booked this holiday before i read the reviews and got very worried that i had made a big mistake after visting blue dolphin the year before and totally hated that caravan park.
when we got there the park was nice and clean and were greeted by friendly staff.
the caravan we stayed in was brilliant the beds were made up and had heating in the bedrooms which has been a first for us having visted haven parks for 9 years now,
only downfall was couldnt park car next to caravan.
this is a small park but has a family feeling about it there mainly is alot of older people who own caravans there and were very very friendly.
the showbar was a good size and i felt that my children were safe as i could see them, the secruity staff were fantastic they made sure everyone was safe and had a good time, only thing i would complain about was the funstar staff they picked the same children to go on stage every other night and didnt give the other children a chance basically you have to spend allday and night in there spending alot of money for your child to get on stage.
there is a beach on site but a steep hill to get up and down but well worth a visit my children spent 4 hours down there and took about 10 minutes to get up and down.
you can get bus to scarbrough/filey and to bridlington they run on the hour, they are quite expensive,we paid £20 for a day ticket(family of 4) to scarbrough but we could get on the open top bus there too. has speed boats for £3 each well worth doing and donkeys on the beach.
the bus to bridlington cost us £14.40 return for family of 4..i would recommend scarbrough and filey to anyone for a good day out.
the local takeaway put leaflets on your caravan doors the food is excellent
we had a brilliant time at reighton sands and will go again next year

me and my husband has been to reighton sands camping this will be my 3rd year running june 19th. never had anything to complain about. i am disabled and in wheelchair most of the time.it is the best site i have ever been on and i have been camping most of my life 32 years out of 35, my husband dont like caravans he thinks they are not safe enough.the first year we went to reighton sands we took my husbands son aged 18 he loved it,last year we took my husbands 17 year old daughter and her friend and both loved it never been camping before.the shop is expensive but like all holiday sites they all are. never been to a holiday site thats got a cheap shop on. there is a morrisons in bridlington and theres a tesco in scarborough, for those who dont drive there is buses in and out of the site also a tractor to take you down and back up from the beach in summertime, i am not a chav but these people who moan about the site and who thinks it could do with this that and all the rest then maybe abroad holidays would suit you best

Kids first Camping Trip - and not the last.

Arrived in pouring rain but found a good area to pitch the tent, just on the cliff top. Be careful here with kids as the drop is sheer and no fencing to protect them. Pitching area fairly clean other than odd cigarette end, torn guy lines, pegs etc. Friendly atmosphere, brilliant views.
Now I'm lucky in that my kids are beach bums, so we didn't spend any time in the funworks complex, other than an hour in the pool on our first day. Pool OK, though my eldest (9 year old) was a bit dissapointed with it. Shallow pool, 1.1m deepest point in centre.
Beach brilliant and unspoilt apart from odd item of litter - people are so lazy - just take it back with you. I understand that the tractor that is advertised for "lifts" to and from the beach does not run anymore.
Shop well stocked but pricey - Filey is only 10 minutes away by car.
Some minor noise at night, but tent area generally quiet by 11.00pm so kids not kept awake as such. You get the noisy ones everywhere, no doubt fuelled by the drink.
Take your own drinks, BBQ set (the instant BBQ's were a boon) and enjoy the company on the camp site and you won't go far wrong. This site fulfilled our expectations for a simple, basic and fun 4 day break with kids. I'd concede that if the weather wasn't so good, we may have had to make a journey into Filey or Bridlington during the day.

  • Advice: A simple and uncomplicated place to camp.

I was very brave and took my 4 grand children aged 5,6, 6 and 11 years old to Reighton Sands for a week. 28th May 4th June 2010. The children are used to the bigger Haven sites but they still thoroughly enjoyed enjoyed themselves. I found this site was very friendly.
The entertainment for the little ones was good, but was a bit too childish for the 11 year old so he spent most of his time in the arcade.
The swimming pool is just that! A rectangular swimming pool. The children were disappointed that there were no slides or anything exciting to do, as there are at many other Haven sites. But they still enjoyed it. The pool area was kept very clean and the staff were very helpful.
The security staff on the door were very polite and appeared to enjoy the job. My 6 year old grandson wandered out of the showbar, but he didn't get very far and was brought back by a security guard.
THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTED WAS THAT THEY HAVE STOPPED DOING THE TRACTOR RIDE TO AND FROM THE BEACH.
APPARENTLY DUE TO HEALTH AND SAFETY REGULATIONS!
I am disabled and therfore couldn't make it down to the beach.
We ended up driving into Filey, Bridlington and Scarborough. I did find that parking was a problem so next time i think we would use the buses.
If you want to go on a fantastic speedboat ride then head for Bridlington, not only was it cheaper than Scarborough it was soooo much more fun.
As someone else has mentioned i too was kept awake at night by the ****heads walking back to their caravans or tents shouting their silly heads off, showing no consideration for other site users.
The best one was when a Dad shouted really loudly at his kids to keep the noise down and this was at 1.30 am. But i imagine this happens at quite a few places.
Overall i would give Reighton Sands holiday park 8 out of 10. Had the tractor been operational it might well of scored 10/10

