beautiful camping pitch.... and thats...

Jun 2008, Miss R Owen

beautiful camping pitch.... and thats where the compliments end, disgusting food, rude staff, dirty dark toilets ( paid £10 for a key, to toilets that were never locked, or cleaned!!).

just returned from a weekend at Blue Dolphin, after moving away from our much enjoyed Reighton Sands, all i can say is glad to be home,
ive checked the holiday reviews to make sure i wasn't being overpicky and the general consensus that the hour long waith for fish and chips, cooked by a man who 5 mins earlier had fixed the toilets, (still wearing same outfit) not even sure if he washed his hands, is not acceptable by anyone..
dont even bother with the pool, safe capacity must be about 30, the staff counted at least 100 and still allowed more in. no room to move. mixed changing rooms, although the doors did not lock and the 10 changing rooms were apalling.
i would never go back to blue dolphin and hope to discourage anyone who's thinking of going there. 2 lovely sites down the road, Primrose Valley and Reighton sands.
im about to begin my complaint letter to the park, but judging by the other reviews, the complaint will fall on deaf ears and i wont hold my breath for a response.

Just returned from Blue Dolphin and...

May 2008, Mrs C Williams

Just returned from Blue Dolphin and truely what a disgusting site.We have been to two other Haven parks previous and were impressed with them but this site was a mess.As we checked into the touring reception(as we had paid for a tent pitch) we were told to follow the road past the skips. This road had a derelict caravan abandoned on the side of the road and the site was very full so we were in the middle of the field. There were 8 portaloos in the centre of the field which were covered in urine and litter and overflowing with poo. There was no toilet roll or running water in these toilets and clothes and feet got covered in human waste when entering.Very noisy at night on site and bins overflowing all over the field and not emptied at all the whole time we were there.Swimming pool not very good about a metre deep all around and slide was dry so you had to drag yourself down it half way down. This is a central park and good for touring but would not return here in fear of catching a disease.

Our first and last visit. We took our six year old grandson for a weekend break chose this site for the things he could do!!!
Absolutly nothing for his age and no staff in site to ask if they would organise anything.
Site untidy.
Toilets either blocked or over flowig. The floor always covered in water.
Food was reasonable but restaurant dirty.
The whole site is totally run down and not welcoming.
Maybe Haven should shut this site and start again!!!

A great site with lots of facilities...

May 2008, Mr M.R. Waterson

A great site with lots of facilities for children. Didn't use the restaurant or bars so can't comment on these, although we did go to the 6.30 kids show which our 3 year old loved. We ate at an excellent pub about a mile north of the camp on the main road which served reasonably priced typical pub grub and offered an outdoor and indoor (upstairs) play area for the young ones.
Didn't use the swimming pool due to illness but if you do use the indoor pool frequently the one at the Haven Primrose Valley site where we went last year looks much better, however the Blue Dolphin has a much better indoor play area for the kids so take your choice !
Prestige caravan with central heating was excellent, it seems that the lower grade caravans get all the complaints.
We are planning to return later in the year for a short break, overall we were very pleased with the site.

Just came home from a weekend camping...

May 2008, G Murtha

Just came home from a weekend camping at the blue dolphin holiday park. Not a very good start.
Firstly when we arrived we went to main site, which has not got a main reception , so we were looking around for someone to tell us where we check in,and when we found someone they told us we could not check in til 2.30 when our letter did say 12.00 when we told them we were camping they told us fine just wait til 2.30 in bar with everyone else. Little did we know that we were only waiting in the caravan check in and were eventually told to go to the touring reception.
When at the reception for touring we were given our pitch and told to pay ten pound deposit for one key for the toilet block when there was two of us.
Toilet block was not very clean, toilets were blocked ,showers only trickled water if they were busy. If you are thinking of going her make sure you always carry spare tiolet paper as went to main complex and not one toilet had any toilet roll what so ever.
NOT A VERY GOOD SITE FOR HAVEN , SHODDY COMPLEX NEEDS UPDATING !!

WOULD NOT GO TO THIS PARK EVER AGAIN....
1 / 10
Apr 2008, Mr N M Mcsherry

WOULD NOT GO TO THIS PARK EVER AGAIN. We booked a short weekend break (thank god we did not have to stay there longer). We have been to primrose valley a few times and really enjoyed it, so we thought we would try blue dolphin for a change. What a mistake the place is so tatty and run down not like the other haven parks we have been too. At the time we went, there where about 12 rugby tours on the site and I did not fill my kids where safe in the parks as large gangs of kids roamed the place. There was also trouble in the family bar with some drunks on the last night.
I would have to say it felt like I was staying on a run down housing estate. The standard of caravan must be at least 2 standards below other sites, we had a superior and it could not have even been rented as a basic else where. The kettle leaked (lucky it was me that got burnt and not my kids), half the lights did not work, most of the handles on the doors where missing and the furniture and carpet where rotten.
The entertainment was very poor compared to other sites and most of it was aimed at getting more cash from your wallet. The best joke of the weekend was with a man who had a gold caravan who told me he had an Amstrad TV set and we realized they had stopped making them 20 years ago.
We did dare eat there once; I was really surprised that I felt ok the next day. As it was the worst meal I have ever paid for. The best food I found on site was the burger king. As for the swimming pool it was very tatty and the water is only a few inches deep. They do have a slide but the kids seem to get stuck half way down and have to bounce down the last half.
All in all not what I have come to expect from haven. I really hope they are going to do some thing about this park in the near
Future as it really lets them down.

