" I have just returned from Ayr and I... "

I have just returned from Ayr and I cannot stress how disappointed I was with the accommodation Haven offered us. This was a once a year holiday with my Grandchildren and it was a disaster. We arrived at 6.30 and were allocated a filthy mobile home, dirty stained duvets, ash on table broken units and drawer, nails sticking out of corner where trim was missing unsafe, loose ladders to bunk beds, I could go on and on. I went to reception and could not get a Manager to speak to, we were promised a cleaner would come we waited almost 2 hours and ended up going back to reception and were offered temp accommodation for one night at 10pm. Next morning back to reception, spoke to a Customer Service Manager who promised to "sort something". By 3pm we were still waiting and ended up organising our own alternative accommodation. Never book through Haven, I won't be.

" Would have gave this a big fat zero... "

Would have gave this a big fat zero but the lowest mark was a 1!!! Arrived on Friday 18th July to be met by a queue longer at the complaints desk than the queue waiting to check in - so we sort of knew it would be all downhill from then in........

The "Luxury" chalet we were allocated was as luxury as a jail cell in alcatraz - well come to think of it I think thats were Craig Tara obtained their beds for this chalet!! The TV unit was broken and the kitchen had the most horrendous smell in it and there were crumbs and sweets all over the floor.

Our next door neighbours in the chalet were hanging out the window blaring Rangers music at full blast and were evidently very very drunk at 3pm.

We hotfooted back to reception and waited in a queue for over an hour to be met by an obnoxious little man who said they had nothing else and we would have to stay in the chalet. Judging by the people all around us - we were not the only ones complaining about the chalets either - even heard one woman complain that a used sanitary item was discovered in her wardrobe..... nice.....

Eventually when we kicked up enough fuss we spoke to the manager who offered us a full refund - but even that came with a condition that we had to accept Haven vouchers - as if I would even consider setting my foot in a Haven site again.

We did accept eventually and left with 2 very upset children so we called in at Sundrum Castle a few miles away and they had a caravan to rent to us and oh my God what a difference. The place was lovely there were fresh flowers in reception, the 2 girls on reception and their manager could not have been more helpful.

A lady from Housekeeping came with our linen and again asked if everything was ok - the place was spotless and I would say to Haven to take a leaf out of Parkdean's books and maybe send your staff to them for training as they certainly know the meaning of customer service.

Let this be a warning to any of you who are booking with Haven!!!!! - DON'T

" I went to Craig Tara for a week in... "

I went to Craig Tara for a week in April. It was one of the best weeks of my life! The staff were very entertaining and hardworking. Also, there was shows during the day for kids and later at night in each showbar there was live acts and gameshows for both adults and kids. Bonga Wonga showbar is mostly for the kids and Atlantic showbar is more for adults. There are lots of stuff for the kids to do during the day with the entertainers, go swimming or bowling. I stayed in a caravan while i was there and was pleased with how clean it was. Craig Tara is a very safe enviroment and a great place for a family holiday.

" Our party consisted of 2 adults (the... "

Our party consisted of 2 adults (the mums) and the two children Aged 5 and 1 1/2. Whilst this type of holiday is not the usual thing we go on we thought we would give it a go. Cost £250 for Fri to Mon including the Funpass. We had upgraded from basis caravan to 2bed Superior. Def recomnend paying as much as you could for accomodation as some of the cheaper accomodation looked a bit suss from the outside although I cant comment on the interiors. I am an experienced traveller having been all around the world staying in no star accomodation (Thailand) to 5 star (USA) and don't normally write reviews as everyone is different but to anyone who is aprehensive about this place - you dont necessarily have to be. Yes it is full of chavs never seen so many football strips and white trousers with gold jewellery in my life but they are ordinary folk like anybody else and most of the time no bother in fact one of these folk handed in my lost purse with £200 in it so you cant judge by appearances! This type of holiday isnt really for you its for the wee ones who absolutely love it. The kids loved the kids club, the 2p slot machines to waste some time, the buffet breakfast which I thought was reasonable price £5.50 per adult and the outdoor park. Ok you have to pay for trampoline and for amusements but there was enough to do that didn't cost extra unless you wanted it too. Our caravan was dirty on arrival but cleaned within 1/2 hour of phoning we were in Arran Village which had a great view but with so much for the kids to do you are hardly in. Loudon Castle is nearby and the little ones (under 5s) can go on loads of rides there. This is dear though. The swimming at Craig Tara is one of the best childrens themed ones I have been to on ages but indoor play are no use for really little ones and again you have to pay for things. Yes they try to sell you light up toys at all he shows and photos but you dont have to buy them. All in all it is fine if you dont think about what you like but think about your kids who will have a great time.

" I had a good little break just... "

I had a good little break just weekend, £99 for 3 but I only stayed 2. It was clean enough but bit dated. Happy to go back as the park was fine and not far from home. Just not the best one I have been to.
I would never recommend chalets anywhere to people. As they are sooo old, why do peopl not expect them to be old and dated. I have seen loads while on Parks and would not consider them..

