Devon Cliffs Holiday Park reviews

problem solving issues

May 2012, jenny t

Having taken many holidays in the Uk without fault, this year I decided to try Havens Devon Cliffs, on arrival all seemed good, although the caravan we had rented was rather damp, he decided to make the best of it, but sadly my young grandson suffered hot tar on his hands, which had escaped from a railway sleeper being used as a wall. how did Haven deal with this. that was bad enough, but the handling of our complaint was a disgrace, it is obviouse from experience that Haven do not deal with complaints very well, and nothing has changed since the watchdog report, so bookers beware

Very Noisy at Night

The accomadion that we stayed in was good. Large kitchen/diner. 3 small but adequate bedrooms. Walls were really thin and snorers did land me on the sofa several times! I love the site, so close to the beach and the swimming pool was great for my kids aged 2 and 4. My 4 year old enjoyed the archery and fencing classes. We didn't eat out but dinner took sooo long with the oven in our caravan! The thing that really put us off coming here again, is the fact that we were in Juniper which is just across the road from the complex. On arrival I asked if this was going to be a quiet location, I was assured it was. As we have two young children we would have prefered to have had an option to be in a quiter location. The music and compere went on until 1 or 2am and we were all really tired to enjoy the following day. This really made life difficult for us as it was sooo loud! All in all a lovely site but bring ear plugs if you are in Juniper!

My family and I (husband and two boys aged 5 and 8) have just returned form a 7 day holiday.
On arrival we were greeted by a friendly security man who directed us to the reception area, however as we had a "private" hire caravan we just went straight to it.
The site is HUGE and very hilly. This must be taken into account if there are any movement restrictions within your party. They do have parking by the main entertainment complex if you are unable to walk to it.
The facilities onsite are excellent. There is a large spar which stocks a good range of items, but it is expensive and so I would advise bringing food/items from home and just using this for milk, bread etc. It does have a cash point here that charges, however cash-back can be obtained at the Mash "N" Barrel or spar shop.
There is also a fun shop next to it which has all of the Haven merchandise in - pin badges, toys etc. It also sells beach wear eg swimsuits, goggles, beach shoes. My husband brought a pair of beach shoes and they were £6.99.
Next to that is a large Starbucks with seating inside and out.
Opposite is the main complex. Reception was well staffed, pleasant and helpful. To enter the complex the Haven passes have to be shown. The complex is on two floors. Enter at the arcade level and go up the escalator/stairs/lift to the Mash N Barrel restaurant. Bugsys is also on this floor.
We ate in the Mash everyday. The food was excellent. Price wise I felt it was on par with other restaurant chains but they did offer a 25% discount if eating between 12-5pm. We had the carvery on the Sunday and it was far better that expected. The staff were also plentiful and again very pleasant. There is a large outdoor seating area for those hot days with a smoking area. The restaurant itself was bright and airy.
Opposite was Bugsy. This was were the kids entertainment was held. My boys enjoyed the activities laid on.
The swimming pool was amazing. There is a Millies cookies seating area in the entrance for those who don't want to swim and also further seating at the far end of the pool. I would recommend slip-on shoes for a trip to the pool as outdoor shoes have to be removed a the entrance to the changing area so dirt is not walked in - however the staff were constantly cleaning the floors to maintain the high standard.
There were plenty of changing cubicals and lockers. The lockers take £1 coin but this is refundable. The lockers are not huge so two may be needed.
The swimming pool is large and warm - this may be helped by the intermittent glass roof allowing the sun rays through. There are two smaller slides with a lifeguard at each and a large 4 lane bumpy slide - again manned by a lifeguard. In the shallow end is the play area with further mini slides.
Outside there is an Adventure Golf - we didn't have ago as my boys chose to go on the trampoline (£5) and water walkers (£6). There is also a small outdoor playing area.
We took a walk down to the beach. It was a lovely walk and there is a carpark near the walkway for those unable to walk far. HOWEVER - it must be noted that it is an extremely steep slope down to the beach but I did see electric scooters and wheelchairs managing this. It would be impossible to push a manual chair up the slope,
They are still building at the top of the slope and once finished I think it will be lovely - cafe, playarea etc. The cafe and shop were open and again were expensive but that's what you pay for convenience. We were far longer at the beach than expected and so I did use the shop and again found the staff very helpful.
The beach was great!! It was sandy and clean. There were large rocks for climbing on. There is no shade so take an umbrella.
I cant comment on the caravans as we had a private hire van.
Haven tend to have at least one day where there are not may activities on and so we went to Crealy Adventure Park which was 20 minutes away. It is a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities so ideal for a changeable weather day.
Overall we had a fantastic time. We have been to other Haven sites - primarily Primrose Valley but this was the best of the lot.
Will hopefully return next year!

Great facilities and staff

My wife and I took our 3 energetic grandchildren (aged 9, 8 and 6) for a weekend break in August to Haven's Devon Cliffs Holiday Park. The location was excellent, with a nice beach, and safe sea. The caravan was spacious and clean. However, it was the facilities and staff that blew us away. There was so much for the children to do that the famous "I'm bored" was never mentioned. We took the opportunity to book the children's activities in advance, and this made it cheaper. The young staff were polite, enthusiastic and looked as if they were enjoying themselves. Special praise goes to the guys who ran the activities in the pool - they really got involved with the youngsters, and our grandchildren had a fantastic time. The size of the indoor and outdoor pools made you feel that you weren't cramped, and the slides were really great. Plenty of places to get a variety of good quality food and drink at a reasonable price. We will definitely be back next summer.