Paid £300 apx for the Bank Holiday weekend @ Reighton - of course being school holidays the prices get hiked up GRRRRR! - but it was comparable with the other Haven Parks in the area. Booked Haven because I thought if the weather was bad ( and it was dreadful!!!) the kids would at least have plenty to do - the park offers entertainment & activities aplenty. Well, to start with a positive, the reception staff ( indeed all the staff we met) were cheery and polite. We had paid extra for a 'superior' caravan - it was ok, nothing special, surfaces etc were clean but the carpets, upholstery and the windows were pretty grubby. Was a little annoyed that I had all the beds to make up too - didn't expect to for the amount I had paid! No loo roll either, and only one binbag! So bring your own! Onto the facilities - the pool was very average, and not too clean. My son fished out a huge hunk of hair and goo at one point - EWWWWW! Maybe it might be an idea for Haven to insist that in the pool everyone at least wears swimwear - we were digusted to see a 'lady' parading in and out of the pool wearing some bikini bottoms and a cotton vest, completely seethrough ( & no, she was no page 3) just what you want with a pool full of kids but the staff didn't bat an eyelid ( maybe they see worse? I shudder to think ). They offer aquagliders, and waterwalkers, but be aware that these are not free... Haven say it is a moderate charge but I don't think that with 3 kids £5 each for the aquagliders is moderate. Not on top of what you have already paid for the holiday. Please be aware, the pool & 'entertainment' is all that is free! You need the funworks passes to get into the entertainment complex - including the pub, arcade, and takeaway - didn't try the chippy but paid for a meal in 'Mash & Barrel'.. lovely place but overpriced and food at best average. We didn't try the 'showbar' so can't comment on the standard of the entertainment, but will say the reason we didn't is because one look at the showbar was enough - dark, dingy and smelly to be quite frank. There is definitely not enough to keep your kids entertained here if the weather is bad. One other reviewer mentions a kids play area, I didn't see one, unless they are referring to the very very tiny soft play area.. get more than 4 kids in there and it's a squash. There is a camp shop, and it's pretty well stocked, but the opening hours are no way long enough ( til' 8pm) and it is extremely expensive. Bear in mind too that Reighton is pretty isolated, nearest shops are Bridlington or Filey really so make sure you do a big shop on the way!!!! Last grumble now ( honestly!) you can get this everywhere, it's not really a park fault but does impact on your holiday - and thats the selfish attitude of some of the holiday makers there... whilst in Mash & Barrel an extremely drunk group were making a complete show of themselves - and making things uncomfortable for other diners, and friday and saturday night things didn't quieten down until about 3am - thanks to groups winding their ways to thier caravans shouting and swearing, oblivious to the fact people were trying to sleep!!!! If you want a quiet one, peak time here isn't for you!! Ok, positives - a big one is the location, fantastic views across Filey Bay and of the Bempton cliffs. Most of the vans have some sort of 'sea view'. Close to the beach too, about a 5 minute walk, it's a very steep cliffside path - but it's manageable, even with a toddler, just take your time going back up! ( No sign of the advertised tractor train ) Beach is stunning, lovely golden sands and completely unspoilt, apart from the litter that is washed up by the cliff edge ( not the parks fault - dirty people as usual - but why the council don't make an effort to have a clean up I don't know ) the park itself looks quite presentable, gravelled parking at the side of the vans so no problems there. To summarise ( finally! ) if you can get this for a cheap break, maybe from a sun deal or with a voucher or something - then maybe go for a few days with an open mind, but don't pay full price! It really is NOT WORTH IT! I've seen they want £700 for one week during summer hols... you must be barking to pay this! Save a bit more and get off to the airport, at least you'll get some sunshine!!! Happy holidays - wherever you end up!

