From stepping off our transfer coach we were welcomed by one of the most curtious families I have ever met. The owner was fully aware that our flight times had not been great and let us go and eat our breakfast early on the beautiful balcony overlooking the amazing hotel grounds. watching the sun come up over the sea lighting up the pool area and snack bar. Great views of the town and you could hear a pin drop it was so quiet. The location is fantastic, within 1 minute you can walk to the mini golf! The best I have ever seen and so clean! or walk to the best friendliest bars and restraunts where the owners can't do enough for you either. The rooms were spotless and cleaned everyday. If you get up early enough you can see the guy cleaning the pool everyday too, even the bottom! ha ha! The food by the side of the pool was to die for! and so much of it too! Sometimes we left more than we ate and it was great value for money. There are frozen glasses in the freezer just waiting for you when you fancy a lovely chilled beer or water! What a great touch! On an evening you can go into the town that has lots of varied foods and bars and entertainment or stay in the hotel and enujoy pool or table tennis or the selection of the games behind the bar! Can't believe I lost at Monopoly, or just chill on the loveley comfy sofas with a cocktail or two. Our balcony overlooked the pool area and was a great spacious room! They had free air conditioning on offer the month we stayed which kept us lovely and cool when having a great uninterupted sleep in the afternoon! The staff were wonderful and lots of thanks to Angela who stayed up with us till 3 in the morning when we were picked up by our coach to make the journey home. It is above and beyond duty when a member of staff will make you all coffee and hot chocolate when they are supposed to have finished an hour before. The island is amazing, The hotel is the best I have ever been too! There was six of us and not one complaint. I do not believe any negative comments about this hotel could have been made. Once visited, never forgotten. Thank you all for making our holiday in Greece a hol we will remember for the rest of our lives.

Went to this hotel expecting a romantic quiet 2weeks holidayclose to a beautiful beach. On check in all seemed ok room pretty smallbut ok balcony meant 2 have sea view (yea rite)was overlooking a type of rundown farmward with donkeys and cockrels that made sure we didnt sleep past 5am each day.First shower distaster water everywere complained it wasnt fixed, first night in bar for entertainment (distaster) 2dogs owned by owners in bar jumping up on our knees trying to lick us an sniffing our peanuts and crisps (yuc)ok if u like dogs wich i dont and also have a fear of them.Enterainment went on some nights to 4am with the dogs running and barking up and down the corridor past our room,if it wasnt the dogs donkey r cockrels keeping us awake it was the entertainment.Rang reception to complain they never answered the phone. Breakfast was horrible paid for b&b for 2wks went once cold hard boiled eggs bread an tea went to 24/7 down the road most days excellent food (waffles to die for) THANKS GUYS. Beach a distaster couldnt even put a sun lounger on it had 2 get free bus with locals and all to better beach first day on return it was to pick us up at 5pm driver didnt appear to 6pm long hot wait on side of road. All in all a hotel i wouldnt recommend to my worst enemy went for a romantic break and a rest ,came back needing another holiday

great hotel and location
from mark1961
family run hotel in a good location no rowdy mobs in this resort The hotel is spotlessly clean and modern, Odd numbered rooms overlook the the pool area which again is very clean. There is a great snackbar by the pool selling excellent food and drink at fairly cheap prices. Breakfast is Greek consisting of fresh bread, ham, cheese, fruit, yoghurt, cereal fruit juice and coffee. There is a nice bar area with entertainment, when we were there it was Gemma & Simon Who were an excellent duet, and very friendly as were all the members of staff. The guests were mainly Scandinavian british and eastern european. There are some good greek restaurants nearby ,try Zorba's huge portions and tasty food, the palace de monguer is fantastic and only 100 meters from hotel we got 2 starters 2 meals and drinks usually for around 28 euros. I would highly reccomend this hotel to anyone Ps as you walk down the road from the hotel at night i bet you can not get passed the old man in the restaurant opposite 24/7 bar without him trying to get you eat there Goodluck you will enjoy this hotel *****
Disgrace of a hotel for couples.
from SeanDublinIreland
My girlfriend and myself have just returned from our holiday. While I cannot fault the island and the people, the hotel contessa was a disgrace. Our room was so small that it was just too cramped. We where put in a studio even though we booked a larger room. The bathroom was so small that when you stood up of the toilet seat you would bang your head of the towel rack. The balcony was a no go area to relax,as there was a restauraunt over looking it. The only plus side was the barman Larenzo an extreamly nice guy and the pool which was clean and welll looked after. If your a cuouple stay away freom this hotel.
Nice Hotel

