A fantastic 3 days adult weekend break
9 / 10
Feb 2012, benson

Just back from a 3 night weekend break. Booked the silver room, still basic but the whole weekend cost so little you get what you pay for. I would say it was a very cold weekend and the rooms are not heated on your arrival, its left to you to put the 1 heater on and it took 24 hours to really warm through, so the first night was a little chilly. Entertainment fantastic, Ray Lewis and the drifters absolutley fantasic!! Sunday night was the best night with also Jaki Graham and of course weekend would not be complete without Keith Harris still funny after seeing him sevral times before. Food is very good something for every taste, if you have a sweet tooth you will enjoy the puddings. The one thing I didn't understand is Why are all these women going to breakfast in their Pajama's?? I do think Butlins should have some standards and stop this before it is out of control!!

lots to do, a great family holiday! although no perfect.

we arrived at butlins and couldnt find any parking.
once i found parking i had to lug two kids half a mile to the reception to get the keys, then walk back to the car and some how get the luggage to the room with two kids on tow which was a fair walk, i wouldnt reccomend going on your own with kids. luckyly my partner carried all the luggage and made several trips to and throw.
there are lots to do, i stayed for 3 nights and there wasnt enough time to relax with a cuppa or a break as we were rushing around trying to fit everything in.
i went for the premium dining and it was lovely, its so nice after running around all day to just pick up a plate and grab some food, theres something for everyone, the kids had lots of choice and im a vegeterian and enjoyed the pasta dishes with garlic bread.
i picked the silver bungalow accomodation and it was nice although the tv was rubbish, not alot to watch. would be nice to have some sort of freeveiw with a record option as i missed all the soaps!
beds were ok, not the most compfortable but i was nakard by the time i went to bed so i managed to sleep anyway. you can hear every noise from outside which also makes it hard to sleep,
be aware that the pool is cold! i found the kids were freezing and my youngest was only 4 months old! he went blue.
i do think butlins is a great holiday and my 2 year old loved it especially the bob the builder land!
but wish that the better accomodation was a bit cheaper as my partner and i would of liked to watch a movie when the kids are in bed, theres not alot to do as a couple, it is all about the kids.
we are booking again for 2012 in the dulux accomodation so we can have a better time aswell although this will cost us £500 in stead of £300 for 2 adults and 2 kids.
i also left my camcorder in the room and was allready back in cornwall.
i phoned customer services and they arranged for it to be posted to me for £10 which was very reasonable as it was heavy.

Great Value

Just got back from an adult "school renunion" week end, staying in basic accommodation, half board. It was great value for money!Have been to these sort of weekends befor staying in several different grades of accommodation and have always been happy with the value.Basic is basic but this time i thought the furniture and decor had been upgraded from the last time I stayed,so was very happy with the ammount of storage.Beds are a bit small in the twin rooms so be prepared.Remember on adult only weekends that the nights are late and loud...join in or accept and take ear plugs!!This is not a complaint..live and let live...its only 3 nights...so enjoy!!!I alway enjoy the food and eat far too much..but expect school dinners not haut cuisine...remember what you paid!!!I am a big fan of Butlins, entertainment is great value too.The tribute acts are always top quality and there are some original line ups mixed in.All in all BRILLIANT value.

Neighbours from hell!

We took our two young boys on a long weekend, which began really well as we greatfully recieved a free upgrade! However this soon turned into a nightmare. We were put opposite a group of 18ish year old girls (which we didn't think single sex groups were allowed) who spent the two nights we actually stayed banging doors, shouting and bring men back to the room until around 4am!!!! Our children really enjoyed the facilities and entertainment however we cut our stay short due to complete lack of sleep! When discussing this with the check out staff we recieved a "Oh well sorry bout that"?! This wasn't the family enviroment we have believed it to be on all the advertising. Quite disappointed. :-( Now crossed off our list as a place to return.