well we have just returned from our holiday to reighton sands, we had a realllly good time.
after reading all these bad reviews i was slightly worried what we had got ourselves into..but i do think a holiday is what you make it but it doesnt help when all you read are bad reviews...it really isnt bad!
we booked a 2bed 10ft caravan and got upgraded to a 3bed 12ft one with no charge. reception staff are very friendly and helpful. the caravan was really clean and everything in working order.
night time entertainment was really good. all of the funstars are really good entertainers and really give it their all. 'wilma' was my sons favourite..he even bought her a chocolate bar and said she was his girlfriend.
they do lots of singing and dancing and raffles and looooads of chances to win prizes and get certificates.
the beach was gorgeous!! its a steep hill to get down but manageable, (even with a 4month old baby in a pram) and 4 year old. realllly was worth the steep walk.
we got the bus to bridlington one day and got the landtrain to sewerby hall and went to the childrens zoo and playpark, was a fab day out, loads of areas for picnics.
the pool was a decent size too and was never too full, actually it was pretty quiet the handful of times we went, nice and clean. lockers+changing rooms are right by the pool so easy to quickly nip out and get a towel or w/e you need.
all the staff were helpful and always had a smile on their faces, as where the security staff.
the mash+barrel was fab, really lovely food. not too pricey either, the chip shop was lovely aswel.
drinks in the bar was 'ok' priced.. just as you expect at any club on holiday.
the kids outside playground was really good aswel. all the park was kept really clean.
i honestly would reccomend this holiday park and we will deffinatley be returning later this year or next year.

This was the first holiday for my 3 yr old son and I wish I had picked somewhere else! Dont get me wrong there were some good points....the site was clean and tidy, the staff at check-in were helpful and friendly and the caravan was clean and tidy but thats about it for good points!! We went on 3rd May 2010 and stayed in a superior caravan (I'm glad I didnt go for a standard, I dread to think what they're like!!) there was a gas fire in the living area but no heating in the bedrooms....they were FREEZING!! so we ended up sleeping in the living room and had to keep the fire on all night (not ideal)! There is a spar shop on site which is extremely expensive, The new Mash and barrel looks lovely but is over priced, there is a fish and chip shop on site but that again was overpriced and to be honest the food was awful! the arcade is small and dated and the pool didnt look fantastic either! There was some entertainment for the kids in the dark and to be honest slightly damp smelling showbar, that wasn't particularly good. If you do spend any amount of time in your caravan and want to watch TV, all you will have is 5 (not very clear) channels (I thought the whole country had gone digital....obviously Reighton sands hasn't!!!) All in all not very much to keep the kids entertained. Luckily for us the weather was glorious for 2 days and we spent those days on the beach. The website tells you there is a tractor ride that can take you down to the beach and bring you back up but there was nothing like that when we were there, it is a VERY steep hill to get to the beach and is very hard work (not for the faint hearted!)The beach is worth a visit though, its beautiful! There is a bus service that can take you to scarborough, brid and filey but again it is really expensive! On the second day we got got back to the caravan to find a JCB and its driver digging huge trenches around our caravan...this went on till 7pm, it was very noisy and we felt a bit uncomfortable sitting in the caravan with some random guy looking in! We left a day early as we had run out of things to do and had spent alot more than what we had planned to. Im not saying I would rule Haven out altogether but I will not be visiting Reighton sands again, Primrose Valley next door to Reighton sands looks alot better!!!

Avoid at all costs

May 2010, not a happy camper

I booked a last minute weekend break away with my husband and 3 year old son to Reighton Sands. We've never stayed at a caravan site before but had heard such great things about them that we thought we'd give it a try. We looked on line on the Saturday morning and booked a Deluxe static via their phone line. It cost us £169 for two nights which I thought was a lot but as the weather wasn't going to be great I hoped to spend a lot of time using their "fabulous Facilities". On arrival I found the reception staff to be rude and indifferent, we'd been allocated a disabled van as it was the only Deluxe one left, I didn't see this a problem as they said it was bigger than the normal ones. Even though the van was literally round the corner from reception it took us ages to find it as it wasn't numbered right. The van was clean and well stocked, so we unpacked and headed off to explore. The lack of foot paths on the site was a nightmare as I constantly had to pull my son out of the way of cars passing by. Access to the beach was down a long steep path and not really up to much when you got there and then had to face the climb back up. My son was desperate to go in the pool so we went to the centre. I was disgusted by the state of the pool area and there were 4 lifeguards all just sitting around and chatting instead of washing the changing cibicles out as there was thick clumps of hair and mud all over the floor. The " heated" pool was cold and my little boy managed 10 minutes before I had to get him out and dry as he was shaking so much. The beds were very uncomfortable with the springs sticking in you all night. I didn't sleep at all and the loud music from the entertainment centre could be heard till three in the morning. My son was woken frequently in the night by the loud **** heads who passed our van to get to theirs and obviously couldn't care less about other guests who may be trying to sleep. We normally visit Centre Parcs when holidaying in this country but unfortunately they were fully booked, I know my expectations were way to high and as a consequence we were very disappointed and went home after one night. We asked for a refund as we weren't informed when booking it that we would be kept awake by the noise and the first receptionist just bluntly said "We never give refunds" but thankfully another much more helpful lady refunded two thirds of the cost which was some consellation for our wasted weekend. The coast of North Yorkshire is beautiful and we often go to Filey and Scarborough for a day out but if you want to stay somewhere I can highly recommend The Sands appartments in Scarborough. We will never be caravanning again thanks to Reighton.

