" half term holiday "

After reading several reviews on this site about Butlins the day before we were due to go,i was dreading my holiday.Would it be a holiday to forget? No it was brilliant! We booked a room but maybe because they were busy we were put in an apartment which was brilliant.Everything was nice and clean and well up to standard, the park is quite big we took our little boy there and he loves swimming. We were straight into the pool, went on the slides and the dinghy ride great. At tea time we went for tea the food was great and lots of it. Breakfast was the same, the staff are great i couldnt think of a single thing to fault and the shows at night they were brilliant too i would have paid to see the circus show that was fantastic. we usualy go to centre parcs and i would say that butlins are not that far behind we booked to go again next year.

Advice: great steam train 20 miles of track

" Brilliant fun 70s weekend "

Firstly after reading all the other review on here, I can only say your expectations must be a great deal higher than mine. I thought £100 for dinner, bed and breakfast for 3 nights and a full programme of entertainment was brilliant value.
We stayed at a silver apartment and although it was a bit shabby round the edges it was clean. Butlins staff from the bookings team to the cleaners on site were very good and friendly.
Food not of a particulary high standard but certainly edible.
Entertainment first rate, great fun. Bar a bit pricey as you would expect.
Only thing I would say is there are more toilet facilities needed in Reds and Main Event, but maybe they are adequate during normal family weeks.
Definately comiong again.

" MINEHEAD BELSIN "

Just arrived back from Minehead Butlins. After reading some of the reviews on this site about damp and smelly I thought I would brave it anyway as my Asmatic wife cant get enough damp and mold.
Firstly we arrived in the dark which can only be classed as a small mercy. We stopped in holincote village where there were rows and rows of auschwitz style accomadation. The rooms were damp and basic although they were functional. The beds were a throwback from the 40's and I can only assume the origianl sturdy bedframes had gone towards making munitions in Schindlers factory.
The redcoats were the most proffesional thing there and went about their duties with an almost german efficiency.
The activites were good though and the swimming pool was excellent although for obvious reasons I didnt dare brave the showers.
The underclasses were out in masses and with reference to my comments earlier Butlins Minehead would have been a great place to have started the 2009 final solution.
In short it's cheap accomidation with expensive activites and more arcade machines than you could fire an 88 at.
AND BUTLINS STOP KIDDING US BY SAYING 'SORRY ABOUT THE CHANGE' and then magically only having £1 coins not notes..... I'll spend as little or as much in your arcades as I want and suggestive psychology will not work me....

Advice: TAKE PLENTY OF CHANGE

" it is what it is. "

me and my partner have just returned from butlins in minehead after a four night break after collecting the tokens from the sun newspaper.we are in our early 40s and holidayed without our children.we stayed in silver plus accomodation which had been recently refurbished and found it very clean and well equiped.the heating and hot water was excellent and the furnishings and beds were very comfy and the kitchen area well stocked with utensils...now butlins is what it is and its not everyones cup of tea but everyone there is trying to give their families a holiday so they cant be that bad and on the whole the chav count wasnt that high.the staff were hard working and polite and helpfull and that included the foriegn workers whose english was better than some of the holidaying natives.we use butlins as a base for days out so dont spend much time on site..we had 2 great days walking on exmoor and the coast line..also went on the steam railway and spent an afternoon on a landrover safari spotting red deer, buzzards and exmoor ponies on exmoor all for less than you would shove in the arcades back at butlins.we self catered but the food looked lovely and the restraunts were very nicely styled.so dont be put off by some of the reviews on here but accept butlins for what it is...and enjoy your holiday

Advice: its allroight my lover

" Filthy "

