we stayed at golden sands in october 2010 half term week it was awful first we had to queue in the bar for keys but when we got there we had to go to reception then after an hour we had our keys the caravan was filthy and damp we went to reception on a number of occasions to get them to look at it but they said until we left we would not be listened to they offered a measly £20 in vouchers i refused then they sent someone to the caravan with them i told them to come in and look at the caravan within 10 minutes we had been moved to somewhere a lot cleaner although still as muddy the only 2 members of staff that were helpful on this trip were these 2 ladies who helped us move it put us off however my daughter wanted to take me away for mothers day this year so reluctantly i said id go to golden sands from the moment we entered the site it was different the friendly security guard directing us where to park. the swift service in reception (even though the young man who checked us in said it was his first day )the lovely clean caravan the helpful staff on the phone when we couldnt light the fire the staff in the restaurant asked if things were ok for us the staff in there were all really nice and proffesional an asset to haven we stayed on the 16th of march until the 19th and i wish we could have stayed longer the kids entertainment was good and my 3 and 2 year old grandsons loved it they keep saying "we go seaside holidays see rory and bradley"(the characters from the entertainment) the shop was well stocked food on the park was well cooked and reasonably priced but the pizza fast food outlet was very expensive all in all well done for the massive improvements made in the last 16 months i would go back tomorrow if work commitments allowed

holiday nightmare!!

was not happy when i seen the caravan as it was surposed to be superior new model, but got there and it was filthy, cold, damp and small and nothing that was advertised in the brochure.after getting back from a night out went to put the bed down in the lounge of the caravan to find out that it was a single bed, bearing in mind there was 4 adults and 1 infant,it should of fitted up to 6 people but it only fitted 5 people, the bed was not a sofa a bed but a piece of ply wood that was not strong, and it was hard and uncomfortable, did not get a good nights sleep through the lack of space, next day went to complain, was 10 mins early then a rude member of the security staff told us to go back to caravan as we could not wait outside till they opened, after that we finally got into reception and the woman behinf the counter was really nice and said that we were given the wrong caravan as we needed a double sofa bed, well anyway we were told we would have to move, the new caravan was a bit better but the sofa bed was still ply wood and there was still lack of space and the floors were filthy and the cups and they did not leave a mop with the bucket.the outside was atrocious and the steps were a hazard aswell as they were not put on a proper floor but a concrete slab which left a big step.and the caravan was not a new model as it was at least 8 years old,i was not happy as it was a waste of our 2 day holiday i would not recommend this site,if u want a good holiday go to hopton holiday park 5 stars for that park.

Great Park for kids

We booked through The Sun Haven Holiday Promotion and upgraded to luxury plus which was equivelant to a Delux style caravan. when we arrived we were greated by helpful reception staff and were given the keys and entertainment passes. We were pleasantly suprised when we drove up to the caravan as it looked very well presented from the outside, however when we entered although first impressions were good, after a closer look the caravan was not as clean as we would expect. The floor had clearly not been swept or hoovered as there was a large mat in the living area which was on an angle and when i straightened it up there was an ear ring and two hair clips under it along with sweet papers near the sofa and sugar puffs under the table. The kitchen benches were sticky and had not been touched with a cloth. The furniture was dusty and kitchen cupboards were dirty. The beds had been changed and the bathrooms were clean which was most important as you can imagin so we did not complain but we did leave comments for the reception to note. The park itself was great and lots for young children to enjoy, great fairground rides, and amusements. The swimming pool is a little on the small side and had a small flume for older children. Was nothing in the pool for young children as there is at other haven sites. The funstars and entertainers were great and the entertainment venue was really good with good shows for all ages. Food is average but you can get a really good cavery/meal at a pub called The Beck which is just down the road. Overall we wer pleased with our haven holiday its just a shame the cleaners dont have longer to clean the vans as some of them could be really nice with a good clean. PS - the soft play area is good for younger ones but could do with a good clean and refurb as it is looking a bit run down! we would definately go back. Lovely beachs at mablethorpe and surrounding areas!

flashing life guards and stagnant water walkers

Aug 2011, lisadavidson

went in august to golden sands. on arrival staff were helpful and gave us good directions to our caravan. we had paid for a prestige caravan new for 2011 they said. it was very standard. not bad, but standard. basic, with not enough kitchen appliances to actually cook so we had to go and buy our own can opener, wooden spoons, oven gloves etc.
cleaned to a very basic standard.
outside was littered with fag ends. the knobs on the cooker was broken, they came out to repair it quickly but it soon broke again so we gave up.
the bar staff were more interested in talking amongst themselves than serving hence the queue being so long in the restaurant. food was nice though when we got it.
we asked for £30 cash back at the bar and the barmaid forgot to give it us (she was 10 mins late off her shift cos she was moaning about it) so the manager had to count the till up to then check we weren't lying.
swimming pools were both warm, busy but it was school hols- so i was even more disturbed to see the lifeguard with his bits out, door wide open in the UNISEX toilet with kids everywhere!!
my son went in the water walkers which he loved but i couldnt take my eyes off the water, which can't be cleaned cos that water is green with algae and must have all manner for swamp life living in it.
the shows were good but u would have to get there very early for a seat. i think the camp site is too big for the facilities .
the play centre was littered in rubbish too, a shame cos it's go good equiptment.
overall u can have a good time here, but it's very poorly managed and the staff look as if they haven't had a pay rise in 20years they're so miserable.
i think haven should seriously consider looking at who they are employing to manage this site. i mean, how hard is it to change water in a paddling pool and explain to lifeguards they need to lock toilet doors behind them??

