Comments:  we went to hafen y mor haven site on the 11th August 2008 in our own caravan. I was not looking forward to going after reading the reviews. The touring site was dreadful! Looked like an old car park converted (sort of!) No proper pitches or drainage so when it rained - and it rained!! - pitches were flooded and left in a mess. The toilet block was a portacabin, and not a very clean one! That was horrible.
The actual camp was in need of a clean and a lick of paint, but on the whole not too bad. The swimming pool was excellent and the crazy golf course was the best one i have seen. The clubs were dirty and full of arcade machines which eat money. Everything cost extra - go karts £4 = boats £9 for half an hour - golf £12 for a family of 4 but i expected that before i went as other reviews had warned us. Mum was a never ending bank! But the kids had a ball. They loved it, and if they are happy, adults are happy! I would not go back, ever to any Haven site as i think they are all the same, but the holiday wasnt a total wash out, i managed to stay for nearly 2 weeks, came home 2 days early, but more due to the weather than anything. Wales was beautiful, stunning scenery and some lovely places to visit, loved Llandudno. Wales is worth a visit but use a different campsite!

Comments:  After reading the reviews i was dreading staying in the accomadation i had booked, ive been before but stayed in a silver caravan in 2004, this time i was staying in standard appartment and the reviews were really bad. Booking in, there was a long queue, but was given our passes and keys quickly, As we entered our accomadation it did smell but nothing a bottle of bleach and febreze did nt sort out, we had clean bedding left for us and the duvets were clean. Fair enough the cleaners should clean the appartments to a higher standard and use a feather duster as i had a cobweb in the toilet. The appartment was spacious but basic. The day after we arrived i noticed black dog hairs on the carpet i went to customer services and they came and sorted it out. The facilities on site are excellent our 13 yr old 11 yr old and 9 yr old absolutly loved it and have begged me to book again next year, which i am going to do and in the same accomadation armed with my bleach and febreze,i loved the space we had which you don t really get in a caravan. The swimming pool was packed but it was not cold at all, like i read in some of the reviews, in fact it was boiling, i really enjoyed it. The night entertainment was excellent and the host at the show bar was for both adults and children which was good, did nt really go in the others. The views from the beach were loverly, and if you walk round the cliffs towards pwllheli there is a beach which is better than the beach at hafon y mor. I must admit most of activitys during the day are expensive the rope works was 20 pound for 1hr 45 the go karts were 5 pound, they had trampolines at 3 pound a time, and they had pedal boats which was 10 pound a hour. All in all me and my family had a excellent time at hafon y mor and will be coming again next year, this haven camp is the best one ive stayed on and i have been to quite a few in england and wales.

Comments:  They sell you a Rolls Royce which turns out when you arrive to be a Scoda. Standard and cleanliness of the comfort accommodation is very poor , loose taps, window handle fell off, stains on furniture and bad smells are just a few examples.Moved from first accommodation but second one no better. This accommodation wasnot cheap £800.
When u complain the attitude from management is if you are not happy then leave. No refund is offered. Beware a painting is not always what it appears to be there are a lot of fakes around. This park just wants your money and nothing else. Speel promotes Great family get togethers and they look forward to seeing you that is until you complain and they want you out. Promote a High level of comfort and value for money - if sitting on heavily soiled furniture with taps and window handles falling off surrounded by unusual smell is high level comfort and value for money then I will sell my house for a hole in the ground that people urinate in. Enjoy

Comments:  Have recently visited Hafan Y Mor with my partner, 6 year old Daughter and 10 year old niece. Cannot comment much on accommodation as we privately booked a caravan through a friend which was immaculate, accommodation around the park look maintained and suitable but we did not get to view inside these. as for the facilities on the camp, there is so much to do. If you have young or teenage children, there is something for everyone. There are 3 bars on the camp which all cater for children earlier in the evening, the Showbar is open til late and the children can stay with you and join in the games, the entertainment by Richard lavell was fantastic. A lot of the Bar Staff are foreign and struggle with the communication side of things but its not a big deal and you get what you want, albeit with a wait!! We were paying £10 for a 4 pint pitcher of Cider or Lager. The swimming pool is great and the chidrens park. Food is expensive on the camp if there is a few of you you are looking at nearly £25 for 2 adults and children to have fish and chips, however we took most our food with us and the caravans had sufficient facilities to cook. The on site supermarkets are more expensive then your home supermarkets but only by 10/20p an item, there is an asda less than 5 minutes from the camp!! the local beaches are beautiful and I have to say the Funstars do everything to keep the kids entertained day /night so you can relax and enjoy the holiday. Would definately visit again x