First time at Butlins Minehead I visited with my partner and 10 year odl daughter, having been to Bognor Regis Butlins several times I was expecting the same standard, how wrong was I. I have divided the review up into parts.
Accomodation:
We had a 2 bedroom Silver room, fromt he outside it looked ok and was in a really good location just a minutes walk to the dining room and about 2-5 mins to all the entertainment venues and funfair. The inside was okish, both bedrooms were clean and tidy with more tham ample storage space, the bed covers were clean and the curtains met int he middle (in my experience of butlins this is not always so), the bathroom was gross the shower curtain was mouldy as were the tiles around the shower.I gave it a little clean but some of it was too ingrained.
Food:
Foul, foul, foul.I actually lost weight because I although the breakfast was passable so I ate a large fry up in the mornings the evening meal was almost inedible. The meat was the cheapest money could buy, the veg so watery it was swimming and the curry was not curry it was cheap meat floating in some nasty tomato sauce I couldnt even eat the pasta as it was completley over cooked and stuck to the plate. The only thing I will say is the children's meals that are made by Annabell karmel are very good and my daughter really enjoyed the chicken curry, paella and the lasagne.
Entertainment
Did not go to most of it as we enjoyed walking round the arcades and my daughter loves watching Karoke on the Irish Pub, this is prob one of the better bars as you can actually get a seat. We went to reds one night and although we were quite far to the the back of the queue we got a seat it was just a shame the woman doing the kylie tribute could not sing. We went to Centre Stage but it was full by about 7pm and we did not want to stand up all night.
The pool was great the queues for the slides were fine, the chnaging rooms however were really dirty and disgusting and the lockers keep breaking. The fair ground was ok but some of the rides were not open while we were there.
The best days we had were when we left the resort, the surrounding countryside is amazing and Dunster village is well worth a visit. There are lots of places to go nearby and the beach is fantastic, really big and sandy.

" day visit "

My husband myself and our three granddaughters aged 14, 13 and 3 spent the day at Butlins minehead yesterday 1.09.09.
We had a wonderful day.
We arriv ed at the camp at 12.30 after having a picnic lunch on the promenade in Minehead. It was a showery day with heavy rain at times, but our day was full.
The two older girls spent a very happy two hours in the swimming pool and we had to drag them away. It was huge and full of things for them to do.
We spent alot of time in the skyline where the entertainment for our 3 year old granddaughter was first class, with music, dancing, fun and mesmerising acrobatics.
The funfair was dated but still fun for all of us.
We found the toilets very clean and the dome itself was constantly being cleaned. Everything very reasonable priced and staff very friendly. Couldn't fault it at all. We left at 7 p.m. (only supposed to be there as a day visitor until 6) and we could have stayed there longer as we hadn't seen everything and the girls were having such a good time.
A very reasonably priced day out for our family and I would recommend it to everyone who has children.

" Filth and flooding "

Firstly can I just say that you all need to contact the Environmental health as I did today the phone number for the Minehead area is: [--], and report your experience.
I just got back from minehead, and was lucky enough to get moved to a lodge and enjoyed the last two nights of our stay.
When we first arrived in our "silver"? chalet, the first thing we noticed the smell of sewage coming from the kids bedroom, and indeed the rest of the chalet as a result.
the carpet was wet and the source of the smell.
When I told a member of staff she insisted that a window had been left open and rain had got in and they had tried to dry the carpet by leaving the heater on.
They did offer us alternative accomadation at this point but it looked worse than the one we had!(reminded me of slums)
We exepted this and moved the kids beds (with their help) into the kitchen dinner, not ideal but I was'nt letting the kids sleep in the bedroom.
We were told the smell would soon go, they changed the section of underlay and left the heater on.
However the smell did not go, the kids spent the night in the kitchen, and me and my wife tried to sleep in the other bedroom.
My wife ended up in with the kids, and I could taste the sewage in my sleep.
In the morning I went to complain.
I told them that I was a builder (which I am) and I knew that it was not due to rain, as I only noticed in the morning that there is a 4ft roof overhang outside the window, and would take the fire brigade to get water through there!
I told them I knew exactly what the problem was, and where it was coming from.
Which was flooding, basically from what I can see the drainage is insufficient drainage, and when it rains the drains "back up", causing foul water to come back up through the shower traps.
They looked at me speachless!
They told me to go to reception as I had requested a refund!
When I got there, there was a set of keys waiting for me for a luxury lodge.(which was nice but I wouldnt even call that luxury.
It is a shame about the accomodation as we found the entertainment fantastic, and we an the kids loved it.
When we got home we discovered we had got worms and had to take some medication! yelch!
Please report you experiance to Envioromental health, because if you just moan nothing will get done!

Advice: Great Cider!

