" loved it "

After reading so many negative reviews on this park before i went i was starting to dread it. Well all i can say is it was excellent, the caravan was very clean cant fault at all. There was a light out in kitchen but i just put the lamp in there and didnt bother reporting it because it wasnt an issue. Yes our caravan was about 10 mins walk from complex but so what! The only grumble would be the prices but its expected, combat this by taking your own supplies. I was pleased with the price of lager however just under ten pounds for a four pint jug which i thought was good because they could charge more.

" what a dump.... "

Just returned yesterday from primrose valley north yorkshire, and all 11 of us are dissapointed. We booked 2 caravans a prestige and a superior plus for £750. On arrival at 5pm we were given our caravan keys to the prestige and on entering it was a huge dissapointment. Walked into the caravan their was plenty of flies and spiders in each room. Dirty brown carpet with plenty of stains, no nettings on windows just brown dirt stained curtains and a large number of stains in and out of the caravan windows. Cooker, tables and oven where disgusting and filthy. As i was in the prestige caravan we were told are beds would be made and they wornt. The fridge could only fit one bottle of milk in it and it was full, no room to fit anything else in. No remote control and the television was situated so only one person could watch the television. What also made it worse, the prestige caravan was facing the back of the restaurant and clubs and we were plonked right outside facing the bins. We went to check the superior plus caravan and to our surprise was just as bad, tables, cooker beds =filthy. The superior plus caravan was for 4 adults and they decided to stay at this caravan. Travelling 4 hours to this caravan site, none of us where happy and went straight back round to complain to be greeted by such a miserable site manager who is the most unhelpful and non-caring person we have ever met. My sister who had booked the caravan went in to see if we could move to a different caravan, one that didnt look like a shed on wheels. He was having none of it and told us there was no other prestige or platinum caravans available till co-incidently the day we left friday 18th 2009. He told us the only options was to downgrade all 9 of us to a superior plus or even lower. At this time we were at boiling point, exhausted from travelling and trying to sort the situation out. We went to see the superior plus caravan which was absolutely horrific. He wouldnt give us the keys and what we seen from looking into the caravan windows was flies up the walls and windows, just not at all liveable for seven adults and 2 young children. Fuming at this point we all really wanted to go home and asked the "manager" for our money back there and then but told us we had to wait a few days for it to go back in to the bank. The chilren were crying and was really upset at the thought of leaving and we didnt want to ruin their holiday. We decided to take the prestige caravan facing the bins and 2 cleaners came to make the beds. I asked her for any cleaning products and she looked straight at me like i was asking for the crown jewles. She gave me a bottle of asdas own airfresner and i had to go out and buy some window and table cleaner and clean the caravan myself. By the time we arrived at the caravan and dealt with the situation it was 7.30pm and we were tired, angry and went to bed. 9 of us went for a meal at the mash and barrel costing £100 not including drinks, the place was just covered in flies, waited over an hour for the meals and they were all cold, and the flies just put you right off. Cant fault the childrens entertainment but the caravan and the staffs attitude put a whole damper on the week. We had to travel to scarbourough or bridlington to have a day out and for something to eat. The chinese restaurant was nice which is just down the road on the site. What a waste of time and money, never return back to primrose valley, staff are horrible and place is disgusting. Dont even bother going.

Advice: Dont bother going

" Whats happenend to this park "

Just got back from here and truley dissapointed. Booked a 5 unit group holiday a year in advance and still could not got located near each other. Out of the 5 caravans one was okay, one was just about adequate, 2 needed extra cleaning and 1 was outright disgusting, which we were moved to one that was not much better. The desgin of the pubs access needs serious thought, as you have to carry prams up the steps, as the access lift never works. Waited 1 hour for a main meal for 4, then after another hour got our money back as deserts never turned up. Need to watch out for used syringes that my dad had to pick up off the floor and dispose of ,all the dogs that people bring along and all the teenagers that think drinking 2 cans of larger makes them 10 men ( Idiots )
The kids will probably love it, as there is enough for them to do, at an EXTRA cost. I came here initially as a child and as i now have children have visited here several times over the past 6 years. Unfortunately it seems to be getting worse each year, which i beleive is down to bad site management. Someone from Haven please come and rescue it !!!!!