Comments:  After booking via haven in September 2007 i looked all around the internet for reviews of what my what my holiday may be like- and it was not looking good!

i booked a TWO BEDROOM PRESTIGE caravan for me and my parter what used to be known as gold, it cost £310 for a week, after reading bad reviews i was not looking forward to it.

hafan y mor is somewhere i used to go when i was younger when it was butlins so i decided to go back to relive some memories.

CHECK IN
we arrived on Friday 13th june at 2.20pm-check in is a 2.30, we was welcomed by very friendly staff and was checked in less than 3 minutes. PERFECT

ACCOMDATION

arrived at the caravan number 4 cader idris view which is a perfect part of the park as it is right near the shops, clubs, golf, burger king swimming and lots more.........

the caravan was only two months old as was very clean inside and out- small setbacks with a broken fridge and dvd but got sorted within 20 minutes so very happy.

only bad points is that the cooking equipment in the caravan was not up to standard, so we struggled as a couple to cook so would be very hard for a family-BUT do not let this put you off-THE PARK IS PERFECT-,loads to do, very clean, safe, KIDS WOULD LOVE IT!

THINGS TO DO

In the park- clean and large swimming baths, three clubs- one leaves alot to be desired and needs alot of work but the other two are great
very large arcades-small bowling-pool, kids sports zone, all weather pitch and park, two essential shops what sells everything, burger king, all you can eat pizza and pasta bar, lakeside inn offering meals like brewers fayre which we thought was okay, not fantastic but worth your money, two very large gift shops which are great to look around. a boating lake and more..........

it was 25 degrees when we was there so we went to the beach which is beautiful, the sea very clean and there are miles and miles of beach and countrysides to walk across and the views are spectacular! Pwllheli town is 5 miles away with a asda, co op and small but ok market on a wednesday.

WOULD GO BACK IN A HEARTBEAT -LOVED IT !!!

Comments:  Worth it for the view of the bay and mountains alone.
Accomodation...dirty on the outside (clearly lived in by some aggrieved holiday makers before) but relatively clean. One problem...walls paper thin and this is not good when your bed is next to next door's toilet flushing very half an hour...you can hear everything (I'll let you the reader fills the gaps here).

Food...yes, it was OK. Don't expect to lose weight when you are there though.

Entertainment...great for the kids...little or nothing for adults which was a disappointment. Swimming pool was great but very busy.

Bars...OK...not overly priced. But annoyingly always given pound coins instead of fivers (when there were notes in the till). A ploy I suspect to get us all to load the amusement arcades...clever but a little underhand.

People...staff were very happy to help. Other holidaymakers...let's be honest...you will not meet the Beckhams here. I'll say no more.

If you are unable to tolerate then forget it...if you can be prepared to then an affordable and enjoyable holiday awaits.

Comments:  I would advise anyone wishing to stay at this park to ensure that they do not book a half board holiday. The chalet we stayed in was a 'comfort', middle of the range - damp, smelly, in need of a good clean (windows were that dirty you could hardly see out of them; dead flies in all the lights and the remainder of a conditioner left in the shower) - it would probably be a better idea to knock them down and start again!!

We took our granddaughter with us and arranged to have a bed guard due to her age - nearly 2. The bed guard was useless. The beds were that high that it was dangerous to even consider putting her in one. We asked for an upgrade, but informed that was not possible. We decided that the only solution was to move the beds out of her room and put a mattress on the floor for her to sleep on.

The food was tasteless and served with no decorum - just thrown on your plate and choice was limited - especially the sweets. For 2 days on the trot there was carrot cake, jam roly poly (spot the jam) and ice cream.

The site itself is very nice with plenty to do for children over the age of 5. Personally, I would not return. Hope anyone who has booked after us has a better time.

Comments:  Just returned from Hafan Y mor there seems to be a shortage of caravans and they are trying to fill up their crappy appartments, If you have booked check before you travel I wish we had. Below is a letter of complaint sent to Haven

Dear sir

I am writing to express my disgust at the way we were treated during our recent holiday to Hyfan Y Mor which I booked and paid for in November 2007.

