Loved it!!
I stayed at the hotel for Christmas and New Year with my husband. Thought the place was great. The staff were good and very friendly. Brilliant value for money. Would definately go back.
2nd time - still great
This was our second vist to this hotel. We found the staff more than helpful. The hotel was very clean and basically comfortable. The beach was wonderful - but a bit of a walk away - so not recommended for those with mobility problems. Beach staff very attentive and accomodating. Only drawback was the lack of 'late check out' facility - difficult when you have an 11pm flight, however, with a little 'bartering' we were allowed to use the sauna/massage facilities! The hotel is situated just a short distance from Kantaoui - easily accessed by taxi. We would most certainly use this hotel again
Do not got here!!!
I could go on for ages about how awful this hotel is but I'll try to cut it short. Staff...rude, rooms...basic and dirty and no English TV channels, maids...thieves, pool...in shade (have to use sister hotel), beach...a dump. But the biggest problem was the hygiene. Our clean linen had blood stains, the pool bar tables were wiped down with old cloths and pool water. Everyone was ill and younger children were actually pooing themselves by the pool side. I got a SERIOUS case of Salmonella and then developed Impetigo as I was so run down which has resulted in serious scarring for which I am having to pay 1000s for laser treatment. I am currently taking legal action. For the sake of your health please do not go here. I've never felt so angry about anything. As a 20 year old female with my friend we were very frightened and received racial abuse via Blutooth for not bedding the locals and had men follow us to our room. There's really not much to do in Tunisia, nice hotel or not I can't see why it is a tourist hotspot. It looks like a war zone. Beware.
Holiday from hell
We went from 23/ 10/05 to 30/10/05 two families 8 people 4adults 4 children. what a disaster going here we all had food poisoning , so did other people around the pool. on the first day after being in the pool my husband had ear infection. my son had chest infection, and all sufforing with stomache cramps and the trots 2/11/5 all still ill. staff on reception ok but be warned bar staff dont like you if your all inclusive, dont speak to you because you dont tip drinks a joke only aloud lager wine and flat coke or lemonade if you asked for vodka or gin they said no go to paying bar ,food was same every day bland we lived on chips and bread and the kids on pancakes ,room was ok.entertainment was a joke ok if you were 6 never been any were so bad before dont go save you money we wasted over £3,ooo on thisdump, and yes im complaining but id hate any one else to go through this we work hard for our holidays .we dont even feel we have had one we saw dead cats in streets couldnt use beach it was filthy 3* no way id not even rate it 1* the golden soviva is a joke
loved it
First time visit to Tunisia and really enjoyed it. Hotel was very good, very spacious rooms had to move half way through holiday but the staff were very helpful. The food i admit was a bit bland but the waiters helpfulness made up for it. Entertainment was good and we got to know them over the two week stay. Pool was fantastic and kept us happy went to the beach a couple of times a small walk but clean and enjoyed the watersports on offer. really enjoyable stay would do it again.
Lot of potential
I was in two minds about staying here, after reading a number of reviews before the holiday I considered changing the hotel, however after consultation with other members of the group, we decided to remain with the booking at the Golden Soviva. However, the hotel reception staff were very unhelpful and never gave a response to any of my queries, the food was very bland as we do not eat beef, there was no lamb. We spent 4 evenings eating out in the Marina area (Le Medditarean and L'Oliviers are the best place for decent tunisian and french food, if a bit pricy, also there is a supermarket which sells delicous pizza's at a resaonable price.) The waiters and cleaners are brilliant- very helpful and always ask if we need anything further. Entertainment within the hotel was very poor. Rooms were OK and spacious - we had three rooms on the fourth floor although they were all facing the main road, they were good in terms of size. The only criticism I have to make was the plumbing system was weak - my room had a leak below the sink and the other room had a flushing problem with the WC. Also despite the literature saying that the air con would be available, it was switched off and the receiptionists were very negative about dealing with this. Location to the beach was quite far - we only went on the first day and felt it was dirty, the beach in Sousse is much better. The bar within the complex is poor- very low key and the drinks are expensive. As the title of the review suggests, a very good hotel in terms of complex facilities but not managed or used to it's full potential, overall it seems that the management are saving money (i.e. turning the air con off, switching the reception lights off at night). Finally, our hotel was booked through Med Hotels and we spoke to the rep twice over the one week stay and he was very abrupt and negative in giving any responses, they could not even let us know of the delays at Monastir airport on our return journey (which they did know about).