" what a joke "

we booked to stay at primrose valley with sun holiday vouchers and believe me it felt like because we only paid £160 we where put out of the way of everything birch court is just short of 1 mile from the main complex. no playground or anything for my 2 year old grandchild to do theres 1 playground which is near the complex 2 swimming pools which were constantly packed the arcade was good but cost a small fortune the fish and chips were disgusting, the pizzas were good but you can only eat so much pizza we will take him on the fun fair or so we thought 1 ride for a 2 year old which was a train. it strikes me everything on this site is for the older children. there was 2 club houses only 1 was open which was jesters and it was so packed you couldnt even get in there. the burger king was closed for refurnishments. 1 night we decided we would go into the restuarant it was 7.45pm and was told they had stopped doing food, so guess what yet another pizza. as for the caravan well thats was a lot to be desired, caravan not cleaned properly, the curtains were hanging of the rails, stains all over the carpet, the shower didnt work properly, hairs in the plug holes, it was freezing in fact the only form of heating was a gas fire that did not work properly and you can hardley light a gas fire with a small child running around. in fact it was so cold we went to bed in our clothes and got washed and dressed the next morning. we have stayed at a lot of haven sites over the years and believe me this is the worse for to big, nothing for small children. caravans well im glad i didnt pay £900 for it because it was not worth it, so if your thinking of going to primrose valley and have young children dont bother, the only good thing about this site is the staff in the shop they were lovely very polite and helpful.the receptionist could do with putting a smile on her face as well.i could go on but i would run out of space, i will just say primrose valley is a joke.

" great location "

First of all we booked are holiday with the sun news paper and got a 4 person midweek 4 night stay for about £120, any one thinking of paying more than £400(which I have seen them advertised at) for this sort of holiday must be crazy or loaded!
That said the facility's at the park are really good, there are two indoor pools one of which is an activity pool that caters for younger children and toddlers, the other is more like a traditional swimming pool with deeper water and a single flume.
There is a papas pizza and a burger king on site with prices the same or very close to those of the other nationwide franchises. we did not eat at any of the two bars located on site as they were overpriced and we didn't think the food would be fantastic as we have ate at haven run pubs before, we had a meal at the Chinese restaurant that was reasonable priced and very tasty.
The accommodation was only in the standard class but is was clean and modern and everything worked as it should.
All the staff were helpful and polite had no problems with the security even when I forgot my fun works passes on a couple of nights they just let me show them the caravan keys, the bar staff were friendly and let me know of special offers for saving money on drinks etc which were a little overpriced but not two scandalous others holiday sites.
The only two gripes I have are...
The booking in process. all the expensive caravans were processed 15 mins before there allotted booking in time and the standard caravan bookings had to wait till there allotted time(while the staff asked if people wanted to upgrade to a more expensive van so they could be booked in sooner!!).
The fact that all the activity's are so expensive usually about £6 per child and the fun fair and arcade machines/rides are more expensive than those in the surrounding area, as haven are charging you a premium to use there facility's I think this should be offset against the price of using the facility's especially when places like butlins have a free fun fair and cinema.
I have rated the park as a 7 and would return but as stated at the start the price would have to be right because the cost of the facility's has to be added on to the overall price of the holiday.

Advice: weatherspoons in scabourgh gr8 food gr8 price

Activities: the beach just off the campsite is fantastic and so is the one at scabourgh

Good for: Beach

" Primrose Valley - Brilliant "

Just got back from a stay at Primrose Valley and me and my family had a fantastic time. We went at the end of March so out of season and alot quieter than what it would be in the summer!
The park is massive, both of the pools are great for little ones with paddling areas. watch out in the fun pool though as you get splashed every ten mins unless you dodge it!
We stayed in a Platinum van which was excellent.
We only ate once in the Aqua Bar and it was great food. We went here alot as it has the soft play in the corner where kids can go while we sat and had a drink! If i was to say anything it would be that the soft play could have been better for the size of the park.
It has a grand entrance off the main road and the grounds are extremely well kept.
The surrounding areas are beautiful. Filey, Scarborough - plenty to do for everyone.
I dont know how people can say it is an awful park, i deffinatley felt it was of 4-5star quality. If you have problems with your caravan then fair enough but it is a great park in my opinion!!

Advice: lovely!!