" Butlins Minehead Is Great!!! "

We stayed in a caravan in the Lakeside part of the butlins camp, it was great, peace and quiet, little area for the little people to run about on and all you need to set up base for a holiday for a family with a laundry close by. I would certainly suggest hiring a caravan, its still only a 5/10 minute walk to the skyline and other facilities close by. the facilities therre are brilliant, if you have little people this is great. Most of the things are free (bob the builder land, all the quality climbing areas, funfair) with only a few things to pay for and even then its only a couple of quid. I can't recommend butlins minehead enough really. This certainly will keep little people happy and if their happy you have a good holiday!
Even the town close by isn't too bad and the beach is fantastic

Advice: The A39 to Minehead is a bit of a bind but getting to Minehead is worth the wait

" Fun But Expensive "

Don't listen to all the people who moan about it. Because people just moan about everything and need to get out more.
Accomodation: We stayed in a Silver plus apartment. Room was OK but needed a bit of work and had a weird smell but its not as bad as other people say.
Entertainment: entertainment is really good as long as you can get a good seat. So i suggest getting there 30mins early to get a good seat (even earlier for events such as Stars of Britains got talent etc.). The best shows are Circus Hilarious, African Acrobats, Titan The Robot, Superslam Wrestling & Latino Circus.
Food: Bar Rosso is a lot cheaper than the Costa coffee so go there for drinks, Burger king is good but more expensive than normal, Finnigans is expensive but tasty, Don't bother with the noodle bar there is never anyone there & Pizza Hut is just like any ordinary one.
Leisure: Adventure golf is quite expensive, Arcade is BRILLIANT!! Cinema is total rubbish. Funfair ok but outdated and could fit a lot more in. Go karts are really good and worth £4. Jumping pillow is really expensive. But splash Waterworld is quality, i suggest going in the late afternoon around 3-5. The wave machine is really fun. Lazy river really good. Mater Blaster is really fun but expect a 15-20 minute wait. Blue Comet is fun and really wet and so is the black hole. to go faster down lie on your back but watch out that on the black hole you dont get bruising on your back.
All the shops are good but expensive.Especially the mega treats store that has loads of really nice confectionary.
Redcoats are really nice and helpful. Some of the staff are Polish but they can understand English and guest services are really useful. If you ask for something doing they will come round in a couple of hours and do it straight away.
Conclusion: Good fun but prepare to get your wallet out!

Advice: Go To Tescos instead of the supermarket, 5min walk down the road, lot cheaper than Butlins

" A Nice Surprise But Expensive "

Having read all the previous reviews I was really worried about going but we were pleasantly surprised when we arrived: our SilverPlus appartment was really nice, very clean and it was very quiet nearby. The activities/entertainment was good and the housekeeping staff were brilliant - really polite/helpful: when our shower wouldn't work they repaired it in 10 minutes and when we broke 2 plates they were replaced in 30 minutes with polite follow-up texts. The redcoats were polite too and hard-working. However, the big down-side is that everywhere you go there are vending machines and things to spend your money on and most things are really expensive. Also a lot of the activities are not free and expensive. The funfair was only part free and seemed very old and in need of updating.
To sum up: we had a great time, will go again but next time we'll take lots of money and be prepared to spend it.

Advice: Go but take lots of money

" FIRST AND LAST TIME!! :o( "

I went to Butlins Minehead at the start July 2009 for 5 days, we came over from Belfast. We booked a caraven through a private owner. Myself and my husband took our 6 year old son and 6 year old friend. When we arrived at the caravan we thought it was nice and we went for a walk to the Skyline Pavilion. That wasnt too bad but everthing in there you had to pay for - it was £5 for this and £5 for that. Then we went for a walk outside, the fun fair wasnt too bad as it was free and there wasnt a long wait to get on the rides. There were 2 parks that were good. But other than that everything the children wanted to go on you had to pay for. Then we went to the swimming pool, we got there at 4:15 and it closed at 5:00 - I cant understand why they would close the pool so early in the summer holidays. We went swimming anyway for 45 minutes. The pool was the best part of the holiday - we all loved it, but the downside was that the changing rooms were disgusting. The floor was filthy, it smelt of poo as the toilets we full and never flushed and alot of the doors didnt lock. The weather didnt help as it rained everyday and because the caravans were a good 10 minute walk from the Skyline we missed so many shows as we would have been soaked by the time we got there. We couldnt wait until the Friday morning came for us to leave. I would NEVER EVER go back. Anyone considering booking a holiday at Bulins Minehead be prepared to spend at least £100. So we are booked up already to go to Majorca next year, roll on the sun, sea and sand!!!!

