Submitted By: payne.tribe@homecall.co.ukTake a torch for the walk back from Roda. Visit Smileys Bar for some lively Greek Dancing and delicious cocktails. All the Restaurants we went to were lovely, we did'nt have a favourite. Roda is a lovely friendly village with just enough shops and a nice beach. Hire a boat from the nice man on the beach (but mind the sandbanks) Hire a car for a really good look around the island. Go the Corfu town in the evening for some great shops, people watching and the architecture.
Spiros and his family are very helpful and friendly. The pool is lovely and he takes great pride in his pool. We also loved his dog, Lou, who came and saw us when we arrived at No19, and then waited with us until the coach came to pick us up for our journey home.
All in all we had a really wonderful holiday. Would we go back? Yes of course we would...
Advice: A friendly village with everything you need.
Activities: Smileys Bar for the dancing. Hire a car for exploring.

Submitted By: Mrs N FlinthamHaving read and researched thoroughly for this holiday, including the comments on this site, we were really excited about visiting Corfu again after 15 years.
All the comments about Spiros' (and other family members) hospitality are true. They are very friendly. However the studio we stayed in was really grotty. My main moan is that our tour operator has charged us an under occupancy supplement. There was me, my husband and my son (aged 8, who I paid for). The room was so small that the door opened onto our bed. You could just about walk between our bed and my sons bed.
The balcony was tiny - it had a small table and two chairs, but three of us couldn't sit out there. The one chair in the studio was falling apart and had splinters. The balcony doors kept coming off the tracks so was really dangerous.
There was only one power point in the room, so if you had a fan (a necessity) you couldn't plug anything else in.
The kitchen was grotty and dirty, as was the bathroom. Our towels and sheets were changed once during our two weeks, and our 'bathroom bin' was only emptied twice. The shower curtain was filthy and mouldy, so much so that you didn't really want it touching you when in the shower. The bathroom flooded every day into the kitchen - yes, I know this is Greece, but this was beyond anything I'd ever seen. We had to use some of our towels to mop up the water. After complaining to the rep our drain was finally unblocked two days before our departure.
My son dropped something under his bed and when I crouched down to get it, there were balls of hair, dust and dirt under the bed.
I was told by the rep that the other blocks had been refurbished but ours hadn't. Other people were saying they had lovely rooms so I'm guessing that we were just unlucky.
We've been staying in the greek islands for over 20 years, so I was under no illusion what to expect. Basic is fine, small is fine. But whee you've got basic, small and filthy all together then it's not on.
Sorry Spiros, Mrs Spiros, Thomas and Philip - you were great, but unless you spend some of your money on refurbishing we won't be coming back.

Submitted By: Mrs A J WohllebenWe stayed in the 2 bed appartments at the rear of the complex they were basic but clean. The pool area was clean and tidy there was no rubbish anywhere.
The bar area and restaurant were clean and the service was excellent and real value for money the food was great and the menu had plenty of choice.
Spiros 1 is in a rural area, but only a five minute walk from roda village.
Overall we had a great holiday.
Remember you are on holiday so just chill and enjoy it you earned it!!!!!

Submitted By: Miss L RSpiros and his family make you feel so welcome, they are so nice. Spiros is a greek del boy, he is hilarious and he's sons are gorgeous!!!
The apartments are basic, but if you want the Ritz, pay Ritz prices!!! We had a two bedroom apartment with a small kitchen and balcony overlooking the pool and it was just what we needed. The apartment was clean and the kitchen had all you needed (kettle, toasty machine, fridge, hob and all plates/cuttlery/pans etc), we ate out most nights though as the restaurant at Sprios was lovely, the food was beautiful and really quite cheap.
Honestly, we couldn't have had a more enjoyable time at Spiros No. 1 and would recommend it to anyone!!!
" Well what a fab time. Year after... "
Submitted By: Miss L DurbridgeSpiros and his entire family run the apartments and cant do more to make you feel like part of their family. I had honey on toast for breakfast one day, and was raving about the taste of the honey, well, off Spiros went on his motorbike and along came a pot of honey for me to take home. I call that friendly!
Spiros Wife runs the kitchen and I crave her scrambled eggs! (not very Greek I know, but they are so creamy and tasty) I also love the Greek food and his Greek night really is not to be missed.
As for the people saying the prices are changed, I have not found this and have been in late September as wel as mid July and have always found drinks to be the same. In all, this is a well run, unspoilt family business that gives me that something extra from a holiday. Spiros, his wife, his 2 sons and their girlfriends have always been friendly welcoming and helpful, whether you eat and drink their or not!
I could not recommend the place more, you may not get a fully fitted kitchen like you have at home, but you wouldnt expect to on a self catering holiday.
Every morning you see Spiros out in the gardens with his watering can and every morning you see him cleaning the pool. I love it and will return next year, I already cant wait! I feel like I am going home when I go here and I feel like I am visiting my family.