" well ok, were do i start with my... "

well ok, were do i start with my xperiance at primrose valley!

firstly this caravan for a week in august cost us £960,00 it was supposed to be a prestige more like a scrap van, ( i would not have let my dog sleep in this van???

1, the heating did not work.
2, we found out that the double bed mattress had been turned over to cover up a bad (soiled) stain that was still fresh!!
3, the plates cutlery ect, were left in the sink still with food items on them also the cokker & microwave had'nt been cleaned?
4, we noticed that the carpet was stained in the lounge & had been attempted to be cleaned but was surely still wet?
5, the toilet was well & truely blocked with tissues & tampax in them.

all this in hand we went to reception to complain, upon getting there we were told that we would have to wait at the back of the checking in que, so we did (72 minutes later) we told the person on reception our matter, & was expecting to get another caravan that was in a better condition or a refund & to be downgraded to a lesser class of caravan well then only to be told that they dont give (refunds) & wont give part payment back & a lower grade of van? they then offered us a silver van as a tempory for that night only untill they sorted out the caravan we booked?? so we looked at the silver van & decided to take purley because of the kids now getting restless & driven for over 6hours to get to primrose valley.

the next day came we went to reception asked if the van was ready & got told no & that they would let us know, to cut it short they never did let us know & we ended up staying the whole duration in this silver caravan.

the food in burger king was either cold or you got the wrong order> papa johns was the same, the fish shop we tried & nearly £18.00 for fish & chips 3 times,, too much??
we did try the mash & barrel or nicknamed the (SMASH & BARREL) again went to the bar order our food & got a drink sat down waited for just under 1 hour & fourty mintues for the food to arrive, & they forgot to bring out a order so we waited another hour for that order to come, this meal cost us £68,00 & the food we did not eat, we found out from a worker that the foods were boil in a bag or zapped in a microwave, even the eggs for the breakfasts they buy in bags frozen then microwave them, we asked why & the worker said that it was a health & saftey issue that they COULD not cook eggs from fresh??? how silly???

again we complained only to be told by a young manager in his 20s that we did not have to eat there butwe choose too? how RUDE this boy was!!

we did complain to the md personal assistant the next day & was told to send a complaint in writing to head office. (which we did)

my experiance of this park was bad & i will say that primrose valleys managers & such are (perthetic & its a badley managed site) nearly all the staff are rude or just so damm thick!!!! well what do you get when you pay peanuts???? MONKEYS!!!!

NOTE 1 GOOD PLACE TO EAT IS A WELL KNOW CAFE CALLED (PRIMROSE DINER) THIS IS ON THE BEACH ROAD OPPERSITE THE CHINESE REASTURANT, I BELEIVE THAT THIS IS NOT OWNED BY HAVEN & THE FOOD & SERVICE WAS BY ALL MEANS GREAT, THE PRICE AS WELL WAS FANTASIC, WE ONLY FOUND THIS CAFE ON OUR 2ND TO LAST DAY AT PRIMROSE VALLEY BUT WE DECIDED TO EAT THERE FOR ALL OUR MEALS, & WE FOUND OUT THAT THEY DO A DELIVERY SERVICE AS WELL. BRILL??

if our experiance has alerted other people & they too have been mistreated by haven then do make your point very clear!!

We have just returned from a brilliant week at primrose valley. The caravan was great for standered we expected it to be worse after reading a lot of the reviews. The staff were friendly and helpful. The campsite was clean. The only bad thing was the food in the fish and chip shop we took one look at the food and walked back out again it looked like it had been there for a few days.My kids loved the swimming pool. were looking forward to going back next year

" We have just returned from a week at... "

We have just returned from a week at Primrose Valley. We stayed in a Prestige caravan which was situated in Lake View a quiet cul-de-sac. It was about a 10 minute walk to the main complex and a good 15-20 minute walk to the beach. Lake View is quite close to the funfair, tennis courts etc and I would think during peak season it could get noisy in the evening, but I'm pleased to say the park was fairly quiet. My only minor complaint would be that the swimming pool was alittle on the cool side for my 16 months old little boy, but they have lots of fun activities in the pool area to keep them entertained.

The weather has been great and we've visited, Playdale Farm Park, Sealife Centre, Filey Bird and Animal Centre and spent days on the beach. All in all had a great time and would definitely visit the site again.

