After reading all the reviews I was very worried. I have just come back from a 4 day break and it was better than I thought. The Caravan was very clean and no problems, just remember to take essentials like toilet rolls etc.
Entertainment for the kids is good but the adults could do with looking at apart from that good stay.
Would also be careful of the prices in the Mash and Barrell expensive.

Just returned home after a 4 day break at Cala Gran. The site was fantastic, the kids were never bored because the entertainment was great, the big inflatable slide, trampolines, park, outdoor splash area and swimming pool kept them going all day. The caravan we stayed in was clean and and modern. I recommend this site to anyone.

I have recently returned from a 4 night stay at the Cala Gran Haven holiday park in Fleetwood, Blackpool.
After reading a lot of reviews all over the internet I found loads of positive reviews and not surprisingly I read quite a few negative reviews also.
As the holiday was a surprise for my birthday from my grandparents, I had no choice whether I wanted to go or not but was looking forward to it.
But after reading reviews I was very weary whether I would enjoy it, as I have also a 2 year old son and a partner who thinks bad about everything.
We was all set and ready to go, it didn't take that long and got there within 40 minutes from Bolton, and was very easy to find. It isn't overly advertised as a 'Haven' holiday park but it is actually part of the Haven family as you do see signs when arriving etc.
I also looked at lots of photos on the internet before the holiday and they made it look a bit run down, but when we arrived this was not the case at all, it was clear that there had been a lot of cosmetic improvements which made the park look more appealing.
We arrived at 2pm but could only book in at 4pm so we had a walk around and a walk around in the amusements and the Mash & Barrel bar and restaurant which was very nice, new and modern.. which suggested it had recently been refurbished as was a lot nicer than expected. We also ate a couple of times in here on our stay and food and drink was a bit expensive but quite nice. (Example prices: £8 for a curry meal, £9 for a steak meal etc.. £1.75 for a pint of coke) but as we went self catering I didn't mind having a couple of meals out (or in) if you know what I mean haha.
We got in the que for our keys at 4pm, we had 2 caravans as there was me, my partner, my 2 year old son, my brother and his girlfriend and son, plus my nan and grandad with there 2 dogs. We got both caravans right next to each other which was quite good considering it was Easter and it was full up and we only booked late, so this was nice that we where close together.
We had a standard caravan as we had dogs with us, and my brother had a superior caravan. I was expecting the worst with ours as i read bad reviews but was very surprised to see it was a very nice clean caravan, couldn't fault it at all. I then went to my brothers caravan and it was also very nice and clean, only difference was it was slightly bigger and they had a bigger Tv and a toaster, apart from that i couldn't see the difference haha so it doesn't always pay off paying extra for a potentially better caravan.
The park is quite big, should I say long, we was at one end of the park but its only a 5minute walk to the entertainment area which is situated in the middle of the park which was quite good.
During the day we didn't really stay on the park as we intended to go out to all the attractions such as Fleetwood, Blackpool etc. But we did go to the swimming pool which was good, it could be slightly bigger as seemed a bit busy at certain times but we always went when it was quieter such as just after lunch or a couple hours before it closed about 4pm as it closed at 5.45pm. There was also changing facilities for everyone in the same place, not separate for girls and boys, which I found quite useful it meant me and me son could get changed and my partner could get changed in the next cubicle without losing each other and waiting around. Locker cost £1 but you get this back when returning. There is also a water slide, and a shallow end, and the deep end went to 1.5meters in depth. Overall swimming pool was pretty good.
I also took my son to a messy morning session where he loved getting messy with the paints and glitter.
Arcades and games room was a lot bigger than i thought it would be, they have everything from 2p and 10p machines, games machines where you can win tickets to get prizes, teddy grabbing machines, pool tables, bowling, small baby rides, and everything in between. I also noticed there was a small over 18's amusement area. So there was something for everyone.
Outside area to the rear just off the bar and amusements there is a decked seating area, there is also a play area with climbing frames for both young children and older children. There was mini golf and a football/basket ball court. Also during the day there was a bouncy castle slide, trampolines and supervised archery area which where all free. We also hired a peddle car for half an hour which was £6 (with a £10 returned deposit) which was pretty ace as we gave our self a guided tour around the park on it haha.
At the front area there is a seating area with deck chairs for sun bathing, I know what your thinking with great British weather but it was 24 degrees when we was there was you never know. This looked like it was also a smoking area aswell.
There was a SPAR shop on site which was quite expensive, but was very essential for those things you forget to pack.
Reception area was very clean and the staff helped out a lot, they provided leaflets of local attractions etc.. bus times into Blackpool and just if we needed anything they was happy to help.
Evening entertainment was pretty good, there was lots of music and dancing with all the kids. When we was there, the entertainment was the big family quiz, comedian, bands and singers, pantomime, and lots more. Im assuming the entertainment is varied week by week but you receive a leaflet with everything that is on throughout the day and night when you check in.
We visited Blackpool a couple of times and went on the bus which took 20-30minutes depending on the time of day and how busy it was. The bus stop was situated just outside the park which was very handy. Also on the other side of the road was a bus stop to go to Fleetwood which takes 15minutes.
Overall I was quite surprised how nice it was and at the end of the week none of us actually wanted to leave as we had such a great time. Dont get me wrong, the people who leave negative comments might just have not been as lucky, but I spoke to a lot of people when leaving on the final day and they said they had a really good time. So lets face it, it cant be that bad! For the price and what you get for your money it was very good. 8/10 for me!
I hope my review helps!!

