We have just returned home after a wonderful holiday at doniford bay, im writing this as ive just read lots of comments about how bad peoples holidays were and thought my comments maybe helpful. Firstly we did pay for a 2011 caravan a extra £5 per night this was worth the money we were situated right at the front with the views over the sea the caravan was spotless, on the first and second night our daughter was terribly sick and the staff couldnt of been more helpful producing clean bedding for both nights without any trouble they also asked if she needed a doctor they showed care and compassion, the swimming pool was lovely and warm the children loved it and we did purchase a activity pass it cost £30 for six activitys which the children shared this was well worth the money. I can not comment on the restaurant or cafe as we took our own food and did not eat out on the park. This holiday is a childrens holiday as the entertainment in the evening is clearly for children We did find the bar expensive. we loved the surrounding area we went to dunster castle, lynmouth cliff water lift, exmoor, minehead steam railway, i would recommend the days out. The staff on doniford bay were all very friendly and helpful, i hope my review will help doniford bays poor reviews.

  • Advice: we spent two days on the park then went out for days out, other wise you will run out of activitys to do on the park

Hi, just got back yesterday from Donniford bay and had a fantastic time. There was 5 of us and we couldn't find a fault with the place it was so beautiful and staff were really friendly! Picked up mother of pearl pieces on the beach and explored surrounding areas. Loved Dunster and visisted Cheddar on the way home, the only bad part was coming home.
We're planning to go back soon, this is the kind of resort that makes you want to buy a caravan there to stay yearly!

booked to stay for 5 days but just managed the one night!the caravan was very basic ie remotes sellotaped up and not working, grafitti on the walls stains all over the carpet but the worst thing was the fact that the caravan smelt of dirty wet dogs!!!!
the caravan was also freezing and requested extra blankets at 9am in the morning for that evening and was told that this would be done and at 11pm at night still no blankets, it was totally unsuitable for kids they were sat on there bed shivering. couldnot sleep in the living area where the beds were as the dog smell made us feel sick and totally un acceptable, again informed reception and again nothing was done so at 11.30 pm on our second night we left this tip!!!
i will sat that the public areas were acceptable and some places were lovely, but the reception staff were pathetic.this place is a dog park, and i wasnt told on booking that the accommodation was used for dogs to stay in.
never ever again!

  • Advice: to be aware that there is limited things to do and everything in the park is extra costs apart from the pool

Plenty for young children to do and the funstars kept them well entertained. the caravan was a three bedroom and was clean and had all the facilities we needed. was abit cold in ther night. The clubhouse had lovely food was very expensive for drinks tho and the spar was expensive .

said at doniford bay att the end of march beginning of april. the evening entertsinment staff were very rude all aprt from 1 (DEWI) the bar staff and leisure staff were all lovely to. we stayed there for four night and found the day time entertainment boring. our caravan we freezing had to sleep with 3 blankets on. it was kept clean and tidy but u have to avoid dog poop. i would say go here if you are able to entertain your self other wise its not for you. i went with my husband and 5 children 15 10 6 3 and 4 months the 3 year old and 6 year old enjoyed it the older two hated it

i would not let my kids go swimming as the pool area etc was filthy.
and when my husband and i had a coffee while waiting to check in this was given to us in dirty chipped mugs so there was no way we would have eaten in the restaurant.