We arrived at the park and booked in, when we arrived at our accommodation we thought there must have been some mistake, we had booked a prestige caravan and we had the key to an apartment.

I went straight back to reception as we did not want to stay in an apartment we wanted what we had booked. I was advised that there were no caravans available there had been a fire and this was the reason there were no caravans.

We then had a look round the apartment and If we had not have been traveling for so long we would have turned round and gone straight home. I went back to reception once more to express my concerns and was advised once again that there were no caravans available but there may be one available on Monday so we could transfer to the caravan then. I also asked why we had not been informed that there was no caravan available before we traveled but was informed that “We haven’t had time to contact everyone, I wish we had the time” THIS IS ABSOLUTLY DISCUSTING THAT NO ONE COULD BE BOTHERED TO CONTACT US OR INFORM US THAT THERE HAD BEEN A CHANGE OF PLAN WHEN WE BOOKED IN.

It was getting late by this point and our two children were getting irritable so we decided we had no choice but to stay and hope we could swap for a caravan on Monday.

Monday arrived and once again I went to reception, and was informed once again that there were no prestige caravans, I enquired if there were any caravans at all, there wasn’t.

We agreed to stay on in the apartment but advised reception there were several things that needed sorting if we were going to stay there any longer. No problem we were informed, “I will get our customer services manager to meet you at the apartment”. Twenty minutes later a cleaner arrived with a bucket! We told her the problems listed below.

1. The smell was unbearable, stale smoke in the lounge and kitchen area.
2. The kid’s bedroom door would not shut, this made it impossible for us to relax and watch TV in the evenings when the kids had gone to bed.
3. The front door had a gap all the way round the edge; due to the sea front location it was impossible to keep warm.
4. The front downstairs window glass was loose, the high winds caused this to rattle and let in more drafts.
5. Back bedroom window too stiff to open.
6. Fans in bathroom and Kitchen make constant banging noise even when not in use.
7. The double bed was extremely uncomfortable.

She went away, nothing happened for 24 hours, then on Tuesday the customer services manager knocked on our door. We went through the problems with her again. We were advised that one solution to solve the above problems would be to downgrade; I honestly thought the lady was joking as I thought we were already staying in the lowest grade of accommodation so we declined.

When we returned to our apartment on Tuesday tea time a new mattress had been delivered and placed on top of the original one, the bed had not been remade, everything that was on the bed and the bedding had been dumped in the kids bedroom. The back bedroom window had also been fixed.

None of the other problems were fixed during our stay which is disgraceful.

During our stay we were curious to find out where we should have been staying, we asked several members of staff who we met and not one of them knew anything about a fire. Considering the number of guests that we spoke to who were in the same situation as us it must have been an enormous blaze. Not only have we been let down we have been blatantly lied to.

Considering the way we have been treated and the appalling service we have received I have no alternative but to demand a full refund.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Comments:  Hello everyone; just thorght I would share my experience at Haven with you all, see the letter below for information, I will update the site with comments when I get a reply, all I would advise to anyone reading this is to ring up before you go and make sure you have the accomodation you have booked.

I think that I was well and truely fobbed off.

Comments:  This is the 5th time we have been to Hafan y Mor and once again it met our expectations. We booked a Prestige caravan and I got in touch before we arrived to request a particular area of the park and also a van with central heating. Prestige has heating in all rooms but some models have central heating. We got exactly our request - which has in the mian been our experience on all Haven sites where if you request something they will as far as possible try to meet it.
When wearrived we were checked in at reception in less than 5 minutes and found our caravan to be absolutely spotless.
The evening entertainment in the Showbar wasn't as good as we'd experienced before at the start of the week, which the venue compere acknowledged several times, however later in the week this picked up with some excellent bands and as always the compere and funstars kept the audience going. The showbar itself was a little cold - however it was particularly cold outside in the evenings so not Haven's fault!
The splashzone is going through a bit of a make over with family changing, although as a previous comment said they are a little small for a larger family, however I understand that further work is planned so this may be resolved. One criticism was that there were no toilets in this area!!
There is alot of work going on in the central area of the park, however Haven have this well contained and it causes no disruption and no mess. The new development due for completion later in the season looks great.
The area itself has lots to offer, castles, trains, beaches with the park being an ideal location for getting around.

