I stayed at The Palace in August 2008, with my best friend on a partying/clubbing holiday
in a nutshell i found sleeping with no air conditioning horrendous, the fact that everytime we asked for a drink food etc at the hotel bar it seemed to be an effort for them to go and fetch it.
Everytime we had a shower the whole bathroom got drenched due to no shower curtain.
Most of the English guests when we were there had been in trouble (and even fined)from the miserable owners for being loud/slamming doors.
The maid walked in when we were in bed and when we asked her to come back later she carried on cleaning, cleaning, by the way consists of picking everything up and making a pile in the corner of the room, and the sheets were only changed once while we were there.
As someone else stated there is also only so many cheese toasties you can eat in a fortnight.
As for the holiday rep, well you could tell he couldnt be bothered with his job..think we saw him about twice the whole time we were there..and a few more times getting VERY drunk in the town, we had the camera stolen one night and after speaking to him he did nothing about this.
On the positive side, the pool was really nice and clean, nice atmosphere, music playing and always had sun loungers available, pool bar served a good variety of drinks.
hotel close to all the nightlife but far enough away from it so that you can sleep when you return on a night away from all the noise.
Beach quite a walk away from the hotel - and an uphill walk back.
Brilliant holiday - went quad biking (however the roads are a nightmare) lots of good lively bars (the only problem was the promoters trying to pull you in every single bar when walking down the strip)Great excursions - we went on a party boat which took us to a private island for a barbeque and also a beach party.
Would go to Malia again, but dont think i would stay in this hotel.

5 of my mates and myself went there back in may 08 and on the first night were threatened to be kicked out, we didnt talk to the owners as they were not interested in any of their guests, malia as a place was great and i am returning there this year, hopefully the next hotel will be better
- Advice: Never Book at this place, the rooms are so basic and the toliets and showers are rubbish
- Activities: the best place we went to was the pool bar crazy, where all were made to feel welcome

I stayed at the Palace Hotel with my boyfriend from Sep 2-Sep 16 and we had a great time. We had expected Malia to be less busy at this time of the year but it wasn't at all quiet. The weather was lovely not too hot and the hotel was exactly what we wanted laid back, quiet and relaxing and the staff made us feel right at home with them. I was actually surprised to read negative comments in other reviews but after giving it some thought I now know why. Malia attracts a mixture of people, of all ages and backgrounds so troublemakers and brats are bound not to have a good time in a family-run hotel like this one. While we were there, my boyfriend and I witnessed two Welsh 30 year olds who were too drunk to even stand up properly skinny dipping in the hotel pool at about 3 in the morning. We were asleep at the time but they woke us up with their shouting and watched from our balcony as they got told off by the staff for swimming when the pool was unsupervised and with loads of chemicals in it. They wouldn't get out of the pool, they swore at the staff, were abusive and refused to pay the fine they were told to pay. When they sobered up a bit they did and they were apologetic obviously realising that they could have drowned and that indecent exposure is not tolerated with in Crete. This incident made me understand that such people aren't likely to say nice things about anyone and that it is that kind of behaviour that gives the English a bad name its such a disgrace. They should be ashamed of themselves.
Other than that, we had an amazing time chilling around the pool, the rooms were very clean and the bar served quite cheap snacks such as fry-ups, chips, hamburgers, salads, pizzas. The staff were very hospitable and welcoming, they would do anything for you. Joshua the rep was a bit of a disappointment, so full of himself and not helpful at all. I would recommend this hotel to couples of all ages for a relaxing break in the sun but not to those looking for a crazy and wild holiday as they will definitely complain about something to balance their own bad behaviour.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at in Malia. I understand that you cannot expect a 5* in Malia but this place is a joke. The owners have completley no respect for any of their guests they treat you like cattle, the rooms are an absolute joke NO FRIDGE, NO AIR CON, when we arrived we found used razor blades on our beds. The hotel is stingy and dirty. Would never reccomend it to anyone. The worst thing of all was the way the owners treated us, its a disgrace.