The Hotel "Survivor"
From the moment we got there, until we left, it rained, not the fault of the hotel of course, but it was definately to blame for a large part of the misery we endured for two weeks. The rooms were dirty, the swimming pool had human waste floating in it, the blue sea in the brochure looked more like a November day in the Bristol channel, and at one point we were the only people on the beach! the staff were quite sweet, as are most Africans, but they were fighting a losing battle trying to pacify the miserable English guests. Although we went in September, there was an astonishing number of noisy, ill behaved naughty school children there, they were throwing food round the restaurant (which was more like a canteen) the food was truly disgusting, but if you are happy to live on pizza and chips you will be well suited to this place! There was nothing to do at night, unless you are happy to let your pizza digest, then join in with "Agadoo" over and over again, God only knows what the Africans think of us, if they think we all live this way, and we all go around saying "It's good 'ere innit?" God help us all!! The rooms are in like blocks, similar to prisons, you can hear every door slam, every loo flush, every throat cleared, you will not sleep very well, and will probably have nightmares if you do! Our room faced straight into someone else's room, so curtains closed at ALL times, just in case you forget and come out the shower in all your glory! Talking of showers, it was more than a regular occurence, to have the water go off half way through your ablutions, and you had to get out of the shower, and ring reception to turn it back on! Also, we had a tv in the room, but it didn't work unless you paid £25.00 English pounds for an ariel, we decided as there was nothing else to do in this hotel from HELL, we would buy one, only to be told that the satelite was down, and it wouldn't work anyway! In Tunisia's favour though, outside the gloomy realms of the Hotel Survivor, we were impressed with the beauty of the countryside, we visited Carthage, Tunis, El Jem, and several other beautiful places, a truly wonderful country, but avoid this hotel at all costs it is completely disgusting, a true wart on the hand of Tunisian tourism, and we would never go back there.
What a fab holiday
We were a little concerned about going to this hotel having ready some of the reviews. We needn't have been. The hotel may not be 4 star by our standards, but if you read the brochure properly the ratings are based on the standards in the country you are visiting. As some people have no running water or electricity and live in breeze block built shacks I think the hotel was probably luxury. The food was fine. Breakfast was not to our liking so we had the freshly cooked omlette and pancakes. Food is available from 6.00am til midnight so if you do not have breakfast you will not starve. The staff and waiters were wonderful, so friendly and could not do enough for us. As for wearing a bathin suit. This is perfectly acceptable around the hotel and no one not even the locals take any notice of you. Topless sunbathing is also wide spread in the hotel. We had no trouble getting a sunbed by the pool. The pool is fantastic. The entertainment is little poor compared to hotels where the company reps are on stage. In Tunisia the animation teams are all locals and ameteurs. Even so they worked really hard and it get in to the spirit of it you will have a good laugh. They do not take theirselves to seriously. In Tunisia they can drink alcohol but the government deliberately over price spirits to stop the people from affording it. The brochure states that the drinks are all local options. It is unfair to complain about the drink situation when the brochure states that it is local spirits only. Bouckha and tonic tastles like gin and tonic. Cedratine is disgusting and Muscat and lemonade tastes like martini. The beer is stella in the golden soviva and a local one is the soviva bar. If you really only want stella you will have to walk a little further to fetch it. Yes the drinks by the pool are in plastic cups which considering there are children about seems like a good idea to me! All in all my group 2 adults 2 pensioners and 3 kids all had a great time. By the way the beach is clean with lots of sunbeds a good bar and fab water sports.
hotel soviva ok in port el kantaoui
have just returned fron golden soviva had a great time no problems with hotel although a little shabby in rooms keeping the waiters happy with tips they looked after us very well and made sure we were looked after, lots of children but was not a problem, we did not bother with breakfast as it did not look very apertising but the evening meal was good.
Waste of Money if you go all inclusive
Do not go to this hotel!!! We went all inclusive which was more like exclusive especially where the drinks are concerned. During the day all drinks are served to All Inclusive in plastic cups (if you're half board then you get a glass and are served by a waiter) in the evening you got a glass but no waiter service. Beer was warm (advertised as Stella which is wasn't) and you could not get a spirit such as Whisky, Vodka & Rum etc unless you paid. Local spirits is disgusting (no wonder the locals don't drink) Boukha, Citradine. So the All In package was a waste. Also you could not get served food at the pool bars - only in the restaurants and the food was very repetitive. Water was another problem as you had to go to reception for a voucher and we were told only 2 litres each a day and no water on departure day (great when you've already paid for it and you're not leaving the hotel until late at night). You can buy imported spirit in the American Bar but at a cost!! People we're suffering from upset stomach which I did and I am not sure what the cause was as I was very careful with what I ate and drank. We've been All Inclusive before and had a great time with no problems so we were really disappointed with the hotel which is not 4 Star (more like 2.5*) and the package. Not much to do in the resort so its ok if you just want sun. Beach isn't good either and you had to be up early if you wanted a spot round the pool. Entertainment programme was really poor. Lots of Russian, Polish, Romanian and Czech's - to sum it up I'd have to say it was like a Butlins for the Eastern Europeans!!
