i loved this hotel
I have just got back from a week at this hotel half board. I read trip advisor report before I went and was nearly put off by it being on a main road, all depends on your opinion of main road. The hotel is set back from the main road by about 700m and there are buildings in between, there is an Avenue that runs down the side of the hotel that the locals seem to use, but it gets about as much traffic as a Cornish Lane in winter, but is also used by horse and carriage. There was plenty of food to choose between, On another report where they said the food was cold, it was only because there was so much to choose from that by the time you had finished loading your plate it became cold. The staff at the hotel were very friendly, throughout the reception, restaurant and bar and there was entertainment for the children in the evenings, as well as a play park, bouncy castle etc. The hotel is situated within walking distance of the beach, and right on the edge of the Albuferra marsh, if you are a nature lover/birdwatcher you will love it. I sat watching purple gallenule and marsh harriers from my balcony in the evening. The rooms are clean with separate shower and a larger than average Spanish bath. with a kitchenette and a fridge/microwave over. The weather was very warm with glorious sunshine. The swimming pool is great for all ages, and there was a lifeguard on duty, and theres plenty to do without going outside the hotel complex. There is on street parking as well as a garage Cant fault this one, great family hotel / nature lovers / bird watchers / cyclists. Try it and let me know what you think
lukewarm food
Prinsotel la dorada Date April 2nd 2007 Just returned from 7 day stay half board. With husband, elderly mother and 12 year old son. Location of hotel quite built up and by a major road but fantastic beach close by . Hotel pools fantastic but the weather was overcast so no-one was using them. Hotel opened only 2 days before we arrived not enough staff in dining room and bar. Food was never hot enough and was difficult to get a waiter in the bar. Only one bar\clubroom over run with kids 3-10 year olds Entertainment team for this age group was fantastic, but it became annoying by mid week . Nothing to entertain my 12 year old. Hotel ok for elderly and wheelchair users. Best suited for families with young kids . Not good for self catering kitchen area very cramped and dark. We would not use this hotel again.
Great hotel, few things to consider though !
Hi all, My wife and two kids (aged 2 and 3) visited La Dorada for 1st 2 weeks in Sept 06, overall we had a great time but there are a couple of things to consider in my opinion. First the good: The hotel complex is excellent, esp for families such as ours. The Pool is fresh and clean and the sunbeds are not unlocked until 9am so no need to get up at 6am to beat the crowd ! It's well laid out and there was always plenty of space, that may be different in very high season ! The entertainment staff are great, esp with the kids. They have a kids disco every night and they have such energy for it everynight - even on our last night there was maybe only a dozen kids for the disco but even so the staff gave it their all for them. The kids club is also good during the day but it's not a creche so kids can come and go as they please. The adult entertainment later on was varied, some great, some terrible !! The food in the restauraunt we found to be the best in the resort. We were there self catering but you can still eat in the hotel for about 35 euros for an all you can eat buffet - and the choice is excellent. Also, I don't know whether this was a fluke or not but the kids ate free so we had 3 courses for us all for about £25 ! The apartments were very good as well, although the kitchen isn't that well stocked for SC holiday (although to be fair you are told this before you go so there are no surprises). They are cleaned EVERY day to a high standard and sheets changed 3 times a week - it's air conditioned (all the windows need to be shut and only setting 1 works !) and our request for a top floor with a pool view was adhered to ! Also, there is a doctor on site everyday who is very good and speaks great english. This was invaluable for us as both our two got throat infections ! The front desk staff are also very helpful and in the main speak very good english. I've seen a few reviews about the mossys but we had no trouble at all, few bites here and there but that was it - the so called swamp at the back is a nature reserve and is fine Finally if you travel with Thomas Cook you won't get a better rep than Natalie at La Dorada - she was brilliant, esp as we had ill kids, really attentive, gets to know you and is on site when she says she will - which is a lot - best rep we've ever had. Oh - and if you fly with Thomas Cook from Glasgow - take the Monday flight as they use the big 757 which has TONS of leg room, really comfy ! I'm 6 ft tall and had acres of space. Now what to consider: The location of La Dorada could be better, it's at the top end of Playa De Muro (which isn't a great resort) so going out walking is pretty drab and the restaraunts near by are awful - esp for food for the kids, you couldn't get anything remotely healthy and the adult food was pretty poor too - Smiths Irish Bar and the George and