Submitted By: Mr P AnonymousBut what do all the people winging on here expect? Butlins is a profit making company and not a state owned leisure complex. So for the wingers to say that they are only out to get your money is a totally crap excuse for a bad holiday, Do they go around doing work or services for people for free? The whole point of a company is to make a profit for there shareholders etc.
So why do they go and expect everything to be free?
Butlins don’t say everything is free in there brochures or website, they clearly state that there are extra charges for some stuff.
I have always gone to Butlins knowing this and have always had a very good holiday,
We went 3 times this year and are going again in Dec 08; we went to Skegness twice and Minehead once.
We went in silver half board, the chalet was what you would expect from the equivalent of £15 per person per day and that included 2 very hearty meals a day,
Well find it cheaper and I guarantee you it would be a lot worse than what you get at Butlins. The chalet was clean, and presentable, cos I know I aint it the Ritz or staying in a £400 a night hotel.
We always go out shopping at Skegness and Ingoldmills during the day and also go to the seal sanctuary and spend the night watching the excellent shows (that are free), and even tho the alcohol is a little pricy you don’t HAVE to buy it, you can sit and watch it without any. (Beer & lager approx £2.70 a pint, coca cola approx £1.50 a glass so it’s around the same as my local pub give or take 20p)
I think all the people winging about it should pay 3 times as much and go to a posh hotel or sommat. Butlins never say it’s all free and are just another company trying to survive in hard times, I would prefer it to be as it is than not to have it at all……..
Me, the wife, kids and grandkids are looking forward to our next holiday in Dec

Submitted By: Miss M GallacherWe had to que up for a long time at the check in, children where very bored. The entertaintment was good if you have the patients to stand in a que for over an hour and then there is no guarentee you will get a seat, just be prepared to que up for long periods of time.
I found things were not expensive at all though, my young son enjoyed his stay, and my teenage daughters are bugging me to go back as they had a lot of freedom within the complex as it is secure so teenagers will love it and you dont have to worry about giving them a little freedom.
The beach is two minute walk away, would i go back again?? nooooooooooo

Submitted By: Miss S LoobyWe had a lovely silver apartment which was nice and clean however I understand they are not all like that and it would have spoilt our holiday had we not had such a clean room.
We went to see "Strike" as my little boy loves them and we had to queue from 5 - 6 p.m. just to get in and just about got a seat. Anyone that came in after that time would have struggled to get a seat. Strike did not come on until late and were on for no more than 2 minutes. Then we queued for over 1 hour (some people 2 hours) to get their autograph only to be told at the front of the queue that they would only autograph their own posters at a cost of £4.00. For this reason I would not visit Butlins just for the purpose of seeing one of the "stars" as it does bump the price up and there is no guarantee you will get to see them anyway.
HOWEVER, the rest of Butlins we found with a 7 year old and a 1 year old to be brilliant. There was a lot of things you had to pay for but the key is to make use of everything that is free and don't be drawn in to paying for things. Some parents just need to learn to say no without their child having a tantrum instead of moaning about the amount of money they spent. JUST SAY NO.
Not sure how different our holiday would have been if we had girls but for boys with football and all the sport it was brilliant and would recommend it especially for boys who enjoy sport.
We found to the food to be fine. We did not expect "fine dining" so we were not disappointed. The food was perfectly reasonable and even though we went on one of the busiest weeks of the year (August bank holiday) we very rarely had to queue for food other than 1 or 2 indecisive people and always got a table no problem.
We found everywhere to be clean and tidy and our room was based at the far end by the fairground but it was not noisy or anything. No idea about the other end as we did not venture down that way.
We paid £850.00 for a week which was quite expensive considering we paid for entertainment we didn't bother going to see after our experience with Strike but we just made use of the other areas where you did not have to queue and had a perfectly enjoyable holiday.

Submitted By: Mrs A.M HILLWe absolutely loved it! We stayed half board in a silver apartment. It was spotless (and I am fussy), everything we needed, TV, comfy beds, although take an extra pillow or u'll be folding the one on your bed into quarters! Everything in the kitchen for lunch making. Take your own food as the shops on site are pretty expensive.
The meal times were fantastic, you could choose what you wanted and how much you wanted...
Entertainment was great although to get into the clubs you have to start queing early which we didn't enjoy. You CAN take in kids soft drinks and snacks (yes you read right).
The swimming is just fun fun fun!
You are allowed out of the resort, there's the nature seal sanctuary on the front.
All in all we had a great time and went back 3 more times after that!!

