Deluxe Caravan???? I think NOT!!

We have just come back from Combe Haven, and I can honestly say after visiting 3 other Haven sites and 1 park resorts site(twice) this has got to be the WORST CARAVAN i have ever stayed in!! My parents booked a deluxe caravan for 6 of us to stay in (4 adults & 2 children) for their ruby wedding anniversary.
On arrival we discovered that:-
The front door stuck.
Whenever you used the washbasin in the toilet it leaked out of the bottom of the caravan and all over the toilet floor.
And the sofas were still dirty from the previous people.
We went up to reception to report our findings, and also ask if it was definately a deluxe, because i for one wasn't convinced as it looked no different to the standard one's we had stayed in in the past, we were assured that yes it was (well all i can say is if the one we had was a deluxe i would hate to see a standard).
A cleaner turned up within about 10 mins (very apologetic) and she said she would again log our comment about the leak, however up until we left this evening no maintainence person had turned up to fix the leak.
Oh also the tv only produced a picture when it felt like it.
We found mould in the fridge.
A babys nappy in the pull out bed in the lounge.
And I nearly fell through one of the sofas as it was broken.
It may sound like I am a moaning old cow, but I can assure you i'm not. I am normally a laid back person who hardly ever complains, which is why my family and I just decided not too complain and carry on and enjoy the holiday the best we could. I will however be writing to Haven in the next couple of days.
On a more positive note the park is clean, the food is nice and the SPAR shop is resonably priced and well stocked. We only went to see the evening entertainment for one night, but found it to be really good.
I would however warn you there are a lot of steep hills to climb around the site so bear that in mind before visiting.

I would recomend this hotel to anyone who wants to go to the dominican, i have 3 teenagers the ages that they were when we went were 16,15,14 they had a brilliant time as well as me and my fiance. The beach was beautiful and the water was very clear my children had a good time swimming in the sea, there is also watersports that you can do on the beach for a small amount of money although its well worth it and the staff are happy to make sure that you are safe. Around the pool the staff have activites for all ages weather its darts, water polo or surfing in the pool (all will become clear if you chose this resort). The food was very nice there was a variety for everyone dishes included (rice, pasta, pizza, fish, chicken, pork and beef) they also have a wide selection of dishes for breakfast these include waffles, bacon, omelette, sausages, beans and egg. No one that we travelled with had food posioning. The Bar was very good in serving drinks you didnt have to wait very long to be served and all of the staff were friendly. My girls loved the entertainment at night this is because the entertainment staff made all of them very welcome all of them spoke english so there werent any communication problems, the entertainment staff played pool with the girls and table football. The room was lovely wouldnt say that anything was wrong with it. The only problem that we came across was when we went to the mall that was only a 5 minute walk down the road, many people tried to sell us houses in the domincian also when me and my children went to a club just down the road my daughters had a lot of attention from Domican males. All in all this has been the best trip ive ever been on!!!

Hi there, my mom came down from Birmigham last June for 2 weeks with us in Eastbourne, and we decided to have a weekend away at Combe haven st leonards on sea, just from Friday until Monday morning, you get thrown out of the caravan, i asked for a caravan not on a hill or a slope, not once did they email before i booked and tell me there were on slopes. My mom has had a stroke, and i suffer with chronic pain. It not cheap either, mom gave to us has a Easter gift, bloody expensive egg i would say too. The problem was when we arrived we walked in to find the beds hadnt been maid up, she said its next upgrade for that, i said well last year we had the same at Church farm, never mind, that wasnt the problem, there were ants everywhere, its a beautiful sunny and warm day makes a change,NO WINDOWS were opened, so no one gives a stuff really, the fridge i would have thrown away, the stink was awful, we went to reception, they didnt even look at us to speak to me, they just carried on talking, she said i will send someone down, i said no you wont, i will have my money back, then they gave us a OWNERS CARAVAN, we put Josh paddling pool out got a hole in it, they put us right by a fence, and ANYONE COULD WALK THROUGH, my son was 5, they didnt care, i told reception, the cleaners came around they were more caring then anyone else,i wrote to headoffice lots of times, and i got a letter saying i will take £40.00 off your bill, because we have gone back to Church Farm in Chichester, where we should have gone in the 1st place, its flat there, and we like it. We picked the other one because it was up the road, and not a lot of driving for us, as my hubby drives everyday, when they gave us the money they said thats it no MORE LETTERS, i said i would like my letter answered, this is the one i sent out before you gave me the money,no one has. I CANT BELIEVE IT, HOW THEY TREAT PEOPLE, I ALWAYS SAY IF YOU DONT LIKE YOUR JOB, GET OUT OF IT,I AM THEY TYPE OF PERSON, PUT A SMILE ON YOUR FACE, AND TRY AND HELP PEOPLE AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. not COMBE HAVEN.

