Hopton Holiday Park Reviews
" Absolutely Brilliant!!! "
Submitted By: gareth11Great Yarmouth is spotless clean there is plenty to do, a fairground for the children, model village, arcades, waxworks and a beautiful beach to mention a few.
We would highly recommend the Hopton Holiday village and score it 9/10.
WELL DONE! to all the staff involved in making our long weekend pleasureable, you were all polite, pleasant and very helpful.

" Best Haven Site "
Submitted By: JUECWe booked via the sun newspaper then upgraded to a prestige caravan as we always do and is well worth the extra money. We requested a good location and got one ! Thats good customer service for you.The staff at Hopton are superb. We were on the second row with a beautiful seaview. This site is a good base for exploring Norfolk, there are so many things to do and see. Gorleston beach is excellent and Bewilderwood at Hoveton is a must for the kids. My mum and dad booked their holiday at Hopton (Sept. 09) just from seeing our holiday photo's. We are definately going back next year, so are my mum and dad.
Advice: Lots to do and see whatever your family age group and it hardly ever rains !
Activities: Restaurant in the White Hart on Warren Lane, Somerleyton House, Fritton Lake and Bewilderwood.

" wont go again "
Submitted By: mary81It annoyed me when the entertainment staff called all the children round the stage to show them lots of goodies. After exciting the kids they were told to get there parents to buy tickets. At evening when they do there shows staff kept everyone off dance floor, so had no choice but to watch their boring shows.
We was there for a week, weekend entertainment was good as they had outside live bands. In the week we watched the same thing over n over again.
Staff i found was ever so nice... Swimming pools was ok. BUT SLIDE IS NOT ALWAYS OPEN. I foung there was not much to do. Beach was lovely.

" Pleasantly suprised! "
Submitted By: nelson65Overall the experience for me was all i expected & more, we were not hassled to buy a van or merchandise, were not kept awake by dogs or teenagers (though quite why you would not expect to find kids & dogs at a caravan site i do not know!)..........the location was great, 10mins from Yarmouth 5mins from Gorleston (best beach).Overall i suppose the moral is if you want perfection & top class cuisine take a trip to Paris or London. If you a want a nostalgic caravan experience i would definately recommend Hopton............i hope you have as good a time as we did, which at £199 for 3 nights on May bank holiday i think was a bargain (for a superior plus van).
Advice: They make a lovely stuffing!.......
Activities: Gorleston Beach

" Been twice..go a 3rd time?? "
Submitted By: Mr N CavendishFirst went there in Sept 2008 (booked through The Sun) and enjoyed it enough to book again. Me the missus, one 4 yr old and a baby.
This time round we stayed in a section of the camp called 'Southreach' which was virtually on the beach and about 5 mins walk to the entertainment complex.
Having read through other reviews regarding smelly caravans, over pushy merchandising, etc I will say bad luck with the smelly caravans, but as for the merchandising, I did notice it was more relentless this time round!
For example, my 4 yr old attended a 'Picnic with Bradley bear', the actual picnic was excellent, a lunch was provided as were photo opportunities and games...but the every ten minute mention of 'also available is this and that' got a bit tiresome.
The camp itself is very clean in my opinion, never encountered any major problems with the caravan (also very clean and well equipped). The food on offer is what I would expect from a holiday camp, if you dont like it there are plenty of Gastro-pubs nearby.
The entertainment is again, what I would expect from a caravan park, its no Las Vegas!
(But isnt it part of a caravan holiday, the quirkyness, etc!?)
The beach at Hopton is lovely, I felt it was clean and safe enough for my kids to play on it, lovely sand. The access is a bit steep via steps but there is also a sloped access there now that was'nt there last year.
Overall, I think you pay your money and you take a chance, like everything in life. Ive been here twice and enjoyed both holidays. Will I book a third time?
Of course I will.
Advice: Lovely beach
Activities: Oulton Broad

