The Thorpe park illusion

As I was booking the short break, we were filled with anticipation of visiting a well known resort, Cleethorpes, and a well established Haven camp. having seen all the brochures both online and from agents along with the TV adverts. The illusion was set. When we got there the site showed great expectations. We could see the zip line, abseiling and climbing wall, pool etc. all the amenities the hype were there but what they did not say when I booked it on the phone was that they were closed, due to it being the off season (although the camp was booked solid). The nearby Pleasure Land was operating at only around 10% yet was still charging 100%. As for the accommodation, O M G. The caravan looked like it was built in the 80's and refurbed 10 years ago therefore was disgustingly stained, the curtains, walls and cushions in the lounge were a disgrace, and that was just a start. During the night the temp varied between +1c and -1c so that the walls had running water on them in the mornings. All the clothes in both drawers and wardrobes were damp and smelling by the end of our stay, which was just 4 days but felt like 2 weeks. The ONLY plus for the site I would say is the staff were brilliant and dealt with complaints as swiftly as possible.
Would I go again? maybe during a hot week but I would prefer to go to the lakes were for the same money I can get a much superior caravan at a certain White cross bay.

DISGUSTING
1 / 10
Oct 2011, MISS P

Have just returned from Haven Thorpe Park.
At first glance caravan looked lovely..but after looking in cupboards, under the sofa and in the bathroom it was a disgrace (and we paid to upgrade to this. My nan fell over at the park and was rushed to hospital, Haven couldnt care less! The next day when we woke it was freezing, no heating no hot water! We called the out of hours number and after 45 mins someone finaly came out. My baby and son were shivering!! No they didnt care. We were told that the pilot light wernt lit and it is up to us to make sure it is working!! In the master bedroom the heater was broken and was stuck on high we could not turn it off....they told us we either leave it on or we loose our hot water!! My baby dehydrated and we were so hot we got no sleep. We had various problems with the caravan with regards to cleaniness, the heating and the hot water we reported all of issues and they did nothing until the thursday....we were leaving friday! The only reason we stayed was because it was my sons birthday or we would have left. I asked to make a complaint and they told me to email a Julie Carr and she has told me a different complaints produre....she also told me that because i am no longer at the Holiday park they wont issue me a refund for the upgrade!!
STAY AWAY FROM HAVEN!! GO BUTLINS!!

as a previous caravan owner i am now returning to book thru haven as have done once previously of which i found some things not up to scratch eg rust radiator, opening the front caravan door and found the pelmet curtain above the door drop on my head when i opened the door but all in all you cannot get perfection all the time with caravans but on the plus side there is loads to do in the area around cleethorpes and the two show bars and the acts that the funstars do and guest acts are brilliant - we always moan about going back but we still end up there and now my daughter is a funstar so i get discount but would still recommend, have been to devon cliffs and few other places but please disregard other comments it is a good site and if you have a prob with ya van talk to them like i did last time and they changed it for me, there are too many ppl on here moaning, bet they did not talk to the reception guys to get the problem rectified xxx

bad holiday

Jul 2011, fish

having been on lots of haven holidays ,i have to say that thorpe park was not the best ,we paid for a 2011 caravan and did not get one ,the amenities inside the caravan were not up to standard ,some staff members were pig ignorant and could not be bothered to help .the outdoor flume pool was so cold i never went on them again it was like going into an ice bath ,the arcade is a rip off ,the grab machines are not strong enough to lift a teddy bear and you can easly spend to get 1 tedddy 30 to 40 pounds ,the site is clean and tidy ,but witnessing the speed of the refuse trucks ,it was alarming having to push my 2 kids on to the grass to avoid being hit due to a driver of the refuse truck going to fast and not watching where he was going.my wife had to clean the caravan on arrival as it was filthy and the pots and pans were fithy also, for my family ,primrose valley and craig tarra holiday parks are the best weve been to.