We have never had a Haven holiday before but i have always taken cleaning products on caravaning holidays. This is the first holiday i have ever left them in the cuboard the caravan was EXCELLENT i was so pleased it was a 3 bed caravan and was just under 6mths old immaculately kept, had real sofa's , a flat screen TV and even free sat installed. The appliances were as new too.
The camp itself was immaculately kept and when my son cut his finger on a coke can left out by the people in the accomodation in front of us they immediately sent a team out to clean up any litter left behind. The gardeners were out daily we felt that everyone was friendly , the Children enjoyed the free clubs. The pool was very clean and the staff seemed to be cleaning it daily and even the outside of the building and the slides were cleaned every day. The food was a little expensive but we expected that with the convinience of it being on site, the on site Spar shop was reasonably priced and the drinks at the bar were average prices.
We will be returning to this camp soon and i cant wait to enjoy the facilities again. Big thumbs up for Haven i am so impressed.
Only draw back i can find is there are quite a few old delapitated caravans on the camp which would be dissapointing to stay in. We stayed in the best accomodation they offer.

May 2011, Mum of 2

We chose Combe Haven due to a special offer found on the haven website. It was for a superior caravan which I upgraded for an extra £20.00 to get a 2011 model. I had booked it before reading the reviews and I must admit I was a little worried. On arrival the check in staff were efficient and very friendly. Once we found our caravan, WOW is all I can say. It was brand new and very luxurious. It had 3 bedrooms, all heated and was immaculate. Yes the site is a bit hilly, and our walk to the entertainment complex was a bit of a trek in the evening especially with a pushchair but theres not much that can be done about the hills in Hastings.
The live lounge entertainment room looks like it has undergone fairly recent renovation as it was very modern and all the seating was clean comfortable and well laid out. The funstars team was full of the usual Haven enthusiasm as were a thoroughly nice bunch. The visiting acts wasn't the best in the world but nothing cringeworthy. The bar staff were always very pleasant and service was swift. Overall our evenings were very enjoyable. My only gripe would be that the air con was a bit high as I did find it pretty cold.
We only ate once in the mash and barrell which was the thursday carvery and we found that pleasant but the beef was pretty tough. Again the decor in there was fresh, clean and modern. Free wifi too is a bonus.
The indoor swimming pool was just the right temperature and was all clean. The changing rooms were lovely and large to accommodate changing with the children without standing in a pool of water. The outdoor pool wasnt open when we went so I cannot comment which was a pity as the space bowl looked good fun.
The spar shop there was well stocked and opened until 10pm which was nice. Also great to have a Burger King on site as well as Papa Johns.
Overall as you may have guessed by now we had a fantastic time and would definitely recommend it.

Have just returned from a 4 day break at Combe Haven, I was a bit worried as had read a lot of bad reviews, however I was pleasantly surprised. We were upgraded to a 3 bedroom instead of 2 on arrival. The caravan was absolutely spotless and the living area was very spacious. The kitchen was very well equipped with every utensil you could need, it also had a small freezer and a microwave. Although small the bedrooms all had ample wardrobe and cupboard space and had heaters in all the rooms. The site itself was very clean and well looked after and we had no trouble with noise from other people.
My husband and I went with my daughter and her children age 2 and 7. They were very well catered for with kids clubs and party dances and shows in the evening ( not too late )I think it might be harder with older children -over 12 as a lot of the shows were directed at the younger age range.
We went on a sun holiday so it was really good value for money and we would go again

Luxury Upgrade! No Way

Apr 2011, Disappointed

We paid extra as part of the Sun deal to have a luxury upgrade - it wasn't a luxury caravan at all. Cold and basic described it perfectly. The pillows were as thin as a pancake! The hill to the main complex is STEEP - no wonder they called before to warn of such!
The swimming pool was crammed with people during the limited access times. There were LOADS of un-supervised children on the site and when we asked them politely to move their game of football from outside our van as our children were going to bed - they just continued.
We left early...very disappointed. Worst Sun holiday to date.

