I sometimes wonder whether people are writing about the same Hotel!! The Peros family are wonderful people and make your stay as friendly as you want it to be. If you like Spain where no one has any time for you then you won't like Greece never Mind Kos. It's a totally... more

Basically a ten night stay here was 10 nights too long. Kefalos is beautiful, but if you do NOT want a freezing cold swimming pool, their greek children using the pool and shouting from one end to the other, playing football on the dust, the family watching greek films in... more

I dont want to say anything bad about this place because I think it provided the service expected very well and was well cleaned. Kos has a raw feel to it if you are used to villas/apartments etc in the Med/US. I suppose thats its appeal its like a third world... more

The hotel is run by the family who were friendly and helpful. We stayed b&b though we were never up in time to see the breakfast. We were advised that we hadn’t missed much. The pool was a good size and the surrounding area was clean, which you don’t see often. The... more

As good as it gets!
I've been back in the UK a week now and am desperate to go back. Hotel Athinoula - small rooms, even smaller bathrooms (they were tiny!!) but very clean. Hotel immaculate and extremely clean (very studious cleaners) and pool very clean, plenty of sunbeds and the pool's a good size too. Hospitality is 5*, and whilst Zack the owner appears to be Greece's answer to Victor Meldrew just watch him with his grandchildren! A lovely family who are so helpful. Michali (sp?) is a devil in disguise with a cheeky sense of humour and a real pleasure to spend time with in the well stocked bar, a lovely family-run hotel. Poolside bar did pretty basic food but the crepes were lovely, breakfast was 2 slices of bread, jam, tea/coffee - a bit on the mean side really, and the offer of rolls as an alternative would have been nice. All in Kefalos and Hotel Athinoula merits a huge 10/10 from me.
i loved it sooooooo much
it was unbelieval amazing i loved it that much!! the owners were amazing micheal evi cathrine with her little jak jak i really miss them all i wish i could have kept contact with them :( its sad now i think about i do really miss them i will defo go there again and next i will take a pompey flag with me to give to micheal coz its so much better thanmanchester united hehe
Very nice Hotel
The Athinoula is a lovely big hotel, very clean and well situated for shops, bars and beach. Lovely staff!! Good sized pool - always clean. Our room was a double but had a single bed also - plenty of storage space! Cleaned every day with fresh sheets and towels every other day;-) Complaints? None really.. if only the breakfast could be a bit more substantial - they have nothing to lose by offering a bit more than bread, butter and jam and tea/coffee! It could only go in their favour and bring people back again next time! Air-con was an added extra.. why should this be so? Again, surely it can only be a positive thing for the hotel to offer air-con as part of the deal! Why be like all the rest??! Final gripe was the pool bar. Expensive!! Again, why the uneccesary expense when you are already a paying hotel guest? (And why do a lot of Greek hotels feel the need to blast music from the pool bar from opening til closing... music itself is welcomed but why is it a case of LOUDER=BETTER??!) But hey, we had a great time!! Many thanks all round to Michalis and co! This was my 3rd time in Kefalos - love the place! Would definitely consider a return visit to The Athinoula... but why not be a bit more gracious with the brekkie? hehe! YAMASS!!!!
Excellent friend Break
This was our second visit to the Athinoula Hotel and again we had a lovely time, nothing was to much trouble. The rooms are basis but are cleaned to a very high standard, as is the whole hotel. The hotel is located close to the beach, bars, restuarants and supermarkets, and but is set far enough back from the main road through the resort. The pool side bar sells a selection of food and drink, I'd recomend the milkshakes (they beat Macdonalds hands down). This is a family run hotel, as are most of the hotels in the area, and we were certainly made to feel part of the family. Thank you Zac and family for a fantastic holiday, we've already booked to come back in July 2006!!
Excellent
Went there in October 2005 for 1 week. The staff were excellent, the hotel spotlessly clean and only a stones throw from a number of Tavernas situated close to or on the waterfront. Will be back in 2006
Beware the hidden extras(and the grumpy owner!)
Arrived at the hotel at 2am from a charter flight and so was not chuffed at having to wait in a large queue to book in at the reception desk as the old guy who was the owner meticulously recorded everyone's passport details, pernickity or what! The room was like an oven, no air con, had to get a fan from reception, 15 Euro's a week, should have been standard equipment in summer! Safety deposit box; another 15 euros a week, these guys are fleecing money out of people for standard hotel services. Also, the owner, does he have to be so grumpy at every request, even when we were giving him money he looked like he was chewing a wasp! Not good customer service. Another annoying thing was it seemed those who shouted the loudest or engaged in a lot of banter with the waitress were served breakfast first in the morning, so don't sit quietly in the corner or you'll wait all day (for your bread roll and jam)! Don't eat from the poolside cafe by the way, the food is dreadful.. Overall the holiday wasn't too bad, but this was not due to the hotel. The only good thing I can say is that the rooms were cleaned regularly.
couldn't swing a cat
enjoys a great position,in the middle of the beach, but 100 metres back from the busy road.could not swing a cat in the room, & we had a room for three. very peaceful location, with a great sea view. thank goodness it is not expensive to eat out as the hotel fare was dreadful.(how any one can do that to a jacket potato & backed beans is beyond me!) .
Super place to stay
Just returned from Kos, Hotel Athinoula, Kefalos. Resort quiet with plenty of tavernas , supermarkets, but little else so might be too quiet for families wanting an active holiday. That said our hotel was a super base being family owned and we couldnt fault the freindliness of the owners and the cleaniliness of the rooms which although basic were exceptionally clean and overlooked the pool so children could be kept an eye on. Would definately return to this hotel but as a couple rather than family.
Peace at last
This is my fourth stay here at the Hotel, this year I went for the first week alone as I wanted to rest and have peace and catch up on my reading, and that is just what I did. I think that says a lot when a single woman feels safe that she can do that in this hotel and the resort. I doubt very much that I could go on holiday in England and feel safe eg going out for meals, having a drink and sitting at a bar in a hotel The second week a friend came out, and we had a great time. I will be going back again next year whether it is alone or with some one. And again Zac and his family make you most welcome, nothing is too much trouble for them. Pat Miller
Wondeful holiday
We have just got back from our first visit to Kos and the Athinoula Hotel. What a fabulous time we had. We could not have been made more welcome. The hotel is fantastic, clean, good facilities and the family running it are a delight. Nothing was to much trouble. Thanks to Zac, Evi and all the family for a tremendous holiday. Can't wait to get back