Me and my partner stayed at the Palace for a week in August.
Rooms were very clean and beds quite comfortable.
The rooms are very basic, literally a bed, set of drawers and a Bathroom. However this is what i pretty much expected. The only disappointment with the rooms was the issue of no Fan! It was 40 degrees pretty much the whole time we were there, so as you can imagine hot nights! Fans can be hired for a charge but you would hope going somewhere so hot that at least ceiling fans might be provided.
Bearing this in mind we had to keep our balcony door shut day and night as there was an unfortunate incident where 2 intruders were spotted by my partner climbing up on to the first floor below us at about 2am. We alerted the owners and thankfully one of the intruders was disturbed by our voices and made a run for it.
However, the owners were so grateful that we had alerted them and kept Thanking us for the rest of our holiday and we were treated to a free lunch the following day. Anna assured us that this happens all over Malia, which we understood and didnt affect our view of the Palace.
We had a lovely holiday though, the location of the hotel from all the bars is just a nice 10 minute walk, Pool was excellent and always sunbeds available.
Only improvement i think is needed is the Fan issue!
Owners were lovely, always going out of their way to help.
Food at bar nice and a wide selection available.
Would recommend this hotel to younger and older couples if going for a week's holiday. However not to families with young children as no fridges to keep cold drinks/bottles etc and rooms are small.

I have just arrived home from Malia and stayed in the Palace Hotel with my friend for a week. I can honestly recommend Palace hotel to anyone, after reading the reviews written on various websites i must admit i was weary of staying there but thought i'd give it a try, which i am glad i did. We are both 24 and enjoy the nightlife Malia had to offer but didn't want to be right in the middle of it all for a week, so Palace hotel is perfect as it's in walking distance from the fabulous restraunts Malia has to offer, a two minute walk to the shops which range from grocery stores to fab little shops that sell shoes, clothes etc... The nightlife is a short five minuite walk away so when you get back to the hotel you hear no noise and the hotel its self is relaxed and easy going. The rooms are cleaned daily and your beds made and fresh towels left for you. The room we stayed in has a balcony (i think they all do) two single beds, safe vanity table and mirror and bedside table with table and chairs for you to relax on the balcony too. The staff were lovely and there to help when needed. My shoe broke (they provided glue) and when i thought i broke the safe Anna showed me my phone had blocked it from locking. All in all a nice relaxing hotel where the staff are there to help if needed. and would defenetly book again.

My family enjoyed a wonderful two week holiday in this hotel earlier this year. This was our fourth holiday to the same hotel and we have been drawn back because of the wonderful location, excellent accommodation, spotless rooms and friendly and efficient service from the staff. Highly reccomended to families and couples.

Just back from the Palace Hotel and can honestly say this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The whole place was so clean like I have never seen on holiday before.
There was a really good selection of reasonably priced English and Greek food at the pool bar, we ate there quite a bit and we all enjoyed it. The staff at the hotel are fantastic, really lovely people, and take a real personal interest in you.
When you go into Malia itself there is loads of bars and clubs to choose from but the hassle you get to go in is unbelievable, when you are walking down the street about six people come out of each one and surround you and if you try to walk past they accuse you of being rude and ignorant and the 'free drinks' you get are seriously watered down. The best thing to do if you are in a group is walk seperately from each other and pretend you are meeting a friend in a different club.
Also beware that most toilets on the strip are dire and have no toilet seats, locks on the toilet door, or toilet paper, so make sure you bring tissues.
Aside from this we had a great holiday and will definitely go back to Malia and the Palace next year

Just got back from an amazing holiday!Malia is absolutely fantastic and the Palace is the best hotel i've stayed in! The people there are really friendly, the snack bar is quite cheap and serves delicious food and milkshakes to die for! Excellent location away from the noise of the clubs and the swimming pool is enormous! Hope to go there again in late august if not next year for sure. Strongly recommend it to young couples as its a small hotel run by a greek family. Don't go for a week though, it's not enough i think 2 weeks is perfect.

We went to malia in september 2009, we had a great time at night but the hotel wasnt the best.. rooms were very basic, too hot, showers were like a water room you got the whole drenched room. one night i was really ill and threw up on the bed sheets, i wasnt allowed clean ones till 4 days after !!!! the owners were quite rude with us and were very strict, i felt like i was living in a instituition!!
we met some amazing people though!!! going back this year but definately to anouther hotel!
the hotel was quite a walk from the strip aswell which was annoying.
pool was nice but you arnt allowed to dive, or eat food round on your sunbed. also on the last day we wernt alloowed to use the shower to get ready to go home we got chucked out of our room and had to sleep in the hallway which was unpleasent for others.
i would recommend malia to the younger crowd but not this hotel!
