I found the rooms to be of a good size and our balcony was large, but the view of a derelict tomato factory was disappointing. The room was quite clean when we arrived but the floor wasn't swept during our two week stay.
The bar area was very unwelcoming, in fact we never saw many people in there. It didn't help that the bar staff were abrupt and downright rude! This could easily be addressed by good management.
The location was ok, near the beach(pebble). The pool area was cramped but just about adequate although the shower didn't work .also the one night weekly entertainment was awful.
Overall I find 3*+ rating a bit generous as it lacks attention throughout & the staff problem needs addressing as it creates a bad atmosphere & for that reason, I would be surprised if many people return.

Well i can't believe some of the comments i have just read! I would just like to say we have just visited Sophia Beach Apartments and we had lovely time. We found our room nice and spacious, actually one of the biggest rooms we have stayed in in greece. The place was clean and the maids were friendly.
We also visited last Sept and found George very friendly. I suppose if you treat him like a bit of crap he will treat you like a bit ,we got on with him really well. The pool was not was not murky and a good size. The grounds were kept clean and tidy also. Alex, a lovely man, working behind pool bar made us very welcome we wouldn't hesitate in visiting again. Blue Phoenix at bottom of road is a must visit. They made you feel very welcome and it has good food.

Only been back for 2weeks, where to start.
Accommodation cannot fault, basic cooking facilities but what do you expect there are plenty of very good places to eat in Kos town a 15min walk away or closer by.
Towels and bedding changed every 4 days, bedding not the cleanest. If it rains don't expect to get your balcony cleaned, we had orange dust over it, chairs and table until I cleaned it myself.
Be prepared to be nagged to death every time you and your key in or on collecting it, over the BBQ which happens every Monday.
Was alarmed that there is a strip club over the road and the two bars on the front, get very busy at weekends with the young locals who drive up and down the road outside.
Be careful because they will run you over and the street isn't well lit.
The beach is very pebbly and this continues into the sea where it falls away quickly. I would say to take some sort of waterproof shoe, as the pebbles do hurt your feet.
Don't bother with the sites i.e. the castle, ancient baths etc it’s not worth your time.
Be very careful of your suitcase weight when returning they will rip you off big time.
On the whole had relaxing holiday but wouldn't dash back to Kos.

Stayed at the Sophia beach 3 adults 1 child for 1 week.
Rooms were lovely and spacious and were cleaned every day, cleaners were also very friendly.
Pool location superb with sun round all day. Beach was just a minutes’ walk down road. 10 minutes walk into busy Kos town.
A must to go to for food and friendliness is the delon bar with Costas and Demetrius they will keep you entertained, its only 100 yards from Sophia beach on main strip.
I’ve now been twice to Kos and I am looking forward to going again very soon.
See you soon pal.

I have good and bad feelings for this place.
The apartment we could not fault there was 5 of us in a 2 bed apartment with 2 bathrooms and a good sized living area with 2 balconies very clean and tidy.
We had the cleaners in every day and fresh towels and bed lined most days. The pool was a safety hazard it is very slippy when the concrete round the pool gets wet if you use the metal ladders to get in the pool they come away from the side and you start leaning back thinking they will come away altogether then if you manage to get in the pool without an injury be careful as the floor is very slippy and you can easily slip and go under.
We found some staff very ignorant and ignored us so we didn't use any of the facilities on offer. Don’t expect to get any sleep on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night as the music is so loud from the pubs on the beach till around 3am (the music usually gets turned up around 1am)
I recommend using the pool next door and they are happy for people to go round.
The beach is a 2 minute walk from the Sofia and shops are very close as are the taverna's angleino's is very good and you get large portions if you want a good drink in a friendly pub then visit costa and co at the delon pub they are very friendly and very amusing they also have sport on non stop and play all the England matches they also do a good pizza (very nice)
I would stay at the Sofia again just for the apartment but don't recommend anything else there.

We stayed here for a week in May and I have to say we had a fab time.
My girlfriend has been all over Greece and says it’s one of the best she has seen big, clean and a wicked location, 2 mins from the beach, but do go towards the bars to use their loungers as there - free if you buy a drink.
Rooms was cleaned every day, I used to be a rep in Spain and most of them was only cleaned 2 - 3 times a week.
Definitely recommend Amazon just up the road to the main road and turn right 20 Euros for a 3 course meal and a free bar every day 6 till midnight, food was really nice too staff really friendly in there too.
Bus service around the island is really good too and cheap.
I would definitely stay here again.