This is the 3rd time we've been to Butlins Minehead in the last year. I've got a 4 month old and a 15 month old and firstly went with a 3 month, then when she was 7 months and now 15 months. We all have a great time when we're there. I've stayed in standard accommodation all three times with the food court option. There is a wide choice of food, but nothing too special, so don't get too excited about that, but it is definitely cheaper than going self-catering. Because our kids are so young, we dont have to pay for anything extra, they enjoy the daytime and nightime entertainment and the eldest was dancing around and taking part in the dances. They have a lovely nursery there where you can go for mother and baby sessions and a few little playparks. I have a few tips. My first holiday cost £90 for 2 adults and 1 infant self-catering in Sept for 4 nights, my second £153 half board in April for 4 nights, and last week cost me £40 room only and bought the food option on arrival for £73 and I've just booked another holiday in May in a deluxe suite with food court for £200. I hear stories of people telling me their holiday cost over £500!!! That is extortion and it is no way in my mind worth that much at all. Keep checking the website for offers, and i have saved £20 each time off the web price by phoning up. If you can get a cheap enough deal, its definitely worth the money, but bear in mind, my kids are still really small

Just been to minehead butlins. smelly rooms dirty carpets, mixmatched chairs. It's about time they replaced their furniture and cleaned or replace their carpets. Only one exit in the food hall open for everyone to get in and out of, fire exit doors with tape across not very health and safty is it.
not cheap go on most things at a price.A good range of food some times hot most times not. stock up on washing powder if you go to butlins you will have to wash everything when you get home to wash out the awfull smell of the rooms.

What does it matter if the food was cold? why spoil your quality family time by moaning about every little tiny detail? if you dont like something change it and make it fun. Every time we go we find a minor problem (cold food, long queues etc) but what does it matter? im with my kids and hubbie so i couldn't be happier!!

PLEASE READ;- IF you are reading this, you are obviously thinking of going to Butlins Minehead, hopefully you have not booked it yet. My partner and 9yr old son have just got back. We paid for 7nights stay (Friday to Friday) we came home on the Monday. Firstly we paid for room only in Silver accomodation,we paid for breakfast and evening meal at the food court. Accomodation not fantastic, but then it was silver. We went to the food court on our first night for our evening meal,I have never been so disgusted in my life,it was like feeding time at the zoo (no wonder there are sooo many reviews on here of people getting food poisoning) You are not served your food,it is basically help yourself, unfortunatly some people did just that,by picking food up with their hands and decidin they didnt want it and threw it back again. No body queued up,it was a case of grab your tray and plate and put as much as you can on it before anybody else gets anything. I personally felt an accident waiting to happen,as you had adults, young children, walking around with trays of hot food, barging in to you. My son had chicken, which was like card board,my partner had fish which was soaked in grease. I felt sick just looking at people acting like vultures (its free so im getting all i can before any one else. We did complain that night and got a full refund on the money we had paid to eat in the restaurant,to be honest it didnt help matters as not much of choice where you can eat, that wasnt tooo expensive or nice to eat.Only place we did have decent food and good service was Pizza Hut.I personally do not like to encourage my child to constantly eat JUNK,but unfortunatley we had no choice. DO NOT be fooled into thinking everything is FREE once on site,it isnt`t.Expect to pay £5.00 + for activities that only last 5mins (we did time them). As for fun fair yes rides are FREE,but do not expect more than 10 rides as there isn`t even that there. Please note, fun fair shuts at 6PM. If you have got loads of money and don`t mind wasting money, and doin the same thing day after day then go to Butlins. We phoned Butlins when we left,as we could not go and see anybody as customer service closed at 9pm,i was asked why i left resort early, when i told them why i was asked if i had holiday insurance,to which i replied why would i as im staying in u.k. I was advised to write in explaining everything why i left, and they would get back to us within 28 days.