Comments:  We have just returned from Hafan Y Mor and I felt I had to write a review of the place as this was the first place I looked AFTER booking the break! To be honest because of the reviews I had read i had mixed feelings of what I was to expect.
This was the first time I had ever been away in the UK ( I normally get as far as Manchester airport!!) and was not expecting great things. My husband and two children ( 3 & 2) set off on Good Friday for the journey to Hafan Y Mor. We took the scenic route, mainly to avoid the bank holiday traffic, and had the most wonderful views all the way, simply breathtaking.

On arrival we parked where we were told to and were directed to "The Boardwalk" to check in. We got there to be told check in had closed ( it was 5.15pm) so we asked where we were to go and were pointed in the direction of reception, where we had just walked from! Now don't get me wrong it is not that far but we are talking "arctic weather conditions" with wo young children. The queue in reception didn't look that long and I was thinking "great, the reviews I read said the queues for check in were very long" . The queue might not of been long but my goodness slow is not the word, I have absolutely no idea why some people were taking 15 minutes to check in, as I took literally 30 seconds!

We had booked superior plus self catering and we were in the snowdonia view area of the park. I was a bit worried that this was a bit too close to the centre but was relieved we didn't have far to walk as the weather was absolutely freezing cold, stormy and wet!The caravan itself was a very pleasant surprise.Very clean with what looked like a brand new shower, kitchen units and carpet.

The first night must have been the coldest night this year, thank goodness i had taken extra duvets for all of us plus fleece all in ones for the children ( no heating in the bedrooms or bathroom/toilet!). We had the fire in the lounge on constantly and even resorted to turning the oven and hobs on when we were in the lounge area just to get some extra warmth. Needless to say the very next morning we drove to the nearest town to buy a fan heater which did the trick very nicely.

Now,the reason I have scored the overall rating 6. The whole reason I chose this resort over a smaller independently owned site is because of the splashzone. Knowing British weather cannot be relied upon I wanted somewhere indoors that we could have some family fun. After sorting the heating out we excitedly walked into the splash zone which I wrongly presumed would be "tropical temperatures" like many indoor swimming complexes are. We were directed to the family changing area which comfortably fitted in 1 adult and 1 toddler ,certainly not a family! I commented to my husband how cold it felt and said that surely this wasn't where you got changed when you came out of the swimming pool. We managed to find two lockers, holding on to two freezing toddlers this was not an easy task and made our way to the pools. The pools/ slides were fine but I have never ever been anywhere so cold in my entire life. After 10 minutes of trying to smile through it and pretend to our children this was fun my two year olds lips were blue and this is absolutely NO exaggeration. I became quite worried and got both my children under the lukewarm showers while my husband went to get towels - we wrapped both the children up and tried to find a changing room but everyone was going through the same thing and worried parents were just trying to get their children warm and dry. We eventually all got dry and found feeling in our feet and headed back out to overhear that a gas pipe had been burst and there was NO HEATING in the splashzone. I am sorry but a busy Easter weekend or not children should not have been allowed into those conditions and the splashzone should have been closed whilst emergency pumbers were bought in. I was so disappointed but was determined to still enjoy the rest of our weekend.

The beach was fantastic and the views glorious. We wrapped up warm and had a wondeful walk and the children had a great splash in their wellies.

The soft play area was great and so was the adventure playground. We had a trip into Portmadog and went to see the railway which the children loved. The evening entertainment was as expected basic but good. A word of warning,if you want to sit near the front for the childrens entertainment so you can keep your eye on them get down to the boardwalk vwry early it got absolutely packed!

Check out was very simple, just throw your key into a big bucket in reception!

On the way back we went to Greenwood Forest Park which was brilliant. Highly, highly recommend it especially for the little ones.

All in all had a great break.

Comments:  My family absolutely loved it here. We went half board in October for a week, and it only cost £208. That’s for 2 adults and 3 children! I thought this was a bargain, as my quote for self-catering was £192!!

The entertainment is fantastic. Their Halloween show was amazing! The kids are NEVER bored.

The chalet was a little small, with only 2 small bedrooms and a bathroom and hallway, but after the first day we realised that it didn’t really matter, because there was too much to do and we were hardly in it. It was clean though, which is what matters to me.

The food was nice, it made such a difference going half board rather than self catering. It seemed to add hours on to every day because usually when we're self catering, it’s gone dinner by the time the kids are fed and everywhere cleaned up! So it was a nice change.