Dragon are to be avoided for dinner !! Best bet is to take the bus into Port De Alcudia - 2.5 euros for us all and they are great, a taxi back was only 8 euros. Within resort you need deposits for the TV remote, towels and the safety deposit box, not much but something to remember. TV is also poor - you get CNN and Eurosport in English, the rest in spanish and german (of which the resort is full of !). We had a few things break in the apartment, towel rail on the balcony, hairdryer (constantly) and the power socket that the key slots into - all repaired ok but you feel the apts could do with a wee overhaul. Car Hire - we hired one for the fortnight through Avis as we'd heard that the airport transfer takes ages - we found this a great thing as the wee spar shops are 3 times as expensive as the nearby supermarkets, so the car was handy for that. Also allowed us to get about the island, down to marineland, palma and out to the caves at Arta - without the car I feel we'd have been a bit bored in resort ! So overall a great holiday, weather in Sept was overall great - I prob wouldn't go back to La Dorada for 2 weeks due to location but would certainly consider it for a quiet week cheers
watch out for the extra's.
We have just got back from a 2 week stay at the Prinsotel La Dorada, on an all inclusive basis. It was good, 2 weeks was a long time as not much to do in the local town. Although we were all inclusive, we still had to pay a deposit of 10 euros per towel, 10 euros each all inclusive wrist band and pay for the safe. If you wanted a remote control for the TV that was also another 10 euros, although the only English channel was CNN ( a news channel ). The hotel, room, restaurant, pool area were all very clean and the food was good with plenty of choice. We went out twice to eat, both places I would highly recommend - The Chinese Slow Boat and the New Delhi 2. The hotel was about 90 per cent full of Germans ! No problem with the sun beds as they are all stacked up and unlocked at 09.00. The entertainment team were very good, and always remembered our daughters name.
Shame about the area!!
This hotel is faultless. The staff are fantastic, especially the entertainment team. Its clean and the pool area is beautiful. I went with my husband and 2 children aged 3 & 7. The children had a great time, but myself and my husband found it quite boring. When you leave the hotel the "finesse" ends, The area the hotel is situated in is grubby and dirty, the litter in the streets stayed for the 2 weeks we were there. The resteraunts within walking distance are of poor standards apart from the chinese and indian. The beach is beautiful. and the sea was heaven to swim in. We were eaten alive by mosquitos. There is a nature reserve just across the road that stretches for miles, so it dosnt take a master mind to know there will be millions in there. We have travelled alot and never been bitten once until we came here. I did feel let down by this holiday due to the area the hotel was in.
2 Weeks at la Dorada
Just returned from 2 weeks at Prinsotel La Dorada in Playa De Muro with my husband and 15 year old daughter. Couldnt fault the hotel, well designed and maintained. And plenty of towels! The pools are extremely good, something for everyone. The hotel entertainment team have things going on all day for all ages. We had an apartment overlooking the pool which I had e- mailed them to ask for. The bathroom was great, two showers and not en suite so convenient for us with older kids. The resort restaurants were pretty good we thought, particularly the Chinese Slow Boat, Matias on the corner and our favourite Topo Gigio - try the monkfish and prawn kebab and the seafood soup. It is a large resort and purpose built and we felt lacked some character but if you want a good beach holiday its perfect. The beach across the main road from our hotel was beautiful, miles of it and all sand and gently shelving. There are sunbeds with parasols on the beach for about 3 euros each per day which we thought was worth it. A trip to Soller was worth it in itself, old Majorcan style small town and you can get the vintage train ride there which was fun or the tram to Port de Soller, also worth a visit. You can get the bus from Playa de Muro or an excusion (use an excursion company bookable from the car rental places because its half the price of the tour operators). Alcudia old town is well worth a visit and many restaurants there are authentic offering the menu of the day for about 8 - 12 euros each from 1.30pm. Again get the bus there. Check the days of the local markets because the buses get very busy on those days in the mornings. We went to see "Pirates" near Palma. Great fun audience participation show with food and drink thrown in, fantastic acrobatics, never seen anything so good. Go if you can and be prepared to shout and scream for your "Pirate"!. Our daughter wanted to go on the Go Carts at the roundabout at Alcudia. Watch both sessions for older and younger children first before putting your kids in them. We decided not to let our daugther on them because some of the adult men were racing dangerously in our opinion. However the little carts for younger children running separately looked fine. Probably wouldnt return to Playa de Muro because not really our thing but certainly couldnt fault it.