Fantastic Time and Excellent Customer Service at Combe Haven

DON'T BELIEVE THE REVIEWS EXPERIENCE IT FOR YOURSELF!.
We booked for a week from 2/4/11 in October 2010. We regularly stay at Haven Parks and have always had great experiences. We hadn't been to Sussex to booked Combe Haven for 7 nights, we booked a 2 bed Prestige 2011 model( Combe Haven don't do Platinum at present)we always go for the highest range available so that the van will be newer and have heating etc.
I was very worried after booking when I saw some of the reviews on this site and tripadvisor. Because of this I emailed the customer service manager at the Park. SHe was brilliant and explained that alot of issues raised re cleaning, customer service from previous years had been addressed - new systems, etc. She did however take my concerns seriously as she promised to monitor our booking personally and true to her word a week before we visited I got a call from her deputy to talk through our booking some of the requests we had made and explained about the park layout etc. This really set the sccene for the service throughout the holiday.
We arrived almost an hour early but were able to check in. Our van was in the newly landscaped valley view x area, you can't park next to the van but there is a clean well lit parking area only a few yards from the vans so a minor in convenience of a walk from car to van wasn't a problem. We had waht I can only describe as the cleanest smartest van we have ever had in 11 years of Haven parks ( and that includes the Exclusive models) I think in other parks this van would have been a Platinum so we really got a good deal paying only £250 for 7 nights.
The park has clearly had alot of work done, I can understand some of the comments from other reviewers - it is hilly - we weren't affected because of where we were- but not so bad as described by others.
The park was very clean, we saw lots of staff going round tidying up and picking litter and work was ongoing on some landscaping areas.
Some other reviewers talked about landfill - and yes I can understand in previous years it may have been an issue - it is however covered in completely with grass growing over - no smell at all.
The pool is lovely and big, too early for outdoor but its looks really appealing. Changing rooms looked like they had been refurbished - VERY CLEAN, lockers which work took £1 but unlike other parks you get this back. Toilets very clean. The pool and changing areas were lovely and warm. Pool staff very friendly and helpful.
The live lounge has a great atmosphere. Again very clean, complex toilets were clean and new too.
It was early in season and some of funstars were in the first few weeks so finding their feet but all very friendly, shows etc. very good.
There is so much to see in the area and having had such a good time we will definately be going back again.

Came here on the Sun £9.50 holiday deal but paid extra for upgrades. our 'upgraded' caravan was really no different to a standard. Wasnt overly clean someone elses short and curlys in the bathroom ! something smeared over the walls and what looked liked a blood stain on one of the sheets !
we were put in the dirtiest darkest corner of the park and had a nice run down building too look at. (20 lower woodside) there wasnt enough space to get our travel cot put up and my 1 year old couldnt sleep in the single beds so she ended up sleeping in our tiny double bed.
The caravan was meant to have a toaster and microwave which it didnt, the grill didnt work. one fire alarm was missing and there was a massive chip in the flooring,...not to mention SOOO cold. I have never been so cold in my life ! we had 1 small gas fire which i didnt feel was safe to leave on all night.
there wasnt enough for todlers to do there, after 2 days i was bored and had a good look at the map to find a indoor soft play area, there are no signs for this etc, after getting there its the smallest soft play area ever.
we didnt get to use the pool cause the only time there was for babies was at 8am for half an hour thats too early to get her up adn sorted as most parents would know !!
hastings itself was lovely we really enjoyed our days out at the beach but we didnt like the haven park and left early !!

I arrived on Septmeber the 13 Th 2010 and was expecting a great holiday as this was my fifth time to this haven park and boy was I wrong!! We waited nearly 2 hours for our caravan keys, and when we started to unpack I could not believe what I was seeing,
Pure grime and dirt all over the kitchen and bathroom roller blinds looked like blood!
Under the lounge seats there was dirty sheets covered in what I could only say was human faeces I thought this was some sort of joke!
Cobwebs everywhere and dirty marks all over the walls
The bins outside were overflowing with rubbish and attracting wasps all the windows would not close properly leaving at least a 1 inch gap so wasps were getting in I found around 25 dead ones in the caravan!
My son was only 4 months old I was fuming with the state of this so called holiday home I had to pay 236 pound for this dump of a caravan.
So I took over 15 picks on my digital camera a took it to show the park manager were she didn't even seemed bothered when she looked through them I thought it was unbelievable, they said they could not do a instant refund So they moved me to a different caravan which was average! nothing special.
I could not believe it took watchdog to embarrass them on national television before they got there act together and brought in this new no quibble refund facility on all sites from 2011 I wonder if that is true!!
All I can say is each to there own but it was the worst holiday I had experienced and will never return to the Hastings park! It was a joke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had a lovely holiday here

Myself, my husband and our 2yr old son stayed at Combe Haven for 4 nights in September. We were not expecting too much as a previous park had not impressed us that much but we were pleasantly suprised. On arrival the park was nice looking and clean, and our caravan was lovely, in great condition and roomy enough (we had upgraded to a deluxe van) .
We had a mixed bag of weather and on the good weather days we enjoyed spending time in Hastings old town, the beach was lovely our little boy loved chucking stones and we visited the Hastings aquarium which was also appreciated by our little one!(we enjoyed it too!)
On the sunny evenings we really enjoyed having a drink on the decking outside the Mash and Barrel- we ate there a couple of times and the food was fairly good, standard pub fayre.
On the rainy day we used the pool which was nice, very clean and not too cold! We went to the arranged childrens entertainment which our boy was not impressed by but alot of the other children seemed to enjoy, but he did love the penny machines in the arcade!
Oh, and the childrens playground is really nice, was a bit muddy after the rainy day, and it took us ages to find it!
The sports bar was a bit rubbish and needs updating but we only went there once.
All in all we had a lovely week here and would return.