Advice: Rubbish, dont waste your money - total rip off!!!!

" Not Good "

Just returned yesterday and to be honest I was happy to get back home, don't get me wrong I love Butlins, my family and I went to the Skegness site only 2 months ago and it was that good that we decided on booking another Butlins holiday immediately, sadly we made the mistake of booking the Minehead one instead.
Wow just where did it all go wrong, just about everything that was good on the Skegness site site seemed to be the total opposite here, on arrival we were directed to the skydome to book in, on route we went past the fair, I was going to write funfair there but I quickly corrected myself, It would appear that the only update that has been made to the site since the 70s is the change of staff and the arcade machines.
On booking in we had to wait over 40 minutes and when we finally did get to the front of the queue we were quickly given a welcome pack with our key cards in and informed to go in that direction, not the most hospitable welcome ever...
On finding the room we were staying in I honestly did not know whether to laugh or cry, honestly would it not kill them to have a repaint, the room looked drab and uninspired, although to be fair it was clean and that has to be the fastest ever hot bath I have ever run in my life, I even timed it 48 seconds flat !!!.
I could go on moaning for a while i'm afraid so ill cut it down to my biggest bug bearer the bloody food court, how come the food choice is Skegness was impressive and varied, yet here it was well below par with very little choice, the breakfast was an absolute joke, being an Englishman I love the full English breakfast so let me explain just what I got on my plate...
Bacon: Stuck together in a weird sort of meat blob and cold.
Eggs: How can you have cold runny eggs, that amazed me really.
Mushrooms: On been given just four, I asked the how shall we say European worker for a few more, he just smiled and gave me black pudding !!!
Beans: Ok actually but to be fair you cant really go wrong.
Sausage: Sadly again they were cold, although they did look nice before attempting to eat them.
Grapefruit juice: Only availible in one of the five machines available.
I think that about covers that, just for the record the account of the food listed above remained exactly the same throughout the week, as for the main course well again the list could go on so I wont bore you with my moaning but would just like to state that my bowel movements have never been so active, sorry about that but its true.
Anyway ill sum it all up with this, if you want to go to Butlins and feel appreciated and have a great holiday as well as have great food and entertainment please go to the Skegness site, if your not a big fan of a nice relaxing holiday or food or basically happiness then I could not recommend this site any higher.

Advice: Seemed nice, some amazing sights

Activities: Sadly only ate at the Butins site

" Excellent! "

Me and my partner stayed at butlins minehead for 4 nights. We camped on the touring park. The toilets on the whole resort are very clean including the ones on the touring park. Showers on the touring park were absolutly lovely.
The swimming pool on resort is amazing! All different water slides (MASTER BLASTER BEING THE BEST) The pool also has a wave machine, a river rapid going around the back of the pool, a beach area of the pool and an olympics pool. It also has a small pool for the little ones.
The entertainment is brilliant, and the red coats are very nice. Nice bars and food all round.
Lots of things to do and see which will certainly make the little ones tired each day so adults you will have a peaceful nights sleep lol!

" our blueskies holiday "

me and my family just spent a week in the blueskies seafront appartments, the appartments are beautiful inside, they are spacious, modern and clean. we ate in the yacht club, there was plenty to choose from, something for all tastes. the meals were very gud and the staff were polite. on the camp the children had plenty to do and enjoyed the fruit mine outdoor play area, as well as the bob the builder mini fair, although the fair is looking abit tired. the pools were great indoor and out, for the teenagers the high wires were fun but abit overpriced at £25 per child. the butlins entertainment was fantastic, the redcoats worked hard on the shows and they were enjoyable for young and old. there were big queues for the centre stage club, the problem being that there was a tiny lift for disabled people or mothers with prams. once in the club we were never disappointed, there was a fantastic cartoon network show for the youngsters. In reds club there were late nite shows such as abba, tom jones, and micheal jackson tribute shows. although the entertainment was repeated through the week, we found this gave us the chance to see everything. a fantastic week, although it was an expensive holiday we all enjoyed it, the children in our party ranged from 3 yrs to 15 yrs, we felt there was something for all.

Advice: the beach was clean and well looked after. we felt welcome everywhere we visited, a lovely place.

Activities: the local market was nice, and we enjoyed a trip around the local area, including dunster castle.