The only thing that let the holiday site down was that it now has bouncy castles and those little water shooting games that you see at fun fairs dotted around the site. And the kids want a go every time you walk past. At £1 a go, it became rather costly. The site doesn’t need these, there’s enough to do already! I know it’s all about making money but it does put you off a bit.

Anyway a fantastic time was had by all. That was the 4th time for us at Hafan Y Mor and I’m booking again this year. We love it.

Comments:  I have just returned from a 3 night holiday at Hafan Y Mor, and it has exceeded expectations. On arrival the queue to check in was short but a little slow moving. Our accommodation had a funny smell in the bathroom and entrance way but not too bad in the bedroom. The walls were very thin and you could hear EVERYTHING in the adjoining rooms. I was impressed to see a tv/dvd player with various channels and pretty good reception. The room was clean and tidy.

Our apartment was very close to the half board restaurant. The food was cafe style but plenty of choice and not too busy (apart from the toasters in the mornings). Only words of advice with regards to the food is if it could be watered down, it was! The gravy, custard, orange juice were rubbish, but we discovered that early on and avoided them. The on site shop is quite expensive but okay for the odd bits. The games in the amusements were good value and not too busy. Shame you can't park closer to the apartments.

Comments:  I have just returned from this holiday and come back with mixed feelings about the whole experience.

The setting and landscape of this park is fabulous! Being so close to Snowdonia National Park was amazing and we explored a great deal. Some of the scenery is breathtaking! Gorgeous! The beach closest to the park is also lovely and again with wonderful scenery. The children's playground was great for my daughter (4) and the pedalos were good fun though a little expensive.

The accomodation was cited as Gold and was the apartment in the Ogwen block. It was furnished ok and was fairly spacious. However the mattress on our bed was absolutely terrible! Springs galore. On the first night we also discovered that the walls were incredibly thin and that the man above us snored rather loudly allllll night! I had a very bad nights sleep on the first night because the noise was incessant.

The park is very big and it does have good facilities on it. To get to the entertainment it was a bit of a walk but we did not mind as the weather was good. However when we went swimming we took the car for ease.

Half Board though was a total let down, we arrived for our evening meal with expectations of decent food but not gourmet and were let down totally. It was of poor quality and most of the food on offer was junk. I had jacket potatoes with salad on the first night and the rest I did not bother with. My husband tried some of the main dishes on offer and was not impressed.

For breakfast it was the standard cooked breakfast and cereals but again the cereals were cardboard in quality and the cooked breakfast was okish but how anyone can poach an egg and make it taste like rubber is beyond me!

There was only white bread on offer to be toasted and by the end of our stay there was only one coffee machine working leading to huuuuge queues.

On the second night we tried the evening meal and again found the food on offer to be poor! The curry was just terrible and again we all ate jacket potatoes and salad. At this point we decided to stick with the breakfast and miss the evening meal.

Entertainment on offer in the camp was OK though some of the funstars could barely hold a note and the country and western night was pretty dire! However we did enjoy a 'stars in your eyes night' which was very well done (if a little ill-timed by making fun of Pavarotti despite the fact he had just died?).

The swimming pool was good but the changing facilities are in need of an upgrade and there is a lack of baby changing facilities in there which made it difficult with my son of nine months.

I would consider going again mainly for the beach and surrounding area as for the park itself. I would not consider going in an apartment and would stick to a caravan or chalet. I would not go half board again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! terrible.

Comments:  We as a family with 2 children were looking forward to our 4 day break in a caravan. We travelled from Wrexham which took 2 hours the children were ready to stretch their legs, we arrived safely went to get our keys. Our first disappointment was we weren’t in a caravan, a streak of dread ran through my body it was the dreaded apartments we were in.

We drove round unlocked the front door the smell was disgusting - that was before we opened the door to the apartment we were staying in. We went in - it was filthy, the smell was unbelievable, the beds were dirty as were the floors, walls, bathroom. Don’t get me started on the cooker! We tried to be moved but they had nothing to offer us. We stayed the night then asked again if they had anything else, there was another apartment across from where we were staying. That was just as bad so we decided to go home we were there less than 24 hours, our children were gutted but I couldn’t have let them stay in that grotty room for another second.

So before you book, check you’re not in an apartment - we have learnt the hard way.
