Friendliest Place Ever
8 / 10
Sep 2011, DanJul

Having booked off the internet I was unsure of what to expect. I needn't have worried. This was one of the friendliest places that I have ever stopped at and Sakis and Mary made it feel like one big family holiday. Nothing was too much trouble. The apartments were clean and comfortable, if a little tired, but I understand are due for refurbishment soon. The location is ideal, ten minutes walk to the beach or town but in a quieter area of Lambi. (Keep an eye out for "Lord the Lion" who prowls the owners gardens)
Altogether a highly recommended resort who's clientelle return year after year

Amazing week!

Just got back from the Lydia Apartments after a girls week in Kos. Brilliant hotel. Very quiet so plenty of sunbeds and very clean. the cleaners were round everyday apart from Sunday and were more than happy to let us sleep in late. everyone's very friendly and will do what ever it takes to make you feel comfortable. on our first night, we had a major bug incident in our apartment and one of the owners (not sure of his name) was more than happy to come to our rescue at 2am! you do have to hire the safes and aircon, but for the week for the both, it came to about £15 each between 5 of us which is very worth it. food and drink in the hotel is also very cheap and very high quality! there is quite a lot of dutch and german people there also, but everyone is so friendly. plenty of facilities for everyone and recommended to everyone from families to young people looking for a week in the sun! fantastic people!

the rooms were basic, as is all in kos.
It was a really nice, friendly apartment. It had it's own pool and pool side snack bar. This was really nice and cheap. The woman there was really nice and we got friendly with her. There was a shop next door that was cheaper than others near by and good to hire a fan.
The beach is about a 5 minute walk away with plenty of water sports and loungers.
There is a really nice cafe about 1o minutes walk called jakes. This did amnazing full english, the sausage was real meat not the rubbish you normally get abroad. It was 5 euro for all you can eat breakfast which was actually cheaper than the set breakfast.
There's plenty to do and loads of excursions. We went to bubble beach - this has more water sports to do that are cheaper than in kos.
i would deffinately go back.

I was very put off by the reviews I read on the internet about these apartments after we had booked to stay in these apartments however I was relieved when I got there. The apartments are very basic (you get what you pay for) and could do with a little bit of updating and refurbishing but they are clean and during our week stay we saw no pests of any kind. The cleaner emptied the bins regularly but we didn't get fresh towels or sheets during our stay.
The pool is very clean and well maintained and we didn't get charged for using the sun loungers or mattresses. Drinks and snacks from the poolside bar were reasonably priced although if you ordered a snack it did take quite a while to materialize and if you ordered a cocktail you didn't necessarily get what you asked for!
We arrived early morning and the key to our apartment was left in the door. There are no safety deposit boxes in the apartments but there are plenty of ones available in apartments close by - we used the ones in Blue Pool - directly opposite Lydia for 7 euros for a week. The path and the stairs are very poorly lit which can make it difficult when it is dark.
The staff are not particularly friendly but overall our stay in Lydia 1 was pleasant and I would definitely go there again.

Lydia one is very basic which is what you (should) expect for the money you pay. I stayed for a week and the cleaners emptied the bins 3 times but didn't change the towels or sheets as far as i am aware.
The pool and sun area is nice. The cafe area has the normal sort of food. One of the greek men that works there is absolutly hilarious, ask him to make you a blue lagoon, and it ends up red.....but really nice!
There is a bakery literally right outside the opartments if you wanted to get your fresh bread.
As for kardamena as a whole, i loved it. i didn't want to leave. Most people are really friendly and there are some really nice places to eat on the harbour front:
Alexanders - Really friendly people and the food is really nice. Went back there twice in the week i stopped there. I had chicken souvlaki, and if you do not have a big appetite, don't get a starter with that as the souvlaki comes with everything...rice, salad, chips, pitta bread.
Foo King Gou - slightly more expensive than alexanders but the food was reallly good. It was the best chinese chicken curry i have had from a chinese restaurant before.
Nemos - Really nice staff, one in particular is crazy!! The food again was really good, i had fajitas, they werent too hot and you get quite a lot of it.

I was disappointed with Lydia...
3 / 10
Aug 2008, Miss L McInerney

I was disappointed with Lydia Apartments having read fairly reasonable reviews prior to booking. The apartments weren't really cleaned during the week and the staff were quite rude - there also isn't a mention of the 7 euro charge per day for air con or the 1 euro charge per day to use sun lounger mattresses. This added significantly to the cost of apartments that were expensive intially. It would have been good to know about these charges prior to the trip, although I did learn that the air con charges are fairly typical.
They did clean the stairs outside the apartment - without placing a sign out - and I fell down the stairs that were covered in water and hurt myself quite badly. I went to explain to the owners as I was concerned about families with small children and I was dismissed despite showing the bruising that I had.
It's a real shame as the apartments in a great location with some good restaurants in Kos town - especially The Wolves Nest.