Just returned from a 2 week holiday to Hotel Contessa in Zakynthos. Perfectly adequate Hotel, breakfasts a bit limited on choice, a toaster would have been a welcome addition, otherwise just bread, greek yoghurt, luke warm hard boiled eggs and tea and coffee but sufficient for our needs. Rooms were fine, but showers were not great, not a lot of room and water went everywhere but okay. Air conditioning was free in July and August, but at other times, you had to pay 3 Euros per day. Safes in the room were 15 Euros per week, Fridge was a further 3 Euros per day. Pool Bar was very good, food was nice and cold drinks on hand at fairly reasonable prices. Good Supermarket across the road with a very helpful lady serving. Snack Bar 24/7 just down the road, they served a good plateful of scrambled eggs on toast and full English breakfast if needed. Restaurants I would recommend are Ethnic, but you may have to book in advance, as it gets very busy. Australian lady and her son very helpful. Zorbas, lovely food and good portions. Marios snack bar/cafe across the road from Zorbas did lovely salads for lunch and a breaded chicken breast burger and chips, which was gorgeous and very reasonable. Argassi beach is not great, about 6 foot wide and very pebbly. The resort itself has a good mix for young and older, we didn't go to any Nightclubs but there were two there, Factory and Magic Mushroom. We didn't have children with us so I can't comment on facilities for kids. All in all, a very nice holiday. The temperatures in the second week were in the 40's and hit 47, so it was very hot and the pool was very welcome at times.
Loved the Contessa

Just returned from a fab weeks stay at the Contessa hotel in argassi! cant believe my holiday is over it was amazing! staff are extremely friendly and cannot do enough for you. rooms are spacious and cleaned to a very high standard everyday! pool area is large and not over run by loud and roudy people. plenty of sun loungers to go around also. we were based on the bed and breakfast basis and found this enough as it is so cheap to eat out and the food in greece is immense! have travelled to Corfu, Rhodes and Kos before and out of them all Zante was the most gorgeous! i cannot fault anything about my holiday would recommend to everbody and cannot wait to return next september!
Friendly, Comfortable, Clean Hotel
from IrelandJulie
We stayed in the hotel Contessa in early June and we were impressed with the hotel. We had a spacious clean room and bathroom with a balcony. The room was cleaned every day. The hotel itself is family run and the property is well maintained. There is a large pool, 25m and adequate sun loungers. There is a lovely fenced playground area in the shade at the back of the hotel also for children. Drawbacks include the breakfast which was very limited even for a continental breakfast. Bread, cereal and coffee was the sum total of it. Also you have to pay extra for the use of air conditioning and the fridge in your room.... 3euro for each per day. There is nightly entertainment in the hotel which can make it difficult to sleep if you are in the rooms directly above the bar, and this is where the biggest rooms are located. The resort itself has plenty of good restaurants, nice tourist shops and nightly entertainment. We were there in early June which was a really nice time to be there. I did get the impression though that the resort could get very busy later in the season. The beach in Argassi is quite disappointing. Small, stony and not much sand. However most of the hotels along the coast allow people to come in and use their sun loungers for free and there are free buses from the resort to many of the good beaches. The most amazing thing was how friendly the people were. Everywhere we went people greeted us in Irish! Also in restaurants the staff often sat down with us to advise us on places to visit. We would definitely recommend the restaurant symposium just outside the resort (towards Zante) and Palace de Monguer in the resort
Ok but not the best

Well me, my boyfriend and my parents all went to Argassi in September for a weeks holiday! Ariving at the hotel we were pleased, first impressions were good although the staffs English isnt very good. When me and my boyfriend got to our room it wasnt really small! You couldnt sit on the toilet without banging your head on the door handle in front, there was no space at all! When i went round to my parents room, it was massive, but we never complained. Anyway after 1 day, we went back to our room for a shower and to have a siesta and we noticed that the marble towel rack had fell off the wall and smashed all over the bathroom floor. I cut my arm quite deeply after walking past what was left of the sharp marble fixture on the wall. We went down to reception to ask for mainenance, but with it being family run it was just the receptionist that swept up the mess, no one came to fix it while we was there. Let me get onto the breakfast... dont even bother going for it!! All you get it cold tea, breadrolls and cheese!! OHH yes not forgetting the hard boiled eggs, stone cold!! The hotel wasnt the best but it didnt ruin our holiday, the area is lovely and the people around are friendly! Would recommend the area, not the hotel!
Great hotel - very clean and good location

Stayed at the Contessa Hotel for one week in August 2007 with my husband and the hotel was very much up to scratch. (We are both in our early thirties) Rooms and corridors are very clean. Pool is nice size with sun loungers available free off charge. They do charge 2 euro a day for cushions for the loungers if you want. Air con was free when we stayed. Fridge and safety deposit box can be hired. Only dissapointment was breakfast - not great variety and milk was terrible. Only made it for breakfast once so didnt really bother us. The food both quality and price throughout the resort though was fantastic. We wanted a very relaxing holiday and thats exactly what we got at the hotel and the resort of Argassi. They have a nice playgound for chilrden also and a few steps down from the hotel is a very good crazy golf course. Location of the hotel is excellent in the resort and if I was going back I would have no problem staying in the same hotel again.

It's all about everyone's expectations. You cannot expect to have 5 stars conditions at a 3 stars prices and then to be unsatisfied. Before getting there, we were pretty worried by the reviews, some said the hotel was a disaster, others said that they had a nice stay. The... more