  • Advice: get there early to see the shows. and take turns going to the bar so u don't miss it all.

A really good family destination, we're going back next month it was so good. We have 3 quite young children (aged 3 months to 6 years) and everything was set up around the family. The caravan was great, the entertainment excellent, the beaches nearby are fantastic. There appear to be some people who will find fault with anything, for example, we always wash the dishes when we arrive, whether we're staying at a caravan or apartment, not because they're ever dirty, but it's just what you do, if we found a dirty cup we'd just wash it, not march down the reception demanding a refund. This park is lovely, the staff were great, there's a little funfair for the kids, it's not expensive, if you have young children it's a no brainer. Lots of really nice families appear to agree with us, it's just great.

Hi just got back from golden sands yesterday and having read all the poor reviews I wanted to say it how it is !!!! I found the caravan very clean and spacious we had a delux one it cost 200 for a 3 bedroom which let's face it is an absolute bargain of a holiday, I will say that when I go again I will upgrade purely for extra heating in the bedrooms but you expect that camping. Staff were all fantastic and they have a lot of idiots to put up with, I find if you are polite to people they are generally polite back, unfortunately alot of the holiday makers are the politest of people , and I witnessed this on many occasions so felt the staff do well to put up with it. My son loved the pool and all of the rides ect.... And in the evening the entertainment is great for the kiddies. My honest opinion without wanting to sound snobby is that the park itself along with staff is great, but with it being so cheap there are a percentage of horrible holiday makers that need avoiding which I may add is easily done but unfortunately the poor staff members can't avoid them like I did

this place clearly hasnt improved much since being on watchdog last november we had the mis fortune to holiday here in october and from start it was a disaster we were sent by a member of staff to check in wrong place then queued for nearly an hour to get keys to a caravan that was damp missing equipment and was filthy despite having cleaners out to clean it was clearly unsuitable for an 8 month baby and a two year old whose birthday it was during our holiday out holiday was supposed to be a treat for my grandson it was awful he ended up at the medical centre and on antibiotics as i did myself never again will i brave golden sands holiday park im sure there are nicer sites in mablethorpe like trusville holiday village while being basic it was always clean and staff always cared for the holiday makers went out of there way to make a good holiday the only redeeming thing to haven at golden sands were the wonderful cleaner who said she wouldnt put her children in our caravan and got us moved to one she had cleaned which was immaculate this didnt improve the othrer thingd on site like the leaky roof in the childrens play area the hour and a half wait for food in the so called restaurant dont go to golden sands

Great Break

Jun 2011, neen

Greeted at 8pm on arrival at reception by smiling staff member. Reception easy to find, loads of signs. Showery weekend with great entertainment, excellent beach, patient staff in gift shop, helpful maintenance staff. We just wanted a short break from treadmill and we got it. Caravan was an older one but still in excellent condition. Pool was packed even in off peak season so glad we didn't visit in peak season. Would have been impressed with bigger pool.

We stayed for a long bank holiday weekend. the weather wasnt very good, but we still found lots to do. The park was very well maintained. Security was good my 3 year old grandaughter ran out of the door and she got stopped until we got to her. There was plenty of activaties for the kids and great evening entertainment. Beach acces was good and regular transport to town center. I would definatly go again.

Nightmare!!!

Iwould recommend fellow holiday makers 2 avoid this site. When we arrived at 5pm there was no meet and greet i had 2 go running around 2 find reception only being told by staff its through there pointin in the direction of the arcade. When we got inside the caravan we dropped our things off and went out we were back within 2 hours as the entertainment was useless i would liken the "pantos" to school plays.the next day before we could eat i had 2 wash all the pots they were filty i could not see out of the windows 4 grime there was a cushion under the double bed wet from a urine stained as well the matress had mould on it abd the bathroom omg!!!there were pubic hairs in the shower the toilet was broken and the sink filthy i had 2 use my sisters washing facilities as she was on the same site the stools were so dirty u couldnt even see the pattern on them.My niece took my son and nephew swimming and my nephew came back vomiting he was hospitalised and vomited a total of 16 times so we came home on thurs deciding enuff was enuff. frmo the takeaway chip shop i was given raw sausages since commin home my husband ,myself and my children have all ad sickness bugs . I suggest the park needs a radical overhaul im so upset and disappointed as this was my 1 and only holiday this year tahnks for nothing haven .
