Will never return - Awful!

Just got back from our "deluxe" caravan short break, which was suppose to be for 3 nights. After 2 nights we couldn't stand another urine smelling night in our obviously sub-standard accommodation. It lacked the basics such as even a toilet brush and bedside light. Our crawling baby had to endure what appeared to be years of dirt ground into the carpet. Never again!

Rude unhelpful staff that don't seem to understand what customer service is! Dirty, smelly freezing cold caravan with broken windows and had power cuts every time we tried to plug something in. will NEVER be going again. it was the worst experience of my life.

After booking up and paying in January, I stumbled upon this review site. And I was terrified about what to expect from Marton Mere. The reviews were total RUBISH!!! We got there on the 22nd July and stayed for a week. It was brilliant! The whole family had fun. The caravan had three bedrooms and everything was in very good condition and it was clean and tidy. The staff were very friendly and helpfull and the facillities there are simply spot on. We will definately be going back there.

We went to Marton Mere in August 2011 Thankfully our caravan was near to the main complex so we didn,t have to walk miles everyday. The pool and flume are excellent. The cafe bar lacks cosiness with only a few comfy chairs for the adults to lounge in at the end of the day .Some of the bar staff are lacking some training too.We went to Preshaven in June 2011 and the bar and the staff are much nicer there.
If you have a blank cheque go into Blackpool town centre. The Waxworks,Pleasure beach and The Sealife Centre are mega expensive. We went to the model village and the Zoo which are much better value and nearby too.
If you dont want to cook theres McDonalds,Pizza Hut and KFC just a mile away and a good pub a 5 minute walk outside the site entrance.

  • Advice: Visit the Zoo and the Model village

First week in August spent at Marton . Blessed with lovely weather, but I do not think it would have clouded my opinion had it been different .
Caravan lovely .Seemed spanking new . Spacious.plenty spacious, for two adults and to younger . Immaculately clean.
We were a while away from the complex ,but as another poster mentioned, there was next to no noise when folks were turning out of the complex late at night.
Security was tight at complex entrance and folk were politely asked to return with passes if they arrived without .
Entertainment was fun . Excellent for the very young onesand enough campness for the adults to giggle at . Guest acts were good as well .
Gripes ; being asked for five pound fifty for a large glass of wine in the sports bar . Bar staff need training as to how to manage service ie , knowing who needs serving next and not have customers lining up in lines like a dinner queue . It shouldn't be a complete revelation to management that the complex may be a tad busy in August and staff should be properly instructed and equipped . Oh,and yes..somewhere for people to sit down would be nice . It should not be necessary for people to have to be in the bar at five in the afternoon to secure a seat for the evening .
Found a couple of really, really good restaurants in town, but we kissed many a frog before we found them .And to the poster who mentioned the Clifton Arms ,we kept meaning to visit ,but never made it,which I regret...next time,eh ?
To sum up...I'm a terrible, terrible snob and extrodinarily fussy but had a wonderful time and the lake is a beautiful place to take yourself to for a bit of solitude .
Pick accomidation carefully . As with most aspects of life...you get what you pay for .

We were at marton mare this july and it was fantastic. Our caravan was new and very clean and not to far away from the complex,it was quite at night no noice when people are going back to there caravans. The funstars were great fun and so good with the kids. There is security on the one door at all times so you feel safe to allow the children out of your sight as they are unable to leave the entertainment complex, plenty to do here and not far from blackpool center but the bus does take a long time to get there it good though it stops that the zoo and the park before going into town. if you want a good meal and not to far away please go the clifton arms it may not look that great from out side but i can tell you its so differant when you get in doors the meals are great ,we had three meals with change from £20. you cant get much better. we will be back to marton mere.

just bk frm a weeks holiday 2 marton mere and we loved every minute of it, i had booked a deleux caravan but upgraded to a 2011 model b4 we went, the caravan was gorgeous with 3 bedrooms which each had a tv/dvd with freeview which was great for my kids at night,we also had an ensuit just off the master bedroom, everything in the caravan was spotless clean and i found the staff pleasent and friendly, the tesco is massive but i found that asda was better value, kids enjoyed the shows in the showbar, the only down side was that the bar did not sell mine or my hubbys type of drink but other than that we had a great time and are thinking of booking again for next year.

We went on holiday here for a ling weekend in May 2011 and liked it so much we are going back in September. The accommodation was large, clean and family friendly. I took three kids 12,6 and 5 and we found plenty to do.

Stayed at Marton Mere in October on a Sun Deal.Obviously when you are paying discount prices you don't expect luxury but do expect cleanliness. What a dump. As we drove towards our van there were rats running about the site, we saw many on a regular basis which could have been something to do with the fact that plastic bin bags were left lying round the vans from previous residents. We left five days later and the same bags were still lying. On entering the van we had to clean it from top to bottom as it was less than hygienic. I had to phone housekeeping and ask for fresh duvets as they absolutley stank of goodness knows what. We will never be back. It is grim place and anyone who enjoys a holiday there is easily pleased.

GOOD SITE

Jun 2011, BOBbbys

Hello, myself and the missus went from 6th june - 10th june, so basically Monday - Friday.
Site itself is quite nice and easy to get round minus the bloody speed bumps, its quiet and the funworks is ok minus the fixed arcade machines lol
entertainment was ok but was focused alot round kids, but around 9pm would except adult entertainment but nope, still kids stuff till about 10pm when we were tired to watch anymore and retired to our caravan
we stayed in luxury plus which was amazing, 32 inch freeviewe/hd tv ensuite, and was very clean
food was shocking and was ok, we only aint once minsus the fish and chip stall, but this was due to the prices, was ridiculous
would go again but entertainment and food prices lot to be desired for

after reading all the negative reviews about marton mere,[after we had booked] we were a little worried that our holiday was not going to be as nice as we had hoped, but the worst thing about it was the weather.we had upgraded to a superior caravan which had a nice flat screen tv and a microwave.the caravan itself though clean was just basic.we found the staff to be pleasant and helpful and the site was clean and tidy.blackpool itself was very disappointing as the prom is being renovated and looked like a bombsite, hardly anything was open during the week.all in all, your holiday is what you make it and had the weather been better we would have had a brilliant time.not the best haven site that i've ever been to, hafan y mor takes that title for me,however it was nowhere near as bad as some of the reviews painted it