My 13 yr old daughter and 15 yr old son wanted to go after seeing it on the internet so I decided to make the 3 1/2 hour drive to Minehead from ST Ives Cornwall for a day trip. The waltzer was closed, the cage was being operated but the operater decided to leave the controle box and do what ever it was he did (I vidioed this as I thought to myself blimey if this wason a fairground there would be hell to play), the staff looked as though they did not want to be there (the only smile I got was from the lady on the rollaball and from the lady waving at the enterance) All the rides looked tired and generly speaking it was a let down. We went into the shops and the staff could not even be bothered to greet you with a simple smile and hello. ALTHOUGH PRAISE WHERE IT IS DUE WHEN THE FIRE ALARM WENT OFF IT WAS EVACUATED VERY QUICKLY AND CALMLY. My kids wanted to go after an hour I wont be going back. After paying £46.00 entry fee i was very dissapointed and so wrere my kids DONT GO

Our first visit to Butlins

When we arrived everything was well organized and plenty of staff who were friendly, welcoming and helpful. We were very pleased with the nice silver apartment that we booked, it was lovely and clean and plenty of storage space and a nice modern clean kitchen area. There was a maid service who came tidied up and made the beds for us.
We had booked half board, which meant breakfast and evening meals. There was plenty of choice and as we stayed for a week we found we could eat something different every day.
Our two kids, aged 9 and 13, loved Splash Waterworld, but there were long queues for the rides and one of the pools had to be closed when we went as someone had a poo in it! We felt safe allowing our children to go together by themselves as there were plenty of lifeguards and pool attendants.
We had good fun on the funfair and the staff are very safety conscious on the rides.
There was plenty of entertainment in the evening and our kids loved the karaoke in the irish bar.
The Spar shops on site are very expensive, Eg pringles £2.85 in Asda £1! There is a Tesco and a Morrisons just 2 minutes drive round the corner which is much cheaper.
We drove to Lynmouth one day, which we found very scary driving up and down the very very steep roads and nearly burned the clutch and brakes out on a couple of occasions. When we got there it was a bit boring for the kids, it seemed to be full of old people, dogs and expensive shops but we ate some nice fish and chips on the seafront and didn't stay too long. The shops in Minehead were much better.
The staff at Butlins are really polite and helpful and the redcoats are great fun.
It's a pity that we didn't have great weather on the week we went but it was great value for the what we paid, about £37 per person per day, and the kids loved it.
We would definitely consider coming back for another break and would recommend it for families with young kids and teenagers. It was great to be able to relax and take a break while we knew the kids could do their thing and we knew they would be safe.

arrived on the monday and entered silver chalet. Rubbish under one bed and clothes, including dirty knickers in one wardrobe. No toilet rolls. Complained to the cleaner who could not speak English, got toilet rolls, she would tell her supervisor about other problems. By Wednesday nothing had happened so I saw customer services. By this time we had found the plug to the microwave was broken, when pulling it from the socket it opened up allowing fingers to touch the wires inside. A rep arrived onthe thursday and let them selves into the chalet,by chance I arrived while she was still in there. I showed her the clothes, the plug, told her about the rubbish and enquired if there should be a salad box in fridge. I aslo mentioned the holes in the settes.
we were promised a replacement micro wave and possible a box for fridge(my concern was thatwe didnot get the blame for it missing). Her main concerned was that the ladder for the bunk beds had been taked off. I explained that it was lose and with the 18 month and 4 year disabled granddaughters in the room with didnot think it would be safe. We assured here it would be refitted. The outcome was she took the clothes and nothing happened about the microwave or the fridebox. On leaving on the following Monday I lefy a note on the microwave to say do not use dangerous. I wonder if anyone has had a shock? Butlins is expensive, alot of things you have to pay extra for.The food is expensive and poor quality mostly frozen vegitables, £8.95 for 3 sausages a scoop of mash and baked beens. And not to mention the mad woman banging on the doors shouting abuse late at night, what happened to security? Dont bother at £1250 for 4 adults and 2 children for 7 nights never again!