Holiday with my grandchildren
10 / 10

I booked a prestige caravan with 2 bedrooms through the Haven website just a couple of weeks before travelling. The price was £309 discounted from £499. I read lots of reviews about the site after I had made the booking. If I had done so before hand I would never have made the booking.
However, I arrived at about 3 p.m. and found clear instruction about where to park prior to check in. I then received clear instructions about where to go (the show bar)for check-in. I didn't like the noise from all the slot machines and loud music in the amusement hall but once inside the show bar it was much quieter.Within a few short minutes I had my caravan key, map, site information and fun passes, which were included in the cost of my holiday. Our caravan was situated at Waterside, an attractive area of the Park, we did not have a view of the lakes but the park has lots of trees and shrubs and I was quite happy with the view as it was. The caravan appeared to be up to date, probably less than a year old. the seats, carpets, laminate floor areas and fittings were all clean as was crockery and cutlery. The beds were made up and the bedding and mattresses were clean. There were spare pillows and and bedding in the cupboard. All appliances were in good order. There was hard standing for my car immediately adjacent to the caravan. The Waterside area was, for the most part, very quiet and peaceful and my grandson loved the gaggle of geese complete with goslings that paraded past every now and again. We used the indoor pool which was a little cool on entry but we got used to it. The outdoor flumes were open but it was too cold for my grandson to stay outside whilst his older sister used the slides and I was the only adult. There were ample changing rooms and lockers. The 20 pence piece you put in the locker is non-refundable so bring a few, in case, as I did, you forget to put something in before you shut the door. The staff at the pool desk looked after my shoes without complaint though. The changing area and pool were as clean as you would expect for a well used public facility. The range of bouyancy aids for sale at the pool is more comprehensive than at the Spar shop. We did not really make full use of the other facilities as I was here partly to meet up with family and old friends who live locally. We visited the beach at the end of the Humberstone Fitties which was clean and uncrowded. There was free parking really close to the beach but no loos. The area immediately adjacent to this beach is called Tetney Marshes and is of real environmental interest. Read the warning signs regarding tidal activity before walking on it though. The main beach at Cleethorpes is quite a walk or bus ride/drive away and there is only short term free parking in the town itself but there are a a lot more facilities. Thre are a number of pay and display sites. There is a large Tesco store about 10 minutes away which I used once for our main shop with occasional visits to the Spar on site (which has fresh baked bread and breakfast sandwiches too.) THe staff I encountered were friendly and polite. I did not need to report any repairs and did not run out of gas or electricity. My fun passes needed to be exchanged for new ones as the passes change at the weekends so check the date of expiry of your pass and if it's before the end of your holiday call in at reception. I had a great week with my grandchildren aged 6 and 20 months and would recommend the site for families with young children or older couples seeking a relaxing time.

We went with 4 adults, 4 children and one dog. We were expecting not too have a very good caravan having a dog but the caravan was lovely and clean but far from main complex. But it was close to the beach, park and shop. The caravan site is set in lovely surroundings with a lovely lake. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The showbar at night was good and the food was good too. Would recommend this site for people with dogs and families. Overall I found this haven to be the best we ever been too.

just returned from the weekend away at thorpe Park. When arrived the caravan allocated was missing a tv and electricity wasnt on-this was no problem. Given an upgraded caravan from standard to prestige-heating in all rooms and beds made up-kids loved it!!! Caravan was clean and equipment provided was good-freeview on tv was a bonus. Plenty to do on the site, had lovely weather which was a bonus!!!! Only gave an 8/10 because spent so much-things on site so expensive, but headed to the local tesco to save some money!!! kids said give it 10/10 but they think money is on tap!!!

I went on holiday with my mom and my sister and my brother to Thorpe Park for 4 nights. It was great there , I went more off the site as they had great facilities E.G Chinese buffet , Carvery , Bowling ect. The caravan however was in bad condition. There was earwigs everywhere and there was mould in the kitchen area and loads of bugs in the beds. But overall i loved it there. I am going again this year but with more of my family (auntie and cousins) But this time we have a private caravan as the caravan we had was in bad conditon but im going for a week now :)

its an ok place. the only problem is there isnt alot for 16 year old plus its great for the younger kids, but the older set there isnt much to do. and because of this i saw a few children hanging about in the arcade and it made me feel uneazy but its a great placed over priced maybe but very welcoming. and i enjoyed it myself. it would be a good investment to be an owner somewhere to go whenever i want. and the caravn was wonderfull. it was nice to spend a few days in with the family and watch t.v and the tesco is not too far away either. also the hospital is easy to find as there is a few clumsy people in my family. but all in all its a fantastic place. and the swimming pool is fabalous.

Absolutely Awful

Oct 2010, Disappointed

We booked four 'superior' caravans together in April for a family reunion on Friday 22nd - Monday 25th October. I would challenge the management to find caravans more basic than the ones we were allocated. Filthy carpets, pots and pans, and the furniture was so dirty we did not want to sit on it. The temperature dropped to -3 on two of the nights and the rooms were so cold the condensation ran down the walls onto the beds. On the plus side the swimming pool was great for the kids. I have never been more pleased for a holiday to end! I doubt Haven get many repeat bookings.