" hopton on hell "
Submitted By: dave61072" We have never been on a caravan... "
Submitted By: Haven HolidaymakerWe waited a while to check in, and as we were waiting there were two families queuing to complain. We had booked a Superior Plus caravan, and both these other families had booked a Platinum which I guess were a lot more money than what ours were. Apparently the caravans were the same as the normal ones, and not very clean. The reception staff explained to these people that these were now classed as Platinum Caravans and that they had no where else to move them, but the guests were saying that they were the same as the photo in the brochure of the normal caravans. The staff pointed out repeatedly that the pictures are just for show and what the guests are paying for is what is in the list down the side. I found this a bit off as they obviously use the pictures to rope people into paying more and more and was quietly worried in the queue as I thought if the 'best' caravans were smelly and dirty and full of stains, as these people were saying what on earth would my caravan be like!!
Anyway, we finally got our keys and headed off for our caravan. I must admit we were pleasantly surprised. The caravan was roomy, clean and overall very nice. The childrens room was very cramped and the beds were extremely uncomfortable, but the rest of the facilities in the caravan were great. We were a few seconds from the beach and a little way from the entertainment area which suited us nicely.
The entertainment staff worked very hard to please all and put on special shows for the children etc. The merchandise however was everywhere, so a lot of pressure on the parents to buy anything from Rory beakers to flashing crowns, wands etc.
Hopton has a lovely little beach where my children loved to go early morning to collect stones and any other opportunity that they could too. The swimming pool was quite small for the amount of caravans on site.
The eating area in the complex was very expensive but was ok if you were stuck for a bite to eat.
The beach at Gorelstone is absolutley lovely, quiet and really really sandy and literally a stones throw away.
Hopton is far enough out of Great Yarmouth to be able to visit and come away.
I would highly recommend Hopton Holiday Village, staying in a Superior Plus Caravan. From what I have heard.. dont pay the extra to upgrade.
Enjoy and hope the sun shines
" We have just returned from Hopton... "
Submitted By: Mr A DaviesWe attempted to complain for the first 2 days but the cues were horrendous so we decided to make the most of it, but we had had enough by the end of the week and decided to leave a day early and told the reception this would give them enough time to clean it for the next unfortunate guests !
Not impressed with the whole set up. From the beginning you have to walk through the amusement arcades to get anywhere, pool, showroom, bar, etc.
I even played on the golf course where under 14s not allowed, there were kids about 10 hacking round and an older guy playing 3 balls !! More like a cheap pitch and put.
It is totally based on getting people to buy caravans.
I never expected it to be perfect but it should of been spotless inside for almost £1000.
The 2 in my ratings was for the entertainment staff who really make an effort.
Do yourself a favour and stay away from this place, i will never go back and this has put me off a UK caravan park holiday for ever.
" We have just returned from Haven's... "
Submitted By: Mr D WardWe arrived at the Reception to check in just as the guy in front was complaining that the van he had been given was filthy. Not a good start. She stamped our confirmation sheet and then sent us to the the Show Bar to collect our keys!!! When we found it the young lady gave us this 30 second speech as whats what etc,but because of the speed she was talking and her eagerness to get rid of us we were none the wiser to what she had said. We arrived at our van eventually and upon entering realised it was FAR SMALLER than expected. It also smelt of ciggies,YUK. The carpets were stained and I had to clean the cooker before we could use it.
The best part that our children aged 9 and 14 enjoyed was the pool. Although very small and always busy, it was clean and safe.
The entertainment was terrible. If you wanted to sit down at a table expect to be going into the Showbar by at least 6pm. Bare in mind that the entertainment started much later and carried on till gone midnight. Our girls found it very boring and old fashioned and were ready to leave within the hour of arriving.
The onsite shop is VERY overpriced, use the nearby supermarkets for essentials.
Don't expect a fab beach cos there isn't one, just sand separated by groynes, thats it and to get to it you walk down a steep slope!!! Not very child friendly.
My advise, don't go to Hopton's HAVEN Caravan site. The surrounding areas are lovely and when I visit the Norfolk Coast again Hopton will not be on my list to explore.
" we have stayed at many haven camps... "
Submitted By: Mr C Cooki would recomend the sunday carvery and the jolly fryer chip shop.
beach access was good and my children loved it.
the only downside was havens new 2.30pm check in time instead of 1.30pm
" holiday from hell
never never... "
never never go here unless you want a holiday from hell
noisy dirty and staff who dont care if you have a good time or not
the caravan was filthy have photos to prove the dirt before i cleaned the caravan
not what i needed to be doing on holiday
no sleep for days due to the lack of thought of the teenage drinkers and screaming children who had been dragged to the pubs late at night and feed up and tired
child abuse those poor children and babies at 3am with drunk so called parents staggering back
never never never go to castier on sea haven holiday camp its worst than hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
" Booked this thru the Sun newsapaper... "
Submitted By: Ms C BurchellApart from that the resort was very clean and well presented, the food was good-'specially the carvery on the Sunday and all the staff were very pleasant. The caravan itself was excellent-spotlessly clean and very comfortable...had to but butter tho on the door hinges cos they were extremely creaky!
Entertainment wasn't that great and think it needed to be more varied past 9pm as kids found singers boring~magicians or comedy acts would've been better.
Only real gripe was the massive arcade area. You ad to walk thru this to get anywhere and of course the kids wanted to play all the games which were mostly £1 a go and ended up costing me an absolute fortune-shame Haven has to resort to this as traditionally caravan holidays are meant to be budget holidays i thought! At the end of the weekend it worked out i could've taken the kids abroad for the amount of money i spent......well u live and learn!
Beach was nice and the Lucky Inn Chinese Restaurant was lovely.

I booked a 4 day break in half term for myself and my two children, we had a super plus caravan that was clean, comfortable and could not be faulted, the beds in the childrens room were a little small, but we found a sofa that pulled out into a double sofa bed on the second night that was very comfortable and provided an extra double bed...so I was left in the childrens single bed that I managed not to fall out of (unlike my 9 year old daughter!). The staff in the shop, reception, entertainment, booking sporting activities were fab...and they were only young people, my son had half an hour of archery on a one to one for £5.00..how can you complain about that!
I would suggest take your own pillows, and I know we went in october so I guessed it might be a little chilly, so we had sleeping bags to sleep in with the duvets over the top of us...we were snuggly and warm and just put the fire on in the morning.
We didn't eat out on the site because I took alot of food with us, I am gluten free and have one child with peanut allergy so cooked in the caravan with great cooking facilities and we managed for 4 days!!!!! and live to tell the tale!!!!
p.s people are always happy to complain rather than compliment..its the world we live in!
hope you enjoy your stay at hoptons like we did..and don't forget your 2 pence peices for the horrible little addictive machines they have in the amusements! you can't avoid them!
Advice: go and enjoy..you don't have to leave the site if you like walking and exploring..its an adventure!
Activities: in 4 days we didn't have to leave the site..swimming took up most of the day!
Good for: Beach