Can't fault a great break :)

We are a family of four, two children 5 & 3. Booked two days prior to travelling for a three night break, yet despite the relatively short period of time, all administration occured without mishap. Booked a 'Platinium' caravan which - although we secured what appeared to be a substantially discounted price - we considered was worth every penny of the upgrade premium; the 'van was immaculately kept and the facilities / accomodation inside were so good that we 'ate in' every meal (saved a few pennies in the process). The view from the front window / terrace was basically the sea (with Torbay in the distance) which was very pleasant to live with.
The beach was great for the kids to explore (although it was lucky that they enjoyed walking through the dense mass of seaweed to get to water / rockpools), and the sand proved perfect for building castles!
The pool was the main draw for the kids. Changing facilities were superb for families, and obviously recently the recipient of heavy investment / overhaul (?). The pool itself proved perfect for our kids, although I can imagine older children soon becoming tired of the somewhat tame slides (although didn't venture outside, so not sure what was on offer there?).
Entertainment? Well we only experienced the early (18:00-20:00) kids stuff, but they certainly thoroughly enjoyed that. And I didn't have any issue at £3:30ish a pint - seems about the norm in my local pubs.
All staff we encountered throughout our stay were friendly and helpful...so to conclude, would recommend to others without hesitation.

We stayed at Devon Cliffs for short break of 4 Nights.
The last time we had a holiday their was in 1968. Like most people we then started going aboard. My Daughter save the tokens with the sun paper. Well we had such a wonderful time. The caravan was spotless, the grounds, the pool, the attraction was brilliant. My granddaughter was so impress this is a must for next year. She told her Mum and Dad she do not want to go aboard again. If you are just a couple or have a family please try this holiday park i know you will have a wonderful time. When i told them my husband was disabled they done every thing they could to help. One very very happy holiday maker

Caravan very good, clean and tidy (Booked Prestige) we had plenty of parking, and situated close to complex, so can't complain about walking too much.
Beds very uncomfortable, pillows rubbish. Oven very poor, took over 1 hour to cook chips on full heat. Walls very thin in caravan, could here each other snore during night.
We went in September, outdoor pool was shut for the winter apparently. Bit of a joke, still a busy period, pool should have been open. Indoor pool OK for younger kids, good slides, but for size of Park pool is really quite small. No space to swim, and not deep enough either. Changing rooms clean and new.
Complex - arcades OK, quite big and OK priced. Hard to win anything on grabber machines, very poor. The toilet set up is completely rubbish, and shows a total lack of thought and brain power by management. If your in the bar/entertainment halls (Capones/bugsy's) and you need the toilet, you ahve to walk out of the hall, through the arcade, up the stairs (or down) then into toilet. Very long walk for older holiday makers or people with disabilities. Why there are no loo's in the bars themselves is just ridiculous. Bar staff OK, most friendly and helpful. Prices just a bit more than pub prices. Seating fills up quickly. Entertainment OK, but for size of Park and number of people, could be alot better. Funstars special 'Never Forget' show is laughable. In my opinion it was bad, but probably good for younger kids and people that don't get out much. Some bits funny and good, main singer was great, but other didn't really do much.
However funstars game shows and competitions were funny and good entertainment.
Mash and Barrell OK, food average pub grub, Prices slightly high for quality. Looks really nice inside, they've done well with this.
Sports courts OK, but not big enough for size of Park. Mini golf, absolute rubbish. Looks good, but design rubbish. Very hard to keep in the pitch, again shows lack of thought and brain power from management.
All in all, had fun, cheap holiday, nice clean park. Good for kids, families. But lacks refinement and real enjoyment that you should get from Haven's top Park. Investment in Park can be seen, but they really haven't got a clue how best to spend it obviously. Probably wouldn't go again.

Superb holiday with alot for the kiddies!Bit of a problem when we got there as we payed for the best caravan on site and we got a little dirty caravan, we went to reception and we payed £100 for to upgrade AGAIN , the caravan we got moved to with the upgrade was superb!Highest view on site and near enough to the complex , only thing i would say is that the site is the hilly'st place i have ever been! Think we lost weight rather than gained:)! The mash and barrel is superb and the slides in the pools and outside slide AND a massive outdoor HEATED pool was thee bomb:)All in all great holiday:)!,definatly recommend !.x

Arrived at park on the 20/08/11 for 7 days we booked with Newmans not Haven, van was so clean, we were able to see the van before we went able to choose the one we wanted.Would not book with Haven only Newmans, cheaper and vans so clean. Site was very good for children of all ages, did not like if you wanted to see any shows you had to queue up about 2 hours before shows are to start!! (what a joke!!!) Food is very poor not enough choice. Security was very good always checking for passes, andy was excellent for security. In the mash & barrel the staff serving in the bar are a joke they never smile, so rude you would never think you are on holiday when you are in there!!! Charles behind the bar is so not prince charles, he so needs to go on a customer care course!!! Oh happy days!!!

Aug 2011, miles-family

we had a great time at Haven Devon cliffs
very clean caravan in a very quite part of the camp site about 5 min walk from the main complex.
food was very good and the indoor pool was nice and warm.
the parking on site is very limited so i would book a caravan with parking.
nearly all platinum caravans on the site have parking even thow there web site say NO private parking.
It's not a camp site for people how dont like walking.