Have just returned from a great time...
8 / 10
Sep 2007, Mr D Jefferies

Have just returned from a great time in Kos. Lydia apartments have a heavy Dutch presence but that makes it all the more interesting, and the Dutch are a good crowd. The location is about 15 min walk from the harbour and set on a long straight road. It seems to be a development area that has "frozen in time". There is a section with nothing and then 3 houses and 3 hotels including Lydia.
There is also a just-enough shop (Dina?) 2 doors down which is only closed from 1am to 6am (I think). Next door to the apartments is a small-holding/farm which must be hanging on for grim death (or a better offer from developers!). It has an eclectic mix of cows, donkeys, goats chickens and some b***** cockerels which take a bit of getting used to - but don't let that put you off, cockerels seem to be everywhere.
First off, we arrived, late, at 3 in the morning on the first day and everything appeared deserted - oh dear we thought. But one look on the notice board and there we were with a note saying the key is in the apartment and sure enough it was!
As has already been said the apartments are great for 2 people but very crowded for 4. The bathroom is small and not fantastic and the hot water runs out, but that's solar heating and Greece for you. We stayed on the ground floor of the second block which has large banana trees by the patio which gives great cover from the sun most of the day if you just want to sit and chat without frying.
I can only praise the cleaning. The apartment was thoroughly cleaned twice with new towels and sheets during the week we were there, and tidied up every day. We were heading into close of season with some of the apartments empty so maybe the standards aren't quite so good in the middle of July.
The pool is great (and clean), although mind the trapdoor to the pump room that is permanently open! and the bar is always manned. They do breakfast from 7 till 11 but we didn't do this as we had sorted our own nosh out. There is a large grassed area (which the owner manically waters every evening) with kiddys swings etc.
We hired a car from the company whose card is on the bar. New car, they delivered and collected, on time, no stress.
If the cockerel shuts up you get a good nights sleep here and you feel safe and secure. If you want to be in the party zone then go further into town (or Kardemena for a lobotomy).
I did NOT see any rats and only one large insects scuttling across the floor!

Sep 2006, Mr M Davies

Hi. Thought I'd add a comment, as I found these reviews very helpful when deciding where to book myself. We've just got back and I found the Lydia apartments a great place to have spent two weeks. In my opinion, the best thing about these apartments is the location. It's really quiet in the immediate surroundings (give or take the odd barking dog), but you are also only a 15 min walk to the main nightlife and the beach in Kos Town (even less to most of the restaurants). The pool area is really nice and there's volleyball, table tennis, pool and football etc.
Yes, the apartments are fairly basic, but are pretty much what you would expect...you shouldn't be spending that long in them anyway! The only slight negative is that although they can accommodate up to 4 people in one apartment we found that a little squashed (2 proper beds + 2 'sofa' beds). Fine for 4 twenty-something blokes to put up with, but not everyone would be able to. Unless you're really keen to save money (like us), then I'd recommend two apartments for 4 people.
Bear in mind that there's an extra (small) charge for air conditioning to budget for.
A word or two on Kos Town. Great nightlife (as long as you like cocktails and shots!) in 'bar street', which is really lively (in season). Beach isn't great, but is ok for the odd day. I'd recommend hiring a car (v cheap) in town and seeing the island - particularly Paradise Beach near Kefalos and Zia in the mountains. Overall was a great place for our purposes. Would also recommend a day trip on one of the tourist boats in the harbour and maybe a trip further a field to Rhodes if you have the time (stay in a pension in the old part of Rhodes city).
Before I booked, I considered the Lenaki apartments through Thomson but plumped for Lydia apartments which I found a much cheaper deal (through Travel Republic). I'm glad I went for Lydia, as I discovered that the Lenaki apartments were directly opposite and didn't look as nice.

We have been coming to the Lydia...

We have been coming to the Lydia apartments for the last 8 yrs and have never had any problems. Lily and diamond are a lovely couple as are their son and daughter and I must add Manos their nephew is a star. As for George the handyman and his wife they are lovely peeps too.
I would recommend the Lydia to anybody. If you want a nice relaxing holiday, if you need to hire a bike or even a quad, go down the road and see Tony at ideal bikes, he will sort you out no probs.
Looking to have a nice Greek meal, find the caravan where Hassan and his wife will treat you well. Can’t say much else except where ever you go in Kos town you will be sure of a good welcome.
