If you have never been to Crete before (shame on you) this is probably one of the best places to stay if you like a bit of a quiet life during the day. Staff (Pavlo, Toni, Rania - hi guys) are always there to help. Easily accessible to Malia if you like clubbing (not for me tho!)Plenty of food places on offer and lots on the plate!I can't think of a better place just to relax - beaches are wonderful, people are very welcoming (ok I know they want to make some money) but they are. You can have a breakfast at the Villa (cheaper than going out and really nice)and just look at the view from the balcony. Fresh orange juice, toast and jam (or whatever you ask for) my 18 year old daughter usually wanted a cheese omellete which was delivered!). I can't say much more than I will always wish I was there. Plenty of stuff to do in the evenings too - just walking around makes you feel better. It is a basic apartment but that's what you pay for - I get really annoyed by people who expect sheets changed every day - do you do that at home? Anyway all I can say is The Best

Just back after a week at the Alexander. It was cheap, and of course you get what you pay for but there's no excuse for dirty accomadation. When we arrived the apartment (studio) floor was so dirty that walking on it in bare feet made them black. Although a maid did go into the room every day, the floor wasnt washed or swept once during our stay.
Although there was traffic noise it wasnt too bad, and the road no worse to cross than most roads in the UK.
If you hire a car bear in mind the Cretan drivers are scary as hell, and have to overtake whether there is room or not.
Dont bother visiting the so-caleed archealogical site at Knossos, it was bought by an English bloke who rebuilt much of it in concrete, to designs owing much to wild guesswork and it is just a tacky rip-off.
The sights at Gortys, Phaestos, Malia etc etc are much more impressive, and cheaper or even free

villa alexandra was great!!! we are just back from stalis and we loved it so much we are going to book up to go next july,the staff are so friendly and the pool area and rooms are really clean and are kept clean on a daily basis...villa alex is just up the road from the main stalis strip and the beach,there is a main road u have to walk over to get down to the strip but its not to hard to get across. the prices at the pool bar are quite reasonable compared to some of the crazy prices on the main strip!!!! all in all it was a great holiday and would fully recommend the villa alexandra to anyone wanting a good stay in crete!!!

Our family of four 2 adults and 2 teenager aged 13 and 16, we booked our first Crete 2 week holiday in 2008 after reading some very positive reviews, but after reading some of the more recent reviews about the Alex we were a little concerned about what would greet us on our arrival. We were a little aprehensive and not very impressed by the first impression from the outside,which was in the dark at 10.30pm. After making our way up in the lift we were plesantly suprised by the lay out, with the pool being surounded by the apartments and the bar, we were greeted by Pavlos and his brother Toni who run the Alex, Pavlos helped us take our luggage to our apartment. The apartment was very basic and looked a little tired but we expected this as we had paid for a cheap holiday at the end of the season. The next morning on opening the balcony doors we were greeted by a lovely pool and seaview. The apartments are very well located even though they are near the national road, we didn't find it difficult to cross the road using the underpass or the road itself during quite times. Found the Alex bar a great place to chill and relax and have fun with the other residence, Toni always managed to keep us all entertained. There are plenty of nice shops and restraunts in stalis The Knossos, The Britannia Inn and El Greco to name a few, we found that eating out was cheap and spent an average of 45 euros inc drinks for the 4 of us to eat. We did eat at the Alex on the odd occassion and found the food cooked by Rania to be very nice and well presented and not expensive. The BBQ night on a sunday at the Alex is a must for anyone staying there. We very much enjoyed our holiday at the Alex and miss being there. Toni informed us before coming home that the Alex is due for a revamp ready for next season. We are very much looking forward to going back to the Alex for a family holiday again, we wouldn't stay anywhere else in Stalis.

Me and my family have just returned from 2 weeks in stalis and stayed at the villa alexandra. Our age group vaireied from 4yrs 7yrs 11yrs 18yrs 25yrs and 46yrs. The resort itself was excellent and we would definately go back. However we wont be staying at the villa alex. The accomodation was basic well maintained and overall clean apart from the dog s..t that was not cleaned away from outside our appartment door. We arrived early hours of the morning and there was no-one around to meet us, nothing was open and we didnt have so much as a bottle of water. Pavlous hardly acknowleged us all the time we were there as he only had time for the 18 to 30 customers as this is what these appartments are turning into. Toni was very nice and took the time to make us feel welcome.

just got back from 2weeks at villa alex the place was great clean the maid service was fantastic just a short walk two all the pubs and bars would go back again

Got back from Stalis a few weeks ago and absolutely loved it, would highly recommend the resort and the accomodation, and hope to be going back again next year!

just back from two weeks in crete stayed at the alex and enjoyed every minute of it. a big thanks to pavlos, toni and rania, and not forgeting wee nancie. the apartments are well run and are kept very clean the rooms are basic and the maids are in every day the pool is fantastic and a good night can be had at the pool bar. the only drawback is the main road it is sometimes a bit wild trying to cross unless you want to use the underpass.stalis has some great beaches the food is great and you have a wide choise of tavernas and more than a few pubs. already looking foreward to next years holiday

Just returned from two weeks at the Villa Alex.We thoroughly enjoyed the whole time,from the relaxing days by the pool to brilliant nights at the pool bar with all the fantastic new friends we made.Pavlos the magician and barman(and everything else)Toni the dancer and Rania the life saver(she makes a mean breakfast) a big thankyou for your hospitality and to all the friends we made thanks for a brilliant time. To nancy a special thanks you're a wee cutie. The rooms are basic but clean and the maids work hard every day to keep it that way, the linen and towels are changed on a regular basis.Stalis itself is quieter than its larger neighbours which is good when you eventually make your bed, but is central for visiting both. Eat before you go, the tavernas and restaurants in Stalis serve up an excellent variety of dishes and styles.All I can say is back on tour at the Alex next year. Roll on. Happy days

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Villa Alex and enjoyed every single minute of the holiday! The apartments were exactly as described, basic but very clean with regular fresh towels and sheets, a gorgeous, clean pool with plently of sunbeds and Alex's Bar was wonderful! Most of the apartments were full of families and the kids of all ages (toddler to 17) got on so well it meant parents could relax - or join in the water games!! The resort of Stalis was surprisingly quiet given the time of year. The beach was clean, the water warm and sunbeds were reasonable. As well as lots of bars for older teens there were some superb places to eat - local food including mousakka, calamari and souvlaki plus the usual pizza / pasta etc. Visits to Spinilonga and Water City were well worthwhile but you could easily spend 2 weeks at Villa Alex (the Sunday BBQ is a must) and have just as good a time. We had an excellent 2 weeks and have made some good friends and have some amazing memories. Pav, Toni and Nancy the dog are the best hosts possible and make all the guests feel like friends. Wonderful, Happy Days :)