Submitted By: Miss K DuncanWe'd booked a Gold apartment and were excited to see the exclusive gold reception. However, we had to treck from one side of the park to the other just to find it, bags in tow as we were told we could leave them in the reception until check in at 2pm.
When we got there, we were greated by 1 red coat (possibly the only one we seen for the whole week) and an extreamly rude receptionist who informed us we could not infact leave our luggage there and told us to go back all the way to other end of the park and leave our bags with the standard/silver reception. When a member of my Family questioned this, they where pulled to one side, had a brochure shoved infront of them and ordered to find where it said we could leave our luggage in the gold reception, as it MUST have been a miss print. This left the member of my family very embarrassed, distressed and belittled.
The point of a gold reception must be purely for show, as it looks very nice and fancy, but they were no help at all.
When we where allowed in our apartment, we found the so called "gold standard" kitchen work tops crawling with ants. We had to stay out of the apartment while it was sprayed, although this didn't do much to stop them.
The apartment was extreamly basic, fold down metal beds, the type you'd use for camping maybe. Also, there were burn marks in the carpets of one bedroom and the furniture (sofas, ect.) where very uncomfortable.
Well, we decided to looked on the brighter side of things and thought we'll be out and about all of the time, we'll only be sleeping in the apartment.
If only that was the way, everything to do in that place (when you have children with you) closes no later 6pm, even the gates to the beach. It's like being in prison.
And the "fun fair" consists of a few hired out rides in the car park. It was a joke.
Then there are few adult clubs which look very nice but are over run by children going wild.
To top it all off, there was a terrible virus in the water of the camp which nobody had been informed of when we were there, and my whole family including me caught it and had to spend the last days of the holiday in an ant infested apartment with diarrhea and vomiting.
The only thing that makes me rate this holiday at 2 instead of 1 is the fact we booked it whilst there was a half price deal going on.
Never again!

Submitted By: Mrs BJ SmithWe went silver half board for 3 nights and found the rooms to be clean if a little tatty. The carpets need replacing as they are dirty and worn and the furnishings are dated and tired. Still, we didn't go there to sit in the apartment! The beds were clean and the room had everything we needed.
We were assigned 'Ocean Drive' diner for our food. The place is enormous, you would never have to worry about not getting a seat in here. Dinner choices were dishes such as chilli con carne, curry, pasta bake, roast, kids meals (fish fingers, sausages etc), jacket spud, salad bar, hot puddings, cakes, ice cream, tea, coffee, fruit squash. You can go up as many times as you like (and we certainly did!). Breakfast was cereal, grapefruit, yogurt, toast and jam, sausages, eggs, bacon, omlette, beans etc. The cooked breakfast items were not so good. The eggs were mostly inedible. Overall though, food was fine.
There are many facilities on site such as free funfair (a bit limited - not many rides but fun nonetheless), quasar, cinema, fun pool, arcades, snooker hall, bowling, internet cafe. The pool is very good as is the best thing on offer at this site. There is a charge for some of the activities although the prices are reasonable. Evening entertainment was the usual blend of kids character shows, cabaret, bingo etc all of a very high quality.
Didn't try the other food outlets as we were half board but the food looked absolutely fine.
We had an absolute blast at Butlins Skegness and have already booked to go again next year. Highly recommended!

Submitted By: Mr J CrowsonThe restaurant selection is slightly dissapointing and quite expensive..... Wasn't impressed with the service in 'The Sun & Moon' 1st visit we arrived at about 8:45pm and by the time we had got to the bar (there was a queue) we were told we could'nt order any food..... 2nd visit was slightly better although we opted in for the free salad bowl with our meals which meant you could eat as much as you wanted from a carousel.... they cleared all this away after only one helping so had to ask them to bring it all out again......!
Supermarket was quite expensive too so I suggest an out of resort visit to the Morrisons or Tesco supermarkets!
Entertainment was BRILLIANT!!! So much for the kids and adults. Centre stage has a great atmosphere and we especially enjoyed 'The Carl Johns Experience' REDS was our favourite though for pure variety and the very talented REDCOATS!!! The Skyline also has a lot to offer for everyone.
Splash Waterworld is a lot of fun!!! Lots of space for everyone and the slide systems are so much fun!!!

Submitted By: Mrs J MunroWe stayed in a Gold self-catering apartment. It was clean and well furnished, including leather sofas, flat screen TV and DVD player.
I really couldn't fault anything. There was so much for the kids to do, some of it was included in the price and some wasn't. But less face it, if we stayed in a caravan or cottage we would have spent so much more - especially trying to find things to keep the kids amused. My advice would be to make the most of the free activities and shows etc.
Have read so many bad reviews, but please don't listen to them all. I have stayed in silver accomodation previously and found it to be fine also.