" We booked a week a Craig Tara's... "

We booked a week a Craig Tara's touring site and what an eye opener! The tiolet block was amazing and not for the right reasons. The mens toilets was constantly flooded and two of the toilets were falling through the rotten floor no way would you want to sit on them. If you found any toilet paper you were doing really well. The ladies were just as bad. The bins were always full and there was litter lying around. Only two of the parks lights worked at night and they were both at the same end. For the money your paying I thought that this would have been a site with fully sericed pitches think again this site is very basic and definatley not good value for money, but it does seem to be a favourite with travellers as there was quite a few using it as a base while they were working nearby although there are large signs on the park saying no commercial vehicles but then again this place seems to mislead quite a bit especially when it comes to the price of all the little extras like £5 to do one wash in the laundry! so if you've got kids be prepared, getting dirty is gonna cost a whole lot. Haven certainly knows how to charge for the little things that kids like too £2.50 each if you want to go bowling and no under fives don't go free everyone pays for everything at haven all you get for your passes is the swimming pool and the evening entertainment you pay for all the rest.

" I'm a 14 year old girl, and I've been... "

I'm a 14 year old girl, and I've been to Craig Tara with my family twice, and I'm about to go again on Friday.
We stay in a caravan, which has been bought by a family friend.

Theres alot of negative things being said about Craig Tara, but both times I've been, I have really enjoyed it.

Overall I'd say the park was good value, and well-kept for its size, and the amount of people who go. Some parts could be tidied up, I'll admit, and a lick of paint here and there would brighten the place up. But I think the park is great.

Our caravan is very spacious, considering how small it looks from the outside! It has 3 bedrooms, a large lounge, a small toilet, a average kitchen, and a few cupboards. The only thing I would say could be improved is the outside doors. These doors lead right out onto slightly rickety steps, and they are a big hazard for little ones.

The entertainment is very good I think. Theres not much to do through the day, unless you like play parks, or you have a bag full of money to spend on the arcades, but theres always the beach, which is unusally empty most of the time. The park is also right next to Heads Of Ayr Country Park? I love that place SO much. Its full out animals, and parks, and big bouncy things. Theres also quads, and loads for younger kids to do, which is always a bonus. The queue to get in takes quite a while, but its well worth the wait, and the money.
The nighttime entertainment is amazingly good standard. Theres various shows on at night, and you can go get a table, and buy drinks, then just stay there until the early hours. And if you get fed up of that, you can always go outside into the arcade for a while, then go back in.

The shops are great, and the food isn't bad.

The park is kinda overrun by typical chavs, but where can you got that isn't?! They're not THAT bad haha.

So overall, yeah. I'd reccomend this place :)

" Hi after reading reviews on here had... "

Hi after reading reviews on here had to come on and say that our family went to Craig Tara holiday park last year and had a great time my children varied in ages from 9yrs to 4 weeks and was plenty to do food was fine as some people say yes it gets repetitive but half board or all inclusive always tends to kids had the best time activities were good. On site was good park, swimming didn't even have time to do bowling with everything else we did fab for families and we are booked to go back next sat (7th June 2008) and kids really looking forward to it as are me and my husband. Chalets were basic but clean bedding was clean and pressed. Would defo recommend it to anyone with families especially school age children so much to do on site and near the site BRILL!!!!

" haven holidays is the perfect getaway... "

haven holidays is the perfect getaway for the young the old and the still young at heart mums dads as well as aunties and uncles or whatever your title might be i recently spent some time at the resort enjoying a full cooked or continental breakfast every morning as well as a choicefull menu for my evening meal entertainment was exciting and late night disco enough to make you want to sleep the rest of your holiday but not just the night life is best. The swimming pool keeps the children active and is a refreshing way to wake the adults after the night before. Outdoor parks play areas and sports arenas keep you on the go all day as well. easter break i spent with my mother who had never been a holiday for more than a day and youngest child she siad she had enjoyed every minute of it sadly my mother passed on two weeks ago but if haven gave her the time of her life as she had said it did then it must be a place where every generation can go spend time together have fun and never forget fond memories.

" we were extremely anxious about the... "

we were extremely anxious about the holiday after reading previous reviews.we also wanted to give a balanced and fair view of our stay.
previous reviews were centred around the lack of cleanliness in the chalets.on arrival we noticed that the chalet was very clean.they have fairly new carpets and the bedding was clean and pressed.we only heard 2 people complaining but these people were dealt with very courteously and swiftly.the staff were very friendly around the camp and very helpful.one downside was the litter around the waste disposal areas.when the bins were full near the collection day people were putting rubbish at the side of the bins as there was no room in the bins and the bin men collected the rubbish from the actual bin but left the rubbish on thre floor, however this had been cleaned up the next day.there was quite a lot of rubbish here and there around the camp but a lot of this was down to the guests not using the bins(there are loads of bins around so no excuses!)
another downside was the walls in the chalets which are paper thin!.on the whole people were considerate at night regarding noise, but as is the case you always get one who spoils it for the rest!
as for the previous comments about chavs and on the site,i have to say it's true!! i dont know if its a scottish thing but every other person seemed to be wearing a cap, sportswear and bling, which i have absolutely nothing against but i did purposely look to see if there was any substance to these comments.
we were half board and we found the food ok.obviously with catering for so many people things arent always going to be 100% but i think the catering staff did a good job.with the steak and kidney pie there was the inevitable overcooked edges which made the edges of the pastry hard but the taste wasnt compromised as with all the food.there were veggie options aswell.and there was plenty of fruit on display, however this wasnt checked as one or two bananas were very unripe!
finally the rest of the activites were fairly good the bowling alleys could do with a bit of an overhaul but the rest was very good, especially the fun pool.