We booked 2 standard tent pitches...

Apr 2008, Miss N Robson

We booked 2 standard tent pitches there was plenty of space & could choose where we wanted to pitch which we liked, booking in very easy & staff helpful & pleasant. Our group had 4 children aged from 1 year to 14 years every 1 of them enjoyed it & found there was more than enough to do as it rained all weekend. Facilities were all clean ( swimming pool changing room floor a bit grubby but what do you expect when muddy shoes aren't always removed before entry as the staff request!) Food outlets very reasonable & food was nice. The site was big & they had a great dog walk field & a coastal walk with a fantastic view of the cliffs. I would recommend this site to friends we had a fab time!

Apr 2008, Mrs N Jackson

this was my 2nd and definitely my last visit to blue dolphin. i swore i would never go to this site again, however family in scotland rang to say they had booked a week in filey and would we like to join them - GREAT - till they said where they had booked my initial reaction was - have you already paid - unfortunately they had - swallowed my pride and agreed to book and join them hoping that last years experience was a one off !! i booked a superior plus 2 bed caravan in the hope that it couldnt be any worse than last years van - ok the van was bigger and better but had still not seen a cleaner probably since the end of last season - the booking in system is a joke you que in the cabaret bar like animals for ages get given van key site pass ( passes totally pointless) and a site map then sent off into the unknown to find your van - best part of 20 mins driving round the huge confusing site - you then have to unload the car whilst trying to not get mud inside the van - impossible the site slopes and the ground was like a ploughed field.
the bar and restaurant are so expensive - £8 for 3 drinks - the meals over priced and inedible - ate there once and never again - the site just wants to make money from you at every corner - games machine everywhere - 3 kids £10 lasted 3 minites!!!!!!!!! you do the maths for 5 days stay - thank god for flamingo, filey , brid n scarboro.
indoor pool ? mmmmmm not deep enough to swim in over crowded no control from life guards - unbelievable.
go karts , boats, rides ( when open ) cost money again. closed bars when they wanted - we had just sat down 1 night with our drinks to be told the bar was closing and we would have to move to the cabaret bar - we moved back to the van - obviously a quiet drink is not an option - we had 3 young children and a 9 week baby.
you need a sense of humour and a lot of patience to stay on this site - alternatively take plenty of prozac and make sure you book for counselling on your return home - my son loves to see the haven adverts on telly and couldnt understand why blue dolphin wasnt in his words " like the telly " - thank god this week wasnt our main holiday this year - will never ever go there again - family in scotland will let me do the booking next time!!!!!!!!!

Good Points: A really good place to...

Mar 2008, Mrs J Kilbourne

Good Points: A really good place to take young children in the later part of the year as there is plenty of indoor activities on site. We have 2 boys of 3 and 5 that hardly stopped to breathe for a whole week.
Bad Points: Swimming pool and swimming changing area could be bigger, it seemed that once 20 people were in that it was at its full capacity, that is really the only gripe.
General comments: We have previously been having holidays at primrose valley park just up the road and usually visit Blue Dolphin while we are there, we decided for a change that we would try staying there this October half term. On visiting it doesn't appear to have a great deal there but we were surprised to find that there was as much to keep the kids entertained here as at larger parks, with the addition of the fun palace which is ideal this time of year for young kids. The kids also loved the daytime entertainment as well as the evening. After reading the reviews I can't see why people aren't happy, I booked a reasonably priced family holiday that would keep my kids happy and thats what I got, agreeably the food and drinks are a little more costly than is normal but anybody that has done this kind of holiday once or twice should be prepared for that. We eat in as much as possible and don't really drink as we are on a "family holiday", not a grown up party where we take the kids because we have to ... I have no complaints and as we have done since becoming a family, will continue to use haven for many more years to come. Can I also say that the fun stars had huge amounts of time for all the kids they were entertaining, as the levels of this does vary sometimes but they were great and I am now home with 2 very happy but very tired boys. The accommodation was fine also, there was one or two things that required fixing but it was owned privately and nothing that affected us, it had everything we needed and was certainly not sub standard.

I can't understand all the bad...

I can't understand all the bad reviews people have given the Blue Dolphin; I visited this October half term with my family and parents and was really pleased with the park. Our accommodation was clean and well equipped, we stayed in a 4 star caravan and that's just what we got.
The park is very clean and well maintained, the shop although it was the end of the season was still found to be well stocked, the staff we also found around the park very accommodating.
The views around the area were spectacular, I have been to Filey and Scarborough a million times but I have never seen the coastline look as beautiful as it did at the Blue Dolphin.
I would definitely stay there again and my parents are all ready thinking of booking for next year.
Thank you once again Haven!
