Duminy Vendome Hotel

I live in London, so am used to not get much for my money. That said, £101 a night for a shoe box of a double room, with NO air conditioning seemed a bit extreme, but I guess the location is excellent - a few minutes walk from the Louvre and excellent Musee D'Orsay, and within easy access of an l'OpenTour bus route - something very worthwhile doing on a Sunday (25 Euro) Anyway, the hotel staff were friendly enough, and prepared to speak English, and even tolerate some beginner's French, without being too patronising. What a find! The hotel was in a fantastic location. 5 min walk to the Louvre, and 1 min to the metro, although we walked to all the locations as the hotel is placed in such a central location. The rooms had just been renovated and we had a king size bed and plenty of room. There was no view from the room but the size of the room was more than adequate and we had a huge bathroom with excellent shower. We stayed here from June 5 - 11. This is a clean hotel located in a quiet street behind Rue De Rivoli, just a block around the corner from Paris Vision Tours, across from Tulieres Metro and Garden. The Location is indeed great, very central, and just minutes from Louvre. There are souvenier shops all along the Rue de Rivoli, as well as cafes around, and touristy. The location of the hotel was perfect! We were in walking distance to The Louvre, Jardin des Tuilleries and most Paris attractions. There were fabulous restaurants nearby, as well. The staff was was sweet and most helpful. The only downside was the size of the rooms. Most were very small but who spends time in the rooms when you are in Paris?! And, I guess for those rooms that face the street, there is some "street noise". But after a day and night of walking the streets of Paris, sleep was never a problem. Absolutely excellent!!! Friendly, helpful staff go out of their way to provide a good service. We had a junior deluxe suite that was huge, with a very large bathroom. Very central location, so walking distance to everywhere.

If you're expecting a Las Vegas room, forget about it. The rooms are tiny. The elevator fits 2 people and 1 piece of luggage. With that said, we had a great stay. The location was perfect. A few blocks from the Louvre and surrounded by cafes, patisseries, and all the shopping you would want. Nothing is far away. It's next to Angelina's, which has the best hot chocolate in town. Arrived early on Dec. 28 for a one week reservation only to be told that our room had been "flooded by previous guest" and would not be available for several days. We were offerred an upgrade to another hotel with a later transfer back, but I took this as a "bad omen" and an inappropriate inconvenience (as well as a rather suspicous excuse) and didn't even entertain the suggestion. I instead cancelled and opted for my backup reservations (thank goodness I had them) at the more expensive St. James & Albany around the corner on the Rue... more

This is really a great hotel in an amazing location. Booked it through Virgin Vacations. Comfy rooms, typical European size, great breakfast, nice staff.

I stayed at Duminy Vendome the first 10 days of November 2004. It is in such a centralized location, you couldn't ask for anything better. While the rooms are somewhat small, I loved my bathroom with the giant tub and the service was excellent. There is a bar downstairs and a business center as well. The staff speak English and are so very kind and helpful, I don't think I would want to stay anywhere else on my next visit to Paris. The Duminy Vendome is situated in a quiet street but bring your earplugs. This hotel is one of the loudest I have stayed at in all of my travels. If you are unlucky enough to stay on the first floor you will hear guests entering and leaving the hotel and all of the noise from the bar (which is proudly advertised as "always open"). The walls are so thin that everytime someone flushes the toilet you will feel as if you are surrounded by a waterfall. The other floors are quieter but the walls are thin.