Submitted By: Mrs A RichardsonPlenty to eat drink and many places to visit. We tried the horse riding which is just 5 mins walk. If you fancy something a bit quite side try the beach just a little further down from where the horses are kepted. See the turtles as you just to into the town. Kids loved to take bread to feed them. food is not badly priced.
Just got back to manchester and booked again for this year. Cant wait to see Them all again.

Submitted By: Mrs C PinkneyWhen going to the beach cut through Costas horses, it is less pebbly and there's a lovely bar. You must go to the Greek night at Spiros well worth it for lovely Greek food and traditional entertainment.
The pool is the cleanest I have ever seen (look at the Silver Beach complex and compare!!). Spiros, Philip, Thomas are great hosts. Children are well catered for with free goodies! MY SON CRIES TO GO BACK TO SEE SPIROS!
Having spent 4 weeks in the past few years at Spiros no 1 I can't wait to go back again with my new baby and introduce him to 'Spiros the bloody good greek'! Hello to all the friends we have made at Spiros over the years! From Christina, Andrew, Adam and Jack xx

Submitted By: Miss L PaolosiThe apts were really nice though, not that I cooked. the bathrooms were a bit horrible.
Spiros is a lovely bloke, off his head, if you don't like mixing with people don't come here because it's a very social place, if you want to meet people and have a laugh and a drink, it's perfect. the bar is great and the cocktail choice is endless.
I found his sons very quiet and didn't like much conversation, Akis his nephew (not sure if he's still there) was really chatty, nice guy.
Roda was OK, the beach smelled.
I just didn't enjoy myself very much... I can't help it. although it seems like a very negative review it wasn't that bad.
I had been to lake garda the year before and it was a HUGE change! but if you want a cheap friendly stay in Greece, it's great. Greek night and BBQ were great.
One more thing ALBANIA. GO THERE! you must do this excursion, it was a fantastic experience, and the tour guide was lovely. the stupid rep didn't tell us that we would have to pay more than we already had, so take plenty of money even though they say not too.
You won't be mugged- it's silly talk because the tour guide doesn't leave you alone for a second.
The buffet was quite nice. the roman ruins were quite a trek but if you like a bit of culture, one day Saranda will be better than Corfu.
There are children selling jewellery and key rings, but they aren't beggars. We did see a couple of beggars (one pretending he didn’t have an arm which was so funny because you could see it under his T-shirt) and one little girl holding sign, but if you ask me Paris is 100x worse!
I would go to Albania again but never to Corfu unless it was the only way I could get to Albania!

Submitted By: Mrs A ForbesThe apartments were basic, as most apartments are in Greece but were cleaned every other day and certainly no smell of mould. The kitchen facilities were basic but quite sufficient for breakfast and making lunch, you couldn't cook a 3 course meal in there but then you're on holiday so who'd want to, us women are allowed some time away from the cooking. There was excellent home cooked meals, cooked by Spiros's wife vikki, at great prices available until late into the evening.
There was good entertainment 3/4 times a week and the bar would stay open as long as you wanted it to. The apartments are about 5/10 min stroll from town, but if Spiros passed you walking home he would offer to bring you back. Thomas and Phillip, Spiros's sons were friendly and helpful, whether you were buying a drink or not, considering the long hours they work. If you go onto the Spiros web page there are many many excellent reviews who like us have been before and are returning again. Can't wait to go back next year.