My husband and I have just arrived home from a weekend at Donniford Bay Holiday Park. As we were only going to spend the weekend there we decided I would have a break from cooking and that we would eat out at the site - well were we disapointed!!!!! Our first morning we arrived at the cafe at 11.20 to find all the ingrediants of a full english breakfast swimming in grease, but as we were hungry we thought ok we can soak up the grease with a serviette - what a performance tho' after about 3 minutes of waiting at servery a young girl finally turned up, we asked for a breakfast and she replied "oh can you go and ask that lady over there if you can because it's 11.34" I went over to this lady - I imagine she was some sort of supervisor and she started going on about how she didn't realise the time but she would let us have something.
The fish and chip bar is disgusting and the food is vile!! My husband waited 45 minutes on Saturday night to be served. This is not the fault of the staff, the young man was serving at two windows. We should learned from the mistake we made on our first night when we had fish and chips, we ended up throwing most of them away, we said we thought the chips must have been made a couple of days ago and reheated as they were like leather.
On Sunday my grandson and his dad came to visit us on Sunday we all decided to have an ice-cream, we waited at the ice-cream counter in the cafe finally a young man walked passed us to go and clean tables - I asked him if he could serve us, he said he didn't know what to do so he called a girl who was sweeping the decking outside, she came in very reluctantly asked us what we wanted and proceeded to pick up an cornet out of a box with her bare hands having not washed them or put gloves on !!!!!
She put a scoop of ice-cream into the cornet, my grandson ask if she had any chocolate flakes she mumbled something and turned to some counter in the corner where my son-in-law saw her drop the ice-cream out of the cornet on to the dirty counter pick it up and put it back in, upon that we walked out, very disgusted.
As for the site shop, well what can I say?? Disorganised, badly laid out, no choice, very expensive, the only good thing was it sold newspapers.
Finally the accomodation, initially we were thrilled with it, we were in a lovely van in a lovely spot at the edge of the park, (but this was only because we had paid extra for an upgrade). This is not the first Holiday Park we have been on so we did have some expectations such as a toilet roll, washing up liquid just litle things like that - I think it's called a welcome pack, but there where non so we had to go and buy them at the awful SPAR shop. There was no itinerary in the van as with previous vans we have stayed in, the light in the hallway didn't work, the bedside lamp in one of the single rooms didn't work, there were only two teaspoons. No instructions with the boiler, luckily my husband has some plumbing experience and was able to work out the controls, even tho' there were no markings or discriptions on the dials.
We will never go to any Haven holiday park again, because they obviously don't care about their customers, all they seem to be interested in is selling you a caravan on their site - I don't think so!!!!!!!

No spare key for our chalet

Just arrived back from Doniford Bay resort. Accommodation left alot to be desired, as we had one of the shabby, dated chalets that could have been mistaken for the old pre fab houses built after the war for families who lost their homes. We accidently locked ourselves out of our chalet so went straight to reception to see if they could give us a spare key. They told us that they did not have a spare key for our particular chalet - number 83. They didn't give any particular reason for this. Instead the receptionist [ who needs to do a course on customer communication and skills ] said that we would have to pay £25 to get inside the chalet again, as the locks would have to be changed. After refusing this lovely invitation the receptionist told us that if we had a window open we could climb through it, but we would have to pay for any damages. After paying £600 for a one week stay ...I don't think so!! On over hearing this ridiculous conversation a very happy to help, courteous maintenance worker gave us access to our chalet with his spare key, and told us that all they want is to make extra money, and not having any spare keys was ridiculous. We just found it a little odd that a family resort such as this would not have any spare keys for incidents such as this. Apart from this silly fiasco, place quite clean but looked grubby as everything was so dated. Entertainment ok to a point, but it was rather cheesy at times !! The breakfast we had one morning in the cafe was the same standard as a motorway cafe. When we picked up our knives and forks from the trays we had to wipe them with serviettes as they still had the ramains of the breakfast eaten from the last people!! Most staff courteous and polite though and the bar and cafe staff DID work hard at trying to please the customers...to please their bosses.

Terrible! Do not eat in the cafe/grill!

We have just arrived home EARLY from what was meant to be a seven night break at Doniford Bay and it was just terrible!
On our first day we arrived after a very long journey to damp and smelly ''deluxe'' caravan. the beds had not been made up and there were no sheets, no glasses - only mugs and no real ammentities at all. The blankets were all stained and smelly and the paint was coming off the walls, units and table!
As we went with another couple i.e no kids! We did expect some children entertainment, some, not all night, every night!!! I felt sorry for any mums and dads looking for a break or kids-free zone because there was none the place closed up by 11pm! and as for the food.....DO NOT EAT IN THE CAFE/GRILL my fiance and I both had a dish with gravy and vomitted for 5 hours through the night!! and we had no alcohol that night!!
The park was 20mins away from any civilisation so we had to pay 24 pound in taxi's just to have a few drinks and decent food!
We paid nearly 1000 pound for this caravan for seven nights (mon-mon) but sadly by fri we HAD to come home we were so bored! Sadly it hasnt even felt like a holiday, extremeley dissapointed!
Of course if you have children this is a fab place to go! Although it is very quiet and out of the way from things! So if your a young couple looking for a quiet but fun place dont bother, try Butlins, Minehead down the road!

  • Advice: Great for kids but not for mums and dads needing a break!