" We booked superior plus and the... "

We booked superior plus and the caravan we got was nothing short of disgusting and was a fair way from the entertainment complex. We complained and were moved. The second one was a little better but not worth the money we paid. There were people who paid less in better caravans and locations. We usually stay at Hafan Ye Mor and have never had a problem there, we always get what we pay for!! The security staff in the funworks complex namely Steven Walker, were extremely rude. I was stopped and my bags searched FIVE times during my stay. I complained after the first time as i was stopped for taking in crisps for my children and was given no choice but to throw them in the bin. There is a sign clearly stating no food or drink in the complex yet people were taking in burger king, pizzas, fish and chips amongst other items and they were allowed. It is either one way or the other. If you allow the above items then they should be listed on the sign and untill they are no food or drink means exactly that and stop making your own rules up as you go along.I found it was more of a 'if your face fits' set up as far as the security staff went. As i had complained and demanded a public apology from Steven Walker i was then targeted by him and other security staff everytime i entered the complex. I found this treatment unfair as it was no longer a 'random' check as i was constantly being told, it was harrasment!! My holiday was spoilt, had it have not been for my children and upsetting them we would have returned home.
The security staff should concentrate their efforts on doing their job and actually securing the main gates to prevent unwanted people entering not complaining over a few bags of crisps. I found the fact that no one being checked at the gates and the entrances to the site were open to everyone very un-nerving. I have four young children and the thought that there could have been un welcome guests roaming around the park terrified me. Primrose Valley is a poorly managed and maintained park and as it is meant to be a FIVE STAR flagship site, the management and it's staff should hang their heads in shame.
I also checked the paperwork that was in the caravan i stayed in. Now, bearing in mind i stayed in AUGUST 2008, the gas and electric service certificate clearly states that the last check was carried out in DECEMBER 2006. What happened to the check that should have been carried out in 2007???? The list of complaints i had about the service i received and the park and caravans goes on. I will not be staying at this site again and i am currently compiling lengthly letters of complaint including pictures to be sent to the relevent parties.!!!!

" well what can i say this park was... "

well what can i say this park was kept immaculate, the staff when we spoke to them were lovely, there was activities for all ages throughout the day we have a five year old and she loved it.
the funstars get all the children involved in the jesters bar which is children orientated with the zoo troop and professor schloops show.
the only complaint i have is we paid for the haven park passes which cost £82.00 and the funfair on site was not included on the passes the rides cost £2.00 and above and also the synthetic ice rink was £4.00 for 30mins which when you go to an haven park whether private or not everything should be covered on the park passes if you go to any butlins park everything is included.
but apart from that we all had a really good time and will more than likely return.

" If this is a Flagship park I would... "

If this is a Flagship park I would hate to see the rest. Web info says flat it is anything but floods when it rains closely packed caravans on unmade roads. I booked a disabled accessible caravan that had a 4-5 inch step into the caravan queried it with reception and was told tough. Caravan was prestiege standard and only a year old but very well used the grill did not work we were promised a toaster it never arrived tv picture was appaling sink taps hanging off in the end got fed up with asking them to fix things and gave up. We never got the toaster or the taps fixed. BUt the worst for us has to be the inaccessability of the site my daughter uses a power chair not a manual and it doesnt like climbing kerbs. There is a distinct lack of them. Disabled access to the pool was through a door which was consistently locked parts of complex was not accessible. The play park was not accessible so my daughter could not go with her brothers as she can at other sites. we were constanly woke up at 8am by one workman or another. The site was untidy and run down away from the main road in and complex. In all would never go back will not book Haven again and I am glad to be back home and not wallowing in MUD!

" We have just returned from Primrose... "

We have just returned from Primrose Valley and doubt we will ever return again. We booked superior plus as we are a family of 8 and thts the best caravan for 8 ppl. However the caravan was cold damp and full of mildew. The shower was full of it the curtains were full of it even the walls had mildew on.
We complained about the dirty curtains and they were taken down but we were left without for a night, meaning my 2 girls had to sleep on full view to passers by. When i complained (again) the following morning i was told i would get them back. However when they were replaced they were still warm as they had only just been dried.
I hated my 10 wk old baby having to sleep in such filth and squaler especially due to the fact the price they charge. i have complained to haven but as yet have had no response.