just got back today from Cala Gran on a 4 night break with husband and 2 sons, aged 9 and 15. We all enjoyed the site very much, caravan was very clean and modern, with 3 bedrooms, lots of space. The boys both enjoyed what the campsite had to offer, played football, pool, amusements, took out a go kart round the park. We had tea once and breakfast twice during our stay in the Mash & Barrel which was clean and the food was nice. Went swimming in the indoor pool, the outside splash area looked fun. There is ample to do and it suited all ages. I think the park was very well run and looked very clean and tidy to us. Saying all this it was excellent weather which made this break more enjoyable.

we went on a 5 day break to cala gran, we all had a good holiday, the caravan was ok it could have been cleaner, the food in the Mash and barrol was nice so we had our tea there every night, you do need to watch though because they stop serving food at 9pm and after a day at the pleasure beach we got back 10 mins to late but the pizza place was open. We would go again but i would take some cleaning stuff with me.

We have just returned from cala gran yesterday. I was very wary before I went because as I always do I read the reviews before I went and then all I done woz worry wot on earth we were goin to.
We arrived last monday and checked in which only took about 10 mins which woz great, I woz dreading seeing our caravan as again the reviews had really put me off. Our caravan woz superieor, and there woz absolutely nothing wrong with it, it woz clean and tidy and that is all i woz worried about. The rooms are a bit small, and there matress a bit worse for wear but apart from that it woz fine.
About the actual park, I didn't think there woz alot on it,the one at craig tara(ayr)has more on it, the swimming pool is really small and my husband wosn't allowed to take our little girl down the chute or play around with her. The nite entertainment woz alright some of the variety acts i.e some singers were quite rubbish but the fun stars were good fun, I found it quite expensive and as it rained the full holiday we spent quite a bit of time at the complex therefore spending quite abit of money but we can't controll the weather lol.
We ate a few times in the mash n barrel and we had absolutely no complaints with the food here at all, infact we thought it woz nice and our wee girl absolutely loved the small play area, the only downfall here is there isn't a toilet in here u have to go into the amusements for one, and they are not the best smelling toilets.
All in all our holiday woz pleasant enough and had we had better weather we would have enjoyed it a whole lot more.

  • Advice: Quite expensive, not the best pool but overall an ok park but I have been to better

This was the 2ND visit to CALAGRAN, but will DEFO be the last.went for a weeks holiday with my husband and 2kids.when we arrived at our caravan the dirty sheets from the previous guest were sitting outside the front door, and stayed there for 2days,then we tried to make dinner, the oven was broken.so we tried to phone the emercency number they gave us when reception was closed, but they just put us onto answering machine telling us to phone back in 10mins.30mins later we got through.the man came and said we had to wait next day for a part, next day arrived to discover we didnt have a grill, so we waited 30mins again phoning the emercency number, the man came with a new grill, but when we questioned about the oven part,he said that no part had been ordered and we would need to wait another day to get it fixed.arghh...the pots hadnt been washed either, they were put back in the cupboard with there lids on.and the toilet hadnt been cleaned, but i just cleaned them all, not wanting to waste anymore time on the phone.the entertainment was poor too, the shows repeated twice in the week, but cheryl and kerry were good with the kids.the mens hand dryer in the toilets was hanging off the wall exposing wires which could have easily hurt someone.then to finnish a bad week off, after we had waded through a big puddle to get to the complex because lack of drains,my husdand saw a rat running about outside the main entrance. we will never visit calagran again, its the worst haven holiday park we have stayed in.

Nice Holiday, Filthy Caravan

Arrived on the Monday afternoon, opened the caravan door and a musty smell hit us. The smell came fron either the seats or the carpet or both. The carpet was filthy with black stains. Obviously drinks had been spilt and not cleaned up properly. We booked a "prestiege caravan" but it was far from it, the only thing we got from having this type of caravan was an early check-in. The bedrooms were nice and so was the toilet/shower room. The kitchen was dirty. The grill hadn't been cleaned and something had been spilt in the fridge. The oven was greasy. We went to reception and asked if we had been given the wrong type of caraven by mistake because it didn't look like this on the Haven website. We also said that we have had to clean the kitchen. We were told that the caravan was correct and we should have reported the dirty kitchen. By looking at the paper work in the caravan such as documents for the boiler and fire this caravan was new at the start of 2009. The caravan must have been abused in this time and not maintained and cleaned as it should'ave. The kids enjoyed the holiday and used the swimming pool daily. The staff were polite. Just a shame about the filthy caravan. We won't be returning to Carla Gran. If the caravan was clean i would recommend Carla Gran.