Loved this Hotel
When we reviewed this hotel I was quite impressed with the comments. However, the only gripe is that it is on the outskirts of Muro and there are only a few shops and restaurants along the main road near Prinsotel. You need to get a bus to either Can Picafort of Port Alcudia for any decent nightlife or decent shops. The apartments however are beautiful and the complex is the nicest I have seen. Unfortunately, although the rooms have sky tv is ALL in German and you cant understand anything. Also the fight for the sunbeds in a nice spot around the pool is unbelievable. We went with our two teenage children (12 and 15) and they were very bored. If you have younger children (0-10) I would recommend this aparthotel as they do their hardest to entertain the children especially at night with childrens songs, competitions etc. Top restaurants near Prinsotel are Slow Boat, New Delhi 2 and if you walk about 5 minutes down the road and turn left you will find a beautiful Italian Restaurant called Napoles which is absolutely out of this world. Excellent service too! Overall fantastic complex and the sea and beach are 2 mins across the road. Wonderful. Also we flew with Thomas Cook at a time when the terrorism alert was going on and they were absolutely fantastic at all times. However, dont be fooled into buying an american express travellers cheque card from the travel agent before you go as nowhere accepts it. Its okay to use it at the cash machine although you are charged 2 euros each time!
Superb Holiday - The Prinsotel La Dorada is excellent
Really excellent holiday. The accomodation is truly superb, well appointed and cleaned daily. The pool areas are extensive and ideal for children. the entertainment for children is really excellent and hotel prices for drinks if you're not all-inclusive are more than reasonable - a 1 litre jug of Cava based Sangria about 7.50 Euros, A San Miguel about 2 Euros and a Glass of Wine about 1.75 Euros. It is a mainly German occupied hotel so take you alarm clock if you want the prime position for the sunbed but there were enough to go around. Really excellent for families who want a quiter holiday as the main resort of Alcudia is a taxi or bus ride away. Local restaurants are good. We found Napoles (Italian), Topo Gigio (Spanish / Italian) and Slow Boat (Chinese) to be the best. Our personal favourite is Napoles which is a 10-15 minute walk down the main road through Playa de Muro. The food and sevice is excellent. If anyone goes, please pass on our regards to Alberto and Samantha!!
Fantastic time
We have just come back from a fantastic 2 week break at the Prinsotel.I had my mother in law with us and my 2 children so we were looking for somwhere that would suit us all. We booked our flights with Monarch and our Hotel and transfers with Relaxabroad and saved quite a bit of money compared to brochure prices. Especially as the 1st week was a school holiday. It was a good 45 minute transfer to the Hotel but there is a new road just opened so it might be a bit quicker now. Our apartment was on the third block by the pool and at ground level which was a good location. The 1 bed apartment was very spacious with 2 single beds in the bedroom and 2 L shaped sofa beds in the lounge area. There was a small kitchenette and had a separate bath and large shower. There was also an additional wash basin located outside of the bathroom which came in very handy. We were on Half Board and the food was excellent as were the staff especially those in the kids club. There were a number of pools and an indoor one too. The beach was just across the road with a number of eateries. If you want somewhere a bit quieter than Alcudia but still with all the amenties then this is the place for you. We would definatley go back in a heart beat.
4 Years in a row.
My family fell in love with La Dorada on our first trip in 2002 and we have returned every year since then. It's a great family holiday destination, super clean, great food, very spacious pool areas and enough sun beds for everyone including the Germans. The apartments are very well appointed and the staff are excellent. We are returning again this year to meet up with friends we have met over the years who like ourselves, are repeat costumers. Roll on July!!