My husband and 3yr old twin boys booked a last minute 4 night stay over the Easter holidays - Good deal £159 with Haven booked on the morning of the day we arrived.
Caravan was on a steep hill so the front of the caravan was on bricks! Car parking was bad as it was just a mud patch outside the caravan no space to sit outside with the boys - but we did have a lovely view!
Park area needs serious updating! but was okay for our little ones.
Soft play area very small but great when we got there early and just our 2 were inside it :)
They loved the mini tenpin bowling.
Beach is lovely down a very steep hill - great for walking down not so great getting back up it with 2 very tired boys but excellent on the calf muscles!! :-)
The food is very expensive so we didnt eat there BUT there is a local takeaway that delivers to your caravan and their food was delicious and very well priced - the menu was on all caravan doors for new arrivals!
We had a superior caravan which was very very clean and a lovely caravan.
We didnt use the pool so can't comment.
Scarborough was lovely and we spent 2 days down there on the little funfair and the boys loved the speed boat ride with daddy!!
All in all a nice quiet break for 4 nights but would have been dissappointed if we had paid full price - Reighton sands needs a lot of money spent on it.
We normally go to Hafan Y Mor in wales and urge anyone to try that park it is excellent :-)

Well i actually own a caravan on the site. The site have some very strange ideas your not alloud mushrooms with your breakfast unless you pay more money.Last season was great they had lazer zone which was actually really good for the kids and adults.Over the period of 3-4 months they have spent around £1.5 million pounds on the site.If anything nothing has changed at all but they have further plans which sound really good for this year and next. The facilities are normall so all good there the amusments are not as intersting as they used to be but still quite good. Our caravan is superior plus and is brilliant and spacious. I have been on holiday at this caravan park before and it is brilliant. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMEND YOU COME AND STAY HE FOR THE WEEK AS IT IS A BRILLIANT PLACE TO VISIT.
all the other bad reviews are noncence

We have just returned from a weeks stay at Reighton Sands and after reading reviews about this park, we were somewhat nervous about what to expect. On arrival to the park, the reception staff were very helpful and the check-in process very quick. We stayed in a prestige caravan which was very clean and of a high standard. The park was very nice and clean and the staff were very helpful. I have two children under the age of three who enjoyed the pool, play areas and the arcade rides.
Evening entertainment was enough to keep my two year old entertained.. bearing in mind we were in the low season and the entertainment was very basic, my son danced the night away with the funstars happily!
Some of the facilities could do with a lick of paint but overall this park suited the needs of my family and were pleasantly surprised.
Scarborough beautiful and coastal views stunning.
Beach beautiful.. but would recommend the tractor ride as the path is very steep!
Me and my family would definately return to Reighton Sands

Ok, so although this is a Haven site, this is a cheaper Haven site and you can not expect to pay less for this site and get what you do at the neighbouring Blue Dolphin and Primrose Valley sites. The site itself is in a prime location with stunning views towards Filey and up to the cliffs at flamborough. If you are lucky enough to be there when the weather is nice take a walk up to the camping fields and you will get fantastic views of the sunset over Filey and Scarborough. The campsite has direct access to the beach. So it's great to just head down there with the kids and the buckets and spades. It is also a great base for exploring the east coast with loads of places worth visiting within a maximum of a half an hour drive. Brid, Scarborough, Filey, Whitby, Bempton Cliffs. There is also a regular bus service that serves the holiday parks that you can get to these places so you can leave the car there or if you don't have a car you can get about easily enough.
We had booked a week in a Superior caravan which we got at half price for the week for 4 adults and 2 kids. The caravan had everything we needed for a week self catering, and was spacious and comforatable enough.
We arrived not long after 4pm which was the time that we were told we could chek in for. We were checked in within 5 mins and the receptionist was really friendly and helpful.
Ok so the down sides. The place does need a bit of an overhaul. The swimming pool was closed the first time that we went and the poolside was dirty the second time that we went and the toilets didn't work. Our friends went again the next afternoon and their little boy hurt himself in the pool (he stood on an earring that someone had lost which pierced his skin) they reported this to the pool side staff and no one seemed interested. My husband and i had not gone swimming at the same time as we had decided to try to find the soft play area for our toddler. This was laughable. It was a tiny padded square.
To sum up the place is probably better for those that are using it as a touring base. Although they do try there isn't really enough to keep the youngsters entertained for long periods. It's a bit of a shame though as with an overhaul this could be a really nice place.
