of shops, restaurants and cafes in nearby towns (driving distance) or Nevez where you are able to cycle too with out to much effort.
There are places such as Pont- Aven where I would recommend the restaurant with the water wheel and to walk around the town is beautiful and Concarneu with a walled city museum and market days both with plenty of souvenir shops and traditional Breton Goods.
The beautiful city on Quimperle with lots of shops and restaurants takes about an hour to get to but well worth it.
The beaches are all beautiful and clean and with plenty of them and never to crowded.
There is a chateau just near Concarneau that is open to the public in season.

" Stunning location- such a relaxing... "
Submitted By: Mrs T TredgeOur son is too old for kids clubs, but him and his dad found so much to do...and turned into kids again anyway! They played volleyball, lots of football and they even headed down to the beach for some windsurfing! They managed to get me up playing boules, but to be honest I was happy relaxing in the sun!
To be honest, some of the other mobile homes looked like they had a bit more space outside, but that's not a big problem. We didn’t really spend too much time in the mobile anyway, we quite like venturing out of the campsite. Saying that, the evening entertainment looked great and the reps were very friendly and helpful.
Happy holidays!

" The site is well situated, well... "
Submitted By: Mr P EveWe came for a holiday here in 2001 and really enjoyed ourselves, albeit back then we only had a 1 year old child so didn't have much interaction with the facilities, rather we used it as a base to go exploring the surrounding area.
This time we returned with our 6 and 3 year old girls and made extensive use of the facilities which highlighted quite a few problems.
The drinks and food are expensive and the outdoor children’s pool, which our kids needed to use as the other outdoor pool has a depth of about 1.6m all over, does not open until 11AM.
When it does open there is a permanent volley ball net set up, used by older children and adults which prevents the younger kids from using the pool.
We felt the entertainment was poor; on 3 nights there was no children’s entertainment and therefore nothing until 9 PM. Out biggest gripe was dogs off leads; our oldest child was chased briefly by a dog before I could get to her to intervene and whilst there are signs everywhere they seem to be largely ignored.
Even whilst we were in the reception queuing to see a rep there was a dog owner with the dog off the lead. A complaint merely raised a shrug of the shoulder.
In conclusion, it's a great area to visit and using the Parc as a base is ideal but the more facilities you use the more apparent the Parc’s failings become.

" We have just returned from le domaine... "
Submitted By: Mrs B J DeanOur children are 4 and 6 they loved the indoor and outdoor swimming pools which were spotless and checked regular throughout the day. The splash zone was great for children of all ages. The whole complex was spotlessly clean. If I have 1 criticism it is that there was sometimes no loo roll and soap in the ladies loos. The staff throughout the whole site were extremely friendly and nearly all spoke English. The shop was extremely well stocked, the bar was showing all the world cup games.
The entertainment staff were fab, for kids and adults. Our children loved the tiger show at 8.00 with games and dances. Then the adults turn at 9.00 to enjoy a magician, singers, cabaret, team games etc. I would recommend this holiday to anyone with a family,

Submitted By: Mr I HaynesHowever on arrival at 8 in the evening, we picked up the late arrival pack from the reception box only to find our allocated caravan was already occupied with a French family. Not what you want after travelling all day. It was sorted within a couple of hours, but not the ideal start to the holiday.
The indoor pool was ideal for us, and the evening entertainment was adequate for our children. The clubhouse compared to other sites we have stayed at seemed very small and basic, with limited seating.
On site shop was a bit expensive, but nearby supermarkets better. Beaches a short drive away. Mainly French families at this time of the year staying, which was fine.

Submitted By: Mrs S BrownWe went with four teenaged children and the accommodation was fantastic - very clean, spacious and well appointed with a lovely deck and an additional grassy area for games.
If you like to do the 'holiday camp thing' then its all there, but be prepared to pay the price! The price of drinks, snacks and other holidays treats is, we felt, inordinately high. However, there is a good Intermarche just down the road and we stocked up on lots of lovely treats there and only went to the entertainment once. Our teenaged children soon made friends and, ten Euros in hand, disappeared most evenings, leaving us to enjoy a nice bottle of wine, a good book and each other’s company - just what we like to do on holiday!
It is true to say that the camp is not within walking distance of any other activity/facility, but good local shops, fantastic beaches and lovely restaurants are just a short drive away.

" I read a very bad review for Domaine... "
Submitted By: Not SpecifiedLuckily we were extremely pleasantly surprised when we arrived. We had a 3-bedroom mobile home, which looked like it was brand new, it had every convenience you could need and a beautiful large deck, which we lived on. Each mobile home site had hedging around it so you really felt like it was your own space.
We brought 3 kids with us ages 2,5 and 14, and they all loved this holiday. The pool complex was brilliant and we spent most of our time there, we were allowed beach balls and 2 piece swimsuits. There was also tennis, basketball, mini golf, a running track and many other things to do, so much in fact that we were only left the park 3 times in a week and we only managed that because we bribed the kids.
The evening entertainment was definitely quirky but it really made is laugh, the family entertainment went on til 11pm and we could not shift our kids from in front of the stage until the last crazy dance had been danced.
Everyone who worked on this site, works very hard which made it a very hassle free holiday. We enjoyed this park so much that our first camping holiday will definitely not be our last!

The staff were lovely and very helpful. The site seemed to be infested with wasps. It put a bit of a downer on the week when after just arriving at the site 10 mins before, my 5yr old was stung by a wasp. She was very distressd as you can imagine but the staff in the medical centre at the pool were great with her and disinfected it and put a cream on to cool the pain. They were very good with her and helped calm her down. We were on edge all week after that over the wasps. They were everywhere.
The pirate kids club was good fun for the kids and there are a few small playground areas dotted around the park which the little guy enjoyed.
Check out Parc Odets Loisirs near Quimper (bout 35 min drive) Really worth the spin. Had a great day out there. Great for kids, teenagers and adults. 7 euro each to enter. Bring a packed lunch and swimming gear and spend the day there. Quimper is a beautiful city. Great for shopping. Pont Aven was a bit too busy and boring. Great zoo nearby too.
Overall I wouldn't hesitate to go back there.