Stayed at Sophia Beach May 07, first British this season.
The beds felt damp, very little kitchen utensils if you wanted to cook. The apartment had a wet room and the first time we used the shower the studio was flooded. It took 4hours and 4 visits to reception, to have this mopped up.
We were subsequently moved (to make the wet room available for a disabled customer) this we didn't mind.
We ended up on the first floor best room in the property we were told, the fridge was rusty, still no cooking utensils, the bathroom was dirty and the tiles were all mouldy, no change of bed linen, the towels are all frayed and grey.
The cleaners didn't seem to have any cleaning materials.
Everyone you spoke to had a complaint about the rooms: rooms that didn't lock, water coming out of the drain in the bath, no hot water. To name a couple of comments.
No entertainment, the owner disappeared with the sky card so no footie, even though it was advertised.
The Blue Phoenix bar/restaurant which is close by was super.
The hotel next door seemed like heaven in comparison.
Stay away.

We stayed at the Sophia Beach Apartments in May 07. We stayed in room 321.
We were the first guests in the room of the season, so we were expecting it to be clean and tidy. When we arrived we were horrified at how the hotel was allowed to open with the rooms at such a state.
The hair drying was broken along with the door, kettle, fridge, shower, microwave and much more.
All the guests there at the same time as us were disgusted in the place, everyone was so unhappy.
The owner was the most un-cheerful man you could meet, one day he disappeared with the sky card so the football which was advertised to play, didn’t. No hot water.
On the other hand the hotel next door we would rate it 10/10 so friendly.
Not even a 3 star! Wouldn’t recommend it at all!

Sophia Beach Hotel was a little disappointing but not too bad. We liked the fact that the apartments have a fridge and gas rings.
The receptionist (blonde) was a little unfriendly with us also. The bar is a bit rubbish to be quite honest but it showed English football matches much to my boyfriends delight!
The weather was gorgeous around 25c. I recommend you get boats over to Nissyros to see the volcano and also go to turkey on a Tuesday which is market day! Excellent!

We had a fantastic time at the Sophia Beach. The apartments are very nice, clean and spacious.
We went to the beach though rather than use the pool at the Hotel, which we preferred. The staff were wonderful at the Sophia, the local people were extremely friendly and the resort fabulous. There are very nice place to eat along the beach front, including the Palace and the Plaza - excellent food.
I would recommend this location to anyone – Fab.

We have been doing aparthotel holidays for some years now, and this holiday at Sophia Beach was the best yet. Our reaction on arriving was not so good, as the hotel does not have many facilities - in my experience aparthotels are a mix of apartments where you have all the freedom of self catering, and a hotel, Sophia is just apartments, with no restaurant and limited entertainment. And the pool is very very small with no shade. The rooms are fine.
A bad start? Far from it. Everybody is friendly and helpful, and the choice of which restaurant to eat at or which beach to use is absolutely vast, reasonably priced and good quality. Use the local restaurants or take the 30 minute walk into KOS. Your choice. Food was always good. I personally would always avoid hotel restaurants and eat out anyway.
Forget the pool completely. Don't wake up at some ridiculous time to find some chairs - wander down the seafront when you are ready (usually 11am in our case) and pick your beach area. We elected to pay 10 euros per day for 4 beds with Pavlos Beach (couple of free days thrown in if you keep going back). Wonderful guy. If you go further along towards KOS you can get free beds linked to the various restaurants if you buy drinks etc there, however everything seemed very crowded with these free areas. Stick with Pavlos or similar, pay the money and take up as much space as you need.
We were in the basement rooms. We were concerned about this initially, but soon realised that this provided welcome shade and a break from the heat. We did have an option to move after a week but chose to stay put.
When you go into KOS the harbour area is very noisy. If you want something quieter and more Greek, venture into the town and you will find wonderful restaurants and shops.

Just returned having had a wonderful holiday in this resort. The apartments were spacious and clean, but basic as we expected.
The apartments are ideally situated for the beach (less than 2 minutes walk) and the local restaurants. Make sure you try the Blue Phoenix and the Old River restaurants on the beach front.
The hotel is well managed and both George (bar) and Sophia (reception) do their best to look after you. The air conditioning could do with improving, however, despite the heat wave in Kos we managed to sleep in relative comfort.
The pool was a decent size and sun beds were plentiful if you prefer to lounge around the pool, as we do. The pool did not get too full mainly due to the proximity to the beach.
The old town and harbour are approx. 15 mins walk and definitely worth a visit at night (this is when the town comes to life). Try the Taurus bar if you want Sky Sports (football and films), situated on the main road in to the town.
If you are going to take one of the many boat trips, book it directly from the harbour as the tour reps charge more. I would definitely recommend a trip on a boat named Katrina. The owner is very friendly and the trip was well worth the 60 Euros (2 adults & 2 children).
The islanders are very friendly and go out of their way to look after you. We will definitely go back to Kos and the Sophia Beach.
